hey cfb. does baseTarget adjust with an algorithm similar to bitcoins re-target algo?
No. Next base target = previous base target * time since last block / 60. Edit: It's limited to 50% - 200% interval also. how do we get consensus on time?

Within a year or two, I think. With the caveat it might also drop to zero.
I agree, if bitcoin doesn't fail and drop to $0, it will absolutely reach $1000, and almost certainly reach $10,000. 10,000??! That's kind of a stretch, though bitcoin will remain as a primarily accepted universal cryptocoin I see no reason that the value of a mBTC can't grow from it's current $0.70 to $10.00. It already reached $1.20 about a month ago. Does $10 really sound like such a huge number that it's "kind of a stretch?" i move that mBTC just be called bits. i.e. "How much for this gallon of milk?", "That will be 3 bits please"

Will I be rich in 5 years with 500 NXT? ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) Also, would you invest right now? are we in a bubble? I have been waiting and it has only gone higher. Maybe this will help give some perspective. Lets say nxt got to the point where it had the same market cap as bitcoin does now. (21million/1billion)*500*700=$7,350US This also means just putting it in your wallet, not forging and just waiting. Hardly the most profitable way to go about it ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) I have my wallet open all day with the 500 sitting on there but I have never recieved anything. what are the chances that you will process any transaction with 500? how do you calculate this the math is like this: If you are forging with 500 and the network is forging with 500million (this is just a guess if someone has more reliable data on this please let me know). First divide 500/500million. This gives 0.000001 or 0.0001% chance of forging each block. This means that you would expect to generate your first block on average after forging for 1000000 blocks. So we know that blocks come in at 1 per minute. Meaning that it would take you on average 1000000 minutes. Now all you have to to do is go to google and tell it to convert 1000000 minutes into years. And the answer is that you can expect to forge 1 block every 1.90133 years.

Is it better or worse for the guy? ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) good catch. its worse for him. the adjusted output is $4200US

My chain has a height 24303 and my most recent block is ID 9313061582945657198
Is that the right chain? im asking because it seems like i made a transaction on the wrong chain last night but my current account balance reflects that the transaction did infact take place.
Nxt recovered transactions that were sent with 24h deadline as suggested by the client. thanks for clearing that up cfb. you are the man! you are so helpful, why do you have such an orange ignore button?

so if i start a 0.4.7e node it will automatically prune the bad blocks?
|
|
|
Ddos attacked made 1 second last anywhere from 1 second to many minutes. This would cause all sorts of unexpected race conditions in the software. Just imagining the issues of different nodes trying to reconcile what is what when the heartbeat was different for every node hurts my brain, I am amazed it was able to pick up the pieces and continue to run.
Not sure if the integer overflow was an accident or a malicious hack, but there were a lot of giant fee generating transactions by that account. Probably saw the millions of NXT he was getting and got greedy and went past 2^31. Good thing signed ints were used! Otherwise he could have gotten away with it.
Who could have predicted such an attack on innocent little NXT, still only one month old?
James
Decentralized systems are extremely robust in this respect. All you have to do is query all of your peers once every minute or so, ask them how long their block chain is, if it is longer than yours than ask them to send you a copy. If the chain is legit than you adopt it and ping all of your other peers telling them about your new chain, if it is not legit than you ip block the person who sent it to you for like 24 hours.

So i dont know if anyone has mentioned this but the person who found and used this exploit has really done us a favor. We should be thanking him. Its really great that this was detected and brought to our attention during alpha and not beta.

So everyone is doing things and it will all be like it never happened? Due to distributed nature no way to stop nodes from going on as if nothing is wrong. Seems that an emergency stop mechanism might be a good thing. BCNext could probably figure out how to implement a "ctrl-S" on the blockchain...
So, we need to stay up until new client with fix comes out so we can reregister aliases. Contact all sellers and have them resend the NXT. Should dgex.com be warning people?
In the future when there is more and more functionality and data in the blockchain, this sort of thing becomes a bigger and bigger nightmare. Why is everybody so calm about this?
James
because its alpha. we all knew things like this would happen. it even happened to bitcoin.

User705,
Luckily, I got the NXT direct from reputable source, but if this means thousands of transactions will have to be redone, wouldn't it be better to somehow stop things?
I also registered a bunch of aliases. I suppose those would be up for grabs when 24180 is fixed?
I would hope only the tainted blocks would have to be redone. What about all the people with dgex withdrawals pending? What a mess.
Tell me this won't require massive manual cleanup.
James
what is this i hear about thousands of transactions being undone? link to w/e you are talking about pls!

Giving my wifes brother NXT for christmas ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) . Someone gave my wife a lottery ticket for christmas so i thought why the hell not! Might be better then XBT. thats what i think. you are never going to get rich off of $20 worth of bitcoin someday. but you MAY get rich off of $20 worth of NXT someday.

1. Buying goods with Bitcoin decreases value as merchants immediately cash out. New money doesn't flow into falling prices of Bitcoin. 2. Numbers aren't easily digestible. Ever pay 0.004994321 BTC for a loaf of bread? 3. BTC is not deflationary. Altcoins such as LTC extend the supply if adopted.
ltc != btc
