It's been a fun adventure so far I started off with a monoprice 3d printer ( https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-Select-Printer-Heated-Filament/dp/B01FL49VZE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1472173723&sr=8-2&keywords=monoprice+3d).   It has amazing review's for the money on it.... but I got unlucky and guess mine was not checked for quality.   Fan fell off during printing which is bad... then the filament feeder broke a few day's later luckily amazon has great return policy.

The little one got the bug in me that enjoyed it enough after returning that monoprice one I upgraded to a Lulzbot 3d printer after much research.  Have been just starting off with PLA/ABS plastics to get my skills up.   Once I know what I am doing it is not even just plastic limit with this 3d printer Smiley everything from stainless steel, magnetic iron, copper, tons of plastics, to even wood - https://www.lulzbot.com/store/filament .

Been a fun week to say the least learning.   Messing around in a loft during summer is not a whole lot of fun to say the least.   Been a while since I have went into my barn's loft.   Hope all is well with your solar array, still a very sweet setup from pictures you have shown.

i have to resist the temptation to just grab one of the cheapest ones out there, for just the reasons you mention and others. hitting its limitations too soon, or lack of quality control. but i suppose you gotta start somewhere and at least i would know what to look for in a better one. just get something to learn on, expect it to break.

never know you could get different materials. bronze, bamboo ??

oh boy me wants even worse now..
4222  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Announces the Antminer R4 and APW5 Power Supply, Designed for Silence on: August 26, 2016, 12:06:03 PM
seems interesting although i have no current plans to buy any.

one thing from the official page that stikes me odd: https://enshop.bitmain.com/products/antminer-r4-silent-bitcoin-miner.html

Quote
Meticulously Designed for Your Home
Mega-terahash performance within the space and sound of your home electronics

Producing a sound that’s usually less than 52dB, the R4 manages to deliver a monstrous hashrate of 8.6TH/swith a sound level unseen since the existence of 1TH/s bitcoin miners.

With a height of 100mm, it is slim enough to rest comfortably in your book rack or computer table.

they show it in a living room. seems pretty fugly to put in a living room, you know, with the psu and wires and such Smiley

3d printing sounds pretty cool.  better then spending more then 4 hours in a hot loft fixing the solar array miners.
custom printed fan adapter/mounts/vents, cable guides, panels..

man only size, imaginations and supply of plastic is the limit for 3d printing.

its on my wish list Smiley

They're not wrong. I mine and my PC is completely responsive, like it's not even mining. I can even play CS:GO while mining and I get decent FPS.

same here. simpler games as in 2-3 year old AAA titles, movies, youtube etc all play well with stock settings. just the system and gpu fans may ramp up a bit. r9 390.

EDIT: eth only
4226  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Who will be the next victim for Vitalik to dump his Ethereum IPO scamtokens on? on: August 25, 2016, 12:47:31 PM
The POW hashing for the Ethereum ETH is at record level at the moment, it shows the miners confidence in the ETH.

The ETC hashing hate has reduced slightly.

some folks switch to the most profitable coin of the hour/day/whatever. some pools will take care of that for you, other miners just check and switch.

me, im a set and forget kind of miner, so im still on eth. mainly cuz im too lazy.

4228  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: R.I.P Ethereum - The Pre-Mined ScamCoin is dead on: August 24, 2016, 12:33:44 PM
as long as its profitable mining it, im perfectly ok with it surviving. other than that: No Opinion.

have changed my plan on it a bit now, used to keep a quarter of what i mined, now i sell all of it.
4229  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Aug 15 to Aug 29? prize = $25 picks are open. on: August 22, 2016, 11:53:16 AM
+5.5 = vapourminer

If ETH STANDS fast. We may all end up mining it or a replacement GPU coin.

gonna be getting into cooler weather in the northeast usa, so ill likely build out another rig soonish. use my current freenas box and turn it into a miner as ill 1st build a proper freenas server with supermicro parts (ecc ram etc).

mining gpu stuff has the bonus of handmedown parts if you only have a few rigs and recycle parts into other systems.

glad you got some money back out of that loss, so to speak. as someone said, a buck would do, although just the chat and prediction stuff is enough.. i mean look what to people go through just for faucet money..

4230  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v6.0 (Windows/Linux) on: August 16, 2016, 12:16:52 AM
@claymore  no 6.0 linux release ? Sad

per claymore in this post a few pages back, 2-3 days i think

please look back 5 pages

i will await my unbuntu desktop x64 15.10 with the 15.12 amd drivers. mayhaps i need to update drivers for linux but thats my problem.
4231  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum+Decred/Siacoin GPU Miner v5.3 (Windows/Linux) on: August 15, 2016, 10:38:55 AM
Why a R9 390 when it's similair price to RX 480??

1) Easy software-based overclock and control of temp, frequency etc
2) Stable double mining 30.2MHs (ETC/ETH) + 560MHs (SIA/DCR)
3) Easy to sell for 75% of initial price

why a 390?

1) well, thats easy. i bought one because the 480 was not available at that time.

and it is very close to roi RIGHT NOW as i type these words.

is your 480 close to roi?  <-- serious question please.

2) my two 390 are VERY stable. both in ubuntu 15.1 and win7x64pro

heh

3) im not selling mine. two words: Virtual Reality. my 390 is vetted by amd for vr. and so its the 490.
4232  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum+Decred/Siacoin GPU Miner v5.3 (Windows/Linux) on: August 14, 2016, 01:21:55 PM
win 7 pro x64 16 gigs ram here. windows sets whatever page file it wants. plus ubuntu 15.10 desktop, x64 4 gigs ram, and it does whatever it wants too. i have no idea what its swap is set at.

and it does work absolutely no problems here on both systems. just figured id toss that out here.

I've been mining a month and never had this issue before... Im running Win 10, 16 GB virtual memory, 4gb ram, claymore 5.2, 6x RX 480 8 GB, Drivers 16.7.2.
It's really bizarre!

I think this has impacted a lot of people. I'm using Alpereum for mining and I can see that about two hour sago the hashrate halved, same time when my issues began (12:57 CET)

I went and searched thru previous posts from users who are getting similar errors..

What I find is consistent is you must have 16mb Pagefile or more and at least 2mb on the video cards  (I have this correct)
I read several people tried running Catalyst 15.12, 14.9 and newer ver still end up with the same

Hello guys, I have a similar problem. I was mining fine but an hour ago I am now stuck in a Setting DAG Epoch loop between #68 and #69. What is going on? How do I fix this?

hi claymore

[WISHLIST]
[NICE TO HAVE]

can you have the output to the current terminal device list the -cclock value every so often. it would save me checking TRIXX in windows and ssh into ubuntu. i have it set to 1000 mhz in config and it changes every once in a while. i have no idea why.

and i do like doing "localhost:8080" in a browser but it doesnt have the clocks. bonus points if its there too.

also: -cclock value is not in the log file?
4234  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: August 14, 2016, 01:44:17 AM
USB3 is 4.5W, 5V 0.9A

USBC is up to 100W, but that's a whole different breed of cat.

And there is no specific "what the compacs were designed for", not really, since you can pull 15W with one if the hub allows. Good mining hubs don't limit you to 500mA anyway, but most good mining hubs could only source about as much power as the Compac can safely dissipate with a good fan. I think that's what he meant.

ah, gotcha. my mistake.

"never speak for another person " as dad says.

but i thought, out of the box, that 500ma in a bog standard usb 2 port could run a bone stock compac with absolutely no problem. no special command line switches. no current problem. no additional cooling. thats what i meant by "what the compacs were designed for." i thank you for your correction.

i do know they were built for WAY more than that heh.

4235  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: August 14, 2016, 12:49:50 AM
i personally think you would run out of power from the usb before you need anything more then just a fan on the cooler.
depends on what you have for usb power.

usb 2.1 is 500 ma i believe. which is 2.5 watts. and thats what the compacs where designed for.

but usb 3.0/3.1 it like 100 watts, but at 05-20 volts i think.something along those lines anyway..
EDIT no, its USB C, see sidehacks correction below
however you need to have the right cables and the usb device needs to speak usb. it needs to ok that much power with the hub/device.
4236  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: August 14, 2016, 12:10:22 AM
Anyone thought about doing a mini watercooling set up for the gekkos? I wondered if you could make one that runs off USB power?

[...]Don't know on power as fan's cooling radiator and adding in a pump seems power might not make sense, but still a neat project.

[...] but I will be sticking with CFM's from fan's.

i also am sticking with usb fans at the moment. single artic cooling usb powered fan cooling 5 sticks (at 300 mhz i believe) with everything on the superbpag 70 watt hub.

its not running right now as i went on vacation last week and took the 70 watt superbpag hub with me. built in psu. 7 outlets. 2 amps each. and, even a nice carry bag. used it to charge 2 phones, tablet, emergency usb power rechargeable batteries, usb powered rechargeable led lights. hard to beat that piece of kit as it is that useful.

havent even unpacked really. heh love vacations at the ocean.

not exactly.

my thoughts are peltier cooling. i have one but do not have the time yet. that dang real life (tm).

12 volts. several amps. LM7805 regulator (yeah im old). 2 fans.  almost as many wires as water  tubes. iow no usb power for this.

but please do keep us informed Smiley
4238  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MEMBERS OF ETHEREUM TO RETURN ETC TO DAO INVESTORS PETITION on: August 13, 2016, 02:26:48 AM
The apologist on the Reddit thread are hilarious, it's almost impossible to defend this action or hold it in good faith. There was no need to do this; this was a malicious and possibly illegal act before the exchange froze the coins.

this part was the best:

Quote
Also, a large portion of the community does not have the technical ability to safely work both with ETC and ETH in the same address; therefore, returning part of salvaged ETC in ETH seemed to be the safest for all the parties involved.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/4xasg3/follow_up_statement_on_the_etc_salvaged_from/?st=irrtyomt&sh=ef321958

yes, people are too stupid to take care of their coins, so we will do it for them. riiiiight. of course peeps were stupid to invest in the 1st place so maybe that does make sense.

FULL DISCLOSURE: i tossed some coin at the dao.
4239  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The DAO FAIL on: August 12, 2016, 02:59:43 PM
fails like this need to happen. mainly to teach lessons that would be ignored otherwise since they are too insignificant to be noticed.

although this lesson will be ignored too most likely.
4240  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Aug 2 to Aug 16. Picks are yet to start. prize =0.00 on: August 11, 2016, 12:59:34 PM
well we dropped more now 5.63%  maybe with luck we go to 5%

hey maybe my favorite number, 5.5, will come up this time.

OH WAIT now that i mentioned it everyone will pick 5.5

seriously though some interesting theories on why hash rate has done what its done have been in these threads. hope they never stop. even with no prize they are fun threads.
