4241  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Secure Element in Hardware Wallets on: August 30, 2022, 12:19:02 PM
Adding some more information I found about upcoming Trezor prototype chip, and I didn't see this posted before or I missed it somehow.
Prototypes and the mass production of truly open integrated circuit chips are going to be made by UMC, a leading manufacturer of semiconductors from Taiwan.
UMC was already mentioned as the manufacturer of the chips in some earlier announcements. I remember the name either from sources you shared or maybe the Czech blog post that was posted on the forum a couple of weeks ago.

UMC headquarter is in Hsinchu, Taiwan, but good thing they are located in different locations in mainland China, as well as in Japan and Singapore.
UMC already operates out of two locations in China and if the US and China come to an agreement, maybe their Taiwanese headquarters will be called China in a few weeks or months as well.
4242  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trying to have more knowledge about hardware wallet on: August 30, 2022, 09:49:44 AM
What amount of funds you will hold that you will start getting worried of having to buy a hardware wallet? Can you give me a number? 5000$ 10,000$? What advice would you give someone under 1000$ of asset in hold?...
o_e_l_e_o has already covered this very well, so there isn't much to add.

An amount such as $100 isn't valued equally in all parts of the world and by all people. For some, it's their entire monthly salary, but for others it's something you spend on your friends on a night out. There isn't really a threshold that needs to be crossed for you to start using a hardware wallet or cold storage. Take any amount. Let's do $100 since that's what I mentioned earlier. Imagine that $100 worth of BTC in your possession. If you lost it tomorrow, would you a) laugh about it because it's such an insignificant amount in your life that it's not worth worrying about, or b) you would be holding your head in disbelief at what you have done not knowing if you will be able to put food on the table one week from now?

If your answer leans more towards "b", I would consider upgrading my security to make sure I decrease the possibilities of losing my coins.
4243  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware wallet FUD (nonce attacks, unofficial firmware, etc) on: August 30, 2022, 09:36:19 AM
It basically boils down to trust in one way or the other. You can verify the installation binaries, signatures, and firmware, and that will tell you that they are signed by the right people and originate from the official teams behind those wallets. And then what? How many people actually know what the open-source code does and check to make sure the developers didn't insert something malicious or made an unintentional mistake? 1/10? More likely 1/100 do that.

The rest of us mere mortals are stuck trusting that nothing malicious has happened and that those 1/100 that know what they are doing have done their jobs properly. The system is generally working quite well for popular open-source projects with significant communities. But all it takes is one intentional/unintentional mistake for it all to crumble. Hopefully, that'll never happen. That's why most people can't do much then rely on trust despite the saying: "verify, don't trust."
4244  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Buying a Hardware Wallet in US on: August 30, 2022, 09:10:00 AM
I don't see that the Trezor site lists official sellers on Amazon, but only says the following:

We also have Amazon warehouses in the US, Canada, UK, and EU.
I don't know why they don't, but they really should for the safety of their users. Especially the inexperienced ones that might not know the dangers of buying from unofficial sources. Anyways, n0nce shared the following link to Trezor's Wiki above: https://wiki.trezor.io/FAQ:Ordering_and_shipping#Is_it_safe_to_buy_a_Trezor_on_Amazon.3F

Quote
Trezor hardware wallets are also sold on the official Trezor Amazon store. Products sold through Amazon are kept separate from other inventory and are safe to use as long as they pass standard security checks.

There is a link in the Wiki that leads directly to the Trezor Amazon store. More precisely, it links to the Trezor Model T. It should however link to Satoshilabs' profile on Amazon where the customer can then select either the Model One or Model T.
4245  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Buying a Hardware Wallet in US on: August 29, 2022, 12:56:36 PM
Or, and I am just putting it out there you can have a trusted member buy one and ship it to you.
krogothmanhattan and minerjones do plenty of giveaways and raffles that involve physical coins. krogothmanhattan ships such items for free within the United States, but if the other party lives outside of the USA, the products get shipped to minerjones who handles the rest. Both individuals are trustworthy and if OP decides to have the HW shipped to his country and is OK with another forum member knowing his address, I would get in touch with those two dudes first.

Regarding ordering hardware wallets from Amazon; make sure not to get scammed. There are definitely fake Ledgers and Trezors made in China, not so sure about other wallets.
Never open Amazon in your browser and type "Ledger" or "Trezor". OP needs to make sure he goes to the official website and finds the links to the official Amazon resellers from there.
4246  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: I found a paper wallet on a beach ... seriously on: August 29, 2022, 12:36:13 PM
Ok by then probably you were a newbie but now that you can post picture, can you add the picture which you have over there? Make your story authentic by showing us the image of the wallet.
OP is still a newbie. He/she has collected a decent amount of merits (for a beginner) but the account status has not changed because the required amount of activity points is lacking.

This want the OP would have done. But the figures in the wallet are different. The OP figure is 0.6 BTC while dkbit98 figure is 0.62 BTC but the country is the same.
The balance is not exactly 0.6 BTC. OP mentioned it's 0.6104...ish.

I scanned the initially concealed QR code on my phone, entered the also concealed code and was presented with a web page with info pertaining to a btc balance of 0.6104...ish.

I don't think easternklaas is interested to discuss this matter any further. It's been a week since the account was last seen online. I guess we will never find out what he found on the beach (assuming the story is true). Case closed... for now.
4247  Other / Archival / Re: WasabiWallet.io | Open-source, non-custodial Bitcoin Wallet for desktop on: August 29, 2022, 09:38:38 AM
If tainted outputs are connected to your wallets, and your wallets connected to your real identity, then I suggest to improve your OPSEC.
Do you believe the future of Bitcoin involves people doing background checks on the coins they are about to receive? So if I want to sell my bike for Bitcoin, I need to ask the buyer to tell me the address/addresses they will pay from and what's the origin of the coins, so I can check if they are in any way tainted. But keep in mind: we don't know what Wasabi and their analysis companies consider taint, and we have no idea what they are looking for. Only they do and they will tell us when our coins are rejected.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4500633.0

4249  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Fortunejack scam me 400$ - !!! on: August 29, 2022, 09:05:20 AM
why don't you say a word that the casino allows you to bet without any checks???
That's unfortunately the way the entire crypto gambling industry works. Crypto gamblers wanted to stay anonymous so in the beginning that's how it was. It's still like that at some platforms, but the casinos reserve the right to ask you to verify your account any time they see fit. In the future, there will be more of that. Ideally, that should be done at the beginning, but it isn't. Casinos are businesses that love making money, not losing money. They have therefore created a system in which you are free to lose, but when you win, everything about you can be checked. That does not justify your action of trying to cheat and verify your account using someone else's documents no matter how much it was raining.

for example, my underage son could create an account and win a lot of money, and then he would not pass the verification, and then what? Wouldn't they give him any money or a deposit? If I had checked before the first bet, I wouldn't be in this situation.
It might sound harsh, but that's what you should have done. The TOS is public but no one reads them.

Here is my personal opinion - that the bookmaker under no circumstances has the right to take away the deposit and winnings at a fair bet! if he allowed me to the table, then please pay! He can forbid me to make new bets and block the account BUT MONEY IS OBLIGED TO GIVE!
Read the TOS and find proof of your statements. If you think you have a claim against FortuneJack, you can then file a complaint with the responsible gaming authority.

4251  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How will you handle this case on: August 28, 2022, 04:29:24 PM
So, one brother stole $100 worth of ether from his own brother. How well do you know the guys and does the alleged thief seem shady to you? Does it sound like something he would do? You never mentioned if the ETH that was sent to the wallet is yours or not. Is it?

Chasing those $100 isn't worth the trouble. Law enforcement isn't going to do anything about such a small amount either. If you were to follow the trail of the money and realize that the coins were deposited into a centralized exchange, chances are that whoever created the account on that site has undergone KYC. But no exchange will disclose such information to random people, and you will be asked to involve the police and/or present proof or a court order.

The best you can do if you are friends with the victim is to teach him how to create his own wallet, generate and backup a recovery phrase, and keep the information safe from other people, including his brother.

4253  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Clipboard Virus on: August 28, 2022, 09:20:50 AM
Clipboard malware or not, if you verify the transactions you are making you would notice that the addresses don't match. Too many people are way overconfident and don't check anything and want to finalize and broadcast their transactions as soon as possible. Check the letters and numbers of the address character by character to make sure they are identical. When you are done checking, check again. Use a hardware wallet to be certain that the two addresses match. Hopefully, you won't make the same mistakes again.
4254  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: in debt but want to invest. on: August 28, 2022, 08:35:54 AM
Do both. Split your wages for paying debt and invest as well. Totally stopping paying debt could anger your lender and totally stopping investing is not a good idea as well.
You don't invest money that you don't have. If OP is in debt of $6000, he should focus on returning and honoring that contract first. Debts don't disappear. Instead, they become bigger. What is $6k today can become $7k tomorrow if you are not careful.

Another piece of advice does not sell your BTC to pay the debt. It's not a good idea to sell your assets this way. Instead, invest your assets somewhere to earn some passive income and use that income to pay the debt. In my opinion, assets should only be sold to make more assets other wise you are just wasting your assets.
Are you suggesting staking and similar irresponsible activates? Whoever has followed what's been happening on the crypto market in recent months will know how dangerous such platforms are and they ought to stay away from them.
4255  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Privacy Tips: Don't send round amount on: August 28, 2022, 08:12:50 AM
If the amount in dollars (or euros or any other major currency) is a round number, it's trivially easy for a block explorer (or anyone observing the transaction) to check and they'll assume that's the amount you sent, and the other amount goes to your change address.
True, but that's a whole lot of guesswork. Looking at the value of one output, you might say this is probably the change because it's the equivalent of $/€/Ł43.28, while the other entry of approximately $/€/Ł20 is the amount that was paid. But maybe that $/€/Ł43.28 equals exactly 1000 units in my local fiat currency and blockchain analysis got it all wrong.
4256  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Novosti on: August 28, 2022, 08:03:35 AM
Grin
4257  Other / Off-topic / Re: LastPass - Notice of Recent Security Incident on: August 28, 2022, 07:55:43 AM
Well, I am guessing the email was not sent to every user of last pass as I personally did not receive any email from them , or maybe because my account have been dormant for quite some time now, I can't even remember the last time I logged in on the platform.
As TryNinja mentioned in his post, the email he received was marked as spam. Maybe your email landed in the spam folder as well and you simply deleted it alongside other spam emails. Check your deleted emails folder, maybe it's there.

Only a part of the database was allegedly breached. Maybe you are not on the list of potential victims.

4259  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Fortunejack scam me 400$ - !!! on: August 28, 2022, 07:17:59 AM
Which crypto was it? Sorry I can not verify.
I think it's Tron and TRX. He mentioned in the OP that he had 6000 TRX.
Blockchain data shows that 2.800 TRX was transferred from Huobi to this address: TNKk8nh8rDe3443vfaRN3bPZpujfQsMLJS.

He mentioned that his address is this one: TA4FabawZ5BsVaoWysywPxCSbomUBfVBsT.
But that's not where those 2.800 TRX went, and inserting that address on tronscan shows no results.
