4243  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Tracking down stolen Bitcoins on: December 28, 2017, 04:16:48 PM
There are a lot of stories of stolen bitcoins from hacked websites or fooled people.

Or perhaps just block those blacklisted wallets and don't support them on the network (bitcoin) level?

Fortunately there is no such power, a victim may contact some exchanges to blacklist an address or some addresses which relate to the thief address, but not all of the exchanges in this world that you can ask to do that, it requires lots of resources obviously, and how if it just BTC10 but the resources that you need to blacklist the thief address more than the amount of BTC10.
Most cases are unhelped, the victims can't do anything about it but let it go.

A short story;
After MT-Gox hacked which BTC850,000 bitcoin stolen, the owners can't do anything about it, but law enforcement keeps tracking the transactions and ended with someone from BTC-e (Alexander Vinnik) was arrested due to dealing with money laundering which suspected relate to funds from MT-Gox as well.

So, if you have at least BTC100,000 that someday get stolen and still have enough resources to track those coins, then you may be able to recover the funds even though with small chance and it may takes years.

Yeah you need a lot of resources to be able to block or track your stolen bitcoins and it seems unfair for others with few bitcoins that they can't do anything when their digital assets got hacked. Money talks, Money matters, just be careful with your funds to prevent from getting hacked.
4244  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: All eyes on Japan in 2018 on: December 28, 2017, 03:29:44 PM
***************************************************************************************************************
This paper presents the situation of the cryptocurrency market at the end of 2017 and the challenges that the crypto community still faces. Thanks to its crypto friendly legal framework, Japan should be the country to watch in 2018. The currently high transaction fees of Bitcoin offers an opportunity for Japanese crypto assets to become the preferred payment method on the island and maybe in the world.
***************************************************************************************************************

Looking back, 2017 was a fantastic year for the crypto world. Investors enjoyed 20 fold returns on Bitcoin (BTC), 100 for Ether (ETH), 60 for Litecoin (LTC) and so on. It was hard to lose money in dollar terms.

This exceptional performance is the consequence of years of hard work from developers, exchanges, lobbyists, authors, etc. to make Bitcoin and the likes more known and accessible to the world.
The crypto market is becoming mainstream: institutional and retail investors are now together in this new asset class. The more, the merrier one could say.

Indeed, the influx of new joiners came at a benefit: the skyrocketing rise in value of crypto assets.

But it came at a cost too: Congested blockchains, rising transaction costs, crashing exchanges, etc.

While cryptocurrencies made a name for themselves this year, a lot must be done so that they leave their nascent state and become mature payment methods.

The time is now to scale.

On December 13, Vitalik Buterin, the Founder of Ethereum, challenged his followers on Twitter:

•   “So total cryptocoin market cap just hit $0.5T today. But have we *earned* it?”
•   “How many unbanked people have we banked?”
•   “How much actual usage of micropayment channels is there actually in reality?”

Without a real use case in the daily life of people, 99% of cryptocurrencies and tokens will be remembered as a funny investment that turned out to be a mirage.

Bitcoin is here to stay.

It has the first mover advantage, the biggest network, fair incentives and its scarcity makes it the true digital gold. It’s the benchmark of all crypto assets. For these reasons, Bitcoin will survive and at least act as a store of value.

However, Bitcoin was also designed to be a medium of exchange but it is now too slow and too expensive to use. Being the first mover also has its flaws. Bitcoin blocks are 1 Megabyte big and occur every 10 minutes. That is not enough to cope with the thousands of new transactions happening every minute. Bitcoin miners include the transactions with the highest fees attached in the blocks.
This is how Bitcoin is no longer viable as a medium of exchange for small transactions.

It may be temporary though.

The introduction of the Lightning Networks (LN) solution to the Bitcoin network will make Bitcoin great again.
But when will that happen?
Will the community tear itself apart as it did when the Segregated Witness (Segwit) solution was launched this summer? Nobody knows. There may well be another 12 to 18 months of developments and hiccups along the way.

So what will happen in the meantime?

Now that millions of people have become aware of cryptocurrencies and that the Bitcoin blockchain is in limbo, there is an immense opportunity for an altcoin to become the preferred coin for transactions.

Let’s remember that the value of a coin mostly depends on the size of its network. The more people use it, the higher its value.
Also, the number of merchants accepting Bitcoin vs credit cards is still low worldwide. A successful altcoin could in no time take over Bitcoin as the preferred coin by merchants.

Therefore, this is no surprise that the Bitcoin cash (BCH) supporters are so vocal in the media. BCH offers lower transaction costs thanks to its 8 Megabytes block size. It could thus fill the gap.
Litecoin (LTC) is another contender. It’s a clone of Bitcoin with larger and more frequent blocks. It has Segwit too.

In the end, the users will decide which coin they endorse.

But the legal framework plays an important role here.
In most countries, the legal status of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies is still unclear. Why would merchants accept cryptocurrencies that are uneasy to apprehend and that the government can ban overnight?

Japan gave cryptocurrencies legal tender status in April. This is a massive step for a rapid adoption by Japanese people and merchants.
Which coins are they likely to endorse for payments?

BCH? LTC? Probably not. These coins are known in Japan but probably lack the support of the local crypto communities.

And Japan has its own altcoins: NEM and MONA. They are very different in design.

NEM is similar to Ether as it enables the creation of NEM powered blockchains and smart contracts. There are 9 billion tokens that were premined. Transactions are validated by nodes, based on a Proof of Importance method.

MONA is a fork of LTC with more frequent blocks. It is popular with gamers and is even accepted by IT stores. Coins are mined by the traditional Proof of Work method.

Both coins enjoy strong local support and can be purchased directly against Fiat on the Japanese exchanges.

This is why Japanese altcoins shall be monitored closely in 2018.

Their adoption by local merchants shall be facilitated thanks to the clear legal framework for cryptocurrencies in Japan and the work of their communities.

Should they become widely adopted in Japan, the network effect could make them very popular in other parts of the world.

Overall the cryptocurrencies will succeed, eventhough there is a lot of fud about ICOs beeing scam and so on. People prefer ICO as ICO are a better way to get huge returns, and that way of thinking helps the ICOs do their work.
Bitcoin is here to stay, but with these high fees, for how long it will stay king? I would fear for BTC instead of fearing for the alts.

Bitcoins high fees are a bit pain in the ass specially for the "low amount" holders of this crypto its a burden when your fee is higher than what you actually get. I think the big game changer this 2018 will be those alt coins with extremely low fees and no fees at all.

I will be studying those japanese alt coins that you have mentioned.  Grin
4245  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can cryptocurrency make real money disappear? on: December 28, 2017, 09:44:49 AM
It's true that bitcoin  is accepted in some countries but still they are just co-exists with real money.
Paper money does not have any bright future anymore. Paper money will only be used in developing or underdeveloped countries after a score because developed ones are already more towards plastic money but after the invention of crypto currencies, they are even leaving plastic money. Bitcoin and litecoin are already famous crypto currencies and with the passage of time, their common usage will also increase.

Paper money is still in use and some like to have paper money rather then to use card (you said plastic money) or even crypto, some even dont know or they dont want to know what is crypto or how to use any type of card.

So there will always be some sort of use of paper money but eventually with time we will go to use of card more often. Probably main reason for this is that small stores dont have or they dont want to accept card at all.

LMAO even the most developed countries have unfortunate and poor people on their streets, do you guys think that they can afford to have an internet connection and smart phones to use digital assets? Paper money will never be lost and it will be continued to be used as time passes by.

4247  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoincash now is 3rd in CMC do you guys BCH can overtake bitcoin in future? on: December 28, 2017, 08:11:40 AM
BCash is a centralised and manipulated altcoin pumped by scammer Roger Ver.

People making more Doge tx's than Bcash. BCash blocks are almost empty just pathetic.

Bitcoin is dying its because of this f$&cking fee. That was too much already i think that was the main reason why some developers of bitcoin find a ways  and switch to another new coin its because the fee every transaction is too high that if you have transacting a small amount you are only paying higher fee.

This is a miners problem, if the Chinese mining cartel did their job the mempool would be bone dry. Also use Segwit. Combine those 2 and you'll enjoying those $0,10-$1 fee's.

The Bitcoin network works just fine, 2018 will bring more miners and Segwit adoption, just relax.

I was hoping that too that segwit could lower the bitcoin transaction after this segwit we can transact more lower transaction juts like before. At this currenct setuation only bitcoin miner are happy because they are the one who realy binefits that fee.
Yeah bitcoin transaction is very much crowding  and segwit is our hope to correct all things , because it seems that bitcoin transaction becoming difficult and because of that higher fees will occur ,and we can say it is the start of monopoly why because people seems not able to find some altcoins to compete BTC.
The high fee is killing almost everyone with little amount of hodlings and also the fees on markets are freaking high AF! Imagine a 100k to 200k satoshi fee for every transaction. Lets what will happen on 2018. Grin
4248  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If bitcoin owner die. It means bitcoin also lost forever? on: December 28, 2017, 06:07:44 AM
Yes. But a fork might change that. As a current example, the Segwit2x fork that has been announced for 28 December proposes to redistribute Satoshi Nakamoto’s coins.
I heard about the segwit2x fork, since there are many forks going on with bitcoin , i am not bothered much as i am yet to cash in my other fork coins ,but i did not understand is how they are going to redistribute the coins held by the developer, how can they do that fair and share and if they can take the coins from that wallet how secure is other wallets, they could literally take those coins from any wallet. Roll Eyes
If someone is holding bitcoin and he dies, the coins he is holding is lost unless someone gets his private key.
Is that a legit fork or another fake fork again just to make FOMO for people and increase the price of bitcoin like the last time they did it? And oh its 28th of december today time to read some news about the fork.  Grin
4249  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is going to crash again? on: December 28, 2017, 05:26:21 AM
Hi,

It seems BTC is going to crash again. When compare the btc charts in the last several years, it is common to crash in late Dec and January. Is that happening again? According to the price action, btc dump possible at this time. Keep watch btc.

hopefully it does not happen this year and I think this year is the year BTC where the price also increased many fold this year.

Seriously no one knows if it will crash or not. Those people on youtube specially the one's that called them selves famous are just spreading FUD to make people panic and sell their bitcoins. (Only Big Whales knows if they will crash it or not)  Grin

4251  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I have 12 Bitcoin. What should I do??? on: December 28, 2017, 01:37:02 AM
Just hold onto them and see how far they can go!

If it is just an investment you are sitting on and don't need the money, then why jump to sell them?
very good, if there is no need, you should save your money to avoid wastage. or if you have the ability to do business you can also trade to develop your money.

This is much better suggestion. Go sell 1/4 of your bitcoins and invest in real life business like small restaurants or mini groceries this kind of business is good and profitable if you know how to manage. And the other 1/4 invest in different kinds of alt coins, And before doing that do your own research on what is a good alt coin to invest in. Then the last 1/2 you can hodl it if you want for future investments.  Cool
4252  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum: Good alt or stay away? on: December 27, 2017, 01:55:21 PM
Hi everyone, I've been around for a while now..
I've seen a lot of posts positive and negative about Ethereum.

At the moment I am holding Bitcoins, but I have invested in some Ether as well.

Now I am wondering, what are legitimate concerns about Ether (except for IPO, as I've already read this in a lot of posts).

So can anyone bring real other issues to the table, to enlighten me (and maybe a lot of other readers?)

Thanks!
Yes it is good Ethereum altcoin. Ethereum is like bitcoin because it is also has potential in the cryptocurrency market. We can make more money if we will try to invest our money in ethereum .
First of all, it is necessary to pay attention to the fact that the etherium is a currency paid to miners. You will not be able to transfer your tokens from the Wallet to the Wallet or to the Exchange unless you have an ETH. This is one and important norm in favor of ETH.

Ethereum is the fuel and all the erc20 tokens are like vehicles and they need the fuel to be able to move. No ethereum no fuels for erc20 tokens it's that simple.  Grin
