holy crap! they were doing something around 5% of the global hashrate. That's bad news really. Chinese competition is tough on everything which requires big numbers: no quality involved. Bitcoin is about doing calculation before others and they have too much power on it, unfortunately
4242  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 27, 2016, 05:34:29 PM
It's time to hold onto Bitcoin! No ETH involved now. When BTC moves it is fast, it is furious and it is big. I bought in around 200$ and whenever I see green above that I'm a happy guy, to quote George Carlin

Found myself looking at the chart for half an hour no stop till now! My god man!
It's so crazy how it is easy to get caught into that mental mechanism which wants one to find meaning and the sense even if there's nothing else to be seen but... numbers and candles! Grin

This is going to be big. The first to create this new standard will pass it on to the other banks.
After this is achieved banking will adapt to 21st century thanks to Satoshi Nakamoto even though they will have nothing to do with him.

I don't like the world blockchain, bitcoin and banks together.  Roll Eyes

Members of the European Parliament just voted to introduce a bitcoin and cryptocurrency regulator

Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) have called for the creation of a cryptocurrency watchdog to combat money laundering and terrorism.

http://www.cityam.com/242051/members-of-the-european-parliament-just-voted-to-introduce-a-bitcoin-and-cryptocurrency-regulator

Of course, the bad guys use bitcoin and who else uses bitcoin?

Read below from John Lanchester

After the Silk Road shut down
Quote
the FBI became one of the world’s larger owners of bitcoin, because it seized the site’s considerable assets: 144,000 bitcoin, worth £43.9 million at today’s prices. It was a point of interest what it would do with them, and a point of danger, too, since it seemed possible that once the new currency had the attention of the authorities, they might conclude that this extra-governmental, anonymous, untraceable money was, in and of its own nature, illegal. Instead, what the FBI did, after thinking for a bit, was what it does to other confiscated assets: auction them off. The implicit point was not missed: the Feds say bitcoin is legal. It follows that bitcoin has legitimate uses. That was a strong message. Bitcoin emerged from Silk Road in better shape than ever.

4246  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can so many new alts affect of dilute Bitcoin investments? on: May 27, 2016, 06:24:04 AM
With more than 400 casualties among the so called alternative coins I see no harm for bitcoin really. Nothing proved to be able to take its place in 8 years. Of course this may change but I think that if we will go through bad times again the community will prove intellegince rather then stupidity.

If you look at market cap there's is truly no comparison.
4247  Economy / Speculation / Re: 7/18/16 Bitcoin will rise up to 2000$ on: May 27, 2016, 06:19:48 AM
As soon as there's a small price value increase there's someone coming here stating that bitcoin will reach billions. That's an old thing, come one. There's plenty of these threads around. Say something valuable.
4248  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 27, 2016, 06:17:02 AM
I got the price right in the recent small pump. I was expecting 471$ by the end of May. Next checkpoint would be 517$ and, if we cross it, the only thing I see is, obviously, the unknown.

Got some profit also, which is always good.
4249  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you trust to bitcoin casinos? on: May 26, 2016, 12:32:09 PM
So far most of the bitcoin casinos are ok for me: I've used a few and I've nothing to complain about. I don't use them much today because I don't have time but every once in while I still enjoy them.

They could post their job offer here on the forum, I'm sure they will find a lot people interested..

All the big firms are going "all in" on blockchain: what's next? Another huge bubble or a change of perspective?
4251  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2016-05-23] Google Trends Indicates Growing Interest for Bitcoin and Blockchain on: May 24, 2016, 04:25:47 PM
When people search for Bitcoin on Google, the “payment system” term is a very common query for some reason. Additionally, Bitcoin mining and Bitcoin price remain top keywords as well, which was to be expected. But there are other terms currently breaking out, such as ‘Bitcoin calculator”, and “Bitcoin exchange”. Quite peculiar results to say the least.

Very interesting actually. If we look clesely at the top ten is as follows:

1. Ghana
2. South Africa
3. Singapore
4. Hong Kong
5. Ukraine
6. The Netherlands
7. Indonesia
8. Switzerland
9. Russia
10. Australia

4252  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC to 5000$ soon on: May 24, 2016, 04:07:26 PM
So many stupid people posting here.

Bitcoin went from 120$ to 1200$ in a month. It was 10x increase. From 500 to 5000 is also a 10x increase yet some absolute morons with no knowledge of history at all think that it would take LONG TIME for BTC to jump to the next order of magnitude. A month is not a long time. It can happen at any time, without warning. And by soon I mean in 2016 (Spring 2017 the latest).

It's not difficult to understand why there's so much posting going on around this topic.
By the way, I totally agree when you say that

Let's not forget the 1000$ price happened because of Willy.
4253  Other / Archival / Re: should i save btc for future? on: May 20, 2016, 12:46:25 PM
If we think this way there's only one method to do this:
to invest and forget!
But this is not good for the Bitcoin economy because too many people are waiting for a price increase for many different reasons.
4254  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 20, 2016, 10:28:55 AM
The market looks quite "natural" recently.
There's not so much volatility if we compare last months with previous ones.
But calm sea waters may change rapidly as we all know.
4255  Other / Off-topic / Re: I spent all my saving on bitcoin, now i am broke on: May 20, 2016, 10:23:42 AM
You should change the subject.

You have bitcoins that you can spend. You're not broke.

He does not recognize the value of bitcoin actually. He spent fiat money that he does not see anymore and maybe now he wants to be reassured about his funds.

Quoting Elwar you have bitcoin to spend. And change the pvt keys place, by the way.

He started looking like a clown, a crazy rich man. He destroyed any politically correct way of doing a campaign (which in some sense in good because we realize, more than ever, how fake that is.
Now he's probably going to be the next US president.

Hollywood made possible..

But.. but... Hollywood is fake and you said it is a good thing he's destroyed the fake politicians...

Not logical.

Yes, correct. I should have used the word paradox as well! He's a complete paradox to me: probably he's using the best strategy ever but again it makes no sense. Sorry man I really can't explain more than this.

No need to be sorry. What you call paradox is everything you love about TRUMP, but cannot bring yourself to admit it.

 Smiley

No man, are you crazy? Grin
I do not support this clown at all. I am only intrigued by his way of dealing with the campaign but I totally reject him.

4258  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to teach someone about Bitcoin on: May 19, 2016, 06:06:53 PM
Best way to teach someone about BTC?
Find out where a btc merchant is in your area. Go there and by something with someone you think should know about BTC. And then let them ask you questions.
That's the best way.

But what if there is no merchant around who accepts bitcoin? As I am facing that problem, I don't have a single physical shop where I can buy anything using bitcoin.

Ok then do the same exact thing online! Find an online merchant and buy with bitcoin. It is the same thing! Aren't we using digital cash after all? SO my point is still valid Wink

What a hell of strategy: so it seems you have a crystal ball. Good advice.

Maybe the wisest and easiest strategy (discussed many times here) to be applied today is the one that consider buying small amounts of gold and BTC every month no matter what the price is.
Anyone can find out how much is a good investment to start with depeniding on someone's needs.
4260  Economy / Speculation / Re: There is an epic shakeout coming this year before the giga-spike. on: May 19, 2016, 06:38:56 AM
Andreas Antonopoulos taught something to me: BTC is worth one BTC.
I don't care about these threads anymore: if bitcoin will give me freedom (financially speaking) that'll be good.
BTC gave me much more than money: to quote mastercard that is really priceless.
