yeah, we need more info.

he might just be trolling...

In that case: what an idiot. But we'll see.

no whitepaper.

 no theory.

 no history of publication.

 trying to attract attention.

who would buy these products?

Noone's buying anything. He's letting us know about his development (albeit not with enough detail to be able to even judge what it's all about).
4244  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reggie Middleton builds Zero Trust Digital Currency Contracts on Blockchain on: January 05, 2014, 08:21:00 PM
sounds big. bitcoin will not only challenge credit cards and wu. decentralized trust is an earthquake and not a small one.

I wish Middleton would explain technically how he wants to pull this off with "zero trust". Then I'll get excited.

I could imagine something with smart contracts that are automatically settled based on external data like EUR/USD rate or whatever. But I don't think the Bitcoin Network is ready for that feature at this point.
4245  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reggie Middleton builds Zero Trust Digital Currency Contracts on Blockchain on: January 05, 2014, 08:19:48 PM
This is essentially a gambling platform because at no point does any currency exchange take place.

You think you might've just explained what derivatives are.
4246  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reggie Middleton builds Zero Trust Digital Currency Contracts on Blockchain on: January 05, 2014, 08:03:56 PM
My guess would be that it's a client application for a centralized exchange. But, the way he describes it, it's hard to know for sure.

Well, he says "zero trust". That's what got me interested. He's talking about "boombust" (his firm?) contracts in the text. This sounds like there's still some centralization and/or third party risk.

Just read the text, doesn't really explain (to me) how this is supposed to work technically. How are the parties brought together, how is the contract established / settled / whatever?
4247  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reggie Middleton builds Zero Trust Digital Currency Contracts on Blockchain on: January 05, 2014, 07:55:54 PM
I saw that. Watching this with great interest.

Did you read it? Can you sum it up? How is it supposed to work?

I don't even now what exactly a swap is.

...or at least says so on his boombust blog:

The Future of Money is Here: BoomBust Zero Trust Digital Currency Contracts

I have created derivatives for Bitcoin that work exclusively on the Bitcoin network. They are capable of literally replacing the role of the large money center and investment banks. YES! This is a big thing. I will hopefully have a limited use beta example of the first product for the viewers of the show to experiment with. These products have been designed as zero trust contracts (meaning it was designed to eliminate the human judgment factor, thereby nearly completely automating the entire transaction). Currently, trust issues that the conventional OTC banking system products incur severely hamper free flowing capital markets. Greed begets inefficiencies. Digital zero trust contracts (as opposed to physical legal contracts) “theoretically” eliminate litigation and court involvement and expensive dispute resolution through means of the legal system. My BoomBust contracts allows anonymous parties to swap exposure in and out of Bitcoin from many widely traded currencies. (USD, EUR, YEN, CNY, etc.).

he then goes on to explain that in more detail (haven't read yet). I've read the post, not much substance so far.

What the hell is he up to?
Could this really be something big?
Who's helping him?

Or is he only fishing for subscribers?

Hi,

How willl the scheduled down time of Bitstamp affect order execution of Bitfinex?

Thx Kiss

oh, that's why no orders are executed on bfx?

Shouldn't we be able to trade bfx-only?

The order book isn't even loading.

I do recall Raphy saying he ordered more hardware, though I doubt that's being laid out right now

The orderbook isn't loading. Hasn't been for days now.

Is this a server performance issue. Is there something I can do.

I'd really like to be able to see the order book.

strange, I've been checking the platform in the last hours and all seems good to me.
Is somebody else having the same problem?
Can you access it from another computer?
Please let me know.

Thanks a lot and have a good day

Giancarlo
Bitfinex Team

hmmm. I can see the book now, but I remember seeing javascript errors (one every second, roughly) back when it wasn't working. Now that error is gone. I will try to catch it next time the orderbook loading is screwed up.

You mean a donkey like in poker? You think it's a bulltrap?

No, just a rocket-powered Bitcoin donkey for fun! (See previous posts). But if there is a bad meaning in poker maybe best leave it out!  Grin

(thanks to shutterstock, please don't fuck me)

"Hey man, what are you doing?"

"Sticking to the plan. Not letting emotion take over! Now leave me alone, please."

Global qty of gold in the world ~ 30,562,500 kg
Global qty of BTC in the world ~ 21,000,000

So 1kg ~ 1 BTC makes some sense. Even 1.455 kg/BTC  Smiley

That would put the market capital of bitcoins and gold at equal levels, but I do not see any reason they would need to be equal? Once the powers that be and every body else in the world realizes the advantages bitcoins offer over gold, we could see bitcoin replace the market capital of gold. Someday you might be able to buy 100 kg of gold for a bitcoin, and the only people who do that are going to be jewelry makers and electronics makers.

And maybe some hopelessly nostalgic gold bugs.

EDIT: I might do it, just for nostalgia.

Is the global quantity of mined gold really only around 30 000 metric tonnes? That doesn't seem right..

Did some research a while back and came up with 160 000 tons of gold and 775 000 tons of silver existing above ground.

Can someone please pull the reigns on this runaway bitcoin donkey?

We need to develop some brakes for this bitcoin train, lol.

We need a rocket-powered Bitcoin donkey meme! Please will someone get on the case?!!  Smiley

If the rocket was inside the donkey, I think it could go viral.
