4241  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Are blockchain explorer threat to the privacy ? on: September 23, 2023, 01:52:54 PM
The question is what privacy?

The privacy that someone who has crypto funds has access to a certain PC (or a PC on a certain network)?
Well, not really all they know is someone had access to that machine. Could be someone at that house for a party, could be a friend who was waiting for the other friend to finish something before they went to go grab a beer, etc.

Since that PC / or network already had someone on it who used crypto it's not like there were not signs for crypto use coming from there anyway.

I guess a better question would be why would you use a block explorer for addresses you own / control?
Every wallet will show you your balance and if not why would you really want to bother typing in an 25 character BTC address in someone else's PC?

And truth be told, it's your money its none of your relatives business how you check and deal with it.
Worrying about who knows what past a certain point is well pointless.

Also keep in mind a while ago your privacy it's like your virginity, once you loose it you are not getting it back.
If you (or anyone) has been doing things that made a lot of your information public it's not going to disappear because you change want your are doing and how you are doing it.

-Dave

Born again virginity is not possible?

But making a btc amount private again can be done.

Note the coin yes to a large degree but not the address.

1JdC6Xg3ajT3rge3FgPNSYYFpmf53Vbtje will never be private.

1956jUdYPFwiBSzt9AECdWj3KE4WV7taiM will never be private.

https://btc1.trezor.io/address/bc1qmu9aky8nfqt7jrcp8pmzav5aurc5tj29w3y3d5

will never be private

but the coins can be made private if you want.
4242  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is it possible to accelerate this transaction on: September 23, 2023, 01:47:34 PM
It will eventually fall out of most nodes that have default settings:
Even now it's not in blockchair
https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/transaction/3a88b7e9edb449562f6a62e05e763d3890b7ffb52b5e8d0c21a19a2f1b2bd042
It might have been dropped from some nodes a while back, but now it's back on. Looks like it was rebroadcast an hour ago, according to blockchair.

Why would a service do such a thing if the transaction has been dropped from the mempool without even thinking about modifying the fee rate?

It costs nothing to do it (rebroadcast it). Then hope that fees drop to say 5 sats in a week or 2.

The biggest issue is recipient waits for his $$.

This problem is not going away for this and lots of other transactions.
4243  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2023 Diff thread now opened. on: September 23, 2023, 01:37:08 PM

4245  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Quantum Threat to Bitcoin: Implications for Miners, Nodes, and Wallets on: September 23, 2023, 12:41:28 PM
Just test it. For example, reduce SHA-256 into the first 16 rounds, and then try to attack your own
I love it when you expect everyone else to be a genius like yourself, it's like we have the means and knowledge at our fingertips to do the things you suggest. If OP knew how to attack SHA256, he wouldn't be here asking questions about wallets.

it is possible to raise the difficulty into some insane levels, and then just stop mining. Then, no rules will be broken, but the chain will be effectively halted, if for example the difficulty would be one million times bigger than it should be.

This is one dangerous idea, thinking about it makes you wonder, what if they can use their ability to produce custom double hashes and start collecting all the mining rewards?  And when they figure out a way to break sha256, what if for years they keep it a secret and then have access to everything dependent on sha256 security?

What if they manage to reverse some transactions in the future?

If sha256 is broken, miners and ASIC manufacturers are doomed, because they will have to throw all their rigs into trashcan.
This is why independent research is extremely vital especially for bitcoin, because as we know, we are on our own, because we chose decentralization we need to keep this system safe, no government will come to rescue if something happens, they have done all they could think of to limit and restrict bitcoin adoption, if something happens, they will sit and watch with joy and smile on their face.

What if diff is 200t it is the year 2040 and miners simply realize ltc/doge algo is far superior due to Doge never lowering its 10000 coin reward.

Doge is progressively lower % wise in inflation every year but always has a decent reward level for miners.

This threat above is greater than any other. Miners are the value bodyguards for a coin.  They will simply follow profits.  Much more threatening than a 'special' computer cracking address and taking fund out.
4246  Economy / Economics / Re: Early Retirement [Pros and Cons] on: September 23, 2023, 02:01:40 AM
Early retirement isn't the right term. It's much better to aim for fundamental independence, which means you can do whatever you want. If you want to work, you can. If you want to travel, you can. But if you don't want to do something, you don't have to. That's the kind of freedom I wouldn't mind having.

early freedom from compulsory work would be nice to have at 30 years old. Share the time with a nice lover. Work a bit here and there. short hours top pay so time is not wasted on the job .  You spend it with your lover. visit the world . eat at nice places. see other cultures.

That would be pretty nice gig to have. a unique high paying skill.
4247  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: September 23, 2023, 01:54:04 AM
Some 'hotheads' keep talking about $5-10 mil bitcoin in 10 years (2033).
I did some calculations:

1. Bitcoin will be $1.58 mil in 2033 if it goes up 50%/year (on average).
2. Bitcoin will be $27.14 mil in 2033 if it goes up 100%/year on average.

If counting from late 2011 (btc at $2), bitcoin went up roughly 2.25X a year (125%).
If counting from Sept 22, 2013 (btc at $133), bitcoin went up roughly 1.7X a year (70%)

Therefore, if bitcoin does a repeat of the last 10 years exactly, it would be $5.34 mil in late September 2033.

I like the numbers. It is hard to believe that it is possible, but it is.
All it takes is for btc to exactly mirror the last 10 years in appreciation.
"Nothing" special.

If not in our universe, then in some that is almost identical to ours, imho.

or it does not
current market cap = 550 million to 600 million

5.34 mill x 2 = 10.68 million
5.34 mill x 20 = 106.80 million
5.34 mill x 200 = 1.068 billion
5.34 mill x 2000 = 10.68 billion
5.34 mill x 20000 = 106.8 billion
5.34 mill x 200000 = 1.068 trillion
5.34 mill x 2000000 = 10.68 trillion
5.34 mill x 20,000,000 = 106.80 trillion market cap in 10 years.

not sure seems too good to be true.

in theory the 2013 dollar now needs to be 1.32

https://www.usinflationcalculator.com

but I think that is not that accurate.

I'm talking about a little humor. Nothing says meme here. So in your opinion, the discussion here should be serious? Right?

Hello Royse, I've just noticed that the bitcoin address for my week 46 and week 47 were wrong on the spreadsheet.
My Bitcoin address which is the right one as seen on the week 45 is:  bc1q5r62edxscmetffagyzt3756ty89028luv8yguj

While on week 46 and week 47 it has become: bc1ql0awexssl0flt5quxdcpga4n8w2c6pje0g4wxg
The owner of this address is odohu so the payment for my week 46 was sent to him. Hopefully, he'll send it to me once it's confirmed.

Apologies for the bother and mess if I've just noticed this suddenly after my promotion from full member to senior member payroll. Thanks.
It's great that you reached out to me. I sent him a PM, and I'm confident he will take care of it. You will receive the funds, minus transaction fees, to your address. If you haven't received them after 1 to 2 days, please let me know, and I will double-check.

Cheers,

ahh the joys of book keeping.

I am finishing my 2022 taxes thry are due oct 15.

I will need to do about a 100 page return. ugh.

4251  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A matter of family conflict regarding Bitcoin. on: September 23, 2023, 12:40:58 AM
This is actually unavoidable if you like marrying your bitcoin because of greed, and your whole life turns with it. Once you start seeing things are not working based on your plan, you will start to feel uncontrollable and resort into making some family conflict because of your unfortunate outcome from bitcoin investment. It just proves that once you invest in bitcoin, be sure to be more open minded and never expect too much from your investment so you won’t get easily affected once it turns out not working according to your plan.

I disagree this type of person would simply find another thing to invest and lose in.

Then blame his family for putting pressure on him in the first place.

Thus it justified him shooting his loved one. He is and will continue to be a sick person. The world does not need that type of person in general.

Here is hoping they execute him. Or at least jail him.
4252  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [INFO - DISCUSSION] Wormhole attack in Lightning Network on: September 23, 2023, 12:33:10 AM
Pardon me, but why isn't this considered an attack? If C doesn't seem to earn from routing transactions coming from either B or D, they can just close the channel. It is also possible to detect this if you spin up two lightning nodes each sharing a channel with B and D respectively. If you make transactions between the two without your main node noticing, you're under a wormhole attack.

Seems to me like the attacker is paying more than the victim.

BUT, it's still not going to generate a profit, just destabilize the LN.
If you're the government, and want to destabilize LN, make a call with Amazon and Google. According to bitcoinist.com, the network relies greatly on Google Cloud services and AWS.

Yeah how much real redundancy does the blockchain have?

But that is an entirely different topic/ thread.

I am still not sure how you would trace A-b-c-d-e in the ops example to prove an attack happened.

Sadly the poor will always be with us.

please note 🗒️ this idea above is as old as christ himself

and i paraphrased it as I don’t
know  the exact bible quote.

I grew up in New York City and saw tens of thousands of
poor homeless people  . I am in a less crowded spot now but there are dozens of homeless near my area.

I have witnessed to poor in every state in the usa i visited. say 25 states.

I have seen poor people in every asian country I have been in.

so i simply think they will not go away.
4255  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Using change addresses does not increase privacy, just fees on: September 22, 2023, 11:49:02 PM
I will keep all my bitcoin on 1 single address thank you and change it when I want.

Not spread it across many different directions/addresses everytime I send some btc causing much higher fees pretending my privacy is enhanced.

What a joke. What a con.

Many ways outside of the blockchain to increase privacy without clogging up bitcoin with such non sense.

I don't care if you think otherwise, I'm pretty mad/pissed/upset about it.

But whatever. Stay ignorant and keep paying higher fees.  Roll Eyes

I mean really, do you like when you go to move all your funds at once and realize you really have much less -- cause all the fees that need to happen because now all your bitcoins were spread across many different wallet addresses..

That is appealing to you? OK. Whatever.

EDIT:

For those of you who don't know, pretty much every bitcoin wallet app is forcing you to use these change addresses, and thats why the more you use it the higher your fees have been at random times.

Unless you were sending a small amount and it was pulling that from 1 address, then the fees were normal.

But when you went to spend a higher amount, you were paying higher fees if it had to hit 2, 3, 4, etc wallets that your funds cause "change addressed" to over time.

It wasn't because you were sending more bitcoin, that isn't how bitcoin was meant to work. The fee is always the same no matter the amount as long as all the bitcoins are in 1 bitcoin address.

In the early days when you went to lookup your wallet address on the blockchain you would see all your funds in the wallet.

But now if you do that and had spent bitcoins since then, you'll see they were moved to other wallets. Some funds would stay behind again if you hadn't spent funds since receiving.

This is sick. You don't need this and it doesn't help your privacy not at least in a way thats worth the sick fees you pay over time.

But if you been using an exchange you might never notice, cause they doing it the old way where the fees stay 50 cents to a dollar.

Take coinbase, venmo, cashapp, paypal for example thats what they charge to send btc.

Cashapp lets you send btc free on lightning network but you have to send $25+ otherwise it as an option to pay $1 or $2

If you tried doing this yourself the fees would get out of control over time, because now most wallets for some reason changed to this stupid false privacy enhancement that really does nothing but give you the illusion you have much more privacy. It does cause some people a headache -- but not worth the fees you pay at all over the long run, not even close. And its only getting worse.

and once again using doge and ltc for small transactions stops this problem in its tracks.

this simple fact is not changing any time soon.

What’s the conversation rate for 700,000baht against the USD? Can somebody do that for me?

Meanwhile, I went through the whole story with the provided link and it wasn’t really about bitcoins but, it’s been staged as the excuse here. I think bitcoin is being victimized in this whole dispute as, it was already a failed relationship between them both else, why would a couple live apart and why was the supposed husband scared the said wife would cheat on him.

The husband went too far and was really in on having the divorce option off the table for them but, the length he went is one that doesn’t fix any problems but instead, destroys the possibility of any further relations.

Living someone so much shouldn’t be showed in your quest to take their life rather than have anyone else have them but, in the sacrifices you could endure to enable them have there best and you share in there joys in life.

roughly 20000 usd is 700000 baht.

but in that country it is cheap to live and salaries are low.

it is around 100,000 baht a month or 7 months is 700,000 baht.

I used google search and got 1,160,000 baht a year .

which I rounded to 100,000 baht a month

nic carter saying that the NSA is the one who created Bitcoin, so NSA is Satoshi Nakamoto? although this is just a theory, on the news they are showing evidence that it was the NSA who created Bitcoin what are your thoughts?
here is the link to the news:
https://cointelegraph.com/news/nic-carter-supports-bitcoin-invented-by-nsa-conspiracy-theory
Apart from admitting to inventing bitcoin, what else will the NSA admit to. News continues to be reported that shows controversy and I am sure this will continue to happen and be done to bring down Bitcoin which is considered successful. Maybe in the future it will no longer be the NSA who will admit that bitcoin is their invention, maybe someone else.

Screenshot of the paper shared on Twitter belonging to Daniel Roberts with the username @danroberts0101 from the one listed on the cointelgraph link does not really support that it is a correct theory if its level of truth is tested in court because in my opinion it is different from the bitcoin white paper that we know belongs to Satoshi Nakamoto.

It's getting weirder every day.
Why not create a new private innovation if they think Bitcoin can be successful.

Well looks like that journal should be in print and could simply be sourced.

Are those hogs good to eat?

Not at all. Best to leave their carcasses to be picked clean by the vultures. Takes 'em about two days...

Too bad I like pork. It would make hunting them more fun.

here is an interesting blog entry about the new s21 miner from Bitmain:

Quote
Bitmain revealed the Antminer S21 at its World Digital Mining Summit in Hong Kong this week, the latest, most powerful, and most efficient Bitcoin ASIC miner yet from the Bitcoin mining ASIC manufacturer.
https://hashrateindex.com/blog/what-is-the-antminer-s21-everything-to-know-about-bitmains-latest-asic-miner/

the pre-orders can now be created on luxor.tech: https://go.luxor.tech/antminer-s21
and in this tweet you can see a little video of the new mining 'monster': https://twitter.com/BitcoinNewsCom/status/1705188333213650989

I would get two for testing.

Waste of money.

1) For a desktop PC all you have to do is pop the top and add in a USB card.
2) They are still plastic, with time and effort you can pull one out.
3) For the determined person it's get laptop, take off cover, un-solder the port (only 4 wires on USB 2) and solder in a new one. But at that point you might as well just pull the drive out

Most if not all PCs can disable the USB ports in BIOS and you can also set a BIOS password so that cannot be changed without the password.

-Dave

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the easiest way to reset a BIOS password still to just remove the mainboard battery? Or was that only possible 20 years ago and things have changed? not up to date, but most likely BIOS pws are still quite easy to circumvent I would guess.

A lot depends on the pc case and how well it is secured.

A usb lock you paid for and stuck in a case can pretty much be pulled out with a pliers in about 1 minute.

It is visible and easy to attack it with this
