4261  Other / Meta / Re: Forum ads auction rules on: September 02, 2021, 03:58:01 PM
The forum is incapable of effectively moderating scams, attempting to handle something you can't effectively do would create lots of loop holes that would be easily exploited and the unsuspecting members who expect to be protected would fall victim.
Beg to disagree. Police and justice system tends to be quite ineffective. Should we abandon it, so we don't get false sense of safety? On the other hand, maybe open carry is a right solution.

Secondly, Bitcoin is a decentralized network and each person involved in it act as their own banks. This forum which is for bitcoin discussions should ideally be designed the same way, you are responsible for your security.
We might as well abandon trust system all together (or at least for everything beside trading), if we are all responsible for our own security. Why should we tag someone promoting ponzi that promises 200% daily profit, people should use their own head and know that something like that is not possible. Yet we do it all the time, myself included.

That reminds me of one interesting post made by eddie13, which I shortened a little bit as it was quite lengthy.

Should never have put the temporary illusion of safety above personal liberty..
ie tagging and chasing away “likely scammers” and crushing the unique economic dynamic of account sales..

This forum started acting like protecting idiots is more important than letting users express their free wills..

How many countless good and intelligent users have been chased away because they “might” scam..

A new startup can’t come here and start a signature campaign for example without completely being bullied into “trusting” some escrow they have probably never heard of, so heaven forbid they couldn’t possibly scam some users willing to take the risk..

A new user can hardly post anything for sale here without being bullied into some 3rd party “idiot protection” scheme because OMG they might try to scam you..

A new user here can’t start lending on any sort of collateral because holy shot they might scam the collateral..

All new economics here CRUSHED by regulatory bullying in the name of “protecting idiots”...

We have 1-2 open slots.
4263  Other / Meta / Re: I found a strange happening on this thread on: August 31, 2021, 09:47:23 PM
Hero Member = 500 merit airdrop
You are correct. I will just add that theymos after the launch of the merit system made some tweaks, which gave some hero members an additional 500 merits, making it 1000 in total.
I read somewhere that he did that in order to help those that were very close to Legendary rank but at the introduction of merit system they were short on activity. Reasonable decision as it's not easy at all to get 500 merit and I I'm sure those affected were in quiet a shock. I know I would be in the similar situation.
4264  Other / Meta / Re: Forum ads auction rules on: August 31, 2021, 12:50:52 PM
On the other hand, the forum's we don't moderate scams policy prevents him from meddling into what other people are advertising.
Yeah I'm well aware of that, but in both cases (banners and sigs) the end result is the same, forum has been used to advertise and promote scam.

I don't know how often people here talk about bitcointalk with other crypto enthusiasts (I do almost daily) and one of the popular answers I get when I ask why are they avoiding it is that it's scammers paradise  where they can do whatever the fuck they want, which sucks but that's how part of crypto community  perceives this forum.
4265  Other / Meta / Re: Forum ads auction rules on: August 31, 2021, 11:53:57 AM
It seems somehow logical to me that if theymos doesn't allow someone to advertise via banners (like in this case 1xbit), that their signature campaign gets banned too. But as we can see their campaign goes on. Is there any explanation why that's not the case, what am I missing here? After all, those sigs are shown the forum.
4266  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: [Chart]Yearly, Monthly & Weekly Overview Of The Unofficial Nigeria Local Board on: August 31, 2021, 08:54:32 AM
Nicely done @igehhh! I suggest that you add that post to Request for Nigeria local board as an extra argument. Who knows, it might help.

Thinking of it, one other thing that might be used as an argument for getting local board is maybe a pie chart or something similar to show ranks of currently active members for let's say this year or last 12 months, just to show that it's not some newbies writing there (that have tendencies going afk), but long term high ranking members too. Something like I did here.
4267  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Mjesečna Analiza za Hrvatsku Lokalnu Zajednicu (Bitcointalk Croatian) on: August 30, 2021, 04:35:04 PM

Cheesy

4268  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: August 30, 2021, 12:03:39 PM
@Rikafip I sent you a PM, please can you draft it out for me? Thank you.
Now I remembered that you sent me PM few weeks ago but I completely forgot to answer you, apologies for that!

Regarding the overview of your local thread, I don't think that I can help you much about that. Since @DdmrDdmr Merit Dashboard doesn't provide the same data for local boards and for communities without local boards (like your Nigerian topic) you can't really do something like @fillippone is doing for Italian board or me for Croatian board.

What you can do though is extract the data I am using, like amount of merit shared/post made in Nigerian thread, top posters etc and maybe maybe couple of charts to see progress of activity through months. Regarding charts tool, if you want some user friendly, you can use online chart tool (that's the one I used at the beginning) but I suggest you trying Google charts as it offers much more customization.

4270  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Mjesečna Analiza za Hrvatsku Lokalnu Zajednicu (Bitcointalk Croatian) on: August 29, 2021, 09:52:23 AM

Lista aktivnih clanova naseg boarda u periodu 1.07-31.07.

Grin

4271  Other / Meta / Re: When NFT board? on: August 29, 2021, 06:10:23 AM
Since you are veteran member, you should have known about using search option and leaving your request/arguments in of the existing "when" NFT board" threads.

Just because there is a lot of hype around NFTs doesn't mean that same thing is happening here and that's the main requirement for getting a separate board; existing one being dominated by NFTs, which is obviously not the case.
4272  Economy / Reputation / Re: 5m*$0.01 isn't equal to $50k on: August 28, 2021, 06:03:31 AM
How can 5 million token worth $0.01 each worths $150k? I replied in the thread but OP seems not to care about that.
Why would even they care? Hundreds of hunters are joining without even reading lol. Such a heaven!
You answered yourself there, no one really cares; bounty hunters are lemmings that are mindlessly joining new campaign not caring much about trivial stuff like bounty pool size and whether it make sense, while CakeBNB hasn't been online ever since they created that bounty thread and most likely won't even distribute bounty tokens so why should they bother adjusting bounty pool or whether math checks out. It's just a quick cash grab afterall.

By the way, you could have shared the bounty thread so we don't have to search it by ourselves.
4273  Other / Meta / Re: The forum culture is to kill all newbies? on: August 27, 2021, 01:11:03 PM
I wanna ask, is this the culture forum? A culture of bullying newbies. Is this still a sacred legacy left by Satoshi Nakamoto? Why is it taken over by some tyrants and bandits? It's the biggest insult to Satoshi Nakamoto.
Considering the fact that majority of new accounts created here are alt accounts made for some sort of abuse, members of this forum are not as strict towards newbies as some (and you) might think.

And yeah, man up and stop QQing so much. These things happen on the forums and if you wanna be a part of it, grow a thicker skin and start dealing with it. Genuine newbies have nothing to worry about, while scammers and all those trying to abuse rules usually find out that that what can pass on other platform, doesn't fly here.

And how the hell you know what's an insult to Satoshi Nakamoto?

4274  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BLACKMAIL on: August 27, 2021, 11:29:58 AM
First of all, what does it say in the blackmail email you got? Fake blackmail emails are a pretty common scam technique so my guess is that you got one of those. Just ignore that stuff and don't open any files (if there are any). Unfortunately, nothing much can be done with that address.
4275  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: No one is perfect and anybody can make mistakes on: August 27, 2021, 07:38:58 AM
So you are saying a tag on dogeporn wouldn't have changed things.
Not that neutral tag wouldn't change anything, but not even negative tag on dogeporn would change anything. Thing is, bounty hunters generally don't care about trivial stuff like that (whether project is scam or not) and the only thing that can persuade them not to join a pure scam is fear of getting account tagged, and even then it only works for those that join signature campaign.

Being a DT, you should leave at minimum a neutral against scam projects[/qupte]
What you fail to understand is that at that time Dogeporn looked like just another useless shitcoin project (like 99% altcoin projects here), but it wasn't tehnically a scam yet. Or maybe you suggest that we should preemptively tag every new altcoin as a scam before they even scam anyone because most likely they will?

4276  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Daytrading vs Holding on: August 26, 2021, 09:20:23 AM
Holding give me big kick.  I put 10k into shiba and was just dipping to a point where I had 2k left so I pulled out and was jumping on all the pump and dumps, I made 61k back over 2 months and will never hold onto a coin ever again but each to there own
No wonder you got rekted as memecoins like Shiba are not meant for hodling, and same goes for 99% of the other altcoins. Regarding day trading, many have good streaks for a couple of weeks or months at the most, but in the long run 95% of them would have more if they just opted for hodl. But of course, not hodling crap like Shiba but BTC.

If you are among those few % that are capable of staying in profit in the long run, keep it up!
4277  Economy / Reputation / Re: My 30 questions for theymos on: August 25, 2021, 01:26:14 PM
theymos will have a birthday in a little less than two weeks
Do you or anyone else here know how old he is?  I'm not sure if I ever really thought about it, but now I'm curious.
Back in 2013 he did reddit AMA in which he shared some info about himself, including his age. An interesting read, I suggest you check it if you haven't already. If he told the truth, he is much younger than I initially thought he is.
4278  Economy / Reputation / Re: Message from unknown + trust abuse from member "Nutildah" on: August 24, 2021, 01:41:15 PM
Can you provide evidence that i am not myself ?
I don't claim that you are not who you say you are, I just said that you didn't provide any evidence whatsoever for your claims. The burden of proof is on you, not on me.

@colires how come you don't wanna share evidence publicly? And if you are absolutely sure, why didn't you leave him any feedback yet?
4279  Economy / Reputation / Re: Message from unknown + trust abuse from member "Nutildah" on: August 24, 2021, 01:23:04 PM
I do not claim, i am myself.
Yet you can't provide any evidence for your claims.

If you had brain to re-search who you're talking with, you would realize our "brand" was sold with BoglaGold years ago when Runescape wanted to sue us.
How convenient. So no way to check your identity.

I had (and maybe still have) more than 10 active impersonators back in the days. And i won't be surprised if someone claim to be me.
Maybe you are one those impersonators.

If you like to build your own name and become a trusted member, better check out how the big guys doing it.
If you really wanted to build up your name, why making account using the name from some other forum, that you sold and have absolutely no way to confirm your identity? Doesn't make much sense to me to be honest...
4280  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If bitcoin go high the poor will not participate on: August 24, 2021, 12:42:09 PM
I am thinking that if the bitcoin continue to go up to $100,000 and above.  it will be expensive for the poor people to invest. It will be for only rich people. It will be better for bitcoin will not go so much high so that it will be affordable to everybody to invest and have profit.
I thought the same back in late 2013/early 2014, when BTC was around ~1000 USD, that I was way too late, it was too expensive and I couldn't afford one whole Bitcoin so i tuned to alts (big mistake of course). But even if BTC drops to let's say 5K, I think majority of "poor" (I guess you mean ordinary) people would be scared to buy it as from my experience, Bitcoin was too expensive for them even when price was 80% lower than it is now.

Worst thing about that perception of being too late for Bitcoin is that turns people towards shitcoins, like it happened to me.
