4281  Other / Meta / Re: Creating فارسی (Persian) Sub-Board under Local Board on: August 17, 2021, 07:48:24 AM
Be fair, what can somebody write in a single thread?
Take a look at other threads in Other Languages section. In some of them there are dozens of active members writing hundreds of posts per month, and yet they are still waiting for their own local board, while you don't meet either of those two requirements, at least not yet.

The same thing was with my local board (Croatian); we also had only one thread and we got our own local board after forum staff  got convinced that there is enough interest and a real need for our own local board. And same thing happened for every other local board as that's how it works; first you have to show that there is a real need for your own local board, and then go for it and not the other way around.

Even then, it will take some time (probably years) before you get your own local board as those in charge don't wanna make new board just to die out in a year or two, like it happened with quite a few boards already so they want to be absolutely sure that it makes sense to make a new one.

For example why you just count one thread? what if I aggreagte all persian topics in Other languages/locations board?
Well, do that then, add all that to your first post as an extra argument.

Just my 2 cents as I am not the one who decides on the matter. By the way, I am not against making new boards, on the contrary, I think that at least 2-3 communities deserve their own.
4282  Other / Meta / Re: Are useful links allowed or are they categorically excluded? on: August 17, 2021, 07:34:24 AM
It is reasonable that this is the case, but my friend was banned for linking to a very long external article, of which he reposted the initial part: title, summary, index, link.
First to say that this "asking for friend" thing always make me chuckle. Cheesy

Now that you mentioned that "your friend" get banned for reposting a very long article, did he just copy/pasted whole artile and just shared link at the bottom, without providing own comment on the matter? I am asking because someone might report it for being a low quality post, which it is if it was made that way.

By the way, what's your "friend" username? Posts are archived here so we should be able to see the post that got him banned?
4283  Other / Meta / Re: Creating فارسی (Persian) Sub-Board under Local Board on: August 17, 2021, 06:03:14 AM
Persian speaking community from Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan and other countries are strength enough to have a separate sub-board on bitcointalk forum.
Not really, according to the numbers in your local thread. Since creation back in 2014, 581 posts were written, and this year only ~20. These numbers indicate that there is not enough interest for writing in Persian, at least for now.

Best you can do is to start being more active in that one and try to bring more people into that thread so maybe one day you have a chance for your own local board, but as @Bitcoin_Arena, it won't be easy to get one.
4284  Other / Meta / Re: What do you think of the Bitcoin Discussion section? Does he need to change? on: August 16, 2021, 05:30:40 PM
They care only about the quantity of the posts and the visibility of their signature. Maybe the admins should consider a pilot program of some sorts. Don't allow altcoin signature participants to post in the Bitcoin Discussion boards for a week or two and see what will happen in terms of spam, reported and deleted posts, etc. It might be too restrictive and controversial though.
Looking at Bitcoin discussion board, it doesn't seem to me that it's dominated by altcoin signatures and that they are the main cause of the issues. On the contrary, seems to me that majority of posts are written by those that are in Bitcoin signature campaigns. Current bar set to enter one of the signature campaigns paid in BTC is very low due high amount of campaigns and lack of quality members, so even a  shitposter  with 5-10 merits in the last 120 will be capable to secure a spot.

Now that signature campaigns are mentioned, I wish managers remove subpar participants more often but then again, I understand why they don't do that as they probably won't find adequate replacements so they just go on as it is.
4285  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the legal status of Bitcoin in your country? on: August 16, 2021, 05:14:32 PM
10% + what we call surtax, which depends on where you live in the country - and as far as I can see in the capital surtax is as much as 18%.
True, I forgot about surtax as in the part of Croatia where I have residence we have 0% surtax, so I kinda got used to not take that into consideration. AFAIK Zagreb has the highest legally possible surtax in Croatia and yeah, it's far from negligent amount.

I don’t know how smart that is, because laws can change at any time - and it’s also a question of whether there is any condition for a person to be exempt from paying crypto taxes (in terms of length of stay in the country). If I went to live in Portugal with a crypto I bought in another country, would that mean I don’t have to pay taxes if I sell that same crypto in Portugal?
Well, they are really adamant about avoiding paying crypto taxes in Croatia out of principle (corruption etc) so they are looking for ways to pay as little as possible, or avoid at all. Some of them are also full time in crypto and plan to stay in this industry so they are looking for a long term solutions.  Another option I heard them mentioning is Belarus which also allegedly has very favorable crypto/tax laws (or lack of Cheesy).
4286  Other / Meta / Re: 10th anniversary art contest as NFT on: August 16, 2021, 01:55:18 PM
Sure they are. They just changed the packaging, added some new colors, and started calling them differently. Now you have Initial Exchange Offerings (IEO) and Security Token Offerings (STOs). Once people become tired of those, they'll invent the next big thing, like NFTs.
As a matter of fact, both IEO and STO are kinda thing of the past, and the latest and most popular thing now is IDO (Initial Dex Offerings), but the end goal is pretty much the same, to take money from naive, greedy and ignorant, like it was in ICO times.

Regarding NFTs, it's true that there is a shit load of hype around it that reminds of 2017 altcoins craze, but I think that they are here to stay and with the time we gonna get implementations that actually make sense, once we are over with this initial hype and bunch of useless crap.
4287  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the legal status of Bitcoin in your country? on: August 16, 2021, 10:29:26 AM
What is very positive for crypto investors is that capital gains tax is not necessary to pay, if at least 2 years have passed since the day of purchase.
Yep, so it's not really that hard to avoid taxes in Croatia (which are moderate, 10%) if you don't have issues hodling a little bit. But even with that relatively low tax rate, people tend to avoid paying taxes in Croatia, at least people around me and they don't even care about that 2 years thing.

The choice of physical outlets where it is possible to buy/sell cryptocurrencies has really increased recently, and the fact that there is still no KYC can be thanked to our incompetent government (at least they are good at something) which has not yet adopted AMDL5 which should have come into force in early 2020. I agree that it is only a matter of time before that changes.
Those are some of the rare perks of not living in the first-world country. Same reason why majority of people in Croatia are avoiding paying crypto taxes. That will change though, and few of my friends are already looking into possibility of moving to Portugal as they have zero taxes on crypto there.
4288  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Pregled Bitcointalk Signature-Ad kampanja on: August 16, 2021, 10:13:37 AM

4289  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Helpful tools to determine potential coin & token to invest on: August 16, 2021, 09:17:07 AM
Compared to other available audit company right now, Certik is the most famous among all since I involve on many DeFi startup project.
That's all they are, the most popular ones, exactly the same as ICObench as they are the most popular ICO tracking/scoring site too. Being audited by Certik means squat, but is often used by scammy shitcoins as  pitch, to appear more legit. And exactly the same thing as ICOs were using ICOBench back in 2017, bragging about the score on their websites to attract investors.

I have a friend that is working on a project, and they paid Certik shit load of money to  find possible bugs in their code. Recently, they stumbled upon a major bug (luckily before hackers) in their smart contract that if exploited would completely rekt them, which Certik failed to identify. So yeah, you can pretty much ignore "audited by Certik" thing when you are DYOR on some altcoin.
4290  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What the forum expect from me and my expectation from the forum on: August 16, 2021, 07:06:18 AM
Welcome to the forum, one piece of advice: If you plan to make a new thread about something, don't just copy/paste whole article without leaving any personal opinion on the matter, like you just did with Five New Altcoins Launch Across Coinbase’s Crypto Trading Platforms . Topics like that are redundant and serve nothing really if you don't share your own opinion as that's what forum is for.

Proper way to start topic is to copy/paste paragraph or two that cover most important things, and then leave your own comment.
4291  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Helpful tools to determine potential coin & token to invest on: August 16, 2021, 06:24:42 AM

NOTE: Never invest on meme coin, copy pasted website format from know project, no audit from trusted company like Certik and make sure the Liquidity Pool was locked to avoid rug pull! Always #DYOR guys!
Just to comment on that bolded part, Certik is not trusted or reputable at all. They are basically equivalent of ICOBench and are willing to give nice score to anyone with enough money.

One example: few months ago I found out that they are auditing https://coinswap.space/, some shitty DeFi platform. Problem with Coinswap is that it was the newest project of a known ponzi scheme Troncase which in the mean time collapsed (you can read more about Troncase here. Anyway, I contacted Certik, gave them all the evidence that same people control both Coinsawap and Troncase, which they of course ignored, and gave them nice rating. And now Coinswap proudly presents Certik on their website, as one of the proofs that they are legit. Hell, even that scammy shitcoin SafeMoon has 89/100 trust score on their site, that tells you everything you have to know about Certik.

So, listen to your own advice, DYOR and don't trust Certik or anyone else for that matter.
4292  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the legal status of Bitcoin in your country? on: August 15, 2021, 04:45:37 PM
While in Croatia we don't have any specific crypto law, you can do pretty much  anything except pay taxes with it (AFAIK). So if you wanna report your trade profits, you would do it same as you would for stocks, while for example mining is taxed as 2nd income and the same would do for profits from signature campaigns (again AFAIK).

Overall, situation in Croatia is pretty good for crypto enthusiasts, especially since there are ways to legally buy/sell up to 2,000 euro worth of crypto per day from crypto exchanges without any sort of KYC but somehow I think that won't last for long and sooner or later we will be hit with more strict regulation. But well, at least we can enjoy while it lasts as i know that in many countries you can't do that anymore.
4293  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How I wish i knew about Bitcoin before now on: August 15, 2021, 01:11:44 PM
I've written this before, but be careful what you want, because the market reset you imagine might be the beginning of the end, because if, say, the price falls below $1000, how do you think most people would react to that?
+1

Honestly, majority of people that are thinking stuff like "I wish I knew about Bitcoin when it was very low" would be scared shitless if BTC drops below $1,000 and would probably thinking about selling what they have instead buying more. I remember last year when BTC was around ~9k and I had to urgently sell some so I asked all of those friends that were pestering me in the late 2017 when price was around then ATH, and none were interested. Naturally, year later when BTC went over 40k same people contacted me again, asking if I am willing to sell some.
4294  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Things I wish I knew before starting my crypto journey on: August 14, 2021, 03:29:09 PM
Thing I wish I knew  at the begininng? I wish I knew that there is nothing wrong in first having fraction of Bitcoin, but I can slowly accumulate. If I knew that, I wouldn't waste my early crypto days on shitcoins. Then again, friends around that started around the same time were newbies too so I didn't really have anyone trustworthy to give me couple of advices.

2nd thing I wish knew more about is importance of security and all the dangers that lie, as back in 2017 I was a victim of phishing attack and lost almost everything. I guess it was just a school a had to pay.
4295  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: August 14, 2021, 11:55:16 AM
@Rikafip, I almost sent you a PM about this delay. But thank goodness you did in the second week. Let me get some good point from the July update from the latest update that I will pin to my thread.
Haha no worries even if you sent as some other people were asking me about it (looking at @fillippone Cheesy) . This delay was unplanned, but even though it looks like it was big, as a matter of fact it wasn't as the earliest I could do it was August 6th because if I did it earlier, I would miss data for a couple of days at end of the month. Hopefully next month real life doesn't get in a way of my forum activity.

Two charts in the July overview ("Merits" and "Merit senders and receivers") are updated with the missing Pilipinas info.

Hvala, dodano u prvi post.
4297  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: August 13, 2021, 05:45:40 PM
Croatian board has always been near the bottom of the chart when it comes to merit/post ratio. I am glad that has changed.
Yep, it was pretty much obvious from that first monthly overview I made that our local board was seriously undermerited considering our activity, overall post quality and pretty much spam free board. All that is changed ever since we got two new merit sources, so no excuses anymore Cheesy.

I am going to piggyback some of your graph for my post:
[Meta] Andamento sezione italiana

Wondering what happened in the dutch local board: maybe @El duderino_ got into a merit frenzy?
Be my guest! Regarding unusually high Dutch board merit/post ratio, you are right about @El duderino_, he indeed pushed their ratio. Then again, these things happen on lower activity boards, as few good posts that get a lot of merit can really inflate the numbers.

Excellent data dump and presentation, Rikafip!  Lately I've been wondering about merit distribution on the local boards, and everything you presented in your last post pretty much answers every question I had, so thank you.
I am glad to hear that you find it useful and that I am not doing it only for myself, even though I actually enjoy making these charts as It's completely different from my usual forum activity, and I only do it once per month so it became kind of ritual for me.

I wish there was some way I could help out with handing out merits in local sections, but I don't speak any of the languages.  If I were to be willing to trust a trusted member reporting an unmerited post that was worthy of merit (in their opinion) and merit it myself, do any of you think that would present a major issue?  The only reason I want to do this is because I know some boards don't have their own merit sources (or simply enough merits to go around).  If I could inject a bunch of merits into a local board, hopefully they'd continue to circulate among the members there.

Good idea, bad idea?
To be honest, I don't see any major issues with that approach. Alternatively, you could use Google Chrome or any other browser with built in translation tool to quickly check out if post you are about to merit makes sense. After all, it is not unusual for merit sources to visit local boards of the language they don't speak, as some of them helped our local board (Croatian) many times and chimed in with a couple of merits.

There is also another way that you could help undermerited boards; choose one of them, and using Merit Dashboard you can see their most merited posts/threads in any time frame you set as chances are that most merited posts are at least, so you don't waste too much of your time looking around.

For example, Pilipinas board seems very undermerited lately, with only 27 merits shared while having more than 700 posts written. If you look at Merit senders/receivers chart, they also have very high amount of users being part of the merit system, relative to their very low amount of merit shared.

So, this is how that looks like, and you could to the same for any other board. Anyway, just an idea that might help you.

Edit: seems like I completely forgot to include Pilipinas board in couple of those charts. Gonna sort that out asap!
4298  Other / Meta / Re: [CHARTS] Brief monthly overview of the local boards activity on: August 13, 2021, 02:34:38 PM
New month, new brief monthly overview of the local board activity, this time with a slight delay due unforeseen circumstances. All charts were made with the help of @DdmrDdmr and his Merit Dashboard

Communities marked with * don't have their own local boards.

Post activity per local board during July 2021

When you compare this chart with the June 2021, you will see that there is not much difference; Turkish at the top, followed by German, Portuguese and Italian, and all the other boards didn't experience any dramatic changes either, with the Indonesian board being the only exception here, but looking at Merit Dashboard it seems that last month's low number was due high amount of deleted posts.

Another board that was affected with the same thing and is missing from this chart is Russian local board; albeit being probably on par with the Turkish board in therms of post activity, they once again had huge amount of deleted/archived posts. Just wanna stress that it's nothing to worry about and these things happen, especially on the very active boards.

Merit shared per local board during June 2021

Due recent adjustment in merit sources smerit allocation, this chart looks different, as expected. What's interesting though is that not all local boards were affected; looking from percentage pov, Atrabic  board is the biggest gainer this month (from 56 during 6/2021 to 285 during 7/2021 ) followed by Indonesian (62-230), Croatian (66-242)  Russian ( 944 -2867 )  and Portuguese (210-372). What surprises me though is that it seems like both Turkish and German board didn't get any extra smerit, at least not looking at this chart.

Merit senders and receivers per local board during July 2021

As expected, numbers here went up, especially "receivers" in the Russian local board, which is of course good thing, more people being part of the merit system.

Merit/Post ratio per local board for June 2021

Not a surprise that blue color dominates on this chart, with the pretty much standard names at the top. It will be interesting to see whether local boards keep up these numbers in the months to come, as I hope that boards will become a little bit more active once summer is over.

The most active members during July 2021 per local board

Last but not the least, list of the most active people that are keeping their locals alive. This time I decided to add 3 most active communities without local boards; Pakistan, Nigerian and Bangladesh. As always, list is made using the data from @TryNinja ninjastic.space

List is made using the data from @TryNinja ninjastic.space

Hi fillippone,
Do you know if this thread of yours was translated into Croatian? I can see that Rikafip mentioned about wanting to have that resource in the local boards, but I don't remember seeing the thread in the Croatian sub. Did anyone tell you that they translated it? Rikafip?
As @tranthuding said, I already translated the topic, and you even commented there and share one resource (that I just added to the first post).

Regarding this topic, it proved it be useful in real life too. Few months ago my younger brother wanted to dive in crypto and didn't really knew where to start, so I just shared him topic. Few weeks later, he shared this topic to the couple of his buddies that wanted in as well Smiley.
