4301  Other / Off-topic / Re: I won $640 million jackpot on: April 01, 2012, 11:45:10 AM
I bought a lottery ticket when it was down at $240 million.  I matched enough numbers to win $3 from my $1 ticket.  So when it got to $500m, then I thought that I'd buy another ticket using $1 my previous winnings.  When I went to put my money in the machine it already had a $1 credit.  Things so I bought a two dollar ticket for $1.  I was thinking "this is a sign!"  Then came the drawing and... nothing.  haha.  Still doubled my money though.  Just think of all the things I can do with that extra $1!

Be careful. Reinvesting winnings into more gambling is a sign of a problem gambler. Sure, it starts out with just a $1 ticket. Before you know though you'll be buying $2 tickets. Maybe even two of them. Then where will you be?
Problem gamblers live in the casino, not buying lottery tix's - however this could be a good start  Wink
Though, with Bitcoin (and the various Poker sites, and I read there's some strange LotR online thing involving physical slot machines), the casino is in your house.  Shocked
4302  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Starfish BCB - Loans and Deposits (deposit rate 1.5%/week) on: April 01, 2012, 11:26:51 AM
BCB doesn't actually stand for anything, but if you want it to, that's ok.  In my jurisdiction there are laws against using the word "bank" in company names, so I avoided writing that.
BDK & BCB aren't banks, son los bancos. Huge difference.

We don't offer demand deposit services, we offer services which aren't necessarily guaranteed to be paid when the depositor wants.

"BDK" & "BCB" don't offer loans or issue CDs (and by "CDs," I of course mean personal loans issued to us), we do.

Thanks to laws, consumers win.
4303  Other / Off-topic / Re: [POLL] Which language for theymos via musical selections? on: April 01, 2012, 10:52:53 AM
Chinese. We can stop fucking around with incomprehensible Engrish and have Theymos directly translate everything. Tons of good information and products in Chinese, but often, the translation to English & Western numbering systems makes it difficult or impossible to understand. There could be a "Request Translation" button near the "Report" button which requests Theymos output an English version of the text in the post. How much would he charge for doing that, I wonder.
4304  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Zhou Tonged - WHY WAIT? on: April 01, 2012, 10:36:24 AM
Hey, the "zh" sound in zhou is pronounced as "j". The "ou" is pronounced as the syllables in dough or go.
Hmmm.... It'd be funnier if the "ou" had a long "u" sound. Jew-Tong'd. (spoken as a Pollock)
4305  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Deepbit needs to be dismantled immediately. on: April 01, 2012, 10:33:27 AM
There are a lot of pools out there, and miners still go to Deepbit, let the Invisible Hand decides.
Invisible Hand doesn't work very efficiently without all parties being informed ("creative destruction" isn't necessary if parties pulled their money out prior to the "destruction" -- that's a concept only logical when a company's already insolvent and unprofitable). Threads like this are necessary. (not that I agree with Atlas, though I like the concept of p2pool)
4306  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BDK] We're back! Offering free escrow services and issuing CDs @ ~5% MPR! on: April 01, 2012, 10:11:32 AM
Most of my family stuff should be done and I ought to be able to reply in a timely manner. Cousin's husband most likely (according to the same doctors which said he had a 98% chance of having lymphoma) does not have lymphoma. They found two tumors (instead of the one they previously thought), but they're liquid-filled and thought to be benign, though they're waiting on another biopsy.

The I/O report for March is completed, and April's has been started. We ended the month with ~฿60 in profit (excluding profits from equities), with over ฿4 pushed to IBB & BTC100 (these donations should finally start to be significant in May as "forked" loans expire). We begin April by writing off >$400 in loans, though I still expect profits for April to exceed the value of last month.

Other Recent News:

S² Capital Management recently made their first deposit which should signify the beginning of a long, mutually-beneficial relationship. First dividends to S² will be made on Tuesday, and each Tuesday after.

The transaction to get in on Goat's latest (and, IMO, his most interesting) project has gone through. I'm looking forward to being able to talk about it. Also considering investing in his Spread Bot.

For better or worse, I have gone through with investing more directly with Pirate (currently, only ฿100 is invested in Pirate without it being insured by someone else). I have received a PM from someone who was interested in buying a CD who then cancelled because of this gamble. While I don't yet intend to change course (expecting ฿1000 in Pirate within a few months, though that's the hard limit), I would like to just point out that ownership equity far exceeds not only what I have in Pirate now, but the limits I've set (฿1000 in an insured program, ฿1000 uninsured), so if Pirate defaults AND the insurer defaults, ownership equity will still exceed liabilities -- BDK will still be solvent.

CD rates will remain the same for the month of April.
4307  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: can anything beat 5850's for $149 purely on Mh/$ on: March 31, 2012, 01:43:25 PM
However, you will need 4 5850s to do the job of 1 7970. The wattage to run 4 5850s is 400*4=1600W (taken from http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/graphics/display/radeon-hd5850_11.html#sect0).

Unless my Kill-A-Watt is broken that figure is crazy my 5850 takes 230w, full GPU usage during hashing, from the wall according too it. That is whole machine single slot board with pentium 2180 1gb ram and hard drive with all unnecessary devices turned off in BIOS clocks set to 900,300.
You are correct. They pull ~200W way less than 400W.  Wink

What did you learn from your experiment?

How many coins were taken? Do you have any data on the people whose coins you took? Or was it just, "could I do it? Would they really download it?"
4309  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Magazine on: March 30, 2012, 01:13:30 PM
Finished the ULINE catalog. I've seen every single product they have to offer and probably read the description for over 80% of them. I know the different width & tensile strengths of their cable ties, know the NRR of their various ear plugs, and know the load capacity of their shelving units. Next up is product/# memorization. The 5+ hours I put into memorizing these prior to BTCMag arriving will save me minutes if I were ever to order packing, organization, cleaning, and/or trash receptacles over the phone.
Next up is this one:

You might be able to finish it in time for the magazine to arrive. Maybe.
Good idea. Ordered. Thanks.  Grin

Nutella, raw onion, jell-o with vegetables in it (WHY?!).

Subbed (waiting for it to function).
Any updates on when this will be back up, or if owner is even aware of issue?

Well, it's up, ain't it? upforeveryoneorjustme.com?

4314  Economy / Services / Re: Want Coin? Find me cheap, quality ingredients & packaging! on: March 30, 2012, 07:46:30 AM
mmmm, I know very little about almonds so I figured that was the right category Tongue

About the free shipping: I might have misread that as I clicked shipping on the bottom of the page (under useful information) and links to this page http://www.justalmonds.com/articles.asp?ID=57 . I thought this meant all products were shipped free but I guess I was wrong.

Without the free shipping however (if the shipping costs $60), I still beat the maximum price (albeit barely):

150 lbs * $3.79 = 568.5
Shipping           = 60
Total               = 628.5

So price per lbs would be $4.19/lbs including shipping. So maybe change my entry to that?

I can investigate further later.
Alright, I'll contact them, too, to make sure there is no free shipping on $99+ orders. They say the product needs some specific icon near it to get the free shipping, but that icon doesn't seem to be on any of their products, so Idunno. Maybe it was something they discontinued and never bothered updating.

It's still a reasonable deal. I was paying ~$5/lb before. Thanks!  Smiley
4315  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: [BDK] We're back! Offering free escrow services and issuing CDs @ ~5% MPR! on: March 30, 2012, 07:32:20 AM
IF I'M UNRESPONSIVE BETWEEN 3/29 AND 4/2 (possibly beyond), HERE'S WHY:
I've been planning on attending a funeral on Saturday for a distant cousin. It's a fair bit away, so I'll be out all day.
Yesterday, another cousin's (much closer) husband was diagnosed with lymphoma, tumor near the heart. We're babysitting their kids (+ our own) tomorrow, likely a while into the future as things are figured out. If you absolutely need a response from me within ~8 hours, I can be contacted via phone @ *snip*. Otherwise, I should be able to answer all emails/PMs within 24h. If something's become lost in the chaos here, please resend your PM every 24-48h. Eventually, I'll get it.  Wink Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
Just thought I'd make this more visible since I'm still getting a steady stream of PMs. There's something up with my Dad, too. I'm not sure what, but he never calls (ETA: And that tid-bit of info is relevant because he did call, three times yesterday while I was sleeping - no message). I'm going to be out-of-town between 4/9 and 4/11, too, for something unrelated to all this. I don't carry anything which connects to the Internet while I'm away from home. I'll update as I know and try to give time-frames on when I'll be slower to respond than usual. Please don't quote my phone #, and please don't call between 5pm-8am US Eastern (and PLEASE don't call me for the sake of conversation).

Thanks.  Smiley

Ingredient: Almonds, whole + broken
$2.74/lb free shipping on orders >$99
Minimum Lbs. Purchased for Price: 50
Grown within 100 miles of 49283 (Yes/No): No, ships from the Central Valley of California
Producing/Distributing Organization: Just Almonds Inc.
Link to quoted price & product: [Company] [Product]
Hmmm I didn't realize "Whole & Broken" was its own grading category with "up to .2% foreign material in any order including but not limited to shell pieces, rocks, or twig material."

If you can find the free shipping code (I don't see it mentioned on their site, and shipping costs $60 using their estimator at checkout), these @ $3.79 a very fair price: http://www.justalmonds.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=Nonpareil_Supreme_23-25
4317  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Home-made granola on: March 29, 2012, 06:03:03 AM
Why does it take a while? And I'll be waiting when it's available but in the meantime, I'll be eating this

The first two batches were tests. I still lack licensing, and am working on securing the most optimal ingredients & packaging (see sig). On top of that, I don't want to send out something I'm not sure of. I don't want a variation of the recipe going out if not satisfied by it. I stand by our coin-back guarantee and have no interest in encouraging refunds to be sought with poor granola.

Could I get chocolate granola?
In 4-10 weeks, yes, that's intended to be an option.  Smiley
