Yeah, the lock basically puts a password on it. Which is essential.
Thank you, I thought it was like locking it so you can't send from the address. So if it is locked I still can spend mt bitcoin or do I need to unlock it then and after spending lock it again?

You dont need to lock it no, it will automatically do that. You will however need a new backup after setting a password for the first time. Bitcoin core comes with 100 pregenerated keys. Only those shown to you in the GUI will be part of the encrypted wallet, all others will be removed. This is to make sure there are as little unprotected private keys on your disk as possible. Due to the 100 keys you will also have to make regular backups, depending on the amount of address/priv. key pairs you need.
4302  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: my coins are showing on block chain but not in my wallet . on: December 05, 2015, 06:12:21 PM
I bought the coins on thursday about 20:00 gmt. The site says it needs 4 confirmations before the balance shows in the wallet .It climbed to over 100 confirmations and still hasn't shown.

What wallet do you use? Is it a service or a local programm?
4303  Economy / Services / Re: DoubleBot Signature Campaign [ High Payments ] on: December 05, 2015, 05:23:34 PM
To those participants that have received a negative rating from me.

I will remove the rating if you remove the signature and no payment was claimed.
I will rephrase the rating if you remove the signature but claimed payment.

In case you are not aware. You are promoting a ponzi which will eventually collapse. The rating serves as an additional warning.

How stupid are you. DoubleBot is not a ponzi.

Its not? How does it work?

Sorry me for my rude words, but I just was a little mad. Please read a first message of a doublebot thread, and you will see.
It's nothing more than just a trading bot.

I did, but the TX you link on the blockchain tell a different story.
4304  Economy / Services / Re: Help me find this German scented oil for a 2mBTC reward! on: December 05, 2015, 05:13:16 PM
I know these, but Im not sure if they are still produced, I will take a look in a nearby store.

Full quote below so the pictures are shown.

Thank you so much!!

Sorry, the store use a different supplier called primavera[1]. I will keep my eyes open though. Maybe at a chrismas market.

My wife got this as a Christmas present over 10 years ago. She loves the smell of it but it ran out a few years ago. What you do is put some of the oil on a little Santa ornament so you can smell it when you walk by the Christmas tree. It's from Germany and smells like citrus and cinnamon. If you can find it (and it can ship to Canada**) I'll pay you 0.002BTC (2mBTC). I've been looking for this stuff for years but I don't speak German so it's very difficult!

**Very important requirement!!

The last picture is the little Santa you put the oil on. If you find the two together that works but I don't need another Santa. Ideally I'd like to find a big bottle but I have no idea if such a thing exists! As you can see from the picture showing the bottom of the bottle it was only 10ml.

The first person to either post or PM me the answer will get the reward!

Thanks and good luck!!

I think you will need to wait for the client to fully snyc before you can transfer funds. Its going to take a while.
In ten minutes it has done 25 weeks, so it will take a few hours to fully sync with the network.
Though my coputer needs often a reset, because it can not update and every week it has a scheduled update which i can't cancel Sad
So mayby a wallet that needs to sync not the best for me.

It will get slower the closer you get because the blocks got bigger over time.

Maybe not. There are other local wallets that sync within minutes, multibit (hd), electrum (2), just to name two. Maybe this[1] page can help.

Correct, it greatly depends on your internet connection, disk and CPU speed. You currently have to download and verify ~55 Gigabyte of blockchain data.
4309  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: I can't use adresses from Bitcoin Core on Electrum on: December 05, 2015, 04:14:24 PM
To add to ranochigo's advice: The imported key is not covered by the seed, so you need to make manual backups. Its probably best to import it as suggested and transfer everything to an electrum wallet that is covered by a seed. Unless you still have a full synced bitcoin core (unlikely) in which case its better to just send all coins from core to a new electrum wallet.
4310  Other / Meta / Re: Should people who promote ponzis in their signature be given a negative trust? on: December 05, 2015, 03:53:43 PM

Scams are not moderated, the section was put in place after the ponzis made the rest of the gambling section useless.

Edit:
The rule(s) for a sub section are essentially "have enough threads/posts to make it a dominant topic in an existing section". E.g. blockchain.info might get a seperate section if the support posts are too much for the service discussion section.

No.

Open any thread.

I do however have a problem if ponzis are advertised outside of their section. Many people still new to bitcoin come here, leaving a warning for them is far from a nanny state IMHO. I dont infantilize, I just issue a warning. You and anyone else is free to ignore it and "invest".
I'm not SNavy, though I may share its sentiment, so I'll field this one too.
I'm a little hazy on why you haven't chosen to leave a negative rating to every user advertising his wares on Bitcoin Forum > Economy > Marketplace > Securities.
Do you not feel that these users "are scammers or likely to scam in the future," in light of 99% of offerings in this sub being scams? Noobs may not know this, you know Smiley

Classic argument, but I cant do everything and without this thread I would probably have missed to mark those discussed here. I dont go around paroling for these things, but I will also not look away when I see them.

a warning...a warning...
but if you warn being wrong...your warning remain...
-not your thread-

I will remove the rating if the signature is removed and no payment claimed.
I will change the wording if the signature is no longer worn, but payment was claimed before that.

Im pretty sure mexxer-2 is willing to do something similar. (see post above)

Explain: ✔ 100% Payouts Guaranteed.
Presumably, "✔ 100% Payouts Guaranteed as long as the business is operational."
No different from any other guarantee on bitcointalk Smiley

The difference I see is that txbtc advertises the ponzi to everyone.
And that's wrong? You're gonna leave him negative trust because he advertises his perfectly legit operation? Nana State much?

I have no problem with people knowingly giving away money to the likes of our "legit operator" SNavy.

In that case, we agree. Txbtc actually took an extra step to inform his investors of the perils associated with his reputable firm, by thoughtfully adding "Please invest at your own risk" to his sig.
An extra step, I might add, which Bitcoin Forum > Economy > Marketplace > Gambling > Investor-based games chose not to take Undecided

No?

Warning: You are in the Gambling section. You are likely to eventually lose any money that you gamble/"invest". Additionally, moderators do not remove likely scams. You must use your own brain: caveat emptor. Do not gamble more than you can afford to lose.

Games where the main factor is whether or not new "investors" join the game. Also any Bitcoin-denominated investment product with an APY far above the reasonable market rate.

This is a scam for kids, no grown up person would send them any money ... dont waste your BTC here

@txbtc, I don't see any difference between what you are promoting, and every thread in Bitcoin Forum > Economy > Marketplace > Gambling > Investor-based games.

As far as QS's alts, who cares? QS itself is an alt, created to deal in forum accounts. It has been at it for quite a while, has a show-stable of quality aged, pre-owned, and antique accounts. Which it trots out whenever the need/fancy takes it.
Nothing wrong with that, that's what this forum is all about Smiley

The difference I see is that txbtc advertises the ponzi to everyone.

I also wonder about!

So that message wouldn't show, Assuming I have 0.00507386 in wallet, what the best amount to send minus fee?

Regards
-snip-

Dont know, the best fee for a quick confirmation has nothing to do with the amount of BTC you want to transfer. It depends mainly on the size of the transaction in size. 0.00022484 (fast) - 0.00007031 (slow) btc/kb should be good currently.
4318  Other / Meta / Re: How to find the local forum time? on: December 05, 2015, 01:07:55 PM
Hey guys, alot of sig campaigns say they will pay out on x:xx forum time, but what's can I find this? Surely there's a better way than having to log out and check my last login find :-/ I've been wondering this for a while, TBH.

Top right, below "simple machines forum" unless you changed it to match your timezone.
4319  Other / Meta / Re: hacked account on: December 05, 2015, 11:29:37 AM
Can I get a signed message from 1KB4tsU3e2SdbbPRrDeg6AHsHPYkqDCdDx for that? Any other address tied to aakashsangwan is also fine.

I even prewrite it for you.

Code:
this is aakashsangwan (UID: 496523) from bitcointalk and today is 2015.12.05.
I sell the bitcointalk account equator (UID: 530039) to the person named Premlatha N. on facebook.
The agreed price is 0.038 btc. The price is not tied to the BTC value in other currencies.
The amount has to be paid as soon as possible by earnings via signature campaigns or other means.
I am aware that this can take a long time and will not try to regain access to the account or try to reclaim for any reasons.
Payment is to be done to my bitcoin address: <insert address here>

Keep in mind that the rating will not be removed, but changed to neutral. I think anyone should be able to inform themselfs easily about this.
i can not provide the signed message from that address, but can give you the private key for it, as i have stated the reason for that in the op. Please reply if that is fine to you, i can pm ~sho the bitcoin addy and the private key of that addy

If you have the private key you can sign a message, educate yourself[1]. Its your deal, not mine, you dont let a stranger from the streets sign your contracts for you do you? Its bad enough that you have not done this properly the first time. I will change the rating for equator to neutral so they can start right away. If you want yours removed, sign the message with the payment address.

[1] https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=990345.0
i know how to sign a message, but understand my circumstances that i have the private key by myself, but donot have any android phone or laptop with me, i have old nokia 5233 with me as i am in a hostel.

I can wait.

Hello BitAurum how i can update my bitcoind by command line in centOs without affect the wallet and transactions was made before ?

Which version of Bitcoin Core are you currently using? If its very old you will need to re-download the entire blockchain.

Are you sure? Why is that so?
