4301  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: A question about my bitcoin balance on: April 28, 2020, 10:23:26 PM
Ok thanks, I just want to earn some bitcoins, delete my Wallet, save my keys and then after some years spend them

Write down the seed, keep it somewhere secure and don't forget you left it there or what it's for!

You might want to put it in a drawer or your wallet and have a few additional copies.
4302  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Does anyone know much about bisq? on: April 28, 2020, 09:59:45 PM
Mine does that as sson as it opens but then it starts to stabalise and work I think...

Although I seemed to have 16 instances of Firefox so that could've been the problem (only one window open).

I managed to select the wrong option on bisq so now I have to convert... oops. Be a good experiment still though.

I also decided there wasn't much traction on the £ when I checked it because it was probably very early in the morning, so...
4303  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: A question about my bitcoin balance on: April 28, 2020, 09:42:21 PM
Your private keys control your bitcoin and only your private keys...

When you send funds, they're confirmed publicly on the blockchain. Only the private key is needed to sign funds and it can produce the public key and use that to search the blockchain for your address.

As bitcryptex alludes to, the 12 word phrase represents a master private key that can be imported into a wallet (in simple terms but other operations are done to turn it into a master private).

I'm running an old version, just about to update but: is your machine normally pretty fast or is it somewhere in between? Mines normally pretty slow and I couldn't spot the difference. I have 4gb ram and a dual core 2.3ghz running win7...
4305  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Can i sell Bitcoin to illegal immigrant in usa on: April 28, 2020, 07:37:24 PM
Do you have to get people's ID? If not I'd say it's more the role of their banks... If its a US bank account then it's probably not even your problem...

Just look into laws on selling things for other people, most anti money laundering picies say that $1000-5000 in cash cna be traded without the need to check ID. To be honest, if its amounts like $20 you're very unlikely to be proved by anyone...

And yet, we're living the best times in human history
both when it comes to poverty

or life expectancy

We were at least? The data on life expectancy may be looking to go up but not for people poor since 2008, or for people who were fairly wealthy.... There are probably links between poor people and impure drug use or bad testing for drugs (or maybe the rich just take different types), anyway poor people are more likely to be more obese and have other issues so we may well see a dip in life expectancy - just speculation for now and mostly based on Europe.

Extreme poverty in Africa is going down, however for Europe and the americas, there are more people below the poverty line than there were in 2008. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poverty_in_the_United_States

European averages are around 17% also so both are doing awfully on that front.
4307  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: New trader looking to profit from the crypto market on: April 28, 2020, 06:09:02 PM
I have an account with etoro and I'm not sure I like the idea of copy trading...

If a lot of people copy someone it gives all of you less of a chance of making anything, you also have to pay them and take their losses as well as profit...

Premium investors who manage hedge funds make about  an average 20% annually (afaik) with a massive team. Some minor traders may do better since they don't have policies to follow to minimise risk but that might also be a negative...

4308  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Does anyone know much about bisq? on: April 28, 2020, 05:59:13 PM
Thanks for all the replies - I didn't expect it to be mainstream already!

The security deposit always throws me off... I have been following the development for a long time, i've compiled bisq on my server and i open it up every time i want to do an exchange. But then i remember the security deposit and i use binance or some on-the-fly exchange instead.
I have to admit that the security deposit was a turn-off recently for me too .. On the positive side though, I have verified a few of my old Bisq seeds and found ~$50 sitting there from my security deposits, feels good! Cheesy But if you want to launch 5 txs and have to pay security deposits for each of them, it's going to cost you quite a lot and that's annoying..
Do I have to stay online for the whole thing and leave my node running? Another user above said it can take 15 hours for a tx to confirm, that seems like a very long time...

Both bitcoin and banking transactions are fast here but maybe it's worth testing with bitcoin to litecoin or something just to check I understand everything...

Some advice :
1. If you have Bitcoin full node client (e.g. Bitcoin Core) installed, make sure it's installed and running when you use Bisq. Bisq will connect to your full node rather than other full node.
If you have serious privacy concern, make sure your Bitcoin Core use Tor connection as well.

My privacy concerns hinge more on the other party getting my IP information and not on the main network operators gaining access to any PII. Tor's pretty slow these days and I don't like the idea of passing 250GB of data through a network I don't contribute to.

This is compounded if are trading to or from fiat. Depending on which fiat payment method you are using, you may end up waiting a couple of days for your chosen method to process/clear/confirm/etc., especially over a weekend. To begin with this made me a bit uneasy, but if you stick to trading with trusted parties you should be fine. Much like if you trade a lot on the forum, over time you will build up a history with a couple of individuals and you will be more comfortable doing larger and larger trades with them.

So trading a low volume fiat currency could be more risky or not?
I could still use it to conver to something like dash or xmr before putting it into a standard exchange. I'm after a bit of a proof of concept here at minimum, if I lose something then it will be a smallish amount I'm testing with (at first anyway).

The security deposit always throws me off... I have been following the development for a long time, i've compiled bisq on my server and i open it up every time i want to do an exchange.

I'm guessing this is just some sort of contract that is enforced much like the lightning network's one (where you both sign the other's output and send it to them and only sign your own when ready).
4309  Economy / Economics / The true value of money, is it always just a number? on: April 28, 2020, 05:29:25 PM
So a lot of the time you see millionaires and billionairs on shows trying to guess the cost of stuff and going majorly out with their guesses (either two high or too low or it's just an arbitrary guess). But from what I've noticed, most people don't keep track of how much money they have, how much they're spending and how much they need...

Personally, this is something I don't look at often (I could tell you the price of a lot of things in a supermarket but I don't go as far as to plot my outgoings and ingoings and try to follow a 3:2:1 methadology or similar (also known as a 50:30:20)) - I'm quite a minimalist financially though to a comfortable extent.

Is the idea behind money that same as most things, you don't realise it's there until it isn't... Even if you're on a wage, you can't say you check all of your accounts on a daily basis and convert them to fiat (unless you waste a lot of time doing that).

4310  Economy / Economics / Re: We will never return to capitalism as we know it on: April 27, 2020, 10:29:20 PM
I don't think the US was every a free market capitalist country... It's probably hard to swallow for a lot of people from the US but the government often interferes with monetary policy and other areas it wouldn't if it were fully free market capitalist such as regulations from the fda.

Every country in history has either had a socialist system or an imperialisation with one monarchy in the total power...

The socialist policies you're gaining now are more a natural development, it's probably a standard flow into how Europe and other old areas are around now...
4311  Economy / Economics / Re: Best Free Site for Global Market Data/Charts? Beginner friendly & Ease of Use? on: April 27, 2020, 06:43:03 PM
Trading view just lists anything traded on the British, American and other stock exchanges. It'll have a real estate etf for London at least if not the rest of the country...

Vanguard have a global real estate fund and that looks to have crashed quite a bit already, I'd personally hold off investments in real estate in the west for about 18 months as they have far to fall and I imagine they will...
4312  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why there is no Standard Marketplace like Amazon with BTC as payment method?? on: April 27, 2020, 04:43:00 PM

Yes...returns are a big issue.
as "un returnable" & secure is the whole point of crypto!!! -- for this scenario this backfires Sad

A lot of banks act as a mediator for disputes, if you take them out companies lose a bit of power they once had to not be immediately taken to court for failure to comply... Court action is a headache for everyone involved and leaves at least one party out of pocket... Not to mention, as a company, if you're taken to court you get a permenant charge against your name...

Steam also claim to have removed an option to pay with cryptocurrency due to its volatility.
4313  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum on: April 27, 2020, 03:55:16 PM
What do you mean by restrictions? If you mean by amount of funds then no. If you have a large amount of funds though you might want to look at increasing security in other ways such as using a hardware wallet or airgapping.
4314  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why there is no Standard Marketplace like Amazon with BTC as payment method?? on: April 27, 2020, 03:33:07 PM
I don't think there's too much of an issue, I think it's just that sites want to be abl eto trust their payment source and cryptocurrency is pretty new - they like what ha salways worked for them...

I've bought things with bitcoin from places like scan.co.uk and they've been pretty good with everything. There's the additional problem with bitcoin in that returns aren't as easy to handle (imo) and transaction fees might have to be returned too a sther'es no RTS (return to sender) script in eveyr transaction that can be signed and returned to the previous owner for free too...
4315  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: When to buy - question to Hodlers on: April 27, 2020, 03:27:27 PM
Yeah I have been doing DCA for about 2 years now (first starting with lower amounts, increased this year) and its been ok. I sometimes see price spikes but I should be pretty much averaged out.
Buying on Price Drops, I have been thinking about it but you never know when the bottom hits Smiley

Do you use recurring payments? You could set it up with somewhere like coinbase where they'll take a certain amount every month and convert it into bitcoin or a cryptocurrency (not sure if they charge additional fees for that).

If you DCA once a month, I'd suggest going for the weekend because the price seems to be a little lower saturday evening (but I haven't actually plotted a pattern it just looks that way to me) on bst time - from filing tax returns.

If you buy the dips, I'd take an additional sum of either anything you randomely accrue or 10% of your dca position just to buy when the market slumps a bit.

I bought at $6k before we went to $3k and now we're at $7k and COULD rise further (we hit $8k before) just don't panic when stuff doens't go your way if you are dcsing and happy/confident with your investment...
4316  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Forex question on: April 27, 2020, 03:20:50 PM
This is something no one can answer, a stock could drop by 100% if the company goes bankrupt (/insolvant). Overall, stock markets recently have proven that they can fall by 30%+ in a day so this is something difficult to give an andwer for. I'd instead look into AVERAGES and probably further than a day to potentially a week, a month or for long term trading... a year.
4317  Economy / Exchanges / Does anyone know much about bisq? on: April 27, 2020, 03:17:56 PM
I'm looking for any information or past experience trading on the decentralisted bisq exchange. It was suggested to me a few months ago and I've had it downlaoded but now I want to look more into it and see if I can trade on it.

Are there any security concerns I need to be aware of other than the fact that it seems fairly new (and wehen I downloaded it there was no GBP volume at all)? Is there a practice for remaining anonymous on the exchange and is it possible to withdraw funds directly to a bank account (I'm assuming their fee might go into providing this service) or do you get a stable coin you have to cash out elsewhere?

If possible please link videos as all I'm doing at work at the moment is reading huge reems of text...
4318  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Skype malicous phishing attempts uses Google's .app gTLD on: April 27, 2020, 02:17:17 PM
@mk4, we don't have a stickies thread on it yet though either... I think it's been called for in the past but no action has been done to actually make it a thing, if someone has the time though I'd suggest try making a thread like loyce's fees are low one (that they can bump when it hits page 2).

For the actual attack its attacking a different type of people from a standard attack since it's people actively looking for a padlock icon so it's moderately intelligent people on the Internet or the ones that have outdated knowledge on ssl.

Add to this the fact that most countries have sent a text out to everyone's number so it may be easy to get access to text data (since messages aren't normally encrypted and the message wasn't sent as a broadcast - afaik).
4319  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to create a masternode/pos coin? on: April 27, 2020, 02:06:34 PM
Check if they have a github or source code avaliable and supplementary docs/wikis to explain what the code does.

If they don't have docs then you can probably still understand what things do it might just be a bit harder... Dash is the first staked coin I knew of that was staked so you could try looking into their code is pivx isn't open cource.

Decred doesn't have masternodes (I don't think) but it's proof of stake and has been credited for producing good documentation on how things work in both bitcoin and their network.
4320  Economy / Economics / Re: Oh look! Another covid thread..... on: April 25, 2020, 12:11:02 AM
Wuhans had this virus for a good 5 months. I think thereve been coverups all round... While the mainstream thought it was a bad idea for trump to suspend who funding I actually don't think they've done great reporting on this stuff....

Texas is going to reopen because of the activism, like a lot of other states. The governors probably fear the protestor since there's not much of an intelligence test for owning a gun and all the protestor think this is a way for the government to "experiment with taking away their rights" - something I've seen far too much of recently...

The US are going to face massive issues from this, the rest of Europe haven't done too badly with their lockdown, 19000 dead in the UK is surprisingly optimistic since aroun 10000 people die every week anyway (the 19000 are additions but it's over around 5 or 6 weeks afaik) - I found the stats from the ons I think they'll be available as a xls format.

The idea of them coming from the lab to me doesn't seem completely unreasonable. We're talking about a genetic strain from a snake interfering with a mammal (I have no idea what it's name was - some non flying bat thing) or a bat which seems quite unrealistic for it to only enter the population then...

I think someone should've clarified trumps sentiment yesterday too with the "disinfectant" (blood plasma) and UV (synthesising uva or Uvb - I'm not sure which). Blood plasma usage and uv usage would be productive but they'll require a lot of research. Artificial UV causes problems with ionisation and damage since it'll be polarised from a light source (my current theory). The use of UV from the sun allows for a production of vitamin D type which allows for calcium to be broken down and strengthen bone and marrow production (and marrow produces stem cells which turn to antibodies).

(disclaimer: no m.d. and not even a biologist, just a physical scientist equipt with random knowledge of varying level).
