4321  Economy / Reputation / Re: ''Betnomi and yahoo62278'', something fishy is goin on... on: November 10, 2020, 03:54:47 PM
Funny that OP register in bitcointalk just few days ago, and he is expecting some royal status from start when he is advertising his crap.
Sounds like an alt account created to besmirch Yahoo62278's good name if you ask me.

I don't know a damn thing about Betnomi, but from reading this thread I haven't learned anything that would lead me to believe Yahoo62278 is out of line with his relationship with them--whatever that relationship is.  Looks to me like OP's post got reported for different reasons, those that have zilch to do with Yahoo.

If you have any problems with Betnomi, create the necessary scam accusation against the project and provide all the necessary evidence needed.
OP, take heed of the above, because that's how it's done on bitcointalk (and I suspect you already know this).
4322  Economy / Economics / Re: Effective Covid-19 vaccine found on: November 09, 2020, 08:00:51 PM
Go Pfizer!  That there is one of the companies I've liked for some time, and I figured they'd have a hand in the vaccine creation somehow.  Hopefully what the news is reporting is accurate, though.  It's the media I'm not a fan of.

Even if the vaccine isn't immediately available, news like this ought to calm a lot of jangled nerves worldwide--and I'm hoping that the vaccine is effective and that people aren't reluctant to get it.  There are a lot of anti-vaccers out there, but I'd say this is an important one for people to get.

Will Pfizer accept bitcoin only payments on this vaccine?
Lol.  No, but I bet this news is the reason for the stock market rise today and probably for the past week or so--bitcoin as well.  Good news doesn't tend to get kept a secret among the few who know about it at first, and I bet ya there was a lot of pre-vaccine speculation happening before the announcement.
4323  Economy / Reputation / Re: Using the trust system for personal Vendetta on: November 09, 2020, 02:49:35 AM
Nah... forum-leaving dramas are fashionable these days.
I don't mind the forum-leaving drama if the member actually leaves the forum for good.  It's when you get turds like cryptohunter saying oh, fare-thee-well you crotchety cocksuckers and then return with one of more alt accounts within a month, that's what grinds my dingus.

So if WhiteManWhite is gone, that's cool...just as long as he's gone.

Plagiarising user red trusting others for alleged plagiarism is also a movie we've seen before I think.
Oh yeah, I think the tape has been on loop for the last few years or so.  It's funny sometimes how plagiarists call attention to their own misdoings by making a stink about some other member's plagiaristic tendencies because of some personal grudge.  That's a comedy I don't mind seeing a few times.
4324  Economy / Economics / Re: The Difference Between Staking and Investing on: November 08, 2020, 11:03:49 PM
both are profitable but it depends on your capital. Staking just provide small yearly interest like in a traditional banks
Profit doesn't depend on capital.
Eh, I don't know about that.  I think what OP means is that an investment of $50 in some PoS coin is going to earn you fewer total coins than if you'd invested $50,000.  Therefore I think that total profit might indeed depend on how much money you've sunk into a particular coin--if that's your definition of "capital" anyway.

As far as that statement above saying that staking is like having a bank account, I'd disagree with that.  Yes, the "interest" part of it is just like a savings account, but there's also the potential for capital gains, and that's something missing entirely from savings accounts.  To me, it's like buying a stock that pays a dividend vs. one that doesn't.

Also, as far as OP's question goes: Staking is a form of investment.  They're not different things.
4325  Economy / Economics / Re: 1000 BTC moved after 10 years on: November 08, 2020, 10:52:13 PM
That's normal considering how so many exchanges move more than 5-10k BTC daily.
It might be normal for a whale to move that amount of bitcoin, but I think the point here is that it's a bunch of coins that haven't moved in 10 years--and I find that to be very interesting.

I can't imagine holding onto that much bitcoin for that long, especially considering everything that's happened in the past decade.  If those bitcoins belong to one person, that person must have balls of steel and a stomach of iron.  The temptation to sell when bitcoin kept rising all those years must have been incredible, and I'm not sure I would have been able to keep holding.

Too bad we don't know who moved those coins.

What would you do with 1000 BTC today? Smiley
I'd buy a Tesla and a new computer, and I'd probably just go on a general shopping spree on Newegg and some other sites that accept bitcoin.  But honestly?  I'd try to keep hodling on to as much of it as I could, given the upward momentum we're seeing right now.
4326  Other / Meta / Re: Question about merits on: November 08, 2020, 10:25:21 PM
See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3078328.0

This was literally on the first page of Meta.
Lol.  It's easy to miss stuff like that, when it's right under your nose.

The stats page that OP linked to was the only one I used for like the first year of the merit system, when I actually cared about receiving them--and how generous I was being with my sMerits (and that was before I was made a merit source).  Then I kind of stopped caring and looking at those pages.

For the lower-ranked members, however, BPIP is probably the best source of merit info and probably the best source overall for statistics about members.  Despite that, it might not be a bad idea to have some kind of consolidated thread with all the info you could ever want about merits.  Maybe there's someone motivated enough to create such a thing?
4327  Other / Meta / Re: Does anyone want a "I'm in the area lets hangout board" on: November 08, 2020, 07:33:31 PM
I could be interested, but we have a problem with all the Covid rubbish at the moment.
I'd be very interested in something like this except that I don't really want to meet up with total strangers.  Jet Cash, you're someone I'd love to meet but if I were ever planning on going to the UK (which is where I think you live), I'd drop you a PM beforehand to see if you'd want to meet up.

Same thing with OP.  I think I know the area you live in, and if I were planning on traveling into the city I'd contact you beforehand.  So I'm not sure how useful a feature like this would be, or even if it would ever get used.  I could be mistaken, but I don't think there's a hell of a lot of off-forum socializing going on.
4328  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are we headed to a new all time high now that momentum is very high on: November 06, 2020, 09:46:14 PM
If you'd asked me back in March whether bitcoin would have reached even $10k, I would have said absolutely not--and look at where we are in November.  It's absolutely mind-blowing.

And yeah, I do think bitcoin is headed toward a new ATH, but I don't think it's going to happen this year (and I hope it doesn't, actually).  Too much of a rise too quickly can lead to huge crashes, as we've seen time and time again, so if indeed we are to see a new ATH, I hope it comes next year and hopefully at least in the middle of 2021 and not sooner.

One thing I'm not sure about is whether this momentum we're seeing is really a trend or just a pop-up in price that could quickly drop back down.  That's something only time will decide, but it'll be damn interesting to see what happens in the next 6 months or so.
4329  Economy / Reputation / Re: Multi-accounts & cheats In Campaign: Hhampuz. on: November 06, 2020, 08:25:02 PM
Good eyes on this one, OP.

Haven't heard a lot from Hhampuz lately, and I was kind of wondering where he'd gone off to, but it looks like he's still active and managing campaigns.  He's one of the best managers out there at the moment, so I'm sure he'll deal with these knuckleheads in the appropriate manner.

There's never going to be an end of these greedy bounty/campaign cheaters as long as both of those earning opportunities exist.  Good to see you and some others are putting a microscope to the spreadsheets, OP.
4330  Economy / Reputation / Re: Most Recognized Profiles (by BPIP) on: November 06, 2020, 06:57:01 PM
I am sure most members know already about great BPIP website we use every day.
I have to confess that I haven't visited BPIP in quite some time--and I'm surprised that I'm #16 in that list; I don't consider myself worthy of being in even the top 100 given how many other distinguished members we have on this forum.  But I guess a list like that was bound to include active members who've been around for a few years at least, and I do fit into that category.

I've no suggestions as to how to improve the criteria for this list, since I don't generally pay attention to the forum popularity contest(s) that crop up from time to time.

As far as Lauda goes, I think his rank is appropriate given what the list represents.  I'm assuming that as time passes and if Lauda truly has left the forum for good, that rank will continue to drop until very few people even remember him.  Or her--I never could figure that one out, although Theymos referred to Lauda as "he".
4331  Economy / Economics / Re: After elections end this year for all countries, we are all screwed on: November 06, 2020, 01:56:44 AM
Prepare for tax increase, price increase, lockdowns, police brutality and anti democratic measures .
What elections exactly is going to bring all this? And tbh, all the above are present in our world today, so I don't really get your point.
So...you're predicting all of that is going to happen if Biden gets elected, or if Trump gets re-elected?

What lockdowns are you talking about, anyway?  There aren't any in the US as far as I know, and I'm not trapped in my house all day because of some government edict in response to COVID-19.  That might be true in other countries, but I don't think the US election is going to affect any of those.

There's always been police brutality, always will until they're given less power.  But I don't think Trump or Biden are going to have any impact on that.  Why?  Because that issue can be handled at the state level, and the states are already well aware of the problem because of all the protests.

2021 going to be a crazy year for the world .
Yeah it already is, from Covid-19, to Bitcoin crossing 15k Grin
It's not 2021 yet, bro.  I'm hoping the chaos will calm down significantly next year, but I wouldn't bet money on it.  But as far as bitcoin breaking through the $15k mark--hell yeah!!
4332  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Legendary Eventually. on: November 05, 2020, 09:19:25 PM
Congrats, OP.  You registered here shortly after the merit system was rolled out, which was probably the worst possible time if your goal was to rank up, so big props to you for making it all the way to Legendary.  Took quite a while, though, didn't it?  Lol.

At least you didn't have to wait until the last possible activity period to reach the final rank (I made Legendary on the second-to-last activity period, 1020 or whatever it was).  Either way, you did it and those lower-ranked members trying to figure out what the secret to ranking up is should browse through your post history and see how it's done.

I am on the way too but cant assume its gonna be close yet.
Yeah, but you might get lucky.  You've got the requisite number of merits and activity, so now it's just up to whatever algorithm Theymos uses as a "lottery".  Good luck, hope you don't have to wait too much longer.
4333  Economy / Economics / Re: Iran accepting cryptocurrencies to avoid US Dollar on: November 05, 2020, 08:55:32 PM
The USA has been the largest bully of them all in contemporary times although in a much subtle way compared to China.
I'm an American, and I wouldn't dispute the above statement--and the US has been a global bully for many years unfortunately.  It's sad that our government takes all the actions it does, from military intimidation to trade sanctions, but there's very little the average citizen can do to stop them from doing all of that--just like trying to eliminate the death penalty.  Change takes place at a snail's pace.

As far as Iran's plight goes, things may change if Biden wins the election (which looks pretty likely at the moment).  I get the sense that he'll try to undo a lot of what Trump did during his shameful four years as president, so hopefully the US's relations with countries like Iran, China, and others will improve.  I have my fingers crossed that this is the case.
4334  Economy / Economics / Re: Đây là lư do tại sao bitcoin HAS để đi lên on: November 05, 2020, 08:46:46 PM
Too much money is printed while economic activities are stalled by disease and they have to be diverted to reserve channels. Bitcoin, stocks and gold have all risen together this year.
Yeah, and interest rates near zero and a lot of other factors.

Funny how the US election affected the stock market and bitcoin yesterday (and today somewhat).  I'm not sure exactly why investments are booming even more than they have been, but traders are obviously expecting an economic recovery happening faster than expected.  I do hope that happens, but we'll see.

And man....go, bitcoin, go!  Nice to see it headed toward its ATH, and I seriously didn't think it would get anywhere close to it this year.  Bitcoin surprises me once again.
4335  Other / Meta / Re: Report plagiarism (copy/paste) here. Mods: please give temp or permban as needed on: November 05, 2020, 01:35:23 AM
A quick look at WhiteManWhite's trust page reveals that he's starting to use the trust system to vent spleen against members he disagrees with, and therefore I have excluded him from my trust list.

The forum is telling you, WMW, that using images without attribution isn't an issue, mainly because when someone posts some random picture from the internet, he's not claiming he owns or created that picture.  We'd never have any memes if everyone had to get permission to repost a pic.  But with plagiarism of the written word, that's exactly what's happening; the plagiarist is implicitly telling the reader he wrote those plagiarized words himself when he fails to cite them properly.

You can accept that or not, but the feedback you left isn't warranted.
4336  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Do not trade Alts with BTC these days, You will just lose on: November 04, 2020, 09:54:17 PM
Ever hear of "buy low, sell high"?  What does that suggest about the altcoin market at the moment?  Seems to me that buying bitcoin as it's hitting its high for the year while neglecting altcoins which are getting pounded is a silly move.

You don't make money by buying things when they're at their high.  That's a sucker move, but it always happens in bull markets, whether it's crypto, stocks, whatever.

I'm not really that into altcoins, though there are some good ones--but I'd say now would be a pretty smart time to be buying those good ones, i.e., while their price is relatively low.
4337  Other / Archival / Re: Hong Kong bans retail trading of digital currencies on: November 04, 2020, 02:32:24 AM
I believe that most exchanges will choose to move out of this region and place their headquarter in places where laws are less strict.
Yeah, I hear the regulatory bodies in Antarctica and on the International Space Station are pretty lax, so perhaps there will come a day where either of those places host the crypto exchanges that don't want to have to bend over and spread 'em for their current government.

Ugh.  This news isn't really surprising, and I don't even know how significant it is.  This has been the trend as far as regulating crypto goes for some time now.  That statement by the Hong Kong government was typical bureaucratic doublespeak, and those always make my skin crawl no matter who it is that's making it.
4338  Other / Meta / Re: Log in, registering, and understanding this forum process on: November 04, 2020, 01:34:47 AM
1. This forum is not affiliated with Electrum and it's neither Electrum support. If people help you, they do it because they want to and those people are just Electrum users.
After spending about 45 seconds laughing my ass off at OP's post, I started scrolling through posts that might help me understand the connection between bitcointalk and Electrum.  Me thinks there be none.

OP sounds like he's able to write English pretty well and doesn't come off as some slobbering retard newbie (which is the norm here), so I'm a bit puzzled as to why he's having so many problems with this site.  Yeah, it's a little outdated--but not effin' 1990s outdated, like a Geocities website.  Registering and logging in never caused me any stress, increased blood pressure, anger, or loss of hair.  Sorry to hear OP's struggling.

Stick with it, bro.  It's like a big nitrous oxide balloon here from time to time, with a spigot for everyone.
4339  Economy / Reputation / Re: Complain about negative feedback on: November 04, 2020, 01:25:04 AM
I just checked myself this user's profile and there is -1 on his profile trust. I have never ever modified my trust list and if he isn't DT member, then why is that feedback visible? Hm... Idk what's wrong here...
Don't know either, but OP's feedback is showing up as neutral for me--but I've got a pretty customized trust list, so that's not unexpected.

It would be nice if these two parties could work things out and just bury the hatchet.  OP has proven he's not a bot, and I'm not sure about the veracity of the rest of the feedback.  Honestly I think SPQRCoin ought to just remove it, or at least change it to a neutral.
4340  Economy / Reputation / Re: Using the trust system for personal Vendetta on: November 04, 2020, 12:40:54 AM
This looks like an issue of negative feedback being left for posting an image from the internet and considering that plagiarism.  I don't agree with that, and it isn't even necessary to leave a neg for an outright plagiarist of the written word (though I don't consider it a major transgression if one is left).

What is this rude response by WhiteManWhite?  I can't read Russian.

I also don't see why WMW took offense to that "victim" statement by OP.  It didn't look to be negatively aimed at WMW from my point of view.

You have more examples of plagiarism in your post history than just the ones pointed out by WhiteManWhite. Indirect references through your blog may not be enough. If a moderator can't see the reference in your post - you'll get into trouble sooner or later.
That's concerning.
Indeed, and I'd like to hear from icopress about that.

Is WhiteManWhite on DT or what?  I don't even know how to tell anymore without searching Meta for Theymos's monthly update thread, and even then I don't know who's on DT2.
