43241  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Selling BTC at Ebay on: April 26, 2014, 03:32:17 AM
I am a 10 year plus ebay seller.  with more then 1400 positive feedbacks no negative.

http://www.ebay.com/usr/philipma1957

http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=philipma1957&ftab=AllFeedback&myworld=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2050430.m2531.l4585

I tried to sell .5 btc last year.   I said no new buyer I will cancel the sale.  A zero feedback buyer with a 2 day account purchased the coin.

I canceled the sale and refunded his money in less then 35-40 minutes flat.

He gave me a negative feedback and said " it was a waste of time and money."    It took me  more then 2 weeks to have the only negative feedback I ever got  removed.

Even though I have more then 500, 000 usd in sales lifetime   which means lots of fees for them.

They said I have to sell to a first time buyer if he pays which he did.  I said all feedback that is a lie must be removed. (Their rules not mine).

My defense was how did he waste time and money.  He lost control of his money for under 1 hour hardly a waste of time.

And he got a full refund  which truly meant he should not be allowed to say his money was wasted.

I never sell anything digital anymore.  They did take the negative away but I kind of lost my taste for ebay  rules favor buyers more and more.

Although chargebacks  don't cost if you do all the rules on physical goods.  If the goods are digital you mostly will always lose a chargeback.

New rates are incredibly high, can it get any better?Cheesy
Yes it could stay at this level for the next 3 months.  That would be 3 times better.
43243  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Lee group host miner]2650$! 1T bitcoin miner start to work for you on 27 Apr on: April 26, 2014, 03:14:36 AM
My 5 hosted machines were also down for a few hours for this maintenance, but did receive an email in advance about it.
sorry for that maintenance issue, the data center inform me one day ahead, but i forgot to inform your guys in advance, i will keep this as a lesson and will inform you next time.

since most of the miner down for 6 hours, i can compensate a little, each miner will receive 5$ discount on the host fee of this month

That is close enough for me.   Thank you.
43244  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [Open - 7days] Pre Productoin - NanoFury NF6 `11 Gh/s USB Miners on: April 26, 2014, 12:19:32 AM
Honestly, right now even the big machines are looking like they'll be a big gamble.  Sad
Yeah, which just make the StickMiners more attractive, to me - at least you know it won't ROI and you don't have to sit there eyeing rates and charts every day Smiley

Though it's true what philipma1957 said - had the NF6 been available back in February, it actually should have yielded a net profit - ah, memories of Block Erupters and people building rigs with dozens of them Smiley

I took a beating on all my fury sticks.  the antminer u1 crushed them with price.

even though the fury sticks are better for the most part they are 2x the price of the ant sticks.   even these are far too costly due to the delivery time.

But i wish I had some.  right now I kind of stopped selling any sticks to anyone..

I have about 12 fury sticks and fury II sticks.  2 ant u-2s an 1 red fury.  I 'll dump them on ebay next week.

shame of these sticks were they always came too slow to even be able to sell on ebay.

I am on the list.  50 days from today is june ?

5 days in april 31 in may = 36 plus 14 in june = 50 days.

June 14th is Flag day.
June 14th is my brother's first but not last wedding date.
June 14th is my maternal grandmother day of death.

So I like the flag.

I liked my brothers first wife.

My Grandmother died a good gentle dignified death at the age of 87.  Based on the above 3 facts  for June 14th I put my name on your email list.

I also like that you are only in PA and I am in NJ. So I will look back here every once in a while.

In the mean time if you are bored with waiting try something new.
43246  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Antminer S1 Sales open] Price changes daily, now 0.619 BTC for 180GH/s on: April 26, 2014, 12:00:22 AM

I'm a math guy, so lets look at some numbers.

At the current difficult and BTC price, a S1 earns $186 dollars per month and uses $35 dollars in electricity at 12 cents per kilowatt hour. Barring a BTC price collapse, which would slow down difficulty growth, your assertion that a S1 will not be profitable in 2 months is absurd. The S1 will be unprofitable towards the end of 2013 (Q4) unless BTC price increases.

You think that an S1 will make $186 for May month?

I bet will not even make $130 for May. Deduct the $35 for electricity.

I am sorry but S1 is dead already.

Holy shit, I better turn off all my S1s because they are only making 4 times the cost of electricity and you also have a crystal ball into future difficulty increases and bitcoin price.

Thanks for the very insightful post.  Roll Eyes

Also, since difficulty is doubling on average every 6 weeks, those shiny new 1TH miners that use 1W/GH will also be obsolete around 6 weeks after the S1.

You have mentioned the elephant in the room bro.

antminer s-1's can clock to 1.5 watts. hash  antminer s-2's can clock to .9 watts a hash and spoondoodles can clock to .7 watts

these power improvements don't come close to keeping up with   the current difficulty numbers ..

what is needed is a large fiat btc jump.  remember the   sept  3 to nov 28 fiat jump  about 100 to 1100 usd a coin.

Since the only way the game will continue is a good solid fiat jump.  I may as well speculate  with s-1s.

remember   a cube was 38gh at 400 watts   that is more then 10 watts a hash .  the s-1 was a 5x improvement in power.

the s-2 the sp10 the dragons etc are at best 2x an underclocked s-1 if that.  so none of them will save the day,

but   an 11x btc fiat jump to  5000 will wake us all up.

even a 3x jump to 1350 usd makes the game look good again.

with the case being I need  a 3x fiat jump to mine I will buy s-1's  rather then any expensive gear .

So buy some now I bought them yesterday at .63

Well I have tried windows 7 on multiple pc's  and with multiple pools with various psu's.

  My asrock z77 itx-e motherboard:

runs 30  five chip units under at  300 watts nonstop for days on end.  clocked to 850 freq.  I get about 10200khs or 340khs a unit.

A lot of stops are your pools getting hosed by ddos attacked.  I use wemineltc.com and cex.io to mine I only mine ltc for the sale of keeping things simple.

I never use anything but the custom cpuminer set at freq 850 for scrypt only.

 I use less power for 10,200 khs then 1 r 290x does for 800khs

biggest problem is wire management.   not stability…. but 4 other mobos  running windows 7 or windows 8   suck compared to the asrock.

Yes that is correct, the current sig your on is better for people that don't post often, but if your an active user, PD and RGC are good campaigns, with ritz paying more, but Stunna having more trust. Yes your math is correct, I'd like to see you try 100 posts a day however!  Roll Eyes

I am retired and if paid well  I could make 100 clean posts a day.  with a sugar load of info to help mining and miners with setups.

@philipma1957 Do u know how to set up a mining pool ?

Wrooong thread you have now!

Not really ...if he says yes, I would request him to join me in another thread.

wish I did but my skill set is more accounting/taxes/ gear tinkering/ mods.

I contacted the gawminer campaign runner( Evil Panda)  and asked out.  If he is cool I am going to do this signature campaign.

well then don't use your mined coins to buy new hardware with ?? use fiat to buy new coins and use those coins as a vehicle to pay for ur new hardware. problem solved.

Nope, doesn't work that way.  If you buy BTC with fiat and you end up mining less BTC than the BTC you spent on the hardware, regardless of what fiat you paid, you've netted a loss.  The conversion from fiat to BTC doesn't matter, because you paid in BTC.  Let's do some math (complicated tax issues out of the picture).

We're going to simplify the numbers, so it's easy to digest:

Scenario A: You purchase 1BTC for the exchange price of $100USD, then immediately purchase a miner that costs 1BTC.  It's super-fast!  During the lifetime of the device (which we'll say is the time that it makes more in BTC than it costs to feed it electricity) it produces 0.93BTC before you're mining at a loss.  When you go to the exchange, BTC has doubled in price to $200USD.  You exchange your 0.93BTC for $186USD.  This appears to be making a profit, until you get to...

Scenario B: You purchase 1BTC for the exchange price of $100USD, then hodl it.  When you go to the exchange (at the same time as you would in the first scenario) BTC has doubled in price to $200USD.  You exchange your 1BTC for $200USD.  You did no mining, and doubled your money.

In the first scenario, you lost BTC, period.  Regardless of what the fiat rate is, you will always get less exchanged fiat if your miner cost more than it made versus just holding the BTC.  There's no getting around that, you lost BTC.  Profitability in mining should always be calculated in BTC if you paid for the gear in BTC.

Now, the inverse is true if you paid in fiat, and I know that sounds crazy!  If you buy a $100 dollar miner in fiat, and it generates BTC that you later sell for more than $100 dollars, you've made a profit.  It works this way because the "value" of the dollar is (mostly) fixed, where as the value of BTC is not.  If you pay in BTC, you need to make your profit estimates on BTC.  If you paid in fiat, you should be using fiat to base your profit estimates.

That said, I enjoy mining and I've been lucky enough to turn a profit (in BTC!) on my mining endeavors so far--this isn't me shooting down mining by any means, I just know the math is confusing and want to lend a hand.  I myself had to sit in a recliner and sip scotch while I worked it out! Everyone should give it a go, as it's an excellent mental exercise.

That is exactly RIGHT...!

If you pay for miner(s) in BTC...count your return in BTC...
If you pay for your miner(s) in FIAT...count your return in FIAT...

Don't get confused by speculation in exchnge's rates...

This math is still faulty, because you're forgetting that you can still sell your machine on ebay for $50 to $75, at which point you will make more money than the straight exchange of BTC mined.  Always remember, just because it's not profitable to mine, doesn't mean someone won't buy it from you who doesn't know that on ebay.

And he wants to leave out taxation law to make it true.

As a USA citizen mining is like self employment i.e. a small business schedule c
Buy and hold is passive investment income i.e. schedule d

these are hugely different .
Mining can increase your social security retirement check. >>  you pay self-employment tax on any net profit over 400 usd and that makes your social security check bigger when you retire.

Buy and hold does not. >>>>>>> If I go to coin base today and buy 2 coins at 450 usd each I need do nothing until I sell them. i.e. I can hold them 4 years then sell and report the gain.

a in house  mining profit has to be taxed  way differently then a buy and hold.

So each has a different set of tax rules.  If you are 57 like I am  and you earn 20k a year mining net profit.  (in fiat as the USA government does not give a shit about the coins just the fiat price)

you need to pay about 15% in self employment tax (think of it a social security tax)  at 65-68 you retire and go to collect social security tax.  that money paid in for the mining profit will make your social security check much larger.

Sorry you need to figure this in  whenever you discuss mining vs buy and hold.    So if you are USA and over 55 mining at a fiat profit has a real possibility of boosting your social security check.

If you are under 55 it will take longer to collect  and mining is a bit less attractive then buy and hold.  I blend all methods.  If I were 30. I would open a coin base account  and buy 100usd a week in coin.  Never cash for 5 years in a row.  Then after 5 years I would decide what to do.

but this is really threadjacking.

I am debating if I want another 1 or 2 s-1's
