I'm not sure why people keep posting new threads to make fun with The DAO, Ethereum and Vitalik Buterin. We saw videos, memes and everything, but the truth is that personally this failure makes me angry.
You are right it is not funny. But people are responding with memes and jokes simply because the Ether hype got so extreme (for example I got spammed with dozens of personal messages on reddit, promoting ether, as did everyone who ever posted on the r/bitcoin subreddit). It's the extreme promotion that has made people respond with jokes. What is not funny is how Butalik made this worse at every stage since inception until now with his promotion of a vote, which ruined the chance of a 30% haircut and saving Ethereum from destruction. And yet spartak_t blames us instead of blaming the true culprit. We are laughing at how stoopid these guys are. They can't even point their finger in the correct direction. FFS. Firstly why dilute any argument you try to bring to the table with petty immature name changing? Like or loath him his name is Vitalik so what issue do you have with referring to him as such? Secondly, crypto is still an embryonic market? Exactly how you expect Vitalik to adequately respond in a crisis situation is beyond me. Either way, they are fucked now because Vitalik pushed for a vote on a fork (destroying the Nash equilibrium), which is forcing the "attacker" to drain the rest of the DAO into miner's pockets. Back at only $750, 2.5 years later. My point is these attacks destroy the trust in crypto so investment drys up and slows. If it's all about the code then instead of attacking crypto for own personal gain, work with it for the betterment of all? See a flaw then highlight it, join the community to create not destroy. |

These same shills (who probably work for people like Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan) were also spamming "Ethereum is the new Bitcoin" at the same time. The banker shills took this one right up the ass. No it does not. Eth/DAO failing because of programming errors, Bitcoin failing because of future power cuts to chinese mining farms do not affect the crypto movement in the long run. Eth and Bitcoin flaws have been and will be fixed in other crypto and the show goes on. You won't get as many investors if it's seen as a risky investment. Crypto needs slow steady increases not boom and bust. |

No there is a mass market for it right now, but those guys have the design entirely wrong conceptually. They are off in the entirely wrong direction conceptually. And that includes Devest and any one else copying The DAO's conceptual design. And I am not going to tell you how to do correctly until I have some code ready to launch. No sorry I don't think the mass market is there right now. Just look at how many, supposed crypto currency supporters just hate on the DAO and are happy to see it fail just because they can't comprehend it. This is internet 1993. "Why do we need this?" It needs to be sold to the doubters before mass market appears. I.e. There were only circa 20,000+ DAO investors in total. And I knew 3 of them. |

Ethereum has had a MtGox level event and will either die or be perma bear market for months/years. They've shown it's completely useless to have a low level scripting language for contracts.
Fault wasn't with Ethereum code you r0achtard. As you well know. It's a fault in both the way the DAO was written and the design of Ethereum language used for scripting. This is on top of the fact that Ethereum was just an IPO scam in the first place designed to enrich the coin issuer, and it's impossible to actually make a decentralized network using a recursive, closed entropy system. Ethereum is a scam plain and simple. It is not a "decentralized" anything. It's a flat out centralized scam. Incorrect. The fault was DAO code. If it was ETH then where are the repeated spam attacks on the etherchain? Nowhere as you well know. Quit fudding. It's pathetic. |

I'm with you and thanks for putting it more eloquently than I ever could. I invested in DAO and agree that it should cut its loses for now. I still believe in a DAO and all that it will stand for, basically giving the little man the opportunity to invest whee only VC funds could in the past. Why others are so virulently against this right is beyond me. One day I expect after all this is blown over there will be a DAO2.0. Just with better coders.
Also, I don't know if better coding is the answer ultimately. Things need to progress on the basis that smart contract code will fail, not that it won't. There are a huge amount of use cases where the value doesn't actually have to be held by the contract. toknormal, very astute. That is indeed part of the solution. Minecache, the problem with The DAO is not only bad code, but also the design was game theory broken as well. I agree and it needs to be fixed/amended for a DAO2.0. It's likely the DAO is currently too ahead of its time but I believe it will come. We only learn from our mistakes and successes. It doesn't mean that running the race was wrong. All technological advances suffer this from inception. It was naive to think otherwise. |
