4341  Economy / Reputation / Re: Someone from Bengali local has created an account with same of my username on: March 07, 2022, 11:23:13 AM
It's not necessary to have a DT(1) member tag him anymore (of course, unless someone really wants to do that). NeuroticFish, you are a DT2 member

I guess that I was not clear enough, but that was exactly what I meant by adding the feedback "for better visibility": I knew that I'm DT2 (I have bpip extension on and also icopress told me when he added me) and that my feedback will be visible on the trust numbers in every post (in most of the boards, but not all of them).
The only thing is that I felt that neutral trust was enough...

Congrats for getting DT1  Wink

Just a quick question, what do you think about the move of Haas removing Mazepin from their current roster?

I'd say that's nothing personal and not even against Russians, like some are implying on twitter.
It's simply business: they need somebody who can bring them money, the fatter the sponsor, the better, no matter how bad good driver would that be.
Let's be honest: Nikita's seat was not assured by his skills either.
4343  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: (Scam Alart) Binance Phishing Email Alert on: March 07, 2022, 10:31:52 AM
The main domain is same but the rest of the part of the url is something which will redirect you to an unexpected area.

Unless you actually checked this you cannot be 100% sure that the domain is indeed binance.com. One can easily show one link in the web page and underneath it have something completely different. (Since I didn't receive that mail I don't know for sure, but I'd be wary.)
This is one example: https://binance.com
4344  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is there interested in a Virtual Visa Debit Card ? | Opinion asked on: March 07, 2022, 10:24:08 AM
recently I have received an option to buy a company that can provide Virtual Visa Debit Card.

It's been a very long time since I came across a service that offers reloadable virtual cards for all countries, how come you can manage to do that while the rest of the services can't? Wirex, Advcash, etc. all used to offer that but dropped that service at some point, I'm guessing it was due to some regulations.

I think that OP is not 100% aware of what he can do with that company.
I think that OP, based on the questions/discussion here, should find out whether that card company can do all what's he's wishing for. It would be nice if it's possible, but it's better if he knows everything realistically before buying.

I have also one thing in my mind: wouldn't VISA start questioning around if the card company sells 99% anonymous virtual cards? I think that sooner or later will do that and we may easily end up to a new WaveCrest-like problem. It may worth checking.

M-as bucura sa ma insel. Avem o tara cu programatori multi si buni, dar totusi practic un singur proiect crypto cat de cat.
Din pacate avem si o tara in care pentru multi teapa e un mod de a fi, asa ca increderea (mea, cel putin) se castiga ceva mai greu.
4346  Other / Archival / Re: Anti-military airdrop in support of Ukrainians on: March 05, 2022, 06:33:27 PM
Moreover, KYC is not required. It was enough to register with a Ukrainian IP.

~snip~

It would be nice if a similar action was supported by other major crypto exchanges.

Although I'm not a great fan of KYC, I think that in this case that may be the solution.
Since most established exchanges do require KYC, I think that it would be more feasible to airdrop money based on the KYC info than IP, since IP can be faked with a working proxy.

However, no matter how imperfect it is, it's still a great initiative.
4347  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor - seed extraction on: March 05, 2022, 05:03:58 PM
Is there any "legal" way to retrieve (again) the seed, after Initial Backup process has finished?
I am aware of some "hacking" ways, brute-forcing PIN etc., is there any way how to do it with Suite? Or any other kung-fu way, even with firmware modification, but purely programmatically?
The official FAQ says "NO" (they advice to migrate to new seed & transfer coins), but maybe someone knows the way...

If there's no other way to access the funds, go the hacking route.

If you can access the funds, make an Electrum temporary cold wallet with a Tails OS stick and no internet (make sure you write down the temporary seed, just in case!), send the coins to that wallet, reset Trezor with a new seed (which you backup properly this time), send the coins to Trezor (make sure you keep that Tails OFFLINE), and you're done.

I would not expect a hardware wallet like Trezor is easy to tamper, and that's the reason of the proposed "routes".
4348  Economy / Services / Re: [Hiring] Whitehat hacker on: March 04, 2022, 02:34:12 PM
My wallet has been compromised.
Funds transferred out lead to a specific wallet

What you need is the law enforcement agencies, not a "white hat hacker", which is not what you are expecting to be.
4349  Economy / Reputation / Re: Someone from Bengali local has created an account with same of my username on: March 04, 2022, 10:32:30 AM
You've tagged that account. Not much else you can do, especially as you don't have an especially unique username, so you can't tell 100% that you are targeted by an impersonator.

Edit: I've also gave neutral trust feedback, for better visibility, good idea @dimonstration
4350  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is there a new code to download bitcoin source code on: March 04, 2022, 10:11:35 AM
You have no rights.
I think that you have to do something similar to the solutions proposed here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/16376035/fatal-could-not-create-work-tree-dir-kivy
4351  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I get hacked, 2.4 bitcoin stolen from coinomi wallet on: March 04, 2022, 09:30:45 AM
The point of cold storage is to never ever go online. This also means no more updates.
Isn't it applicable to air-gapped laptops that you can update offline? Like, download it into a flash drive then just update the software? I was thinking of the same thing when it comes to air-gapped phones. So updates don't necessarily mean connecting online.

Updates usually happen online. I don't know if not rooted smartphones can be updated offline at all. So I find your case rather unlikely. Not wrong, but rather unlikely to be used.

Also, I don't see why would update be needed at all. If that's a cold storage, you most probably don't use it for anything else. Since it's offline, newer/safer versions of whatever are not needed.
Imho the only case an update would be needed is that the wallet software made a significant leap and the older transaction files no longer work.

And in such a case (you want to update anything) my advice is wipe the disk (not just reformat), reinstall everything fresh, go offline for good, then restore wallet from seed.
And this won't work with a smarphone-as-cold-storage since "reset to defaults" simply cannot be trusted it will properly clean, hence it's a risk. So for this case some cumbersome solution is needed, probably consisting in a separate safe cold storage and 2x fund transfers for the update to be done properly. And yes, this means the initial cold storage is considered compromised (again, this is only in case of smartphone).
4352  Economy / Economics / Re: Who will Replace Russian Gas Supplies to Europe? on: March 04, 2022, 08:35:29 AM
Nobody. Russia doesn't need to be replaced because gas doesn't need to be replaced. What we know as "electricity prices are high" or "oil prices went up" are short term problems and it is sad that people do not see it. Renewable energy doesn't require as much money as you imagine for sustaining it, the whole cost is at building it and after you did, then it is minor to keep it going. Whereas with stuff like gas and oil you keep paying top price for it all the time.

Meaning, if you pay 100x more right now, which is idiotic I know, then you suddenly start to pay 10% later on each year. That is what the whole world is going towards. Since every nation could use their version of it, then all nations could become energy independent in the long run for sure.

I don't agree to this.
Solar panels do need replacements now and then. Every time I go near wind turbines, some of them are under maintenance.
I was also told that in some cases blades had to be replaced and it's difficult to throw away the old ones (and that person told me that they cannot be recycled).
Also, neither wind nor sun are there always. And snow covers the panels, hail can damage them...
So it's not all nice like in the fairy tales.

The way the grid works needs backup for when the cheap electricity is not available. And the backup cannot just restart every second the clouds come or the wind stops blowing, hence it will pretty much run 24/7.
All in all your fairy tale is far from feasible. Sorry.
4353  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to avoid re-downloading full blockchain node? on: March 04, 2022, 07:55:59 AM
1) in the hot machine which is connected to the internet, download the full blockchain to a USB disc.

Just to be sure: is the USB stick indeed so big to fit the whole blockchain, or you're in pruned mode?
Also, did you try to start with the cold wallet without any initial sync at all? I didn't use Bitcoin Core as cold wallet, but the blockchain should not be needed for only signing transactions.

This may be somewhat off-topic, but configuring Electrum for cold storage should be much easier. It worth a though.

4354  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Russian mixers, might this be a problem? on: March 04, 2022, 07:37:03 AM
Mixers are a terrible idea in general.  Never give someone you don’t trust unfettered access to your coins.   I’d give the advice I would give with gambling.  Don’t risk anything you are not fully prepared to lose.

Anybody should always be cautious when using a new platform, no matter it's gambling, trading, mixing related.
One should be careful and try to use, where possible, reputed platforms and never with life changing funds at once.

That's OK. But from normal cautiousness to labeling all mixers "a terrible idea" is a big step in the wrong direction.
I'd say that your statement is pretty much similar with telling "never use any exchange because not your keys, not your coins".

PS. Some may say that my statements here are biased. Well, I would say the same even if I would not wear this signature, but one can believe what he wants; this is the beauty of the freedom of speech.
4355  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Will Russia and Ukraine join hands...? on: March 03, 2022, 04:42:22 PM
We all already know some of the reasons why Russia and Ukraine have conflicts as reported in many media today
and this tends to be the attitude of Russia's Separatism
and this war will not easily stop or there will be peace
Can the international world as the United Nations (UN) bridge these two countries so that they can make peace or to stop the Russian attack on Ukraine

So your solution against a madman that wants to built an empire is .. to get everybody surrender to him, hence avoid war?!
Ukraine wants EU and NATO. Russia wants Soviet union. Do they seem to have similar goals?

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the world having no longer countries, all under same management and same currency. But not like this. A smart world, not an empire.
4356  Economy / Economics / Re: Who will Replace Russian Gas Supplies to Europe? on: March 03, 2022, 04:34:21 PM
Who will replace Russia?

The chances for that to happen are not so big, since it means to stop very long term contracts and pay damages.
The discussion over the Russian gas is a bit strange. Somehow I feel that neither of the parts (basically Russia and Germany) don't want that flow to stop.

But older coal and nuclear plants will make electricity again instead of gas, GPL is being transported on a big scale, and maybe, just maybe, the other producing countries can chip in, in time.
After all, it's a resource they'll sell for good money.
Yes, more pipelines need to be built, more nuclear power plants need to be also built, it's a long term thing... which should have been done long ago, really, to allow competition and free market.

4358  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum sent transaction lost on: March 03, 2022, 11:04:25 AM
I recently send about 200$ worth of bitcoins to what I thought was another wallet of mine.

If it's a wallet address you don't know and it's also not a change address in your own wallet, there may be that your computer is infected with a clipboard malware, which has replaced the address between your copy and your paste. The previous post tells how to verify that.

If that's the case, you will have to disinfect your computer. A rule is to always double check properly whether the address you send money to is exactly the address you expect.
You can read more here: How to lose your Bitcoins with CTRL-C CTRL-V

Also you may consider acquiring a hardware wallet to keep your funds safe; a computer with malware on doesn't look like a good environment for keeping money there.
4359  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: In times of conflict Be your own bank on: March 03, 2022, 07:46:20 AM
I am not an economist, but I think that the extent to which any Central Bank can intervene in currency exchange markets is very limited, the best they can do is look at the market price history of a certain currency and set some weighted average rate. It is the market that has real power and dictates the price, so central banks can do nothing except for accepting reality and taking some temporary measures to prevent the collapse of a currency.

I'm not an economist either, but I've read the news and I understood (on a certain extent) what the Central Bank does in my country.
It has some big reserves to play with, reserves that he can exchange at will in an attempt to soften the shocks on the Forex exchange(s).
You can see it as the biggest whale on the market, but its aim is not to get the biggest gains, instead to get the price (of the local currency) more predictable (on long term).
Indeed, the actions are not unlimited, but they're far from being something to ignore. So it's not really, or not always the free market the one dictating the price  Wink
