4341  Economy / Economics / Re: Will some companies like Amazon really 'store' Bitcoins? on: August 06, 2021, 02:08:33 PM
I came through a post here
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5351319.msg57557132#msg57557132

And it says that will Amazon adopt btc or not till specified date there.

A question struck my head.
Do such companies need it?
I am not against Amazon or any other big tech names, but as we understand it, Tesla and others have came in crypto to make profits by holding it. But companies like PayPal and Amazon settle millions of dollars on a daily basis sent to their vendors who sell products there successfully. If taken into consideration, then these companies accepting btc will be offering it to users just for their convenience but can't store btc for a long period of time, which means that much btc will be coming back to either exchanges or sold through OTC on a daily basis to settle their deals with vendors quick. Is such an adoption going to harm the overall value of bitcoins if sales will take place through big companies (not Tesla and all who are here for profit)?

This is a pretty interesting topic and one I've not seen brought up before so glad that you did.  I think it really depends on the company itself.  My personal feelings are that Amazon, if there were to eventually start excepting bitcoin and or other cryptocurrencies, would likely keep some and sell some.  Amazon is always looking for ways to make more money and expand it's assets, so like Tesla, I could easily see them doing a mix of selling and storing.
4342  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Your Favorite Bitcoin Quotes ... on: August 06, 2021, 01:57:57 PM
I thought it might be kind of fun to start a thread with quotes that really stick out to you, or have stuck out to you in the past about bitcoin.  Some examples could be things like answering critics, explaining how bitcoin works, etc etc.. any quote at all that you really like, I want to hear!

Here is my all time favorite quote about bitcoin from the one and only Andreas Antonopoulos.. (Context: Andreas was asked if he enjoys or appreciates arguments with anyone who is "against" bitcoin ) ..

"I think many of the intellectually honest people eventually stop being critics, because they suddenly realize that the flaws they are identifying are temporary features, issues, and not inherent problems. There are very few inherent problems in a dynamically evolving design or ecosystem of different designs all competing, that cannot be resolved.  There are critics who criticize this technology primarily based on their world view.   It is politically inconsistent with their world view.  It’s not that they do not like the technology it’s that they do not like the implications of this technology and the primary criticism you get then is “this should not be” to which all I can answer is ..and yet it is.  “but we mustn’t”… and yet we did, “but you shouldn’t”.. but yet we did".
4343  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: some people uneducate about Bitcoins on: August 06, 2021, 01:55:20 PM
5 years ago I heard about Bitcoins  some feedback are good but some of them are negative

Untill now In my country if you say/discuss about Bitcoins expect that their response are negative.

Why does some people always say negative about Bitcoins?

1. Lack of knowledge about Bitcoins, uneducate People only saw the negative sides of Bitcoins.
2. Some of them say negative feedback because of their experience on some sites about Bitcoins,  because now a days Bitcoin are popular but there are many site will scam you if you are spontaneous to invest in not trusted sites.

Yeah I think you hit the nail on the head with why people tend to be negative about bitcoin or when it comes to talking about bitcoin.  I think most people whom are negative about bitcoin simply don't understand the technology or it goes against their beliefs..here is my all time favorite quote from Andreas..

4344  Economy / Economics / Re: knowledge and Capital which is Very important in Business or Investment? on: August 05, 2021, 08:33:50 PM
I have heard a lot of people talk about success and almost all of us are chasing after it, with the intention of making it right.
Most of us also want to venture into them without getting the rudiment and fundamentals of the business and investments before engaging in them. So a factor or several factors are been considered before and for a more renounced performance called (Success), so what is most important to an individual, company, or organization to consider before investing to attain the desired height of success?

Is it KNOWLEDGE or CAPITAL, or even BOTH?

This question is not even up for debate.  As a licensed financial advisor I can tell you that if you don't have knowledge about something you're investing in, than you're committing one of the most basic investment 101 mistakes.  ALWAYS do your homework before investing in something.  Take the time to sit down and really look over things, otherwise you may get lucky and make some money but more than likely you'll lose or make less than you could have.
4345  Economy / Economics / Re: Who is Happier: Stock investors or Bitcoin investors on: August 05, 2021, 08:31:24 PM
One of the sure-fire ways to build wealth is by investing your money, especially in stocks from a company with strong fundamentals.  Interestingly in recent times cryptocurrencies most especially Bitcoin has been the talk of the town due to its massive ROI.

Warren Buffett is one of the most successful  stock investors, in the world. Yet, Buffett has said he won’t ever buy the cryptocurrency for several reasons . Other hand  Michael Saylor, an early Bitcoin investor and proponent has  been credited with  institutional Bitcoin boom in December 2020. He has made billions of dollars from Bitcoin.
There are others like Mr Buffett and Mr Michael all over the world.

Truth be told  both investors are doing very well.  My question now is , Who is Happier?  Is it the Stock investor or the Bitcoin investor?

I dont think that you can really say who's happier.  Who's happiest is those whom profited handsomely and time the markets correctly ( often involving a good bit of luck ).  As for in regards to Warren Buffett, he is a dinosaur.  Warren Buffett has actually admitted that he knows nothing about technology and knows nothing about bitcoin and blockchain technologies, yet still bashes them.  This is a true sign of utter ignorance.  When you don't know about how something works yet still talk poorly about it that just shows you how poor the source of that hate is.  Warren may be a legendary investor, but he's not free of being a complete idiot at times.
4346  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tokyo 2020 Men's Olympics Basketball Tournament on: August 05, 2021, 03:14:03 PM
A great win for USA basketball, I was certainly worried about them due to their sluggish start but it looks like they are really starting to gel and I would have a very hard time believing that they won't be bringing home the gold.  I have to give it up to Kevin Durant as well.  I love that this is his third Olympics and that he is absolutely dominating the world.  I figured he wanted to be "the man" on this team and he sure has been showing it.
4347  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Bitcoin worth so much? on: August 05, 2021, 02:00:39 PM
Many other cryptocurrencies have been improved upon based on Bitcoin. In other words, Bitcoin must be inferior to them, but why is Bitcoin's value number one by far?
Why is Bitcoin worth so much? Huh

As others here have stated, bitcoin was first and was the model for others to base their coins on, but that DOESN'T mean that they are better than bitcoin or have improved upon bitcoin.  It's important to remember that bitcoin was first so no other blockchain has been tested like it has before which gives it a major advantage over all other coins.  The truth is when it comes to coins like Bitcoin Cash or Bitcoin SV, you have no idea if their "updated" blockchains would be able to handle the inflows and outflows that bitcoin has been able to handle.  So no, bitcoin is not inferior.
4348  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitcoin atms on: August 05, 2021, 01:56:10 PM
I have a good buddy who runs a few bitcoin ATMs and he normally has nothing but great things to say about them.  I think overall , and this is just my opinion, but I think overall that they are good for bitcoin and cryptocurrency as a whole.  The last time I saw a bitcoin ATM in a connivance store I asked the owner if he was used very much and he stated "all of the time'.  So overall I think it's great for adoption purposes.
4349  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why should you own at least one Bitcoin? on: August 05, 2021, 01:52:14 PM
As a financial advisor by trade, I would disagree with your assessment to an extent. Now I do agree that everyone should try and own at least 1 bitcoin, but for a lot of people, or I should say most people that simply isn't realistic.  Bitcoin is around 40,000 right now and that is a heck of a lot of money for most people.  First off you should have a well diversified portfolio with traditional assets before you have any or any significant amount of bitcoin.  There still is super high risk with bitcoin and you need to be willing to accept substantial lows.
4350  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 NBA Season on: August 04, 2021, 05:14:28 PM

DeRozan, Caruso, and Lonzo Ball. Yes, I can say that's a good addition to support Lavine. He had been shouldering everything since he was signed for Bulls and now they provided help for him. Vucevic was not traded right? I can say that's a solid roster and a good playoff contender if ever the coaching staff will do it right. Well, its Billy Donovan so yes, he can do it right.
Some new faces and I hope they can build chemistry as early as they could. Trades are going crazy. You wake up and suddenly another pretty name goes into a new team.
That kind of reinforcement gives them breathing, Caruso if he'll bring that same level of talents from LA.

I want to see him improving and providing help that Lavine needs, he's explosive and given the right system and allow him to create
his space, while knowing DeRozan he's also a good offensive player, big help for Lavine just need to jive and blend with everyone,.

Yeah that is what I am probably most excited about, seeing what Zach Lavine can do with a legitimate roster around him.  If he can't get them to a decent playoff seed then it will show he is not the super star that some ( or he ) believes that he is or is becoming.  To actually win a championship we would still need another super star, but this is certainly a good start for him.  I have to imagine if he plays well this year he will be offered a max contract..but we shall see.
4351  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 NBA Season on: August 04, 2021, 03:13:44 PM
I'm not sayin that we are going to win a championship this year or the next, but what the Chicago Bulls have been doing this offseason is an absolute breath of fresh air for this lifelong bulls fan. For the longest time time under Gar/Pax it was clear they had absolutely zero clue what they were doing.  Making all these signs/trades etc that made no sense ( Jabari Parker, Dwayne Wade for ex). Now under Artūras Karnišovas leadership we seem to finally want to start being competitive and heading towards actually legitimacy.  Just a great feeling..FINALLY!

No the Bulls did trade for Nikola Vučević.  " The Orlando Magic traded All-Star center Nikola Vucevic and Al-Farouq Aminu to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Wendell Carter Jr., Otto Porter Jr. and two first-round picks, it was announced Thursday. The first-round picks going to the Magic are for 2021 and 2023, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski".

So it was not cheap but the guy is a 20 and 10 player and those don't grow on trees.

Kemba Walker to the Knicks after getting a buyout from OKC… The deals just keep coming. The NBA looks a lot different this week and it’s still so early in the process. I feel like this is going to be the busiest offseason for NBA teams that we’ve seen in a while. So far no crazy jersey burning or any negativity surrounding any of the moves so far.

I hear ya, it has been a very fun offseason so far.  As my post above shows, I feel like my Bulls finally have a legitimate future.  It's also really nice to see that there really are the "Super Teams" any more.  I mean there are some teams that are clearly ahead of most teams due to them having multiple super stars ( Like the Nets ) but even still it's not like the Warriors team a few years ago or the "Big 3" in Miami.  Have the Suns made any interesting moves this offseason yet?

4354  Economy / Economics / Re: The Role of Government in Crypto on: August 04, 2021, 02:28:00 PM
the primary role of government is to provide a regulatory framework in an economy, Government sole responsibility is to provide a guideline on how thing are to be done within their jurisdictions.

this is not different with cryptocurrency although cryptocurrency is created with high anonymous the truth remains that cryptocurrency co-exist with other factors in the economy such as the bank and the traditional currencies, for crypto to become a full flesh currency it need to under go government regulation because that is the only way cryptocurrency will be considered a legal currency.

questions:

will government regulations on cryptocurrencies undermined crypto decentralized nature?

I agree that the government should be regulating cryptocurrency markets as that is vitally important.  If they didn't monitor them, that would be like them not monitoring the stock markets, and that is a bad thing.  If they didn't monitor them then we would have more coins like Bitconnect and BitClub.

I think some governments will try to undermine crypto and have already started doing so in some places.
4355  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin videos on Youtube....and a suggestion for our possible BCT channel. on: August 04, 2021, 01:49:11 PM
I have very few merit left but I had to leave one for this write up..I could not agree more.  It AMAZES me how many idiots are out there on YouTube with their "crypto channels" spewing mostly utter nonsense and falsehoods.  I mean let's not forget that Bitconnect was once promoted all over YouTube by "professional crypto YouTubers" lol.  I am thankful that I found this forum and even more thankful for the group I found here whom actually knows what they hell they are talking about and has helped me learn over the years.  I have buddies who try sending me youtube videos and I just laugh and send them Andreas videos back.
4356  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How did you first hear about Bitcoin? on: August 04, 2021, 01:45:58 PM
This is a great topic and one I have always wanted to know exactly how I personally found out about bitcoin.  I know that I found out about bitcoin sometime in 2013 and didn't purchase any until very early 2015.  It's funny but I actually had a dream the other night that I had first bought bitcoin in 2012 for like $100 bucks lol..no idea why I had that dream.  Anyhow I wish I knew exactly how I found out about it, but I do know it was 2013ish..I think it may have been through coin collecting.  The Anonymous Mint made 1 oz copper coins that had a bitcoin symbol on one side and something else on the other...I think this is how I first found out about it.

I like the 8-team league.  It's been several years since I've played FF, and considering how busy I've been lately the smaller league will allow me to remain competitive without having to invest a lot of time.  I agree that more teams can make things more interesting with waivers and trades, I just don't think that's right for me at the moment.  My vote is to keep things the way they are.

I personally don't like anything less than 12 man leagues.  With an 8 team league there's not much competition being that everyone has a stacked team and if anyone's players get hurt then you can easily go pick up a stud off of the waiver wire.  HOWEVER, I know I am an obsessive freak when it comes to fantasy football and spend way too much time on it each and every year.  I play in at least 3 leagues and try to play up to 5...so yes I know most people are not like me in the sense lol.

There are less "studs" in non ppr.

It separates real players from prima donna's.

You know whats funny is that we started that league you speak of as a fun league, hows that working out for you?

LOL you are the only person whom I've ever heard complain about PPR leagues and I've been playing for about 15 years now.  This also has NOTHING to do w/your old league as there is literally one player left over from it (phish).  It's a new league (this will be year 3 ) and it's been going well.  We've had a couple people do a poor job setting their lineups at times but other than that it's a very good league.  It's still fun, we just take it more seriously because it's more fun that way.  Like I told phish when I "took over" the league and made a new one, you're a weirdo.  Good chat though bud  Cheesy

Fantasy Football League Looking for one or two players    If anyone is interested in joining my league, which is now in it's third year, shoot me a direct message.  Here is what our league looked like last year - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5268410.msg54983626#msg54983626

Some things to keep in mind.. This is a serious league that we all take very seriously.  If you have an interest in playing you need to make sure that you are serious about playing, will set your lineup each and every week, know what you're doing and know about football to an extent, etc.  We've had some people not live up to these rules in the past and it literally ruins the league. Buy-in will likely be $100 ( paid in bitcoin ) like it has been the past couple years.  Last year due to the rise of bitcoin the payouts were huge.  I think 1st place won several thousand dollars and second place one a thousand.  Any-who, if you're a serious player and interested let me know!
