4341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [2019-05-08] Mortgages Are Coming to Ethereum This Summer on: May 09, 2019, 05:50:15 PM

https://www.coindesk.com/well-tokenize-the-house-mortgages-are-coming-to-ethereum-this-summer?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=coindesk&utm_term=&utm_content=&utm_campaign=Organic%20

On Thursday the fintech startup Fluidity will announce plans for the first ethereum-powered mortgages in California and New York, CoinDesk has learned.

Fluidity execs say the offering is slated for this summer, once all the licensing paperwork is finalized.

“We’ll tokenize the house, which will effectively take the collateral that is the equity of the house,” said Fluidity chief architect Todd Lippiatt. “You’re pledging the house and you get an advanced rate back in terms of dollars.”

Fluidity formed in early 2019 when the ConsenSys decentralized exchange (DEX) merged with the FINRA-registered broker-dealer Propellr. Fluidity co-founder Sam Tabar told CoinDesk that although ethereum mogul and ConsenSys founder Joe Lubin is still a major shareholder in AirSwap, now a Fluidity subsidiary, the newborn parent company has a distinct set of shareholders – including veteran crypto investors like Brock Pierce, Bill Tai and Lubin’s former college roommate, Mike Novogratz.

Fluidity’s upcoming mortgages will use smart contracts and cryptocurrency for back-end management. Lippiatt told CoinDesk his startup is currently exploring partnerships with ethereum-centric lending platforms, such as MakerDAO’s dollar-pegged DAI loans.

Although the ethereum-backed stablecoin is still struggling to achieve stability and liquidity in broader markets, Lippiatt said mortgages from any such prospective partnership would merely involve a “mitigatable” risk. This is, in part, because neither the borrower nor the property seller will directly touch cryptocurrency.

“We will deal with the inner workings of the decentralized system,” he said. “The borrowers pay back in dollars and we will also be managing the risk profile of the underlying securities.”

In short, borrowers will need to submit online credit checks and personal information just like any other online loan platform. Fluidity processes the information and creates a smart contract with a tokenized representation of the mortgage. Lippiatt said these loans could then be packaged together and resold as securities through an exchange like AirSwap.

In his view, underbanked and low-income borrowers who are able to make repayments represent a prime opportunity for such loans.

“The whole portfolio will be a composition of a bunch of different loans,” he said. “We’re looking at methodologies by which we can deploy [underwriting] more algorithmically.”

DeFi smart contracts will provide theoretically auditable records, plus Lippiatt said Fluidity plans to offer cheaper rates than banks. Still, the process itself offers the borrower a quasi-traditional mortgage. It’s the issuer and subsequent traders who gain the most functionality from this blockchain system.

In conclusion, Lippiatt added:

“Our methodology provides better pricing that is determined solely by the intrinsic credit of the transaction, as opposed to external factors like domestic central bank governance policies and political trade winds.”

The company plans to make the announcement later today at its second Fluidity Summit in Brooklyn. The one-day conference sold 900 tickets this year, 120 more than in 2018, according to event staff.
4342  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: CASINOS AND SPORTSBOOKS CLAIMING TO BE THE BEST on: May 09, 2019, 05:44:40 PM
Its a just their form of marketing and I dont have a problem with it.
Have you ever watched a commercial where a car advertiser claims he has the best prices on a specific model.
Go to the dealership and realize it was all a gimmick just to get you in the door.
My only cringe is when a sportsbook says they have the best odds on the internet but its a lie.
4343  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Game of Thrones - Who will rule? Odds and betting discussion [Odds updated!] on: May 08, 2019, 11:50:12 PM
I am wishing to place more wagers on the remaining 2 episodes but cant find any sportsbooks offering odds.
If anyone knows that there are still sportsbooks with odds please post them here.
Thank you!

I was new to poker and went 'all in' with pocket 3's and pulled QUAD 3's on the flop.
I will never forget the expression of the table when I turned over my 3's and beat out the FULL BOAT!

#6  Only wager with your brain and not your heart.  This way there isnt any biases when placing your bet.
#7  Never chase your loses but instead sit out and live another day

Maybe you will get some more positive feedback or any replies if you begin to post some winners.
4347  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BTC getting too expensive to gamble with on: May 08, 2019, 10:49:17 PM
Its only going to get more expensive as the price continues to increase.
I just sent a BTC transaction and it cost me about $1 which is about 99 cents too much.
For this reason alone I am not gambling as much since it costs me too much to send the BTC.

I dont think there are many people who give Boston a chance tonight at Milwaukee therefore the -8.5 line.
I have chosen to include MIL 1.25 with a few of my parlays since I dont see BOS getting up for this one.
Boston must win the next 3 games in a row against MIL and I believe its not going to happen with how Giannis has been as of lately.

Reason why gambling sites that have a lot of funds always win and never lose because players always play there winning even not on the same day that result for them to lose. Only disciplined player can win against a casino.

that is a sign of a good gambler to play again on the next day instead of playing all your profits on the same day that you won because that will only lead to a possible losses   . the reason why gambling sites have alot of funds is because gambling sites must need a huge capital before they start thier business because gambling is a huge industry , there are many gamblers around the world and most of them are also betting huge amount .
One of the most important rules I learned about sports betting is to not chase your loses-  but to rather live another day.
These book makers know they can hang a lopsided number on the last game on of the evening knowing there are gamblers who are chasing.
Its just best overall to only bet on games you think see value not to try to cover your daily losses.
4350  Bitcoin / Press / [2019-05-07] Bitmain Discloses 88% Drop In Its Own Bitcoin Mining Power on: May 07, 2019, 07:23:17 PM

https://www.coindesk.com/bitmain-discloses-88-drop-in-its-own-bitcoin-mining-power?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=coindesk&utm_term=&utm_content=&utm_campaign=Organic%20

Bitmain’s internal bitcoin mining operations are generating 88 percent less computing power than a month ago, suggesting that the industry giant has cut back on capacity.

According to the hashing power disclosure that the company releases each month, as of May 7, the hash rate of all Bitmain-owned hardware running the SHA265 algorithm – which the bitcoin and bitcoin cash networks are based on – had dropped to just 237.29 quadrillion hashes per second (PH/s). Just a month ago, it was at  2,072 PH/s.

Bitmain, based in Beijing, manufactures mining equipment that it sells to others and also mines coins for itself. The firm started disclosing the hashrate of the machines it owns on a monthly basis in July of last year. Archived pages available online show that the hash rate was 1,692 PH/s that month, and then increased to 2,339 PH/s in October.

This figure then dropped below 1,700 PH/s in March, in line with the overall decline of the bitcoin network’s total computing power since November of last year as bitcoin’s price plunged below $4,000 during the same period. It then climbed slightly in early April before the latest steep drop.

Partly as a result of that drop, Bitmain’s share of the bitcoin network’s total computing power has also shrunk from four percent to now just 0.4 percent.

Assuming all the hashing power comes from the more widely used AntMiner S9, each with a hash rate of 14 tera hashes per second (TH/s), Bitmain may have ceased using more than 130,000 machines to mine for itself.

The cutback is notable since many miners in China have been gearing up to take advantage of cheap hydroelectric power during the coming rainy season. As recently as March, Bitmain was said to be planning to deploy $80 million worth of its own machines this summer.

Smaller slice, bigger pie

To be clear: none of this should be taken to mean Bitmain has shut down all its mining equipment.

Even as the company’s share of computing power on the network has declined, the denominator has grown: bitcoin’s total hash power just reached a six-month high over 58,000 PH/s on May 2, according to data from blockchain.info.

Meanwhile, the hash rate of the bitcoin cash network – which Bitmain has vocally supported – has been steady around 2,000 to 2,500 PH/s since early this year, data shows.

When contacted by CoinDesk, a Bitmain spokesperson would not say what exactly led to the decrease in the firm’s hash rate.

“It is [in the] natural course of the mining business where the hash rate owned by one body at one instant may be owned by someone else at another instant,” the spokesperson said, possibly referring to hash trading marketplaces such as Nicehash.com.

Also, Bitmain has been advertising a contract cloud mining service for retail customers called BitDeer that uses the company’s flagship AntMiner S15, S17 and S11 equipment, with many plans marked on the website as sold-out.

4353  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Would you play at a casino where payments are delayed for days? Why? on: May 07, 2019, 07:10:57 PM
Currently in the process of waiting on a payout for more then 24 hours- I will not mention which site it is.
It is really sad that casino operators would take so long to make a payment of such small amount of money especially since I have lost much more at this casino.
If I am not paid by tomorrow I will post it in this thread for all to see.
4354  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will you buy lottery online in bitcoin payment? on: May 07, 2019, 07:08:45 PM
Without any proven legitimacy of your service and even if so there is very little chance I would buy lottery tickets online with Bitcoin.
Would much more prefer to walk into a local shop and purchase with case in hand and not have to worry about getting scammed.
4355  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Regulating bodies on: May 07, 2019, 07:07:02 PM
Online gambling is very popular nowadays, specially those who also uses crypto for playing. With this popularity, there's ton of gambling sites/operators available. But the problem is who to trust? who plays fair and pays fair?

Are there any regulating bodies that verifies, rates, and promotes gambling sites that is genuinely fair to its customers? Not just on fair plays but also gambling sites that protects its customers identity etc. Thank you.
Your playing with fire by gambling with cryptos if its illegal where you live.
Even more so it is important to do your own research when deciding to deposit your coins into a casino.
To my knowledge there are no real regulatory bodies and always be careful with what you read on here.

4356  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How much did you make from gambling in 2018! on: May 06, 2019, 07:38:30 PM
I made negative money from gambling last year and I think its safe to assume most people did too.
Anyone who comes in here bragging how they made a lot of money from gambling is either lying or exaggerating.

The Golden State warriors are getting a lot of love tonight since opening -1.5 are now a pick.
I already have the warriors winning the title and I see a pick tonight as being excellent value.
Even if they lose this game tonight it will be 2-2 and they still have home court advantage.
Regardless I think they come out victorious tonight.
4358  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What Triggers Gambling Addiction on: May 06, 2019, 07:30:51 PM
Easy question for me to answer is whenever there is a sports match being advertised on TV think what the spread might be.
Or for example if a athlete is on a commercial, my brain goes into gambling mode and I think about ways to make money.
4359  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling - Eating your Brain and Money on: May 06, 2019, 07:27:12 PM
If you are not careful gambling can consume much of your time brainpower and money.
There are so many online casinos to play at and with all of these playoffs occurring in EPL, NBA and NHL there is tons of games to wager on.
It is not a good idea to go into a gambling mood without eating.  I find myself to be making irrational wagers when i am hungry.
4360  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How safe is Bitcoin gambling on: May 03, 2019, 07:46:27 PM
Well for me I have not experienced any problems when gambling with Bitcoins.
The only real problems that occur is delayed deposits and withdraws from certain sportsbooks - we all know who those are.
As far as being worried about getting my Bitcoins, just play at a reputable site and you will be ok.
