LOL!
And working for power company = free electricity      -----> MASSIVE LOL!

I wouldn't be surprised if it were so. In my country (Poland) power company workers also get some free electricity (AFAIK they still have to pay but they get it super-cheap).
4362  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Overclocking 5850 on: January 11, 2012, 10:42:25 PM
So the only thing that sometimes works is the clock tool.....and that only works about 50% of the time.

Moral of the story:  Only buy 5850's with a bios that allows for more than 775 Mhz.

Lesson learned.....

You can always edit / flash a different BIOS with RBE.
4363  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Overclocking 5850 on: January 11, 2012, 08:08:58 PM
be careful with msi afterburner. people say it'll fry your cards by setting the max voltage at random.

Only if you are monitoring the voltage and using another tool which does the same (GPU-Z, Everest).

AFAIK it only applies to HD5000's VRMs

What 750 watt PSU is it?

What else do you run on it (3 HD5970s will be too much)?
4366  Economy / Services / Re: UK based web site tester. on: January 09, 2012, 02:07:05 PM
May I ask why it is imperative for the cadidate to be UK-based?

Apart from that - I would be fit for the job (ok, I'm also an amateur developer:P).
4367  Other / Off-topic / Re: 1GH/s, 20w, $700 (was $500) — Butterflylabs, is it for real? (Part 2) on: January 07, 2012, 12:34:05 AM
Pretty sure it was there previously, except that it said "1.05 Ghash +/- 10%" instead of 800 and change.

You sure?
Don't remember it myself.
4368  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator [v0.17] on: January 06, 2012, 12:00:13 PM
Because ALL bitcoin addresses always start with 1. No such thing as a 3 address.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Address :
Quote
A Bitcoin address, or simply address, is an identifier of approximately 34 alphanumeric characters, beginning with the number
1 or 3
An example of a Bitcoin address is 37muSN5ZrukVTvyVh3mT5Zc5ew9L9CBare

So there's no way to make use of all GPUs simulatenously?
Or maybe I could be running 3 instances of oclvanitygen each for each GPU to increase the probability of finding an address and it's priv key? Would that be the same?
4369  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Which drivers and opencl ver are now best for mining? on: January 05, 2012, 11:10:19 PM
Hi,

I haven't updated my drivers since may - I have ATi 11.5 drivers and v2.3 ATi Stream SDK, there's the CPU bug and I need to use dummy plugs because I run my miners on Win7_64 Pro.

From which driver version there's no more need for dummy plugs?

Which versions don't have the CPU bug?

Which version is the fastest and most stable (=what also matters is not necessarily the total hashing power but the number of shares - sometimes O/C (even if the GPU doesn't hang or render stales) may even decrease the number of submitted shares despite the increase of total hashing power)?

4370  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator [v0.17] on: January 05, 2012, 10:32:56 PM
Hello everyone, I have a few (noob) questions Smiley

- Anyone know how to use all GPUs for oclvanitygen?
And why if I select GPU #2,for ex.:

oclvanitygen -r -d=2 123

Only my primary GPU (GPU #0) will be used? In my case this is a slower GPU.

- Why with -r only the CPU can be used (vanitygen prints "WARNING: Using CPU pattern matcher")?

- Are there any better/faster address generators out there?

- Why I can only generate addresses starting with "1"? Aren't there anymore addresses left starting with "3"? Tongue

- Why am I getting higher speeds without "-r" on CPU?
Without: ~350kkeys/sec
With: ~75kkeys/sec
Isn't it supposed to be the other way around (expression can be placed anywhere in the address instead just at the beginning)? Or am I getting something wrong?

- I have a Q9300 undervolted to 0.975V and underclocked to 2GHz to save power (stock 2.5GHz and sth like 1.1 or 1.2Vcore), before mining this used to be primarily a gaming rig, and I had this CPU running @ 3.5GHz and 1.32Vcore, what speed can I expect if I decide to O/C it back to 3.5GHz? I think it'll increase linearly but not sure and will probably do it unless I find a way to generate addresses with the "-r" option.

- Any way to generate shorter addresses (shortest as possible, 25 base58 chars?)

Thanks.

The current plans for SDM is to be 60% FPGA tech by July. With ButterflyLabs Bitforce units and RigBox looking to be the real deal, calculations and discusions are started up and if all goes well, SDM will have a 50ghs FPGA box by then middle of the year.
There is alot more I wish to share, but I do not want to do so until there are certain factors that have been worked out. One thing for sure is that 2012 will be the year of the Bitcoin, or atleast I wil do what I can to help the network gain acceptance and use. If that means that I provide help, services and anything else i can to the community to help that happen, I will be glad to do what ever I can.

P-l-e-a-s-e BE careful with them as they haven't been entirely honest with everyone so as not to get scammed again.

Personally I would wait till at least a few other forum members report everything is fine, but even then - standard 6 month warranty doesn't sound too good.

P.S. sent you an e-mail.
4372  Economy / Goods / Re: Steam Coupons on: December 31, 2011, 12:26:22 AM

4373  Other / Off-topic / Re: I dont know where else to post on: December 27, 2011, 10:36:25 PM
I don't know where else to post either.

I don't know why you are getting scammed so often, a lot of it via PayPal, and yet you continue to use it.

I don't know if what you are saying is true or not - because you do not sound convincing.

I hope what you are saying is truth, because I am really counting on getting my $200 back (waiting since October), if you're a scammer this will be harder (if possible at all).

If this is true then all I can do is wish you good luck - and remember that the quicker you get over it and start acting the better it will be for you.

I also had and have problems of my own (even tried suicide in the past but failed to succeed (not recommended)), but I never write about them on public forums - it won't help.

Hoping to get my money back,
Good luck,
Malevolent

Selling the five GPUs stated above. I am based in the EU.

First non-lowball offer takes them. Looking for at least 200BTC.

If I split them, you're paying shipping.

Buyer pays first unless very trusted. Bitcoin payment only.

1. Better state your price in USD or EUR (better EUR 'cause I'm also from EU) b/c BTC is too volatile now. If you mean 200 BTC @ 3.9 USD (mtgox rate at time of writing this post), then I'm not interested.
2. Ofc pictures with your nickname and date handwritten pls.
3. Have you got warranty on them? When and where were they bought?

4376  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Information on ATI 7xxx Series Dec. 5th! on: December 21, 2011, 07:43:05 PM
Well,I get 840 m/hash(420 each with OC'in) with my crossfire 6970's @ 740 watts(entire PC with fans & AMD 965 quad).My electricity is .11 kwh=about $60-80 per month.Still profitable,but barely.

You could sell your 6970 and get a 5970+5850 (or 5830 at least)

You could also underclock and undervolt your CPU to 1 GHz or less... unless you ain't only mining with it Cheesy
4377  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Power Supply Calculations on: December 21, 2011, 06:35:31 PM
Stay away from Codegen, you risk frying some or even all of you components, also avoid PSUs from this list (it is not complete):

Akyga, Altis, Aspire, Aton, Bestec, Coba, Codegen, ColorSit, COMPAQ, Computer, Deer, Eurocase, Everpower, Feel, Fever, Four Star, Gembird, Gigabajt, Hawk, Hec, Impet, i-box, Incore, Levicom, Linkword, L&C, Logic, LOGISYS, Megabajt, Mercury, Metropilis, Mustang, Newton Power, Platin Power, Power Color, Powercomp, Power Man, Procomp, Octigen, QTECHNOLOGY, Q-tec, RAIDMAX, Rubikon, Ropla, Sansun, SilenX, Sun Pro, Suntek, Take Me, Task, TE, Tracer, Tronje, Ultra Media, V Power, Win, Xilence, XION, X-Power, 2N

also from this list:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/299096-10-blacklist

if you are unsure, google for reviews, jonnyguru.com is a good resource of extensive PSU reviews/tests

these are examples of good PSU brands:

Amacrox, Antec, Astec, be quiet, Chieftec, CoolerMaster, Corsair, Delta, Enermax, Enlight, OCZ, PCPower&Cooling, Pentagram, Seasonic, Silver Power, Tacens, Tagan, Topower, Yesico, Zalman

but there are worse lines from time to time so always do some google search

Dont want to go on too much details about the differences between cheap and expensive ones but the chinese crap increases your chances of frying one or more components (inadequate or no protection against overcurrent for example), not to mention increased power bills because cheap PSUs will be very inefficient (only look out for PSUs that are at least >80% efficient)

For those 3 GPUs I'd recommend +650W PSU

and 5 & 6 series will run games for the next 3-5 years on max detail
Can you predict btc prices too?

A 6870 can run almost all games on ultra,
Thats a 5770 equivalent.
Nope.
6870 is 10% faster than 5850 (in games, as you started talking about games, for sha256 5850 ofc wins)
5770=6770 (same chip)
5770 slightly slower than/same as 4870
5770 is 40% slower than 6870

Let's wait and see. The price will be most important if reduced wattage is to be the main change over 5xxx

wait a minute what about capital loss?
can i claim that on my taxes!?

Yeah, you should?
But we would really need someone more competent to comment on this.
4380  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Tax when buying bitcoins in an exchange on: December 17, 2011, 11:36:59 AM
Just wondering since I don't have a VAT, do you pay VAT on used items?

Depends on the country.
For example in Poland I have to pay 2% tax upon registering a second hand car (2% of the price paid for that second hand car, but if the price is considered too low by the Revenue Service they will ask for 2% of the car's market value, same goes for real estate, etc. but that's off topic). Most companies, however, are exempt from this tax.

I think that only the BTC exchanges should be paying taxes from profits they make from exchange fees.
As for BTC buyers - tax paid from capital gains?

Here is another question: If you go to the iTunes store and buy a 99 cent music download, do you pay 1.13 for it?

In all probability the VAT tax is already included in those .99 cents.
