I did have some trouble understanding your post, and it seemed to be positive towards Schnorr signatures, but your final conclusion seemed to be negative, and I didn't understand the justification for that. I think you should work on your English, and we would be pleased to help you in the Fit to Talk English project.

Your other big no-no came from your post history. You made a full quote of a large post by JackG immediately after his post. That is extremely annoying, and it is one of the things that triggers me to place members on ignore without even reading their posts.

I seem to have killed my other thread with this post. Is it worth starting threads like these? They are just three that werer the first that I thought of, and they were intended to illustrate that there are lods of topics that can be started.

The Bitcoin/crypto world is so vibrant at the moment, that there are numerous topics that could be started. I'll start three now, and I'll post the links here as I do them. I'd be grateful for comments on their suitability as a guide for my posting in the future.

The impact of Schnorr signatures on the beginners board. The idea is to try to get them to perform a bit of research, and to improve their understanding of Bitcoin.

4363  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Will privacy and merchant adoption fuel the next price rise? on: September 03, 2018, 11:52:01 AM
Everybody is talking about ETFs, but I don't believe that they will be the fuel for the next price rise. As Bitcoin moves further towards being a store of wealth, and merchant adoption increases as secondary services like the lightning network stabilise, they seem more likely to trigger the increase in value. The price of Bitcoin seems to be cyclic, and to add a zero to the price every two years. I think we have missed the chance in the current cycle, but the one due in the summer of next year looks to be on target. Will the current enhancements arrive in time to fuel the next parabolic price increase?
4364  Other / Politics & Society / Should Bitcoin mining be legal in Venezuela? on: September 03, 2018, 11:41:29 AM
Venezuela has a massive problem with their declining economy. Any foreign earnings would seem to be beneficial and should be encouraged by the government. Bitcoin mining offers a means to utilise their low electricity costs to generate what is effectively a hard currency, but the government is making Bitcoin mining illegal, and imposing severe penalties on miners, and confiscating mining rigs. I would have thought that encouraging miners to earn Bitcoin, and offering to exchange this through a government controlled exchange, would boost the national income as well as helping to stabilise the new currency.
4365  Other / Beginners & Help / [for merits] How will the introduction of Schnorr signatures affect Bitcoin? on: September 03, 2018, 11:32:59 AM
Here is a chance for those of you who are interested in improving your knowledge of Bitcoin to pick up a few merits.

The patent on Schnorr signatures expired a while ago, and it is likely that the technology will be incorporated into a few Bitcoin projects. Schnorr offers a chance to improve privacy, and this will become important as the price of Bitcoin increases. It also provides a reduction in transaction size when a single user makes a payment from multiple sources.

I hope that some of our newer members will research Schnorr signatures, and post some interesting opinions and questions about the future impact on Bitcoin. I will be checking for plagiarism, so please ensure that your post are based on your own original ideas and understanding of the concept.

This is really sad - I was going to award some merits to this post -
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4996754.0

I checked the second and third paragraphs, and SER reports them as 78% plagiarised. I didn't research any further. At what level should we say "this thread is OK "?
4368  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Does any of you spend bitcoin in physical shops? on: September 03, 2018, 10:17:24 AM
Virtual purchases seem to be the best use for Bitcoin. I pay for domain names with fiat, and I try to obtain Bitcoin for any sales that i make.

I can see that other virtual assets will be introduced into the Bitcoin economy. For example, in the future you may be able to buy a Walmart gift card with Bitcoin, and spend that on groceries in a store. The card credit could be a prepayment made online in advance of the store visit.
4369  Other / Meta / Re: How can we stimulate Bitcoin Talk? on: September 03, 2018, 10:06:06 AM
I understand that this forum is called Bitcoin Talk, and therefore the primary focus should be on Bitcoin. However, Bitcoin has been so successful that it has spawned a massive change in world economies. I would like to see BT take advantage of Bitcoin's success, and expand into these new areas. In my opinion, Bitcoin is moving away from a basic payment system, and is becoming more of a store of wealth, and an asset base for secondary services.  Bitcoin Talk already has the board structure to support this, and I suspect that Theymos saw the potential, and wants to support it.

This expansion has created two problems. The rise of scam alt coins as fraudsters try to cash in on the crypto euphoria. The possibility for no-knowledge school kids to make generic comments to attempt to earn payments from the scammers' campaigns. The difference that Flying Hellfish has made in the Political chat shows that it is possible to move towards a new forum identity. We can help by supporting him, and also expanding the serious discussion and Ivory Tower boards
4370  Other / Meta / Re: I've just awarded this guy with 3 merits on: September 03, 2018, 08:11:13 AM
Awarding merits is a fairly simple way to encourage members to make interesting posts, and to indicate community approval of their opinions and ideas. If you don't encourage senior members, then they will assume that the community doesn't think their ideas are worthwhile, and they will stop suggesting them. It is extremely difficult to get any traction for new ideas, and even harder to preserve continuity. I gave up on my merit source blog, "ask a legendary", and some of the other projects, as there didn't seem to be any interest in them. Fit to Talk is a bit sporadic as well. The blab chatroom has now become a social room for three of us, and it is no longer something to improve Bitcoin Talk.

It would be good if we could agree on some positive group initiative. There are several community action groups, but they all seem to focus on the negative aspects of posters. Those are essential to police the forum, but we need some positive projects alongside them to replace the rubbish posting.
4371  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Petrol is virtually free in Venezuela, but not for long. on: September 03, 2018, 07:51:41 AM

Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves of ALL countries.. yes, including Russia and Saudi Arabia. If they manage to take full advantage of that, oil prices can dramatically change worldwide.

That's why the deep state doesn't allow them to repair their refineries and exploration facilities. Those oil reserves are being saved for the rebuilding of the new world economies after the collapse of the current ones.
4372  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Does any of you spend bitcoin in physical shops? on: September 03, 2018, 06:34:06 AM
I still haven't been able to bring myself to spend any Bitcoin. I look on it as a store of wealth, and I believe that it is due a major price increase in a few months time. I am happy to accept Bitcoin in payment, but any receipts go straight into savings.

I justify my action by telling myself that Bitcoin needs savers and receivers as well as spenders and miners.

PackT seems to be having a run on Python at the moment - today's book is =
Python GUI Programming Cookbook - Second Edition [eBook]

Don't forget to download the code files as well as the book if you are collecvting it.
4374  Other / Meta / Re: My thread got trashed without a notification and without a reason. on: September 02, 2018, 06:44:40 PM
Bitmain should be advertising here, or at least still be active. The fact that they aren't says something about the mining boards, imho.
4375  Other / Politics & Society / Re: what is the fate of Zimbabwe after Mugabe's exit? on: September 02, 2018, 06:33:41 PM
They seized all the farming land, and gave it to an inexperienced population. The result was the loss of fertile farm land, and food shortages. I gather that they now have to buy food from the former Zimbabwe farmers who moved to Zambia.

South Africa seems to be starting down the same path, and stupid Theresa May is supporting it, and giving them loads of money that we need for investment in the UK.
4376  Other / Meta / Re: My thread got trashed without a notification and without a reason. on: September 02, 2018, 06:26:32 PM
This forum should be a great place for a business that accepts Bitcoin to advertise its products. Just imaging, if Starbucks do start to accept Bitcoin, this should be an ideal place for them to advertise for new customers. They aren't going to do it if their advert is going to be buried amongst all the underworld adverts.
4377  Other / Meta / Re: I've just awarded this guy with 3 merits on: September 02, 2018, 06:07:36 PM
It's really quite a problem. I'm only a junior merit source, but I always seem to have around 200 sMerits available. and I do award them every day. I can see why the senior sources end up giving out sMerits in 10s. It would be great if you could visit a few boards, read some some really interesting threads, and award a few merits. I feel that I need to start a few threads in the hope that I can generate some meritable replies. My problem is that I'm going through a political phase at the moment. I was tempted to start a thread about the litigation over the VolksWagen chimney in Mexico, but that's a bit of a stretch from Bitcoin.

It can't be the Russians. I reckon he is an FBI plant, and he's posting to use Bitcoin Talk to force the impeachment of Donald Trump.
4379  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Electric cars are the future, but not with batteries. on: September 02, 2018, 05:27:34 PM
The inside of EVs. An electric vehicle uses a battery pack to store electric energy, which in turn powers a motor.. so battery is essencial for electric cars for turns on ..

That isn't true. You can generate the electricity directly by using a fuel cell, and then you don't need batteries - well maybe you do for the lights and things.

The problem isn't making money in this forum, but the way that you make the money.
