It seems that I had made a mistake in the thread title, as it incorrectly reflected an end date of May 28, when the body of my OP reflected an end date of the 27th. Here is an archive of the OP that reflects the OP unedited and reflecting the 27th.

I have remediated the issue by correcting the thread title, which I believe to be the most appropriate course of action. I believe honoring the 27th end date is also appropriate -- if anyone disagrees with this please let me know and we can discuss it.

You are most likely going to get a much better deal selling them verses peeling them and redeeming the BTC value, even if you accept a very lowball offer from someone with a high reputation.

Seems pretty simple... mynameisdon comes onto the forum and said he received an e-mail from HashOcean telling him to send BTC to... Huh his own address Huh ...
Well if he is opening this thread, then he is obviously claiming that this is either a misunderstanding or he is otherwise not a scammer.

If you ask me what I think happened, I would say that he was trying to trick people into sending the ~0.0157... BTC to his address hoping to scam the OP out of the BTC in his hashocean account.

Oh the irony of this post
4390  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [auction]1 BTC lealana GILT MS-68 [Funded] on: May 21, 2017, 04:39:03 AM
This is a little lower than I was expecting, however the USD value of these coins is higher than I can give myself justification for not selling, despite how much I enjoy my collection.

I have noticed that as the USD/BTC price has been rising, the BTC premiums have declined, generally speaking.

Congrats to Blazed, I'm sure he will keep it in good hands.
4391  Other / Meta / Re: Marketplace trust on: May 21, 2017, 02:22:33 AM
I think you are looking at the situation the wrong way.

I think you should ask yourself "who is selling their account(s)?" and "what would happen if these people were unable to sell their account?"

Please, enlighten me on what these account-sellers would lose out on if they were unable to sell the account. Now, I understand there are defaulted loans but as we all know: caveat emptor. The loan provider takes the risk and accepts it when they extend their hand to any user. The way I would personally worry about loans is that if I am unlikely to give a no-collateral loan to a user, then I'm equally unlikely to give a loan to a user who provides their account as collateral.

I am unable to think of any other circumstance in which account sales are at least somewhat reasonable however if you have any clever ideas then I'm all for it.
In regards to your point about using accounts as collateral for loans, accounts have value, and therefore will allow a lender of a defaulted loan to recover losses if a borrower is unable to pay -- this results in loans being made that will probably not otherwise be made, which helps the economy and community. I have made loans, secured by accounts to a decent number of people who I believe legitimately fell on hard times, and legitimately were unable to repay what was owed, so I ended up selling their account to recover (sometimes only a portion of) the loan. I also have made a no-collateral loan to someone who I believe fell on hard times (eg not someone who took out the loan with the intention of not repaying me on time), and although I was lucky and eventually was repaid, the repayment was several months late, and I think I was lucky in that I ended up getting anything at all out of the loan.

But to my more broad of a point, the ultimate reason why someone will sell their account is because they have some need for money. If someone is in need of money, has a valuable account, but is unable to sell it, then there is a chance they may use their valuable account to try to scam someone.

I would also point out that when someone buys an account they are investing money into that account. If someone who buys an account and starts to scam/spam, and does not recover their initial investment, they will lose money, so they have incentives not to do this. So those who are actively leaving negative trust against accounts solely for the reason that the account is sold are pushing down the prices of accounts, which lowers the thresholds needed for a scammer to profit off of buying an account, which makes it easier for scammers to make money via scamming, which increases the number of scams.

This is the winning bid.

I will send you a PM shortly.
4393  Other / Meta / Re: Marketplace trust on: May 21, 2017, 01:46:55 AM
Whoa! Let me stop you right there. Account sales are usually not good for the community and thus people may be inclined to think of you in an unsavory manner. You are given negative trust by people who do not trust you. I would not trust someone who sells their account.

Reason: Who would be buying accounts?

a) spammers
b) scammers
I think you are looking at the situation the wrong way.

I think you should ask yourself "who is selling their account(s)?" and "what would happen if these people were unable to sell their account?"

Up for auction is my 1 BTC lealana GILT MS-68 coin.

I will only ship internationally if I have traded with you before, or if I agree to ship to you prior to you bidding

Do you agree to ship internationally?
Sorry, I would only be willing to ship internationally to someone that I know, and I don't know you.

If you know and trust someone located within the US, I could ship it to that person who could then re-ship the coin to you internationally. If you wanted to do this, I would ask that you send payment up front.

4397  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Lauda/TMAN/minifrij extortion attempt on: May 19, 2017, 06:12:01 AM
Before I fully respond to this, I have a question relating to motive. In this situation, should the good things that Lauda has done for the forum & community be a factor when determining reasonable doubt over whether or not this was an extortion attempt to bring someone supposedly shady out into the open -or- an extortion attempt for some sort of financial gain?  Again, I don't really agree with either, but the latter is much worse IMO.
I'll be honest with you, I don't agree that Lauda has done very much to benefit the community. It is my opinion that Lauda has been trying to gain additional power, is power hungry, and is attempting profit personally from his power. I acknowledge that this does not help my case, but that is okay because it is the truth.

To answer your question more broadly, yes I would give someone who I believed to have helped the community in the past more of a benefit of the doubt. I also would be willing to argue a lesser "punishment" for this kind of person to a certain degree, although I would say that the punishment that Lauda has received is not appropriate for someone who has greatly helped the community (again, I don't think Lauda meets that criteria).

I don't think the fact that Lauda sent a demand for payment from zeroaxl is in dispute. It is my understanding that it is not disputed that Lauda sent a message along the lines of "you need to send me BTC or else..." and this kind of message makes any benefit of the doubt given to be disregarded as this would meet the criteria of an extortion attempt.

I would also question how exactly Lauda's activity might have brought someone shady into the open. If my memory serves me correctly, zeroaxl had told me via PM that he was accused of a very wide range of shady behavior, from tax evasion to the hacking of bitfinex. I don't think this fact has been disputed, but I also don't think it has been out in the open in a way so that it could be disputed. I would say that if this is true, it would remove credibility that Lauda was trying to "bring light to shady behavior"

Quote
Also, I'm not sure your example is very compelling for me. Personally, I would first tell Lauda I unfortunately don't own 2BTC - as sad as that is - so attempting to extort me is pointless as I couldn't send it anyway (donations are accepted! Cool). Even if I did have it, I'm too strong minded (or maybe hard headed?) that I would never pay anything for something I didn't do. There are other things I would do in this situation, but I'm not going to give away how I would defend myself. Besides, my wife trusts me and would certainly believe my word over some damn online cat!  Grin
Well you are lucky to be in that kind of marriage/relationship with your wife. I think it is fair to acknowledge that not everyone benefits from your situation, and that a good number of people would be inclined to pay, even if they have done nothing wrong.

Maybe a better example would be Lauda showing you evidence that causes you to believe that he can cause an in-person IRS audit, and he demands $100 worth of BTC, or else he will cause you to get an in-person IRS audit. Even if you have filed/paid your taxes properly your whole life, the time spent taking off work, and the stress of an audit is probably worth more than $100. If I were to receive that kind of extortion demand, I would not pay, and if anyone asked me for my opinion, I would tell them not to pay, however I think that a lot of people would probably pay this kind of extortion demand (sadly). I guess my point is more that there are reasons why someone might pay an extortion payment even if they have done nothing morally wrong (let alone illegal).

edit: here is a quote from a PM that I received
They just brought up "shady" things of mine and never were able to prove that I apparently hacked bitfinex, ran serveral ponzies and even run a botnet, because I didn't do any of that. We decided to talk about it in private.
Feel free to bring anything up against lauda though, I honestly don't think he deserves the staff badge.
4398  Economy / Reputation / Re: Request about Vod's feedback on: May 19, 2017, 05:30:44 AM
A month is too long to wait to resolve this kind of issue. If he cannot timely resolve these kinds of issues, then he should not leave the negative rating in the 1st place.

When you are respected enough to leave negative trust that counts, you can set your own policies on what is too long.   Roll Eyes
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, however you ended up replying to my message within 24 hours. So I guess that means that you respect me enough to quickly respond to my concerns Roll Eyes

For the OP, it has been about two weeks since you contacted me and my answer will be the same:

"Using items you want to sell as collateral" is not something I remove after a period of time.  It shows clear intent to deceive.  Consequence  - he will have a longer road getting to positive trust.
factoring loans are not uncommon as it helps merchants meet their liquidity needs. I don't see an issue with this kind of activity provided that proper disclosures are made so that a potential lender can properly evaluate the risk of making a loan secured by this kind of collateral.

I think this is somewhat of a moot point as of now as the OP seems to be engaged in other shady behavior, at least according to malevolent
