4381  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin dealing massive blow to Western Union on: February 12, 2015, 06:26:58 AM
I've never understood people comparing Bitcoin to a business. Western Union is a business. Bitcoin is an ACH/EFT replacement system. Western union could decide to use Bitcoin to transfer money tomorrow and it would still be the same business. They would just be using a different transfer method.

What don't you understand? Why would I pay Western Union $50 to send $1000 via bitcoin if I can do it myself for free. Or at worst 2-3% fee if I purchase bitcoin with my CC.

Western Union is a business. Coinbase is a business.

Bitcoin is a method of transferring value. ACH/EFT is a method of transfering value.

They're not the same thing.
Well WU also has their own network in a similar way that bitcoin has it's own network. When you send money via WU you are using their network in a similar way that you are using the ACH network when using ACH

Hikmet Ersek is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Western Union. Jack M. Greenberg is the Chairman of Western Unions Board of Directors. Who is the CEO and director of Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is not a company. The flavor of a red apple is not orange.

Count me in! Someone has to stop this ponzi madness!
So if someone makes a 'scam' operation with gold; gold is also a ponzi?
Sure thing.

That has nothing to do with Bitcoin. Those investors probably deserved it. There are no insane returns like that in the real world.

That's not really a fair comparison. Gold is a commodity and does not have the ability to facilitate crime. Bitcoin does.

Gold doesn't have the ability to facilitate crime!? Only the biggest crime of all, modern slavery through gold.....

Any commodity can be used to pay for crime but Bitcoin is custom tailored to facilitate an international criminal enterprise like Silk Road. That's one of the pluses of Bitcoin. Try buying guns or drugs that are 5000 miles away with gold.

Same thing I did the last time that happened. Sell as many as I can sell quickly and wait for the drop to buy back in.

Quote from: Come-In-Behind

You seem like you're delusional with your conspiracies, or on drugs. Pick one.

You went from the FBI always lies(Not saying that haven't, in the past they have done some crooked things, but here, clearly Ross is guilty), to Adolf Hitler's genocide being funded by the monarchies...

Sometimes it's kind of scary to think that the people that post here are just walking around free. Since I started reading this forum I began looking at people on the street and wondering if they could be one of the mental defectives that post on this forum. lol
4394  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ross Ulbricht Guilty of Everything on: February 06, 2015, 07:21:05 PM
Well, the good news for him is he can find plenty of drugs in prison. There's no need for a hidden marketplace where he's going. Murder for hire only costs a carton of cigarettes. It's real easy to score sex too. I guess prison is perfect for him because everything he loves is available in one place. lol

I doubt being butt-fucked by a big black man is on his list of life's pleasures.

Could be wrong........ Shocked

I don't know but he is from San Francisco. For all I know he was in the middle of Folsom street giving blowjobs during the last Folsom street fair. LOL

How would you impliment this change? I see no reason for business to be against the idea. If they had the proper warning they could adjust. Why would it need to devalue the current coins we all hold?

Its funny looking back at the first page of this thread how many posters haven't logged in for a long time even years for some. I wonder how many made a fortune but haven't been back here to where it all started.

A lot of them have been sitting on a huge paper profit. Some realized this profit by selling most of their coins and are enjoying a better standard of living.

I imagine they fall into 3 camps:

3) got REKT holding in one of the major exchanges, most notably Gox

A ton of large scale early adopters took huge hits in the Gox debacle, unfortunately.

even before  GOX the early adopters lost tens of thousands of coins in ponzis like the BTCST and
bitcoinica scams etc

a lot of the most prominent members  a few years ago have disappeared or maybe theyre still here
reading or using new accounts

its possible they cashed out 100%  and "retired" but i doubt it and  anyone who cashed out at $1200 would probably buy back in now at 2xx and wait for the next moon rocket

They might unless they believe it's over.
