441  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: June 18, 2016, 02:11:35 PM
As some might have noticed I have been giving multiple mining pools 24 hour run's with the S9.  This time I tried out Slush Pool.  During the 24 hour run the S9 hashed around 13.9T as shown with extremely low hardware which I have come to expect.   Still no issues with pool comparability, so yet again good news to report.  The pictures below show the results from mining on Slush Pool:

.... full post was cut click here for it: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1493601.msg15260466#msg15260466

Try Nicehash and you will find only  issues with pool comparability  Grin

EDIT.

S9 do not use Cgminer 4.8.0 ?  Instead is  BMminer Version 1.0.0

I have not tested nicehash with it's system, they always wanted you to use extranonce.subscription in past for best results https://www.nicehash.com/index.jsp?p=software#sha256 which I have not used one of nicehash's custom firmwares since S4 day's for me and it seems dated as they have not made it for recent systems. And even if they had one I would hate to modify original firmware anyways on the S9.  With nicehash you also have more pool resets/ server resets so it is tougher on the unit itself.   And honestly I don't see nicehash getting the big extra percentages over regular pools it did long ago.

I have been testing regular mining pools I see Nicehash and MRR as different beast's in my mind.   So I will continue testing different pools but those two I don't plan to be in them.

I don't think mining is worth it unless you have a nice set up, maybe invest in some miners? But just using a regular PC? I don't think so...

Most forms of mining take investment at this point.  To mine BTC it's going to take an investment in a asic.  Ether is possible you could do on a regular PC if it was set up for gaming and had nice card, most are not going to be this though. So most will be investments.

But many are building PC rigs to mine Ether so it can be done, and is being done.   And profit is there if done right.
444  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Require Teachers on: June 17, 2016, 11:44:31 PM
May I suggest a different approach: you don't need an external teacher to learn anything, you are always the best teacher for yourself.

Simply read, think, try, fail, repeat. I've never approached learning any other way and it's always worked for me.
i think it is too difficult to learn and know about such a huge website and system. if some one is a newbie he must get information from some one.

You have to take it in section's I think if you look at every single bit of info on the site .... there is just a ton to learn.  You could study for months this forum has so many good resources and posts.

But I think pick topics learn it move on to another.  For example first just learn very beginner bitcoin information, don't jump straight to white paper unless you are petty technical.  Then maybe learn about mining, trading, alt coins, etc.   You will find many topics and pick what you want to learn next.

Also one of the biggest thing is when learning you will find things you enjoy learning.  Certain topics I would hope you dig in and really love to just keep reading and learning.  For example for me I love mining.  I read it daily and still learn things.  If you spend time on the site you will find something you enjoy and it honestly becomes fun learning.
445  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to create BTC wallet on: June 17, 2016, 11:37:49 PM
there are so many ways of creating BTC wallet. but  i preffer you to open your account in yobit. it is reliable and easy to be created.

Not a good idea at all in most cases.   That would be storing in a exchange is what I think you men with using yobit account.  It would be very nice with so many wallets on exchange all in one screen.  But there are to many cases of exchanges being hacked.

Exchanges are a BIG target so storing your BTC long term there is not advised.  There are a lot better options out there and just use exchanges when trading money.  There are exceptions like coinbase which has a insurance policy for hacking (most exchanges don't).  But again so many better way's then a standard exchange for storage.  Which one depends on what you wanting wallet for.
446  Other / Meta / Re: PSA: ACCOUNTS WILL BE LOCKED IF THE SECRET QUESTION IS USED TO RECOVER IT on: June 17, 2016, 11:31:03 PM
Shit.....just got locked out of my account by answering the secret question. I can't believe they haven't taken this out or disabled it yet. I'm afraid I won't get control back of my "main" account for a long time....

Be patient and persistent sending messages to Theymos. It took me about two to three months of a signed message a week before he finally responded and apologized for the late response.

It does take patience in some of the cases it is kinda seen as a lessor issue with it being known I think.  It is hard to get info about it to every user I bump a thread I made in beginner about once a month - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1214627.0 .   The good news is overall it has slowed down a ton, it was multiple a day at first.   Now it's much much slower.

I would suggest starting your own thread in meta about issue though.   List user and problem about lock.    And then the patience part comes in, I would bump your thread and send email once a week.  I would not do it any more then that as you don't want to be a pain to admins.
447  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Asking for your advice on: June 17, 2016, 11:20:52 PM
Decided to purchase S9, as the most efficient and powerful device. More spend, more gain.

I think it is good decission, S9 might be most power effecient miner for very long, probably over one year. But the S9 price could get down, especially after halving.

The thing is then you are giving up pre-having mining by waiting.  So it's a trade-off as mining now is huge in my eyes right before having.   So will S9 go down in time? Yes (how much we have no idea).    But you missed mining before having so you did not get some coins you could have.

It is all speculation on what is best.  But I would keep in mind the trade off of the coins you did not get to mine by waiting.  It could add up depending on many variables.

I agree about trade-off before halving, surely they do it intentionally. But I don't want to buy something that I'll need to sell after halving in case just to get some less-difficulty coins. I want to mine as long as I can, and probably get some profit. In this case I'll better wait for S9, and just trade bitcoins this halving. And that profit I can spend on a miner (and some more btc) after the halving.

I'm not sure what you mean by "surely they do it intentionally".   The S9 before having get's more mining from now till having so a larger price is expected.   It is worth more before having so it makes sense it would be higher before. (And again that is pure speculation I have no idea price after having).

But with a S9 you will not "need to sell after halving" it's king on efficiency right now so it will be mining after having.  So I do think you made the right purchase there.
448  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What is the best hardware to mine Bitcoins? on: June 17, 2016, 11:12:15 PM
I'm looking to buy some hardware for mining bitcoin, since I have no spending power, then wanted to know what would be the best hardware to be able to mine?

I'm not sure on your "no spending power" I'm guessing you mean "free" power?  Also we really need to know do you have an area you can handle heat/noise?   Also how much "free" power do you have?

If this is going in your bedroom for example we are looking at a different miner then say a room you are not spending time in.    But with free chances are used is what you will be looking for, and looking for most amount of hash you can get for your money with being "free".   Bitmain normally is lowest price per hash even on used gear due to so many using them.    The exact model will depend on your answers.

But if you let us know noise/heat you can handle, and how much power you have we can help more.   It's not a one size fit's all on best model when it comes to "free".
449  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help. What is Bitcoin mining, and how do I do it? on: June 17, 2016, 04:54:15 PM
Mining bitcoins right now still not profitable.. and its too late if you start mining right now but if you want to mine just for study purposes you can try mining with ethereum if you have a good pc specs and high GPU.. you can try ethereum to mine..

Not true for all so many variables to consider.  A big thing will be electricity price but you still can mine it just is a tighter margin then it was say when asics first came out.  Also new generations of miners help a LOT on keeping profitable for those with electricity cost that is high side of profitable.    For example the S9 is huge jump in efficiency.   So no not everyone will be able to start mining, but there is still opportunity for some.

Ether is kinda another story with GPU people have been able to do it on a higher electricity rate (still cut's into profit though).  But it really is only GPU coin worth mining.  But it is gaining lot's of popularity so I do agree some might look into it.
450  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Im New to this on: June 17, 2016, 04:44:34 PM
you can now start earning a bitcoin by using a bitcoin faucets , and don't forget to rank up your account when you are at least at jr. member rank you are already able to join and participate on signature campaigns and with that you will earn btc . you don't have to ask for donations because you can earn btc by yourself .

yeah faucet really worth for beginner, especially at this price are rising really high. if you worked hard enough doing some faucet, might get a result that is high enough.

Even new faucet's honestly are not worth the amount of time you put in.   Most earn what is considered a dust amount.  What I always say is pennies per hour which is true.   Even if bitcoin doubles, triples, etc when talking about cent's there is just not going to be a lot of value there.

Also faucets you really don't learn anything you are doing capatcha and pasting BTC address in many cases.  So you could do SO many better things with that time that would help long term.  I strongly suggest just avoiding faucets.
451  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: INVEST BITCOIN!!! on: June 17, 2016, 04:40:34 PM
Investing is gambling. Anything involving putting your money into something to get more money is gambling. Ponzis can be profitable if you are the first person to join them, but generally there's so many scams that you'd have to be pretty lucky to stumble upon a new "Legit"(for now) Ponzi that pays. Most of the time, it'll seem like just as you deposit your money into a Ponzi, they take it and run. Trading can be a gamble, but if you're smart and invest wisely or hodl coins, it should work out. There's no good way of investing with bitcoin, because I can guarantee you about 5/6ths of cloudmining operations are scams. If you gotta mine, buy the physical miner. There's a safe way for everything.

Bitcoin mining doesn't make much sense right now unless you have cheap (free) electricity

It all depends can't really make such a big blanket statement.  Yes it's tighter margins then a year ago but many are still able to mine profitable.  Even with having the S9 coming out will let many remain mining profitable where S7 might have not been profitable after having.

And we really don't know what value, difficulty will be after having all speculation.   So S7 hard to say who can mine it after having.  But MANY will still be able to mine with S9 it was just a huge jump in efficiency.

At first you say that you wouldn't make such a broad statement yourself, then start speculating along virtually the same lines. I think I have cheap electricity (the costs I posted earlier), but I wouldn't invest into mining equipment due to operating costs still being high (safety margin being too narrow)...

And since "we really don't know what value, difficulty will be after [the] ha[l]ving"

I meant no offense if that is how you are taking it.  I just mean that we don't know what is "cheap" electricity after having, for example what is cheap enough for a S7 to be profitable after having? We don't know still a lot in air but it's looking positive with BTC value and slow difficulty changes.

You mention right now which is what we do know.  So I think you can run some ROI math and figure what makes sense currently.  In mining we really never know the future for sure that is why it's speculating.  But we do know now and your mining before having so huge in my mind getting extra day's before having if you are going to mine.

So this is why I was not agreeing with "mining mining doesn't make much sense right now".   Many are doing it including me and it does make sense for some.  As far as "free" electricity that is a entire different thing.
452  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Lost my last BTC, bought some more on: June 17, 2016, 04:34:00 PM
I recommend that for cold storage you use a paper wallet.

You can download the code to bitaddress.org at https://github.com/pointbiz/bitaddress.org. Bitaddress is a popular, secure, and trusted generator of paper wallets.

Take the code you downloaded to an offline computer. Then open the bitaddress.org.html file in your web browser. Then generate a new address in the browser and choose the option for a paper wallet. Generate one address and choose the option to BIP38 Encrypt. Enter a password for the encryption. This password will protect the Bitcoin if someone steals the paper wallet. Then you can print out that paper wallet and send your 0.5 BTC to the address listed on that paper wallet. Store the paper wallet in a safe place until you need to access those Bitcoin again.

Also make sure computer is secure as-well is a huge part of making cold storage/paper wallet.   Make sure to have anti-virus/anti-malware and updated and ran.   Depending on your level of comfert you might even install a new OS update it, add the security programs, and wipe it after so you can feel very secure.   When taking the time to do it might make a few paper wallets due to time and that way you have some ready to go and empty if you want another.

I also like to clear cache of printer.   Make sure it is not stored depending on how new/nice of printer some have a cache that stores.   Kinda depends on how much you are storing but I'm always very safe in my mind when I make a paper wallet.
453  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Help. What is Bitcoin mining, and how do I do it? on: June 17, 2016, 04:21:00 PM
Well it is  one way of earning  bitcoin , you can researched on some site that offers mining like hasocean or others that might suits you

Someone is doing a little gorilla marketing I feel with hashocean.  It keeps poping up under Beginner forum and it's not due to it's legitimacy so feel it is a sales push.  If you are going to cloud mine there are a LOT of scams out there I highly suggest just going to Hashnest.

It is trusted with being part of Bitmain, and gives you a fair shot of ROI.    So those who are reading about mining and want to go cloud side really look at Hashnest.   Read about others and you will see how many are scams.  And how Hashnest is "legit" for lack of better term.

Blade 4 seems to have 10x the HW errors   -  Now hashing at 13.444Thz  -- Ambient temp is below 20deg C

(picture above)

Oh  and numnutz2009  your name is Fitting -- Just replace the first  n with a D

Your HW errors are still really low though.   So the even with the 1 with more I don't see it as a amount that causes alarm.   You have a decent test run with over a day.   As far as hardware errors looks fine to me.

On another note Biodom can you add a PSU spot on your spreadsheet?   Would be interested to have that on there.  On one I am testing with you can put down the Bitmain AP3.
455  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: newbie miner on: June 17, 2016, 03:53:26 PM
Hi,i would like to buy bitcoin mining hardware with installation guide.

AntMiner S7 or Avalon6 which one better?

how to join mining pools?

What are you looking for is a big question?  S7 is lower priced so more bang for your buck.  It also needs more power and has more noise.   Avalon 6 is going to have a higher price per hash and more quiet and use less electricity.   I think which is best depends on your situation and what you can handle.  Currently I would go with one that is the best bang for the money which likely is S7 between the two.

But before you jump into mining make sure to do some ROI math with your electricity level.  As S9 came out and blows away past generations on efficiency.  It allows some like me to mine after having still profitable without a doubt. So again all depends on electricity price you  pay.

457  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread june 7 to june 20 -picks are closed!!.... prize = 0.20 btc on: June 17, 2016, 03:43:02 PM
price is increasing but i cant understand , while price increasing , why diff is steady.

even s5 s can be profitable too with that price.

We have gained to around 740's in BTC again so not a huge drop but a little last night.  Could have been a lot worse.   Sadly Ether took a dive to to a hack on DOA - http://www.coindesk.com/dao-attacked-code-issue-leads-60-million-ether-theft .  Price of it - http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/ethereum/

The hack is not fun at all for ether.  Only possible good thing is BTC rise a little possibly if people move a little from Ether to BTC worrying about further drop.

Bitwisdom still looks really good:
Bitcoin Difficulty:    196,061,423,940
Estimated Next Difficulty:    204,447,947,047 (+4.28%)
Adjust time:    After 589 Blocks, About 3.9 days

458  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread june 7 to june 20 -picks are closed!!.... prize = 0.20 btc on: June 17, 2016, 07:16:59 AM
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo I missed the pick.  Sad  I always bet way off anyways lol.  well good luck everyone.  all i can say, is diff is going through the roof soon Smiley

edit:  announce .10btc as the prize, but keep the real amount secret Smiley

That is part of the fun of this I have found is when you guess.  I have never won but still had lot's of fun.  There is SOO much stratagy in some wait till last minute watching... taking chance numbers fill up or missing it.  And there are some throwing random numbers with little thought.  But it's fun to see it all come together.

I'm not so sure on the difficulty going crazy I thought it would have a few month's ago but I was very wrong.  Right now if we get another under 5 before having I would just be thrilled.

Bitwisdom:
Bitcoin Difficulty:    196,061,423,940
Estimated Next Difficulty:    205,038,646,442 (+4.58%)
Adjust time:    After 661 Blocks, About 4.4 days
Hashrate(?):    1,434,006,101 GH/s

Coinbase currently at 776 we still have a chance of getting closer or even crossing 800 this period which would be amazing to see.  We BLEW through 700 which was great.   I feel like no one lost this period with BTC's gain's in value.

I sold off some more btc.  May sell more in a few days.

Yea there definitely is some selling going on we took a decent dive and it is around 720 on coinbase.  So not not fun to drop but still hard to fell bad when it seems we might have a new base at 700.

Quite interesting for those who are still awake to watch it - http://www.coindesk.com/price/ .  Hopefully the dive is done and settled a little guess we will see.
459  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Storing coins on: June 17, 2016, 03:32:31 AM
Probably the best way is on an offline wallet. Be sure to keep you private keys in a safe place and don't lose them or let anyone else have access to them.

I know some think this is overboard but you can get a safety deposit box at banks if your in US for pretty cheap.   And with it being paper you can get a smaller box which again makes it pretty cheap per year.  So it's possible to get bank level security for a cold wallet.

You can even change a character or two on your paper wallet stored that only you know  where even if others see it they don't know what numbers you changed.  (Depends on paper wallet if it has a QR code obviously changing a character in private key  would do nothing).  But lot's of creative ideas out there to keep them safe.
460  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I'm new! I'm serious! I have bitcoins already.... on: June 17, 2016, 03:28:27 AM
Are you looking to create a website that sells a service or product?  Or are you wanting to join a pump group or something?  Its a little confusing to know what your looking for from your description.

I'm just looking for those who are soldiers on the line keeping up with
all the most modern things going on with bitcoin...  As well as opportunities
that are worthwhile...

I think they are asking for details Smiley.  You have to realize it is very vague so far.  So what is club geared to?    Looking at first "I'm looking to get some decent mentors/team/online friends to join as this bitcoin" it is very broad.  To know all things at expert level on bitcoin is hard.

If you find what your looking for like trading, mining, holding, speculating, etc.  I think you will have better luck.  It is a neat idea to get mentors for some new users to help guide the way.  But I think you will need to narrow focus a little.
