441  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: [WTB] An eBay account with great feedback as a seller on: January 12, 2015, 11:30:01 AM
Hi all. I'm looking to purchase a seller's eBay account. I already have a legitimate PayPal and eBay account.. but mine doesn't have any feedbacks.. so.. yeah, not looking for many, just a few positives to get me started!

Thanks.

Why don't you just sell a few low priced items and get some feedback?

Hey everyone,

So Bitmain was very cool about issuing me coupons for the 24 AntMiners that I purchased off of Amazon before the price drop.  I haven't decided if I'm going to use them all, or perhaps just a few…  Still need to get a number of our first delivery up and running.

So that said, I may be interested in either trading or selling a bunch of the coupons -the coupons are good through February 4, and our valued at $45.00.  Just a heads up, you can only use one coupon per S5.

Shoot me a private message if there is any interest in working out a deal on some of these.

Cheers!  Grin

I also bought 2 on Amazon but did not get coupons for those.  What is the procedure for obtaining them?  I could really use them as I'm about to order 4 more direct from Bitmain.

Ditto

I simply sent an email to info @ bitmain - their support email. They asked that I provide feedback on their profile - which I had no issue doing as they shipped my units on time and they arrived early. Then they sent over the coupons. They were quick to respond.

Ok I am lost... anyone have any ideas?

I ordered 30 of these... but they have 4 black wires. The connector has no markings... I have no data sheet. I have no clue which goes to the S5 Red White Black Blue.  Huh

Ordered a S5, paid it, batch 4 which should be sent out on January 12. Price paid: 401 USD.
Now advertised on the Bitmain-site: S5, batch 4, should be sent out 12/1: 358 USD.
So basically, by paying early, I get ripped off by Bitmaintech of 43 US$?

Nice move. Really nice move.
In case you haven't noticed, stores (of all kinds, everywhere) change the price of their products constantly. Why should Bitmain be any different? When did they make any price guarantees?

Is this so? Never noticed this before, thanks for mentioning it.

Amazon is one store that changes their prices... daily. I just bought something x 10 from there yesterday and today the price dropped by US$6.34... that's US$63.4..... Was rather pissed. Should have waited. But then, there was once I waited and the price went up... grrrrrrr~

If that happens and it's a large enough amount to make a fuss - just email support and they will credit the difference. If they don't just order the item again... issue a return for the item you already have, then return the item that comes in (new one) as the old (more expensive one).

I bought an item that dropped $500 between order and 2 day prime delivery.  Did that.

Strato

I had an item in cart at Amazon. Price went up before I bought by quite a bit. I chatted with support and they told me to buy it and then they would change the price when I gave them the order number and before it was charged. I did and they changed the price to the lower price right after I placed the order. Just have to make a bit of a fuss if the amount is large enough. The support girl told me that Amazon has dynamic pricing and prices can change literally minute to minute but often hour to hour.

Yet it's a bit of a pain, and you're right prices to change really fast.

The big surprise for me was two weeks ago I was a Best Buy, and I needed to buy a 128 GB SDHC memory card.  I pulled out my iPhone, use my Amazon App, Scanned the BarCode, and the price difference was over $100.  ($59 vs $159).

Now what I heard, was that Best Buy was now honoring price matching with Amazon...

However I come to find out, and this went all the way up to the store manager, that they would not price match the item, and in their fine print there's a loophole that basically says if the price being compared to is part of a discount membership club program (like Costco), their price match policy doesn't apply.

I tried to explain the manager that Amazon prime doesn't give the buyer better prices just free shipping.

However he was either completely oblivious to how Amazon prime works, or has been told to tell customers that in fact prime membership customers received huge discounts on the products and that if I could show him the same item on Amazon .Com without a Prime logo next to it, that would be the only way they would honor the price.

Very annoying as I needed the card but was at that point so pissed I told them to take a hike.

Brick and Mortar's big box retailers - their days are numbered.

Amazon's drones will be buzzing soon.

Is it ok/safe to run a single unit using 3 cables that have double 6 pins?  8 pin to dual 6 pin.

I was hoping I could run 1 dedicated cable to each blade, then use the 3rd cable and split it between both blades.

The Corsair CM850 only comes with 3 cables.

Thoughts?

I would suggest that the first thing to do is by hearing protectors. Wink

Haha, well we have the replacement fans ready to install. And these will be in a server room kept nice and chilly.

We will be selling off some of our B7 / B8 S3+ units to free up some PSUs.

Perfect condition, housed in Server Room at 64 F (approx) Hepa Air Handler. Clean and Like New.

I apologize if this is off topic but if there is any interest just shoot me a PM.

Strato

I am curious though. If these are in a server room, why tinker with the fans at all? Is there a noise concern in the room? I thought the issue with the S5 fan was strictly noise related.

The server room does have a high noise floor to begin with. But I was concerned these might be over the top db wise.

Strato

Also from what I have noticed with servers is that noise affects the performance of reading from and writing to the mechanical hard drives (SSD's are obviously unaffected by noise vibration as they have no moving parts). The noisier the environment, the slower they get.

BTW, is anyone able to compare the noise to an S4 please? I have an S4 and had to find another location for it. I had my neighbour knocking on my door asking what the hell the noise was and saying that he could not sleep with it (we both are in separate houses and his bedroom is about 50 meters away from my house). I have seen reports of the S4 between 70 and 90 db but not sure how accurate they were. It would be great if someone could do a test using the same metering device at the same distances for testing both.

Interesting Ive never heard that. All system critical drives were upgraded to SSD long ago. The only spinning drives left would be the large raid units, but they're housed in 8 FT Rack Cabinets, and the drives are all enterprise grade.

But yea SSDs are the way to go. I recently upgraded my workstation RAID to 16 Crucial 960 GB SSDs in two groups of 8, each on RAID 0. Im getting 5.50 GB/s read write performance between the two, and 2 GB/s transfers on our 10GBe Dual Network Cards.

Amazing how fast things have gotten.

I know this seems off topic, but just responding to your comments on drives... And thinking how in terms of speed and how fast the technology is getting... Bitcoin seems to be the lone ranger going in the opposite direction.

But perhaps thats the point.

It is for the S5 and a EVGA 1300 G2 though.. Yes, hearing protection is advised.

Im planning on running 2 per 1300 EVGA using the wiring diagram Philip posted in his review thread. Will there be any issues running 2 per 1300?

I also have a handful of 1000w and 850w PSUs

Do you think the Corsair 1200xi Platinum could power two of these?  Expensive PSU, but I have 6 of them.

Strato

You might be better off running 3 S5's off 2 of those 1200w PSU's so not to over max them and gives you a chance to set the freq higher than the default.

Interesting... Can you give insight on how to wire that correctly?

That reminds me, when I changed the fans on my S5's, I noticed these were "tested" in some very dirty conditions, the fans and heat sinks were covered in soot.

Thats pretty crazy. Ive seen S3+ units for sale on ebay that are literally filled with dust.

Our server room is sealed, double door, positive pressure, Hepa Filtered, and chilly. Our servers and miners literally look new even after months. Its not a "pharma" grade dustless environment, but its pretty damn clean.

which replacement fans did you choose to use? I would appreciate a link if you have it. Thanks.

459  Economy / Speculation / A MAJOR Factor Contributing to the Price Crash... Not Yet Addressed on: January 05, 2015, 05:53:55 AM
A major factor contributing to the price crash is that the total BTC Network Hash Rate has spiked nearly 14% in just the past 3 days.

The block time adjustment will not occur for another 7.1 Days. The BTC protocol is designed so that a Block is found every 10 minutes (25 BTC). Well at the current hashrate, a block is being found on average every 8.9 Minutes.

This "over minting" will not be time corrected for another 1132 blocks.

So what it boils down to, is miners, and pools, who mine and dump, are on average flooding the exchanges with (my guess) 14% more BTC sells, or better said selling coins at a 14% faster rate, than if the difficulty and average block time was performing at its intended speed.

So the math for the next 7 Days:

(1132 Blocks x 25 BTC) x 14% = Approx 4000 BTC = Approx $1,000,000 that is surplus or "too soon" within the normal expected timeframe. Basically that figure of 4000 BTC will happen faster than "predicted".

Basically the market has fallen out of equilibrium due to the fact that additional "born too soon" coins are being dumped, and while the numbers are not that outrageous, any type of sell off spikes fear, which leads to panic....

This is why the difficulty is continuing to rise and price is continuing to drop.

The blockchain will reset, times corrected, price will recover.

460  Economy / Speculation / Re: Oh it's far from over... on: January 04, 2015, 06:39:04 AM
This may sound terrible, but I believe that in many ways Bitcoin stands the best chance of both mass adoption as well as utilization in third world economies.

Doesn't sound terrible at all. You may very well be right. In fact, none other than Andreas Antonopolous himself said virtually the same thing:

Bitcoins future lies in the billions of underbanked, not in US retail

Interesting will check that out.  Thanks for the link. It also makes sense as to why Bill Gates is backing it. Hes nearly a full time philanthropist now, Im sure he sees the potential Bitcoin could serve in those underbanked regions of the world.

But then, if this is the case... What is the true value of BTC?  If the value of Bitcoin lies not in retail in the worlds richest nations, rather in micro-payments of the poorest and most isolated populations, where will the value fall?  Most people in the world live on under $2.00 per day.

Need someone with expertise in this area... But if 5 Billion People have X net worth, and changed over to BTC, what would the BTC price be set at market cap wise.
