在互联网上，分布式拒绝服务攻击(DDoS)的威力几乎无人能挡。而今年圣诞节的时候，针对索尼PSN和微软Xbox Live的攻击事件更是导致了两大游戏平台的瘫痪(甚至在事情发生几天后仍未完全恢复)。在13个小时的漫长等待中，PSN的玩家们的耐心也被消磨殆尽。当然，总有对这种事看不下去的，比如Anonymous和Kim Dotcom。然而出乎很多人意料的是，黑客组织(Lizard Squad)这么做，竟然是为了兜售它们的DDoS攻击服务。
简而言之，DDoS就是借助短时间内蜂拥而入的流量，让目标服务器不堪重负直至宕机的行为。而通过分布式的系统(背后往往隐藏着被攻击者所控制的僵尸网络)，就能够更加让被攻击者“没有一点点防备”地躺下。
由于服务器疲于应付被大量伪造的无效请求，真正的用户就几乎很难再与服务器取得连接了——圣诞节当天针对PSN和Xbox Live的攻击就是如此。不过最令人无法接受的是，黑客们这么损人，却是为了利己。
Lizard Squad团队现正在兜售他们的诸多攻击方案，更可怕的是，他们竟然还用比特币来明码标价。
比如，最低只需付出6比特币，“任何一个人”就可以“购买”到发动一起DDoS攻击的“服务”。而如果你把价码加到130比特币的话，甚至可以让DDoS攻击持续一个月(大约20天)。不过最丧心病狂的还是500比特币的不限量DDoS攻击“套餐”。
该团队在接受DailyDot采访时表示，攻击事件是一个“庞大的营销方案”：“在Twitter上‘玩游戏’很有趣，但在金钱面前，其根本不值一提”。
