Hi people,

Please give this new video by Cassius and d13id (voiced by joefox) as wide a distribution over social media and sites you know as possible.

I love the simplicity of it Smiley

I just want to point out that this thread is about Nxt, and not just about one single Asset that one person put out there.

It's up to people whether to buy it or not, or to support it or not.

However, if this thread starts to turn into another debate about the GW issue, I will happily start deleting posts from both sides.

Frankly, I do not care about on which side of the fence people are, and I am going to be indiscriminate about keeping this thread on topic if it gets out of hand.
Experience teaches that this discussion only very seldomly leads to anything constructive, but tends to gravitate towards mindless "yes", "no" and "you're an idiot" comments.
That's sad, but it's apparently how it is.

Feel free to continue the discussion in another thread, and let's get back to Nxt.  Smiley

limited lifespam.

For those unfamiliar, this is the time it takes for spam to become inedible.

Isn't that the same as either infinity or instantanious (depending of which School of Spam you adhere to)?

Can someone from the NXT community help us with updating the wiki page for NXT on coinwik.org. Thanks.

http://coinwik.org/Nextcoin

You could start by removing Nextcoin.

The technology is called Nxt (capital N, small x, small t).
The currency is called: NXT (capital N, X, T)
The network is called Nxt Network.
etc. etc.

He's not asking for people to point the mistakes out from here, but to actually fix them THERE Wink

https://nxtforum.org/general-discussion/nxt-org-fundraiser/

Hi people,

nxt.org has been up an running for some time now, and it's great that this team has stepped up and put a lot of time into it.

They have received 100,000 Nxt from the Nxt Community Fund on 26-04-2014 (tx: 12907357624454235100), but this is basically a minimum amount for the amount of work that has been put in and the ROI it's going to get us.

I want to do a fundraiser to help maintain this site and to get the people that put so much work into it funding.

So, I am putting up a further 100,000 Nxt on a "double up" basis from the Nxt Community Fund!

Any donation up to 100,000 Nxt will be doubled by the community fund. As we all will benefit from nxt.org, I think this is fair: we cannot keep relying on the funds to pay out and not chip in ourselves. So if I receive 100,000 in donations, the total that will be donated towards the nxt.org team will be 200,000 Nxt. If it's 75,000, the total will be 150,000 Nxt. Anything over will not be doubled, but would of course be very welcome!

All donations are welcome, so don't be shy. Your 10 Nxt will become 20, your 100 will become 200. So even if you can only spend a little, it will be extremely appreciated and you will be helping making Nxt better known and helping with the spread of Nxt. Smiley

I have set up a donation account especially for this: NXT-7EKG-H78H-8MR5-DETJY (or numerical 13781908184177488430).

Let's put some money up for an *essential* resource.

Edit: this fundraiser will run for a week: end date is next monday 26-05-2014

Bear in mind that they are going to need some help to integrate NXT with their systems.

What exactly do they need?

Standard procedure is basically to ask them and get them in touch with one of our devs.
I think forkedchain did it last time, but may be wrong.

So, we are just back from Bitcoin2014 and the response to Nxt was simply amazing!

The booth was never empty, nearly always 3-5 people around it.

We talked to people from all walks of life: normal users, crypto collegues (BTC, Ripple), lawyers, Venture Capitalists, developers, oh so many more.

We got so many good response from all present and Nxt definitely is taken seriously by people across the board.

Guys, people are allowed to disagree, you know.
They even may have valid reasons.

Jumping on people who criticise and calling them idiots, FUDsters and haters is counterproductive.

It wastes energy if they are just uninformed: inform them.
It may lose us a chance to fix something when they are right.
When they are trolls: why bother? They will never change their mind, as they just want to pull your plonker.

Being overly sensitive also implies that there is something to be sensitive about.

Let's not turn this thread into a fighting thread. Disagreements are normal.

Concrete example: the distribution issue will keep popping up anyway. Because it's there. Some people will never be comfortable with it. That's their right and prerogative.
Some people do feel comfortable with it, like me. It's an issue that cannot be solved by force without destroying what we have.

This is why the faucet is so ridiculous and I'm glad that it's being looked at.
I was looking at the faucet - there was a guy who used it 10x to register 30 aliases... There was a guy who used it 10x every day to collect some 400 Nxt. In past, threre was a giveaway of 500 Nxt on forums. What happened? One guy created 81 forum and nxt accounts and collected 41.000 Nxt into 1 single account after he gathered 80x500 from the giveaway

Exactly. Faucets don't exist to make people rich, but to send them some coins to play with. I'm confused that Hero fucking Member doesn't understand basics.

Not a completely valid point.
A faucet doesn't exist to make people rich, agreed.
A faucet exists to enable people to test the coin or check it out.

The current faucet does not meet that basic criterium. Being able to do 2 transactions of 1 Nxt is not testing. Worse: it's frustrating and to mé would feel like that someone is trying to sucker me into buying that coin to "enjoy testing it".

Now I knów that we are not trying to do that, but perception is very important, especially in a paranoid field like the crypto community.

So: we're going to try to fix it. Smiley That is álso an important part of the crypto world, and one that I love.

Also: the new faucet system will be less easily drained by sockpuppets, if we do it right. This is because it's based on handing out codes to people, which requires a human factor. That takes work, sure, but the returns in the way of trust and people actually being able to work with Nxt in my view are more than worth it Smiley
452  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: May 03, 2014, 10:20:50 PM
And please don't hold ripple up as some kind of good example. They made 100 Billion of them and the foundation still controls like 90% of them. Nxt distribution gets better every day.

Ripple I feel is a failed experiment but I still think they gave away enough to at least let early users test the system.  If you can point me to where Nxt distribution is "getting better" every day, I'd be glad to see it.

I hope you don't think stakeholders = Nxt.

It is a common mistake. I will not deny this is a problem, although less of one than it used to be.

However, there is NO way to force people to sell, other than asking and pushing.

For me personally, that is something I have no control over, so I don't spend my energy on it anymore. They either sell, or don't. There are also a few bigger stakeholders who DO sell and spend Nxt on project and donate, and these are the good guys. I'd rather focus on those.

As to the faucet: good news! A small group is working on this. I completely agree that the original faucet gives out non-helpful amounts (for exactly the same reason you gave: 2 possible transactions of 1 Nxt). So we're working on a system that will give out a non-trivial amount, to allow people to use or sell it. Whatever they want.

I hope that helps somewhat Smiley
453  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Overstock.com CEO interested in NXT asset exchange! on: May 03, 2014, 08:32:13 PM
All of these networks and technologies have massive potential. As far as "2nd gen's" go, there isn't going to be one which "wins" and others which "loose". Currencies - maybe - but once we're into the realm of things like network services and asset exchanges your talking about sectors which require and accommodate diversity.

This is just the start - there will surely be a growth industry around this type of technology and everyone will have their "Overtstock" moments.

Agreed. I think this is a rare and healthy perspective in the community. At this point, I am doubtful there will ever be a winner-takes-all cryptocurrency. Next generation systems that support external currencies are an interesting space. I love seeing all of the emerging competition, and feel that the new next gen multi-currency systems have a lot to offer here. It is great seeing NXT available on the Ripple network.

I am glad this didn't turn into a Ripple vs. Nxt flame war as I was afraid it might.
Although I also had to snigger when ThePurplePlanet emerged from his time warp. Cheesy

At this point, friendly competition seems a much better idea. Spurring each other along and coming up with multiple solutions to a problem is good, and there is no "winner" or "loser".

It's very very early days yet for ALL 2nd Gens, and there will be pitfalls for us all. I have no doubt about that. Smiley

IRC has its ups and downs, a lot of discussion happens on Skype groups/PM as well as the fora.
Like salsacz said, l8orre would also be a good guy to track down as a first point of contact.

Welcome to decentralisation central, have fun!

I did send L8orre a message yesterday... thanks for the tips.  -bm

Hi, and welcome to Nxt Smiley

l8orre is a good start. He communicates with most other devs and will certainly contact you.

As to getting involved: Nxt is a "jump in" project, so if you propose things and want to work, you will be pretty assured of a good reception Smiley
As has been said: we are decentralised, but not without structure.

The main developer is Jean-Luc and other people you might want to check out are antanst, wesleyh, and jl777. Come-from-Beyond is also worth looking at.

Feel free to yank on our sleeves if you need info. Smiley

Should the forum not be the place to get the community together?
forums are messy and confusing

True. So, you approach 'getting the community together' by deploying a blog-like approach?

This depends on what you would call "the community".

People should be able to connect using different methods.
Some will post on forums (very involved), some will follow the news (medium involvement), some will just use it (smallest level of involvement).

Some people will make applications, some will write stories or hold speeches.

People can and should be able to get involved on the level of involvement that they feel comfortable with.

I myself have, after visiting forums for a long time, taken a leave of over 8 years from all forums, because I was tired with the bickering and negativity that most forums seem to attract periodically. So I would never have joined a forum then.

Likewise, some people never use FB or Twitter, but others love it.

I'd like to cast the net as wide as we can and allow people to contribute on all levels and be appreciated for it. Smiley

Alright, I was number 98.   What exactly does this achieve?  I don't know anything about Thunderclap.
Peace

It will send out one MASSIVE amount of tweets in one go, thereby creating a wave effect. Smiley

Yeah, I know.

I would like to have it the other way round: nxt.org as the primary domain to which everybody redirects to.

To me, it is the natural choice. Shorter = better.

I think it will be like that soon. I understood there will be two sites: http://www.nxt.org for people who are new to Nxt and http://www.nxtcommunity.org to get the community together.

Well, I hope that it will be.

What I do not understand is: Should the forum not be the place to get the community together?

It will be like that once nxt.org is live.

Also: nope, most people don't visit forums. We're the geeks Cheesy
nxt.org is a "portal" for people who just want to use Nxt, but not discuss it. There are more of those than "hardcore" internet users.

But why so much focus on the "nerd" side of Nxt? Is that how new people want to be seen and associated with? As Nxt Nerds?
I think it's a funny part and it surely can be part of the website, but this is to much IMHO.

I ask a friend of mine about it. She likes it.

"It stresses the importance of people and the open community", she said.

The idea is a "tongue-in-cheek" approach, combined with the current fad for being a "nerd".

Also: what do you thing of the functions on the site, for submitting articles and posting jobs?
458  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NHZ - NeXT Horizon Sale and investment opportunity on: May 02, 2014, 08:03:35 PM
5% only for sale, and 95% for bounties, development and building of infrastructure. Nice Smiley

I've seen you guys working since the very beginning and I am very happy to see you keep to the plan and don't go for the big bucks and try to work out something that will be sustainable.

Keeping an eye on this one Nxt clone that seems to try to do their own thing and doesn't give too much of a damn about what other people think.

I like this. Well done, salsacz! Smiley

Hey, Damelon, remove the clients from the OP that are not getting updated for NQT. I have not seen any evidence that NxtSolaris is getting updated. marcus has been inactive for 2 weeks

Done, I was wondering about it myself, but I like Solaris.
I hope marcus will return Sad

Edit: ffs, came back and say farl had already made a new one for me to post Smiley
Still edited Solaris out!
