No, you can't create multiple versions of john.safenet on the network. Someone took that ID already so it's his. Try to register it, you'll see it won't work  Tongue.
I just registered jeff.safenet. The App asks for a service and I just typed in WWW. This will notify the system that it actually is a website. But that's just at registration. That way the software in the background knows that a index.html is expected.

Once you go to your browser they'll use http:// but this is only to support multiple browsers at this time. Later on the Devs will probably release their own Electron browser that only
handles .safenet websites or safe:websites. But right now I can directly go to my website without http:// and WWW. Don't know if that will work for all browsers right now:

ID's are unique, so make sure to register your name when the network is reset and the real network goes live Wink. I expect to have so called "mixed browsing" like we have now.
When you go to cnn.com you're on the normal internet. But when the SAFE Launcher is running (no need to log on) it will serve .safenet websites as well. But here's a safety issue,
trackers from other websites might follow you and see you're at .safenet websites as well. So mixed browsing is easy to use but might give away the fact you're surfing The SAFE Network.

A different approach is to use a specialized browser (just like TOR does) for surfing SAFE. People are already working on it.

'World's oldest startup' launches Internet 2.0

Quote
EVER FANCIED owning an internet domain with your own name? As in john.com, say? Well now you can, and not on the old leaky insecure internet but on a brand spanking new one - the SAFE Network.
You'll have to be quick, though, and if your name is John, David or Nick you may already be out of luck. So what's it all about? We spoke to David Irvine, CEO of MaidSafe, the Scottish firm behind SAFE, and COO Nick Lambert to find out.

So, a new internet, eh? What's wrong with the old one?
David: The problem is data is neither private nor secure. If you taught a computer engineering graduate all about IP networks and computers then said "here are a bunch of cables and routers now go away and design a network where we can all store data and communicate securely", the very last thing they'd do is design a server. The only reason we did it that way is because disk drives were invented before the internet.

So the server's the problem?
David: Yes. We should be focused on securing the data, not the server, and the only way you can really do that is to create some form of network where humans can't interfere, and where a piece of data is never stored on a single machine. By definition that has to be an autonomous network."

No servers? So where is my data stored?
David: When a user stores files on the SAFE Network, the operation appears as uploading, or saving a file to an existing storage provider, such as Dropbox. But SAFE splits the file into chunks and each chunk is then randomised and encrypted and stored at different locations on the network. Unlike the conventional internet, data is always encrypted on SAFE.

You describe yourself as the world's oldest start-up. After 10 years you've only just released a "pre-alpha" minimum viable product and an API. What's taken you so long?
Nick: Removing data centres and servers involves replacing several layers of the internet - transport, session and presentation. Working on such a big project with a small team ... you can start to understand why it has taken us 10 years to get to this point.

Fair enough, so what can I do on the SAFE Network right now using the test application?
Nick: Right now we are testing the SAFE Client on which it is possible for early adopters to create their own credentials and login to the test network to create their own webpage and/or upload a website. The Launcher API is a REST API, so it's language-agnostic and also does not impose any hard dependencies to the core libraries.

So I can develop apps for SAFE Network?
Nick: Yes. MaidSafe will release some example applications (such as messaging and storage) that will showcase network features to end users and serve as tutorials for developers. Longer term we will look to add network-wide computation and we will be looking to partner with companies to add features like search.

What about existing applications? Can they be ported across?
Nick: For typical applications where the functionality exists within the network, such as storage apps or, fairly soon, messaging apps, stored within existing PaaS suppliers like AWS or Google it will be trivial to port the app to SAFE. So you can have apps hosted on both the existing internet and SAFE.

Will I be paid for my app? How can I monetise it?
Nick: App developers will code their safecoin wallet address into their application and based on how much their application is used they are automatically paid by the network in safecoin. Developers keep 100 per cent of the safecoin they earn.

Whoa! Hang on a sec! Safecoin?
Nick: Safecoin is a network cryptocurrency that rewards and incentivises end users for providing their spare computing resources - called farming - while also providing a revenue stream for application developers. As the network becomes more fully featured and safecoin is incorporated into the network it will be required to use services - or apps. The cost of these apps will be down to each developer. Users will obtain safecoin by farming or by purchasing them via an exchange.

So, finally, john.com?
Well, john.safenet anyway. Baggsied it. It's mine (see above - you'll need to spark up the Launcher to view it online though). To be honest there's not much more you can do on SAFE at the minute beyond cybersquatting domains, uploading simple websites (this is a template), storing files and checking out the API and maybe writing a bit of code, as it is still very much in test mode.
But, hey. After 10 years what's a few more months?

And about Safecoin, they use ring signatures if you like.

Safecoin is cryptocoin that doesn't use a blockchain.

Ummmmmmm, how does Safecoin use ring signatures if it doesn't have a blockchain?

From where do the required "random transaction outputs on the blockchain" originate?

Go to their forum will ya. And dive into the tech if you wanna know more. Ring signatures IMO mean several people (groups on SAFE) sign the transaction before a coin goes from person A top person B. SAFE uses a whole different approach than other crypto's. You'll see coins go from person A to person B when a couple of close groups sign the transaction. This means transactions under a second and because only 100 nodes a needed for 1 transaction the network can scale to thousands and thousand of transactions per second overall on the network. Hard to believe probably, but that's the way it's made.

You are a Hero member, yet still must post a disclaimer explaining nobody really knows WTF Maid is.

The New Internet®?  A mirage?  A chimera?  No wonder the pumpers get so defensive when you try to pin down specifics.

This is what I wrote a few pages back about what it is:

It's a P2P-internet where all data is "chunked" and encrypted and everybody stores pieces. All connections between users are encrypted as well so there's a lot of security. You can store data just like on Dropbox but you can also store websites and register a domain like zeeman.safenet which everybody can request using their browser. The network it based on Ants where all Ants have their own role without central organisation. Still though, they help each other out and work together to make sure everybody get's their data.

On BitTorrent you always hope that someone is providing a file as a seeder, on Safenet you'll always have at least 4 seeders (more likely 6) for each MB. And the seeders have an incentive to keep their connection open to make Safecoin. So download an episode of Breaking Bad from years ago and for every GB you'll have about 6000 seeders. The link with Freenet is logical but not right IMO. On Freenet you hope (just like BitTorrent) that there are seeders. In the case of Freenet you hope someone requested a file before you did in the last few weeks and that it's in cache somewhere. If it's not in cache it will be gone. On Safenet once uploaded, a file will be there forever if the uploader didn't took it off. It will be there for years. And again, for every 100MB. you'll see about 600 seeders that have the chunks available. And instead of BitTorrent where you need to provide upload to get downloads, these seeders (Farmers) are paid for by the network.

And about Safecoin, they use ring signatures if you like. Remember, to your close nodes in XOR your just an address. And as one of the users from that 32 nodes group you can't do a thing. You'll always ask for them to do it. So they GET your chunks for you and pass them to you. They decide if you can upload (PUT) a chunk to the network or not. And they sign everything you do. Without about 80% of the group signing a request you can't do anything on the network. And you can't pick your own group or address. It's like a virtual IP-Address that's given to you by a group of nodes.

So Safecoin is cryptocoin that doesn't use a blockchain. You can buy storage on the network with it or use it just as all the other coins to exchange value with people.

Little Update

449  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] IPO of MaidSafe:  Entering the Future of the Decentralized Internet on: March 09, 2016, 09:34:21 AM
Great updates!! Well done team.

Installed and operating very smoothly.

Surprised this is not being discussed more actively on this thread Huh

We can discuss more if you like. I notice we have a lot of people here on Bitcointalk that like the project but don't actively follow it. I do, and I know some others here do as well.
The latest update works quite better and faster than the previous one. David replied about the Vaults saying they're close to get it in people's hands.
The Vault is the place where chunks are stored. So the moment people start to run Vaults at home we truly have a P2P-Network. Maidsafe is building a library (or crate in Rust) for the lowest IP-level. It's called "Crust". It allows different ports and connections over UDP, TCP and uTorrent's uTP. This is what David says about it:

Quote
As @Grizmoblust hinted at this is in crust. If we have tcp and udp hole punch with the ability to auto detect which to use for every connection and on the randomised ports (which we use) it will be a very powerful wee library for a lot of projects. Especially with the anonymous and authenticated encryption built in. This has been a huge hurdle for the project since day 1, which is a shame as it's all based on known industry techniques, maybe not using a DHT as a STUN server (type), but anyway the guys there are doing amazing work.

So this is the true power Open Source has. They've put a lot of time and energy in and it's fully open and ready to use by other projects as well. Fore The SAFE Network this will be a big step. When you run a Vault all chunks in there are obfuscated and encrypted so you support the network by being one of the 6 Vaults that holds a chunk without having a clue what's in there. If you go offline, the others will notice quite fast and they'll find a new place to store. So I'm quite curious to see how this works when we have Vaults in people's hands. I'm quite curious about the speed of the network at that moment as well.

Update: new clients launched

The first iteration of the testnet got wiped out and the clients for the second iteration just got released. You can test The SAFE Network on OSX, Linux and Windows.
Remember this is a testnet only so your data might get wiped out again. Also note that if you surf .safenet websites using your browser, there's still no guaranty that trackers/websites can't follow your path. The SAFE Network is still in test mode so assume it's not that safe yet.

What do you get?

  • Connect to a centralized version of The SAFE Network. Maidsafe provides connections to about 50 little servers that run Vaults.
  • Register your domain using the Decentralized Naming Service (DNS).
  • Upload your own .safenet website to the network.
  • Post the link to your website and share it with others.

Why?

  • This is the first fase where people can connect to a network using SAFE technology.
  • Maidsafe (the company) wants to test how the Vaults behave with test users and how it reacts on nodes go offline at random (churn).

What's next?

  • When the Devs from Maidsafe are satisfied running things centralized, they release new clients where people run Vaults at home.
  • This is the moment where The SAFE Network truly becomes a P2P-network and data is stored and retrieved by nodes in the network.
  • Having a network where people can up- and download websites, register a domain and surf .safesite is the fulfillment of the MVP.

And after that?

  • When the network is up and running it should scale without limits as new users join.
  • A virtual drive/folder to store and retrieve data.
  • The Devs are working on Apps (like messenger) that connect to the launcher using the API.
  • We probably see test-Safecoin to test transactions/Farming. The idea is that people make money running Vaults on the network.
  • When the testfase with Safecoin is over real Safecoin will be implemented. People can exchange Maidsafecoin for Safecoin at the Maidsafe website.

This is all the information from the Dev-updates and the forum. Things might change of course. More info at: The SAFE Network Forum

And as a Vault you don't win the lottery when you have a very populair chunk  Tongue.

thank you. i get it now. though it wasnt the angle i was thinking it was, this direction provides many more possibilities with regards to web hosting services.

so basically you earn more, the more resources you provide to the network on a continual basis. so we're looking at maintaining uptime efficiency, and upgrading resources based on demand for storage and upload capacity.

next question.

will the network be able to host and retrieve information from within databases uploaded to the network? in the instance that we upload a website that relies on storing, retrieving and adding new records to one or multiple sql databases. will this be inherent or something we could see as a feature on safe network in the foreseeable future?

Yes, you earn more when you provide more. But there will probably be an optimum for the size of a Vault. the Devs want everybody to have a chance in farming. So maybe it would be more economic to run several Vaults but same idea. The Vaults will be non-persistent for the biggest part. So when you connect and disconnect all your chunks are gone. So the farmers will run 24/7 Vaults when they want to be most economic.

David Irvine (founder of Maidsafe) thinks SQL isn't the smartest thing to do in SAFE. The network uses 512-bit addresses where you have the option to create "immutable data" like a picture, or "structured data" like a reply on a forum which you can change when you made a typo. And with 512-bit addresses the number of chunks/datafields is actually unlimited. So you pick a random address, pay to become the owner of that address and upload whatever you want. You can make it public, private, immutable, structured. Just whatever you like. The Devs have provided a "Safe Launcher" which allows Apps to use SAFE without knowing your details. There will be an App-environment as well, so you log on to SAFE and see your Apps show up. Devs can build whatever they want with this system without SQL. Someone is building a (protocol for) Forum. Here's the link.
Feel free to join the forum. Lot of these questions are answered there.
452  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] IPO of MaidSafe:  Entering the Future of the Decentralized Internet on: March 02, 2016, 03:05:19 PM

this is just my opinion, but i think because of the enhanced security and redundancy maidnet could be more expensive than google. companies pay good money to secure their data and keep data backups.

but back to the original post,

ok so i pay the network to upload data and the users that actually host my data get paid in safecoins. but then i can download from the network free of charge? so i can access the data i uploaded repeatedly over the course of a year at no extra cost?

Maidnet  +1  Grin it's confusing, but Maidsafe is the company and The SAFE Network is the name of the network. but I'll use both Safenet and SAFE and whatever  Grin.

Companies and forums use security walls when you try to get in. So passwords etc. Safenet works different, they say; "servers can't be safe, so let's secure the data instead of the servers". So chunks of data are encrypted and decrypted locally on your machine only. That's where the security comes from. So they don't have to hire big datacentre's, and security teams to protect against DDoS attacks etc. The networks uses P2P to spread all the data over the network and because it's all encrypted it's already safe. No DDoS possible as well. The only thing you could do is DDoS one or 2 nodes in the network but you don't have a clue where all these nodes that form groups are in XOR. So you can't target a node, a group of nodes or pieces of data.

They use "MIO" to speed up the nodes locally so nodes can handle over 60.000 messages a second. So extra encyption layers and all these messages that are crypto signed shouldn't be a problem when it comes to speed. But we'll have to see what happens when we have a couple of thousand Vaults at peoples homes.

Yes, you can download for free, that's the idea. Maybe they make a change to that, but they want people to use Safenet, that's why. And when you pay some Safecoin to store a file, you are not paying to the ones that's storing the chunks. You actually "burn" Safecoin so the addresses of the safecoin become free again. People that deliver data to the network get payed when they deliver a chunk from their Vault and the random Safecoin address that's picked by the close nodes  is free. So safecoins are recycled in a way. And when a file becomes populair nodes will deliver it from cache instead from a Vault so nobody makes money on it. All nodes in the network cache up to an x-number of chunks that come by. So when you request a chunk, and it's 5 HOPS away, the Vault makes money once. But because these 5 HOPS have cached that chunk now, when you request it again, or somebody close to you, it's delivered from cache from one of these HOPS. So data becomes faster when more people download it. And as a Vault you don't win the lottery when you have a very populair chunk  Tongue.

is it possible to have maidsafe network in such a way that storage space, cpu power and bandwidth can be rented?

e.g. i want to upload 1tb of data to maidsafe network for safe keeping. so i should pay a daily rate per mb of storage on the network.

e.g. i want to rent some cpu power from maidsafe network, or bandwidth to do some ddos testing. i should pay in safecoins for the use of these services. based on how much resources id like to use and for how long i want to use them.

or is it going to be strictly about accessing content? meaning i can store 1tb of data indefinitely for free as long as i dont access it. just upload and it is stored for the next 10 years let's say until i access it then i pay a few safe coins for downloading? i ask because if theres no rent cost a user can host say 20 tb of maidsafe data for users for years but gain no income because those users just uploaded and dont download or access their uploads.

as a service provider aiming to maintain a 24/7 uptime, how will i mitigate my running costs if users dont access their uploaded content hosted at my node?

No, not rented. You pay to upload data, say a picture of your dog only once. And it will be there forever. If it's 3 mb. it's chunked into 3 pieces, each chunk it stored by 6 Vaults. So 18 Vaults will hold your data.
When one goes offline, the group notice and find another Vault to store your chunk. When you store "structured data" that is data that you can change, you'll pay some more. But same idea, pay once and it will be there forever unless you take it off.

There is talk of getting Safecoin to do calculations using your CPU. But this will take time, first they want the network up and running.

You can acces your data as many times as you want. Even if you upload a Hollywood blockbuster movie public to everyone, you pay once and everybody can watch it for free forever. When data becomes populair there's a bigger chance the chunks are in cache as well next to the nodes that have it in a Vault. So data becomes faster when more people request it.

Chunks are spread over the Vaults depending one XOR-Address (who is closest to the hash of the chunk in XOR) so you could see it as random due to the structure of the addresses on the network. So when you offer 1 TB. you'll might see your Vault filling up with over 1 million chunks of data. You hope as a farmer that some of these chunks are requested so you make some money. If you don't make enough money, you might put down your Vault and when enough people do this, the network notice it's running out of space so the reward for every MB. delivered to the network will go up. And in that reward is all your cost, from storage to bandwidth to whatever. Otherwise, why would you run a Vault and store data for the network?? Maybe some people will just to support the network, so I think we'll see very low prices to store data on the network. Will be way below google drive and other is my expectation.

454  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] IPO of MaidSafe:  Entering the Future of the Decentralized Internet on: March 02, 2016, 10:56:32 AM

That's just a tiny bit too complex and convoluted to pass the smell test.  Actually it reeks of Rube Goldberg over-engineering.
Remember how the elegant simplicity of BitTorrent's tit-for-tat beat the layers of Gnutella cruft, and how TOR's onion routing (and i2p's garlic routing) won the race between private internets-within-the-internet?
I don't see that kind of breakthrough here.  If you can't explain it without sounding like jl777 explaining SuperNet, there's a problem.
I can describe the basic ideas of Bittorrent and TOR to my mom and dad.  Maidsafe?  Not a chance.  The best I could do is "Maid is like Freenet, except you have to pay to upload and without the 10 years of proven security."
For a science fair project, Maid has been in development far longer than comparable experimental software, many of which are based on Bitcoin blockchain tech and already in production.
EG: https://zeronet.io/ (thanks https://torrentfreak.com/play-p2p-impossible-shutdown-160301/).
Sorry, still not clear on how Safecoins can be anonymous+private+unlinkable without using ring signatures.
So users are required to pay in order to store data.  That sounds like SIA and Storj.
There are persistent rumors Maid has some unique value/selling proposition, but it continues to elude me (and not for lack of searching).

I really have no problem explaining it to friends and family. It's a P2P-internet where all data is "chunked" and encrypted and everybody stores pieces. All connections between users are encrypted as well so there's a lot of security. You can store data just like on Dropbox but you can also store websites and register a domain like zeeman.safenet which everybody can request user their browser.

But if you want more info you might want to join the forum. Lot of discussions about the questions you have. I had them as well some time ago, but I jumped in and I think it can be done what they say. Although we need to see proof over the coming months when people run Vaults from home. My expectation is that even without Safecoin the network works. Just like nobody got payed to run BitTorrent and seed some files.

MaidSafe Dev Update 1st March 2016

Follow the proces on GitHub/Maidsafe.

Quote
So, first update post test network, SAFE Launcher and SAFE Demo App release and to say it has been a whirlwind would be quite an understatement - the response has been amazing! Since Friday the testnet has seen:

Total downloads of SAFE Launcher from Github directly: 1126
Total client sessions: 8119 (includes registered and unregistered clients)
Total get requests made: 350842

We’ve had a lot of very useful feedback and for that we are grateful to everyone that has taken time to provide it. Apologies for not acknowledging everyone yet, it’s great that we have such an engaged community, we are currently collating the feedback and are using it to help shape the next iterations to be released.

Work has begun to improve the logging framework of the test networks during these rolling release phases; this will provide the team with even more useful data to analyse. We will be collecting data and sharing it - only during the test phase - the full list of what we are planning on collecting has yet to be finalised. For full transparency we shall outline this very clearly before every roll-out; if you have privacy concerns it may be better waiting until this phase has been completed.

Have they commented on when actual farming may begin?

What's the release schedule for coin rewards when this happens?

Depends on what "sprint" they'll do next. This sprint is called Rust-5. It will give us a network and the MVP. Next they might do a stabilization sprint when needed. That could take a few weeks. And after that they might jump into Safecoin. This is what they said for the lost couple of months. There's no "official launch" for The SAFE Network. Rather they launch in parts where a stable network is 1 and Safecoin is 2. They said that things become easier when the network is stable and operational. I would check the Dev-Updates on this. The network itself changes coin rewards. I think the idea is that you put up 1 Safecoin in your account and get an x-amount of storage for that. Say 1GB. When you PUT data to the network you loose some of that Safecoin. The address of the Safecoin becomes free again. As a Farmer you make some Safecoin when you provide chunks to the network. But this is not a fixed price. When a a lot of people Farm the reward goes down. When less people Farm the price goes up. So the network balances itself making always sure there's enough space. They talked about test-Safecoin where we can test this whole proces.

Not impressed yet much to prove on the scalability... and has anyone tried DDoS the network yet? I bet it will completely freeze

I think it will either, not so weird because right now it's a centralized system running on about 100 droplets. This is the only "lab test" they can do where they own/see all the nodes in the network. They can't figure out who made what account but they can see chunks pass by and get added to certain Vaults etc. Coming week they will do testing on it by taking nodes offline at random. That way they see how the network behaves. The next step (they say in coming weeks) is to move from centralized to decentralized where people run their Vaults at home. That's when we really can see how this thing scales.

Should see some speedups in the coming weeks. Very curious to see what the speed is when people run Vaults at home and we truly become decentralized.

There's no blockchain so the only thing left is something called "ownership". It's ownership of a 512-bit address. When you own Safecoin you actually own an address. And to change ownership from 1 person to the other, you sign a message getting rid of your coin and sign it over to another address. Your close group in XOR will confirm if you indeed are the owner. So they sign it as well, next to some other groups (I think about 100 nodes in total). So now the next node (or no node) owns that address. It has some groups signed it. The security comes from the fact that in XOR your close nodes don't know your IP-address. Only your relay-node does. But your relay-node just connects you to a group in XOR. You connect to the group using PKI so your relay-node knows your IP but not what you do in XOR. So when a group looks at a Safecoin address all they see is it was owned by "JfgjvkjVTFkgkhgfHTFHKGFkhgfk" and is now owned by "VVYTrytFtGHJVJHKJhjHJHJHJHJHJH".

If there's no blockchain what does the PoW/PoS do?  Just ~randomize distribution?

If there's no blockchain, how is this an altcoin and not a separate project like i2p/TOR/Freenet?

What prevents Sybil attacks by forming honeypot groups?

This is an alt-coin. The Maidsafecoin can be changed to Safecoin when Safecoin goes live on the network. So you send you Maidsafecoin to an addres to burn, and Maidsafe (the company) will give you Safecoin on the system. So now we have 500 milj. Safecoin, what's next??

Well, as explained by @jibble Safecoins are created when someone delivers requested data out of his Vault to the network. So user A does a request for a Chunk ( a GET) and the Vault that holds the chunks will get that request (actually it's close nodes get the request). So when that node delivers that chunk (again, through it's close nodes) a Farming Request is done. So the close nodes will pick a random Safecoin address and when it's not owned, they sign it to the node that stored the Chunks and provided it to the network (to user A). And when 50% of all Safecoins are farmed (will take a very long time) half of all the Farming requests will fail because the address is already owned by a user.

Surfing/downloading data will probably be free on the network. But when you want to upload (PUT) data you ask your close nodes to do it for you. They say; okay, we will, but first you need to buy space using Safecoin. So you remove some ownership of Safecoin (the address that is) and that address (Safecoin) is now free to be farmed by a Farmer when his nodes pick this address at random. The address was owned but got free because someone uploaded data to the network. So Safecoins are recycled in a way an can only be created when people Farm (deliver data to the network). No POW or POS is needed. Well, the "proof of work" is that you got a request for a chunk out of your Vault and you delivered it to the network. Your group of close nodes (again, you can't pick your own group in XOR) will make sure you can't threat.

Read this topic to understand how you join the network and go from IP-level to XOR. It's quite magic if you ask me.

Is there a another thread for SafeCoin?

How are SafeCoins made safe and anonymous?

Ring signatures?  CoinJoin?  Something new?
i will try to explain

They are on the network and exist , the only data field is who owns it, cryptographically secured , having to reach consensus and cryptographic proof to change ownership , this because it isn't actually transferred anywhere, the coins are always in the same place, you only need to change the ownership field with 1 line of code, allow for instant transactions , from what i read , i think it requires more than 1 group of nodes to come to consensus to change ownership, so not only 1 group of 28 out of 32 agreeing , but 4-6 different groups of nodes all coming to consensus and agreeing which should be possible to happen in milliseconds usually. This also means that if someone was somehow able to control a single group of nodes they are unable to do anything dangerous or damaging to the system just sort of temporarily troll it, this is infinitely harder to do as the network gets larger.

OK, I get there's a quorum system.  But in what framework of cryptographic primitives does that quorum system operate?

Is their a Bitcoin-style blockchain or Cryptonite-style mini-blockchain?  How is the taint from previous coin owners obscured or removed?

You can't choose your own XOR-Address. I think that's the key to answer your question. You join the network on IP-Level and connect on IP-Level. But to get "in XOR" you need a group to take you up. They all use public and private keys.
