441  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So Who Owed Satoshi Money? on: January 08, 2024, 07:09:41 PM
I just saw a video on YouTube regarding this and wondered why I didn't see any thread on BitcoinTalk. There you go. Whoever did it, thank you for dumping those coins. Or could it be Satoshi or his closest person? I cannot imagine Satoshi or his closest persons will ever use centralized exchanges.

Here is the link to the transaction; https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/transaction/d7db4f96a4059c8906b953677ce533493d7b9da0f854a21b99f5772910dd0a31
442  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do we even need bitcoin mixers? on: January 08, 2024, 11:33:16 AM
What do i miss?

It's not like Bitcoin Mixers are too necessary for privacy. We can increase privacy following the methods you have shared. But, that's too much task to do. While Mixers take a few clicks only. When you could do it with a few clicks, why do you have to do that many transactions as an alternative? Mixers are banned in this forum, but they are still online. They are banned here does not mean we cannot use them.

Whoever used the mixers before and loved the idea will keep using them. Most of the forum users do not have dirty money to clean. I don't think forum users use Bitcoin mixers too much. The mixers do not expect huge traffic from the forum. They were here to build a reputation, so they could get trust from their users.
443  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Huge Russian mining center in Ethiopia on: January 08, 2024, 11:24:06 AM
Another factor could be the political climate in Russia and maybe the uncertainty towards crypto adoption. Russia is the kind of country that wakes up and bans whatever they want.

This could be the main reason. This makes much more sense. I know some Russian friends who don't like to be there and want to move to another country. But they couldn't. One of the main reasons is, that they have to abandon their house and the money they have. They said that they won't be able to keep their money with them. I don't know why it's too difficult when we have cryptocurrency. Some people live in Russia, but they don't like to be there.

A company may want to avoid any kind of possible future problems like a Mining ban, crypto ban, or Bitcoin ban. But I guess they have to pay fees as well for investing outside of the country.

445  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BPIP] Bitcointalk Public Information Project [Back in Action] on: January 08, 2024, 10:41:47 AM
What do you mean?
I am seeing that the data was updated on 1/7/2024 12:51:40 PM, probably some time after Theymos announced the DT1 changes - https://bpip.org/TrustLog.

As it stands, you are on DT2 and that's what the browser extension is showing right now
Suchmoon knows what I mean  Grin
Even though you see that the data was updated on 1/7/2024 at 12:51:40 PM, BPIP was showing incorrect data till yesterday, and maybe they fixed it right before you checked it. It's not only me who has found it out. I never knew I was in the DT network until yesterday when LoyceV mentioned my username on one of his threads. I have posted my confusion there and he responded too saying BPIP is wrong. Nice to see everything fixed now.
446  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BPIP] Bitcointalk Public Information Project [Back in Action] on: January 07, 2024, 02:37:16 AM
suchmoon, I am looking for your attention. BPIP has been showing wrong data about DT for the last week. It would be great if you take a look. theymos reshuffled the DT1 list on the first of January, but the BPIP website and the browser extension still show the previous month's data. Yesterday, I noticed that I am on the DT network for the first time, but I cannot see it myself which is not very good for me. I felt too excited when I noticed that. Even though this is just for one month  Smiley
447  Other / Meta / Re: Moderator application for Polish local board on: January 07, 2024, 02:29:47 AM
Good report is the key factor as it is the only way to judge how good you are reporting them and how good you would be as a mod to handle those cases.
I think it was a Global Mod who said it's been a very long time since a new Mod was appointed based on the reports he submitted.

I don't remember that. But, I guess I have seen somewhere you or someone else quoted, and the phrase was similar like "You should not ask to be a moderator" is the first condition to be a moderator. Maybe other criteria were posted by theymos several times in several threads.

Anyway, I guess this part is the most important and wwzsocki may want to keep it in mind;

If a poll is created, I will not completely ignore the results, but I will also not use it as a primary influence. I'm more interested in arguments people have for or against certain candidates.

Good luck with your application Smiley
448  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Huge Russian mining center in Ethiopia on: January 07, 2024, 02:20:37 AM
In Russia, huge amounts of electricity are sold to China at very cheap prices, and a Russian company is building a data center in Ethiopia, where the civil war recently ended but the situation there is very difficult. In this data center, you can install 120,000 ASICs of 3.3 Kilowatt each, which will be a big investment.

If electricity is too cheap in Russia, what could be another reason that Russian companies building mining centers outside? Building a company outside of your own country is kind of expensive. As you mentioned, the civil war ended recently and the situation is difficult as well. Still, that company decided to invest there. I see two possible reasons why they are investing there. One, they are just trying to help Ethiopia unconditionally and the government will help those companies who will invest in their country. Two, Possibly that company is trying to escape VAT tax. I have heard that it's tough to move your money out of Russia.
449  Other / Meta / Re: Complete overview of users on DT1 and DT2 and their ratings on: January 06, 2024, 10:01:28 AM
   585. 3506304: Learn Bitcoin (Trust: +2 / =2 / -0) (649 Merit earned) (Trust list) (BPIP)

I got a notification now but I am confused. Since you have listed me there, I guess I am a DT2 member for now but, I don't see the changes on BPIP.org for some reason. I am figuring out how it could be possible because I see two DT1 members distrust me but they are not on DT1 according to your last update. But, BPIP extensions show they are DT1 members. 1miau was selected as DT1 this month which is the only DT1 inclusion I have. But, the BPIP extension shows he is DT2. So, It's confirmed that BPIP showing incorrect data for now. BTW, I didn't notice the 2nd neutral feedback on my profile till now. But, I have to check now.
450  Other / Meta / Re: 4 Same Topic in Gambling Discussion section on: January 06, 2024, 08:12:06 AM
Well, if we cannot find the difference, maybe this is the reason we are general users and they are moderators. If a thread has been active for years, I am sure moderators have seen those threads. I remember creating a cricket discussion thread right before the Cricket World Cup or Asia Cup but then it was deleted because there was another thread already. It happened within a few minutes. That means moderators aren't inactive.

Even though I am not a big fan of Football leagues, I have joined two prediction pools (One is sponsored by Sportsbet, and the other one is sponsored by Rollbit). But, I am not active on those discussion threads for obvious reasons. As I said, I am not a big fan of Football. So, If I join the discussion, you cannot expect me to write anything good except spam.

Several members already pointed out that those threads have purposes and they aren't the same type of Topic even though the Genre is the same.
451  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Huge Russian mining center in Ethiopia on: January 06, 2024, 04:20:30 AM
What do you think about big companies making huge mining centers? And what about when those companies make it in other countries?
If they are licensed companies, there is nothing wrong with starting a business in a different country. There are too many factors that depend on such as electricity cost, manpower cost, and legality. Let's say mining is not allowed in my country, I can start a business in my neighbor country or another country if I want. If my company is licensed and I pay the taxes, there is nothing wrong.

Quote
I've just read something and this came to my mind. Because as we know, as more miners we have, less the payment we receive.

The mining difficulties have been increasing for years and it will grow further as more miners add to the network. Solo mining is not recommended for independent miners unless they have a bigger hash rate. It become impossible for a solo miner to find a block these days.
452  Other / Meta / Re: Moderator application for Polish local board on: January 06, 2024, 03:27:08 AM
I don't remember where I read it, But I guess I have seen such words like What is the qualification for moderator and there was an answer like You should not ask to be a moderator. I would like to call our AI LoyceV for that because he remembers almost 99% of the writings that theymos wrote regarding these matters. Good report is the key factor as it is the only way to judge how good you are reporting them and how good you would be as a mod to handle those cases.

To be a moderator, your report stats and your contribution to the forum should be enough. I don't know if community support matters or not. But if it matters, then I support your application even though I am not your local. You have been there for a long time and you are a experienced campaigner.
453  Other / Meta / Re: Why was the gambling risk warning removed? on: January 06, 2024, 03:14:48 AM
Unless theymos was experimenting with something I don't believe there's ever been a warning there other than in Investor-based games.

Or it is possible that Op was talking about the warning of some gambling thread where the thread creators are scammers and their flag has enough support which might be the reason for a red warning. But, I guess OP spends enough time on the forum to understand this is the warning for newbies and it disappears after a certain period.

I also do not remember seeing any warnings other than those mentioned warnings on this thread. It would be helpful if shared more information about what he was talking about.
454  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Relationship between charts and follow up 📊 on: January 06, 2024, 02:55:53 AM
---

Nice to see that you are engaging in this thread and still replying to the people. Usually, people generate these shits with AI and then leave it. I don't know what is your goal, but let me say that you are on the wrong path. Most of us will criticize you for using this AI shit but you are unlikely to get some good suggestions. But, I would like to advise you to refrain from doing such a thing. You somehow managed to convince me because I haven't seen any newbies come back to their thread and read what others are saying about his writings. I was supposed to leave you neutral feedback because of your actions. But, I would like to give you some good advice instead. I hope you will hear me Smiley
455  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mempool Observer Topic on: January 05, 2024, 02:49:44 PM
yet nothing has been done by the so called Bitcoin developers because I believe the issue has been deliberated and an open discussion has going on for these said developers to actually come up with a way to actually trash the issue at core point.

Did you just insult Bitcoin developers?  Roll Eyes
Who has constantly been developing the entire network for decades? As you may know, a single developer or a small group of developers cannot make a change if they want. All they can do is propose the development, and most others have to agree with that idea. That's all I know about it. If I am not wrong, Moderator achow101 is one of the developers who have been working for Bitcoin for a while now. I don't criticize what I do not understand. Developers aren't so called.
456  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Receive Merit - Post your PGP key, add an encrypted message, open for anyone. on: January 05, 2024, 02:10:17 PM
I think that this encryption message will help many newbie to learn, I could remember that ognasty has done this kind of thing before and I know that learning the encryption will not be hard if you understand it properly but the is that is an educative post that will make many people who has not come across ognasty signing messages and encryption messages thread to have the knowledge.

The thread you were talking about is a different type of encryption. OgNasty's thread is about signing messages from your Bitcoin wallet address. But this thread is all about PGP and BitcoinGirl.Club rewarding merits to users who share their PGP public key and send an encrypted message. You can follow any of these tutorials if you are looking for a PGP tutorial to learn how it works.

Here are some tutorials that I wrote, and another one has been reposted;

Good luck with that.
457  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: IMPORTANT! Always check your Seed twice. on: January 05, 2024, 01:56:32 PM
I haven't faced such an issue, and I know many of you will say that you haven't had such an issue in your entire crypto life. There are some reasons behind it; maybe you were too careful with the seed phrase. There could be another reason, but it would be terrible to be true. Perhaps you have taken snapshots of your seed phrases or copied and pasted them digitally, which is not recommended.

I am saying this because I am the one who used to do these stupid things, and I believe I have a lot of friends like this who do the same thing. FYI, I stopped it doing it. Even though this is not any kind of guide, but it was a good reminder for everyone.
458  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mempool Observer Topic on: January 05, 2024, 09:17:36 AM
No, they're not dumb, they're most likely bad actors trying to raise fees permanently. Wink

Jokes aside, I didn't find any logical reason to increase the fee more and more when the recommended fee is way lower than what they have spent. I thought they were average Joe who did not understand the system and they kept bumping their fee until their transaction got included in a block. But, if they are real average Joe who does not understand when they should increase the fee when they don't need it, how do they know that there is an option to increase the fee which boosts up the transaction fee? Or maybe because sometimes it takes a long time to find the next block and they might think their transaction is stuck because of the fee? But the reality is; that their fee was enough already but the next block wasn't found yet.
459  Local / Other languages/locations / Re: বাংলা (Bengali) on: January 04, 2024, 09:23:00 AM

460  Other / Meta / Re: Decentralize Bitcointalk on: January 04, 2024, 09:11:05 AM
It is extremely ironic. I find it surprising (and not) that no one came to put him in line, especially since so many other members have been quick to do that to others in sometimes unnecessary circumstances in the past.

Nature will teach him the lessons that he needs to learn anyway. At least the true colors have been shown by that user Wink

Look, we are in an internet forum and don't know each other personally. Our texts represent who we are. Someone could be a very good person in real life, but due to some misunderstanding, the community may think he is a terrible person. So, we should be careful with our screen and think about what we writing. Someone might have a different point of view. But, they should not insult others until their opinion is very unpopular or harms others.

I was surprised how he reacted to OP's post even though there was nothing offensive in the OP. He just called out OP as Joker, and then he also reacted to your post when you said "Shame on you". If you cannot take criticism, you are unlikely to learn. I would suggest he should recognize that he is a human being and he might make some mistakes, too.
