441  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Bitcoin will conquer fiat the same way fiat conquered trade by barter. on: February 16, 2024, 06:42:14 PM
Bitcoin is existing as an alternative and not as a substitute. You can see how naira is dominating in spending in Nigeria. It would be good if it continues like that. I mean for fiat ro continue to be relevant in the society. Because the fiat is depreciating in value is one of the reasons people are holding bitcoin.

This is something that a lot of people still don't get to understand. The idea that Bitcoin in the future will somehow overcome or take the place of fiat in the future is a fallacy in fact it is almost impossible.
From the idea of the creation of Bitcoin just like Charles-Tim mentioned, it was intended as a better alternative over fiat  and not a replacement. Bitcoin was Satoshi's dream of a currency totally controlled by its users and not a single entity ( DECENTRALIZATION) , coupled with the sought for a currency that was inflation free( HALVING) .
Bitcoin will "always" be a better alternative over fiat but will "never" replace Fiat.
442  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If a addict lives within, which method would you choose to help them on: February 16, 2024, 06:12:23 PM
It may seem like there are a lot of very easy ways to go about helping gambling addicts but the truth is it is not as easy as we sometimes see it especially in cases where the addict in question is too much of a core one. However I believe the best way to go about it is to show them love and compassion. Like I said earlier the reason why pulling an addict out of addiction using compassion is difficult is because you have to be kind to them irrespective of the emotional stress and pain they have put you through as a family member and definitely as humana , sharing love when we are hurting is something that I would classify as Divine.
Addicts cause alot of emotional hurt to family members and the biggest problem is they most times don't realize it until it is far too late.
443  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Most challenges faced by gamblers on online casino platforms? on: February 16, 2024, 06:00:51 PM
Of course sometimes gamblers can face some issues when they carry out some gambling activities on some online casinos. This can usually be due to the fact that the casino was probably a scam one which is a common scenario these days . This is not to say that any time someone faces a number of these challenges they should end up concluding that the casino is an obvious scam because sometimes the gambler himself may be at fault.
Sometimes Due to over excitement and other factors, gamblers usually skip most of the license, text and agreement stuff and sometimes vital information can be embedding in those articles which would prevent them from having such issues.
444  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you gamble because you don't have sufficient money? on: February 16, 2024, 05:52:18 PM
No it isn't supposed to be so. Sometimes when gamblers are kindof broke or low on cash they can usually be filled with the urge of wanting to place a few bets so they could can like have some cash to spend. Sometimes it can turn out rosy and when they place the bet luckily for them they can win and they get off that broke state.
The fact that it sometimes happens that when you place a bet during your cash down situations you get wins doesn't mean you should rely on gambling activities anytime you go broke. As it can make the gambler lose focus on his actual job and even deviate to spend extra time to gamble just to earn more.
445  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Post quality matters than replying fast on: February 15, 2024, 09:20:34 PM
Firstly Op what is your definition of a quality reply?
Because if you are trying to say a long reply is a quality one you are wrong.  I have come across a lot of forum members with very quality posts of less the 3 lines.

Now from my experience if you don't read a post properly you can't make the right reply hence other posters will simply ignore your reply and if someone is kind enough they may explain to you your mistakes and if you should continue same habit they would simply consider you a shit poster.

It is also important to note op that most members may not consider your post as an advice because in order to give someone a nice advice to follow, courtesy demands you make a good example first.
446  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling addiction causes loss on: February 14, 2024, 09:56:16 PM
Gambling addiction could be as a result of multiple consecutive losses that were improperly managed by the gambler. Now like I always say addicts lose too often than they win that's why people tag them addicts. Most of the time the losses gambling addicts suffer are also extended to their loved ones and family often  killing their relationship with them.
Arguably Alot of people will definitely not see a successful gambler as an addict because he is actually making more wins than loses which indirectly affects the financial status of the persons close to them. Now some people make the mistake of staking over and over again when they lose with the aim of trying to get their money back.buy unfortunately it doesn't work that way and they end up losing even more than they expected at the end of the day.
447  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What contributes to a casual gambler becoming an addicted gambler? on: February 14, 2024, 09:49:07 PM
Now if you observe closely approximately all gambling addicts today never wanted to be addicts but actually turned out being one due to certain factors they failed to take seriously. Now one thing most fail to take seriously is discipline. As a gambler one should have a level of discipline that would help guide the gambler on when to and when not to indulge in gambling activities. The better the level of discipline of a gambler the more responsible his gambling habits.
Another thing they fail to manage is priority. When one misplaces his priorities they could also end up being addicts. Since gambling is a fun activity then logically the priority a gambler should give to gambling should also be similar to that he allocates for fun activities.
448  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: gambling for fun vs gambling for the financial benefit. on: February 14, 2024, 09:42:11 PM
Gambling is supposed to be a game of fun but unfortunately a lot of persons take it to be a source of finance which is logically wrong. Yes gambling arguably can be tempting to be a source of income especially when you tend to make multiple wins consecutively which could make one feel the need to take more days off work since you have become richer at an easier pace. The core reason people should not take gambling as a financial source is because people tend to be very serious when it comes to their finance which of course us their main income source.
Now if gambling becomes a source of income you will tend to gamble more so logically you could win more and most of the time this could end badly and even lead to a nasty addiction in some cases.
449  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If a addict lives within, which method would you choose to help them on: February 14, 2024, 09:35:13 PM
Living with a gambling addict can be frustrating however a lot of persons actually make the mistake of being hard on them and trying to isolate themselves from them. However it isn't supposed to be so. Of course addiction is a bad thing but love and compassion overtime helps gambling addicts get over their addictions.

It can also be very challenging to try to draw an addict close to yourself but trust me it is the best thing to do as pushing them away makes them feel more lonely and having reasons to gamble more often than normal which not good for their wellbeing.

453  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to import wallet from electrum to bitcoin core? on: February 13, 2024, 02:02:52 PM
It is simply an HD wallet that's why you can see multiple private keys. If you wish to import just one you may end up only splitting the funds .

Since you want just one private key, create a new single chain wallet wallet on Bitcoin core and sweep the funds from the HD wallet there. However if you want all the transactions recorded on the Bitcoin core, you will have to import all the private keys as an HD wallet.
454  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to import wallet from electrum to bitcoin core? on: February 13, 2024, 01:54:47 PM
It depends on the wallet you are importing.
If it is an HD wallet you will have to also important it as an HD wallet. If it is a single chain one you will have to move it as a single chain wallet.

If you are having big time difficulties importing the wallet you can also consider sweeping the funds from the electrum wallet to the Bitcoin core wallet. You can do this by creating a wallet of your choice on Bitcoin core then moving the funds from electrum to the Bitcoin core wallet.

It is also probably not working because you are using an older version of core with a guide make for a later version. Kindly update your Bitcoin core software and retry the entire process.
455  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: is bityc.net scam? on: February 13, 2024, 09:59:03 AM
I looked the website up on the net and there were a lot of shaddy reviews. So I tried using a quite trusted scam checker and I got this;

Now let me guess they are asking for KYC information first before they can grant you a loan. To start with if you are serious with your privacy avoid KYC and most importantly I  would advise you to look for a better exchange to do your business and trading. Even if you decide to make use of binance wallet which is more popular and has better reviews , you will still have to do their KYC first. And I am also not sure if binance gives out loans. The website is too young and has very low traffic so it is likely a scam.
456  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 50k is exciting on: February 12, 2024, 06:47:54 PM
Yeah it definitely is exciting but this over excitement of holders not patient enough is what has caused drastical increase in fees. Take a look;

FROM

  • fastestFee: 11 sat/vB
  • halfHourFee: 11 sat/vB
  • hourFee: 11 sat/vB
  • economyFee: 8 sat/vB
  • minimumFee: 4 sat/vB

TO

  • fastestFee: 53 sat/vB
  • halfHourFee: 48 sat/vB
  • hourFee: 42 sat/vB
  • economyFee: 10 sat/vB
  • minimumFee: 5 sat/vB

In just a space of about 6 hours just because people are rushing to move their Bitcoins to exchanges and quickly make profit off it. However the fees will go back to normal though once the rush has subsided.
457  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Excessive Bitcoin fees on: February 12, 2024, 06:21:12 PM
"Some large exchanges have mining pools for faster confirmation"

This is exactly the type of centralization I'm voicing concern about. Isn't there an obvious conflict of interest if CEX's use in-house mining pools to add their own txs to the blockchain? What happens when these exchanges form a consortia? This work-around doesn't seem to lead us down a sustainable path...

I bet you it won't work. Mining requires hash rate to confirm transactions and create new Bitcoins. This hash rate is usually higher depending on the computation power of the computer you are using. Because the faster the miner's node setup can find hashes that that fit in the block, the faster you can proceed to computing the next hash problem. Now of course setting this up will require large sum of money especially if you are to run a pool .

Aside that if centralized exchanges should try to centralize Bitcoin, the will end of losing because the will be doing us the the people transacting good by confirming transactions with low fees for us and also be losing Because of the electrical cost of running the pool.
458  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Excessive Bitcoin fees on: February 12, 2024, 05:48:34 PM
From the look of things right now, Bitcoin is progressing when it comes to fees. During late periods of last year to very early this year, Bitcoin fees were drastically high due to conjestions caused by ordinals.
However as I type, Bitcoin fees have come so low to an average of about 24sat/byte for normal fees which would arrive between periods of an hour to 30 minutes.

What will happen when only large institutions can afford to use Bitcoin's blockchain, due to rising fees? Won't this centralize the network if most can only trade bitcoin on centralized exchanges?

If the network is conjested, fees on centralized exchanges will also increase. So theoretically they still can't control transaction rates since miners are the ones who confirm transactions not exchanges although some large exchanges have mining pools for faster confirmation.

460  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A blog about someone planning to retire early with Bitcoin on: February 12, 2024, 08:17:03 AM
This is a perfect explanation of how Bitcoin is the best crypto currency to withstand inflation. Many a time people are told to invest not save but they seem to get confused. Investing overtime brings about profits which in turn covers losses caused by inflation. Now Bitcoin currently is the best digital currency that could serve both as an asset and a peer to peer currency.

Someone who saved $42k in fiat would find out that in a 3 year period of time $42k won't be worth as much as it used to. However someone who bought Bitcoin worth of $42k about 3 years ago will find out that due to increase in value of Bitcoin, that amount would have been over 46k which would cover for both losses caused by inflation and still leaving  an extra amount of profit.

Bitcoin is a win win investment asset for both inflation and profit.
