Similar story for me. I literally tried to start mining with the qt client though as I didnt quite get it the first time around. Thankfully that was in 2010 Grin

I have asked something similar in the past, and the answer that was given to me was to use qt or armory, because only from these wallets can an outgoing MasterCoin transaction start.

This is just more proof that mtgox numbers are and always have been cooked up by bots and not actual demand for bitcoin. Its not millions of distinct coins that have been bought and are now held at a higher price basis - its just the same coins switching hands over and over.
