Just how much hash power can be aimed a BitcoinQT and have things function correctly? Roll Eyes
442  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Blue Fury Miners V2 2.6Gh/s on: November 10, 2013, 08:13:43 PM
These are too expensive when you compare them to an ASICMINER blade. You can get those for BTC1.1 and they do 10 Gh/s, nearly 4 times as fast!

That may be true, but these use only a fraction of the power of a blade.

For the same power consumption of one 10 GH blade, you can run 30 Blue Fury units totalling 60 GH or more.

Also, does that BTC1.1 include a power supply?

or the price of hosting a stratum proxy and the greater cost of network swithces vs usb hubs? After the pain of setting up two old style blades i swore to myself that i would not buy another at any price.
443  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Blue Fury Support Thread. on: November 10, 2013, 02:14:06 AM
I've got 2 BlueFurys. the setup is the two are in an orecio hub(anker type) with artic breeze fan using a 12 year old laptop with winXP. Did the zadig thing. I'm using cgminer 3.7.2. Everything is running perfectly!!! Only nonissue is that very once in a while a bubble pops up saying that the USB device could run faster in a USB 2.0 port. nonissue because this machine only has 1.0 ports. heh. but it keeps reminding me just the same. Tongue

This setup works great, i got 2 more BlueFurys on the way. Smiley
444  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [100 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: November 09, 2013, 06:57:11 PM
I have an unconfirmed payment from 11/7 and a negative balance with no double payment visible.

 Huh

On the Slush web site https://mining.bitcoin.cz/accounts/profile/ it says
" Quick updates

    08.11.2013
Some recent payouts didn't go thru bitcoin network because of unsatisfied transaction fees. We're finding a soluton and all payouts will be processed soon"

Hopefully they will fix this soon, or try to contact Slush support email or the Live Support.
In my case the double payments were not consecutive. looking at my wallet transactions, stats (I copy and keep my Slush stats) and the payout history I managed to figure it out more or less...

Newcomers to slush pool: slush's pool IS the shit.  Slush's pool is a small operation.  Sometimes weird stuff happens for a while, most likely because the genius is updating his site.  It ALWAYS corrects itself (at least 99% of the time).  Just trust the slush.

My take on Slush's Pool since I have been mining on slush since January of 2013 is

1. Very Little down times (Great pool connection)
2. Payment is a little funky sometimes but corrected with given time, and for the most part every payment is right.
3. Lucky days is when you have a great day, unlucky days Angry but it averages out with the lucky days. Cheesy
4. Forum thread for this pool is a like a family, everyone comes here to talk, complain and resolve.

I agree 100% I've been here since i started mining in May. The key on any of the pools is to try to not to micromonitor the pool. Given time, most pools work out their problems. On this pool, if you look at stats right after processing has finished, it is possible to see 00000 reward and freak out. It works out after about 10 minutes. Most pool Operaters realize that their reputation is gold and will do what ever they can to be fair to everyone. Slush is too busy to talk to us, but i'm pretty sure that he or one of his people is keeping an eye on us.
445  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: **US** BitFury Setup Guide on: November 08, 2013, 09:43:04 PM
can someone post a pic of how they connected their psu to the mainboard. Looked all over and can't figure this out. I have the paperclip jumper on psu working so it will provide power but I don't know how to connect psu to the main bitfury board.

In part, it depends on which motherboard you have. the V1 boards come with an adapter that gets screwed to them. Get the polarity right or you smoke the MB. The V2 and later MBs allow you to plug the PCIe power connecters right into the MB.
446  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [65Th]Ozcoin Pooled Mining |DGM 1%|PoT 2%|Stratum+VarDiff port 80|0.01 threshold on: November 08, 2013, 09:36:59 PM
Ok this makes sense. Thx

Another question.  My "estimated" payout was much less in the end. It was up to ~0.02 during the previous long block .... In the end I was paid ~0.004 for that block. No downtime since I connected. Is this an effect of Dgm as well?

In that case I'll recoup these early losses in some manner when I stop mining here. Correct?
Thx again

It takes a while for the payout to ramp up.  So if you just started mining recently your early rewards will be low then it evens out.  So if that is the reason for the lower than expected payout then yes it will be made up later.  But bad luck does happen so that may not be the reason as well.  Just a cautionary CYA Smiley.
So then, based on that, this pool isn't a good candidate for a fall back pool? I'm thinking that a pool you can come into for a short period of time with out penalty would be the best for a fall back pool.
447  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1100 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees, Stratum, MergedMining, Private Servers on: November 08, 2013, 04:40:51 PM
It does all even out in the long run though.  You can still see our luck since September 27th is holding strong at 103.9% currently.

Exactly. I don't get people whining so hard when there is a round of bad luck. You can see the whining in all pool's thread as soon as a few hours of bad luck arrive... Which is ridiculous and just demonstrates that people has no idea of how this work.

Additionally, BTCGuild has been very lucky on average this last month, so you really do not understand what's going on if you complain. In the Eligius's thread people was already going for their forks when we hit a 0.1% block... Which is just stupid.

It also shows that people spend way too much time MicroMonitoring the pools. I'm all for checking on your equipment regularly. I've had Blades stop working, USB hubs fail, Some ASICminer USBs require being replugged in, The Pi's memory card go bad on my Bitfury, etc. But i refuse to second quess the pools i'm on based on a few days observation. I understand Luck, when it is good and when it is bad and just accept that it is what it is. I understand constantly diminishing returns. Heck i even started a thread about how Mining will always be a losing proposition.

I rarely consider the pools at fault, and on those rare occasions when i do, I post and accept the Pool Operater's response as gospel(unless i don't understand, then we go back and forth until i do understand).

Basically, walk away from your miners, check them a couple times a day to insure they are running. Quiting trying to verify that the pool is working correctly, the computer is smarter than you are and less likely to make a mistake. Accept that Luck and Variance will mess with your head.
448  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [100 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: November 08, 2013, 12:26:46 AM
are people pointing their blades to separate workers or all pooled to one worker?

I have two blades pointed at 2 workers through one proxy. separate workers makes it easy to see if there is a problem.
449  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales now open ***full prototype pics*** on: November 06, 2013, 08:26:45 PM
I'd appreciate it if you'd ship my miners that were supposed to be delivered in October before lowering your prices. So I pay $8000 and get my rig this week/next week. Someone else pays say.. $4000 tomorrow and received their rig just a week later than me? Can you not see how anyone would have an issue with this?

I understand you need to lower your prices, but it is like a slap in the face to October orders that have not been delivered yet. Can $8000 October rig buyers switch their orders for later delivery and get store credit or something?

I agree.  Bitfury needs to protect the network for their October customers for a little while longer.  There will be no future generations worth purchasing if ASIC manufacturers keep irresponsibly moving so much TH out the door.

This is the way it is always going to be. If you go to the store and something is cheaper than it was yesterday when you bought it, do you throw a hissy fit? I can understand being pissed for not getting your stuff yet, but not complaining about dropping prices. They should stop selling stuff because you want some time before the price drops? Are all the other sellers going to take a break as well? If you have expectations of profit or fairness you are in the wrong game.
450  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Which USB hub to use with Block Erupters | NanoFury NF1 | BPMC Red Fury? A List. on: November 06, 2013, 04:35:36 PM
@ Nemo, I think the current cost per port is 0 if buying 50 units...

This is so untrue. Nothing is free. Instead of giving you a quantity discount for buying 50 they are applying the savings to the cost of Hub. This just makes it harder to see the actual cost.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!!

These come with out power supplies, so you need to figure in the cost of a power supply when figuring the per port costs as well.

"Free with purchase" is never Free.

453  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Just purchased 18 block erupters Buyers remorse... on: November 04, 2013, 08:08:56 PM
They are going as low as $9 on Amazon....

So, as I said, if you sell your miners this year, you can write off your loss as capital loss on your taxes.

Is bitcoin even taxable in the first place?

It would be difficult to make an argument that bitcoin isn't capital. Capital gains are taxable.

It seems that most people consider it a capital gain when/if you change it into fiat. In the US the Tax is Capital Gains - Expenses - Capital Losses. Since no one will make back their expenses it can be considered a Hobby.

455  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Which pool are best now ? on: November 03, 2013, 08:11:39 PM
From a small miner's perspective, 1% is almost nothing.
456  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: How profitable is it to operate a mining pool? on: November 03, 2013, 08:08:38 PM
Although running a pool may be profitable for the existing pools, I suspect that it is almost impossible to start a sucessful pool at this time ( not including pools formed to take advantage of existing hashing power ). Just like every new miner brought on line dilutes the other miners, every new pool dilutes the existing pools. The variance on really small pools would be so great that it would mimic solo mining. Also, a new pool would have to offer something that the existing pools didn't and do it sustainably.

Then there is the infrastructure that is needed. I suspect that to be a viable public pool one would need hardware beyond one's own home computer or home network. Also, one would need the know how to setup and maintain the pool. At some point other pool owners will tell you that you are on your own.

I can probably be done, but success isn't likely. 90% of all small businesses fail in the first year.

This is off topic, i suspect that i am addressing the underlying purpose for this question. If not, Oh well. Smiley

block 267277 with a value of 37.2971608 .... what could be the reason? someone paying high fees for a transfer?

I just noticed, one of my miners found this block. My first block ever! I started in May with 10 Mh/s. Now i have 130 Gh/s with 40Gh/s on Slush Pool. Cheesy

Nice joke, zero results out of 87300 shares? Anyone got this?

give it time. the Stats often do that for a few minutes after a block is found. Look back in an hour.

I love slush's pool, been using it exclusively for months now. I happened to see something about the POT (pay on target) method on Ozcoin where you get more shares if you're the guy who finds the block, than with PPS. Intrigued I decided to give it a shot, and I'm liking it.

I'm wondering if slush would consider adding this in as an option for workers to choose?

Has anyone else tried POT long term? So far my results are favorable.

If you give the finder more, you give everyone else less. I've never found a block and don't expect to. this means that i'd just get less all the time.  Undecided

That's one side of the coin, but it's nice because it gives you the best of both worlds--you get the consistency of pool mining but you still can taste some of the sweetness of finding the block.

I'm actually being paid just as much through POT as I would normally be paid on Slush (actually, I've been getting more consistent returns by a little bit). I've also found 2 or 3 blocks in the past, so it would be neat to see a little higher bump for doing so.

And this is why there are different pools. if you know of one that works the way you want, use that one. Changing this one to work like that one would just make me look for another pool when i'm content where i am.
