4401  Economy / Economics / Re: Big news.Chinea central bank closed the internet transfer channel to market. on: December 17, 2013, 02:51:23 PM
Another FUD topic to try and push the price down - we already have at least 3 others.

If you bother to try it out yourself you'll find that btcchina is working fine (as has been pointed out in the other silly FUD topics).

(also interesting to note that these topics are mostly being created by "new accounts")
4402  Other / Off-topic / Re: Did China Just Legalize...The Two Child Family? on: December 17, 2013, 01:59:40 PM
Also, if both the husband and the wife themselves are the only children to their parents, then they can have two children.

True - also a new rule will actually allow for two children provided that *one* of the parents is an only child (not sure exactly when that comes in).
4403  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Making insane fee non-standard on: December 17, 2013, 09:28:36 AM
Shoving in a _fee_ operator is a really kludgy way to handle it as if it worked it would break the sighash independence and the ability to do ANYONE CAN PAY to add fees to unstick a transaction which had fees which were too low.

Well admittedly I am coming at this from another angle as I would really love to have the fee included in the script for 100% safe air-grapped QR code tx signing from a device that doesn't need any blockchain info.

Am not sure but perhaps it could be made to work by having more than one OP_CHECKFEE included (so the original could still be present) but am guessing you'd consider that a "kludge on top of a kludge". Wink
4404  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Making insane fee non-standard on: December 17, 2013, 08:41:22 AM
Personally I think a much better solution would be to have the fee *explicitly specifiable* in the script (a new op such as OP_CHECKFEE).

The idea being that if this check is present then the amount specified must match the actual fee.

The benefit of this is that it also allows for safe offline signing without needing the blockchain (currently such signing could be dangerous as the offline device without a blockchain doesn't have the information to be able to calculate the fee).
4405  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC China will be closed. All Bitcoin chinese exchangers will be closed. on: December 17, 2013, 04:56:03 AM
Can you deposit money to btcchina?

Yes you can - via direct bank transfer.
4406  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC China will be closed. All Bitcoin chinese exchangers will be closed. on: December 17, 2013, 04:54:29 AM
I would sell my Bitcoins if I would had NOW.

And price has risen back up to 3690 - you'd better try harder!
4407  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC China will be closed. All Bitcoin chinese exchangers will be closed. on: December 17, 2013, 04:49:06 AM
Trading on btcchina is going on as we type - maybe some feeds might not be working but trading BTC and RMB on btcchina *is*.

(price rose from 3600 to 3650 while I was typing this - strange how that happened if no BTC are being traded at all)
4408  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC China will be closed. All Bitcoin chinese exchangers will be closed. on: December 17, 2013, 04:34:49 AM
I can see some holes in the logic.
but to mayax's credit. Why are the prices falling today ?

Because of a FUD campaign (read the article on CoinDesk for the details that came from some "unnamed source").

It does seem that "tenpay" will no longer be able to be used with BTC exchanges but direct bank deposits and withdrawals are working fine.

If the PBOC was really *banning* btcchina then how is it possible that they forgot to actually stop people from doing deposits and withdrawals?
4409  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC China will be closed. All Bitcoin chinese exchangers will be closed. on: December 17, 2013, 04:25:48 AM
They are doing illegal things if they are accepting deposits again.

So you are saying PBOC have made an announcement yet at the same time the very same PBOC are allowing you to transfer money in and out of btcchina.

Can you see the problem with your logic?

BTW if "tenpay" is taken out of the equation then it means little more than you have to pay more fees to the banks (same as Dwolla being taken out of the equation for Mt. Gox).
4410  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC China will be closed. All Bitcoin chinese exchangers will be closed. on: December 17, 2013, 04:20:17 AM
Transfers are working perfectly on btcchina - OP stop the FUD your links are just to nothing other than unsubstantiated rumors.
4411  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC China will be closed. All Bitcoin chinese exchangers will be closed. on: December 17, 2013, 04:12:07 AM
This is FUD - seems a lot of topics appearing from 0 activity newbies trying hard to keep pushing down the price.
4412  Other / Off-topic / Re: [FUD] China prohibits banks providing settlement services to Bitcoin Exchange on: December 16, 2013, 04:43:11 PM
3: BTCCHINA withdrawl issues but this seems to be a browser bug in IE and firefox. google chrome working?

At least in regards to this issue - it does not appear to be a browser bug but instead a bug with their "old website" (an option you can click on).

If you use the "new website" (which is the default for new users) then this problem is not occurring as far as I am aware.
4413  Other / Off-topic / Re: [FUD] China prohibits banks providing settlement services to Bitcoin Exchange on: December 16, 2013, 02:59:47 PM
I think that the [FUD] prefix added to the topic is a good call for now.
4414  Other / Off-topic / Re: China prohibits banks providing settlement services to Bitcoin Exchange on: December 16, 2013, 02:32:21 PM
So how do RMB withdrawals work? What effect do China's capital controls have on westerners trying to arbitrage between btcchina and Bitstamp?

I am not sure about the rules in terms of westerners (I am not personally trading on btcchina but am in close touch with Chinese people that are).

Arbitraging is never as easy as it appears in any case as there are always problems of delays (for a start the 6 confirmations to transfer BTC and then normally daily fiat withdrawal limits).
4415  Other / Off-topic / Re: China prohibits banks providing settlement services to Bitcoin Exchange on: December 16, 2013, 02:20:46 PM
Just sounds like the same announcement from before - and as I checked RMB withdrawals (at least) are still working fine from btcchina (and apparently from okcoin also).

I think we have seen some FUD and opportunism but will not know if any change has actually happened until we get a more "official" statement.
4416  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Private/public key question on: December 16, 2013, 02:01:22 PM
I mean, could I just have that private key without the need to have a backup of any wallet?

Yes - basically your wallet simply holds your private keys (plus some tx information and labels that are not essential in terms of your actual BTC amounts).
4417  Other / Off-topic / Re: China prohibits banks providing settlement services to Bitcoin Exchange on: December 16, 2013, 12:57:15 PM
Just to update in regards to btcchina - withdrawals in RMB are still working (they are just not working in the "old web design" version of the website).

I think it's important to not spread FUD but to instead work out what is actually happening.
4418  Other / Off-topic / Re: China prohibits banks providing settlement services to Bitcoin Exchange on: December 16, 2013, 12:36:40 PM
Now let's see what the 'real' volume is like (IF they report the correct numbers)..

If it turns out to be really not possible to withdraw or deposit RMB then you can expect to see btcchina disappear pretty soon (hopefully the truth is just website bugs and some rather poor timing followed by some rather clever FUD).
4419  Other / Off-topic / Re: China prohibits banks providing settlement services to Bitcoin Exchange on: December 16, 2013, 12:19:40 PM
There's no such city selection part in any browser

Am talking about btcchina not the other exchange you mentioned.
4420  Other / Off-topic / Re: China prohibits banks providing settlement services to Bitcoin Exchange on: December 16, 2013, 12:12:04 PM
How can BTC market be taken seriously in the world if some kid with his laptop can cause panic selling?

This is not just that - the problems are real even if they might only be some glitches (and the rumors are spreading).
