4401  Other / Meta / Re: Upcoming Bitcointalk.org Anniversary. on: October 18, 2020, 09:45:35 PM
Oh boy I remember that thread. It's that thread where a lot of people received their first big chunks of merits LOL.
Yep, I remember that vividly--submissions were coming out of the woodwork by members who were obviously NOT qualified to submit any artwork to a contest, but that was only after they'd seen how generous Theymos was being with the merit distribution.  That's if I remember that part correctly, because I stopped following that thread after about 3 pages or so.

But I never objected to all that merit he sent out.  He certainly had accumulated a massive number of sMerits by that point, and I don't often see Theymos giving out a lot of merits.

That was the 10 year celebration, and it was a nice landmark number and represented a decade of the forum being in existence.  I don't think we need yearly celebrations by any means.  Just my own little opinion, though.
4402  Economy / Economics / Re: Not enough Corona Virus Vaccine until 2024, at earliest on: October 18, 2020, 09:29:53 PM
The problem with what you are proposing is that you do not know how the virus will affect you, we know there are people that are not affected significantly by the virus but we know of even young peopled dying because of it
Yes, but that's also true of seasonal influenza--it has the capability to kill anyone, though there are certain groups at higher risk of dying from it.  As far as COVID goes, we're starting to see that our reaction to it was so overblown.  We were anticipating ICUs crowded with patients dying on ventilators, and what happened?  Trump just said ventilators were being donated to other countries that need them more.  I don't know a single person who's had COVID-19, and the big names on TV who've gotten it have survived it just fine.

Therefore I'm not worried about how fast we can get a vaccine, because I suspect that after the US election the hysteria will burn itself out along with the virus.
4403  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Is Kucoin still working correctly for most of you? on: October 18, 2020, 07:17:10 PM
I unlocked this thread just to give an update about my recent experience with Kucoin.  As I said, I'm able to deposit bitcoin, but it seems like there are a ton of wallets that are in maintenance mode, and that kinda makes me anxious about their ability to survive this hack.

Yobit is notorious for keeping some of the shittiest coins available to trade and at the same time not letting you withdraw them.  I don't want to see Kucoin end up in a state like that.  But man....there's no way I'm going to deposit any bitcoin on Kucoin if I can't withdraw the coins I want to buy (and right now it's just a small quantity of some obscure altcoins that I'm interested in buying).  Hopefully they get their problems settled soon, because personally I don't have many options as far as exchanges go.
4404  Economy / Economics / Re: usa dollar future on: October 18, 2020, 06:57:22 PM
I think we are headed towards blockchain and crypto based coins inevitably. As globalism continues to rise, we have no other choice but to adapt a single currency monitored and regulated by everyone and none would have supreme authority over it.
That would be effin' fantastic, but there's no way in hell any government that wants to collect taxes is going to go for it.

And what cryptocurrency would be used for the "global coin"?  Would it be bitcoin?  Would it be a true cryptocurrency or would it be something totally centralized like that which the Chinese government has proposed (I think it was China)?  And it's amazing to think of how many coins are already out there on the market, being used for nothing except trading.  In order for the masses to adopt cryptocurrency as their primary way to pay for things, major changes in a lot of things would have to happen--including the collapse of the USD and probably some other major currencies, and people receiving their paychecks in crypto rather than fiat....and a lot more.

The US dollar is a messed up thing. With too much risks, I would never store fiat cash under my bed because it's just too risky and will lose value.
You bet it's messed up.  I might keep it under my mattress for the short-term, but with all of this money printing and stimulus and quantitative easing, whatever you stuff under that mattress is going to magically vanish sooner or later.  The scary thing is that I'm not sure the Fed or anyone else in power is keeping an eye on things.
4405  Economy / Reputation / Re: May I get into any troubles by sending trust feedback? on: October 18, 2020, 06:10:37 PM
I sent my first neutral feedback to a member that seemed posting suspicious content. I may do it in the future for other members, and I want to know. May I get considered as a trust abuser?
Go for it, as long as you're comfortable that you're right.  And if you see an obvious scammer, leave a negative instead of a neutral.  You might get a retaliatory neg in return, but that's just how it goes here.  Take a look at my trust page (or any DT member's for that matter).  There's red all over the place, but good luck trying to find proof for whatever accusations were left.

And no, as long as you're trying to combat scammers you won't be considered a trust abuser.  Just don't leave neg for shitposters/spammers.

Also another question, how can the people that see the feedback be sure that I'm not lying?
Leave a valid reference link or include some sort of evidence with your feedback.  That's the best you can do.
4406  Other / Archival / Re: [BIG LIST] Hardware wallets (80+) on: October 18, 2020, 02:32:46 AM
For example, OmniStaker |  should hardware wallet be air-gapped? not connected to the Internet? And having ethernet built inside, doesn't it reduce the security of the wallet?
Yeah, that caught my eye immediately and it definitely isn't a real hardware wallet.  Stakebox has been making dressed-up pi's to stake specific coins for quite some time now, and even if they use much less electricity, you'd still have to stake a hell of a lot of whatever coin you're staking in order to recoup the cost of even the cheapest Raspberry pi on the market.

And yeah, I guess you could use a pi as a hardware device, but that's true of a cell phone or even a piece of paper with a seed phrase written on it.

All in all, this is a great compilation of various HW wallets and I hadn't seen a lot of these before.  Thanks for going through all the effort, OP.
4407  Economy / Exchanges / Re: OKex Suspends Withdrawls on: October 17, 2020, 03:28:51 AM
They just announced that Okex founder Star Xu was arrested by police, but we are still waiting for confirmation of this news.
Yikes.

His social media Weibo profile is also gone Smiley
Yikes!

no one should be thinking places like this are as solid as a real financial institution.
Damn straight, and I think everyone in crypto from complete newbies to veterans ought to come to the realization that crypto exchanges are not "real financial institutions" in the sense that we consider banks to be.  A lot of them are still in Wild West territory where rules haven't been established as to their regulation and so forth, and it seems like half the time when an exchange hits the news, most people don't even seem to know what country the exchange operates out of, much less who owns it, or any of the other info that you could find out easily about a bank or a stock brokerage.

I've heard of OKex but never used them.  Are they one of the Asian exchanges with a decent reputation?  In any case, if the founder got arrested for any alleged wrongdoing involving the exchange, that doesn't bode well for OKex's customers.

Time to Leave this Forum
Good, fare thee well.  The problem isn't the forum; it's YOU.  You create too many threads that are nearly incomprehensible.  Obviously your first language is not English, and if it is....you've got some troubles above your collar line that no one here is going to be able to help you with (though you could ask Jet Cash nicely if you really wanted to improve your communication skills).

Too. Many Old members playing like they Don't know no point to talk about nothing.
Just curious: what's your cutoff for being "old"?  And perhaps it isn't them pretending they don't know something but you misunderstanding their responses.  I sure as hell haven't learned anything by reading any of your posts, and I've read quite a few.

Best of luck on whatever forum you're off to next.  Maybe try cryptotalk.org, where nobody can be understood and nobody gives a shit.
4409  Economy / Reputation / Re: [HELP] TRUST ABUSE BY PLAGIARIST / DT MEMBERS PLEASE HELP on: October 16, 2020, 11:11:11 PM
It means the the owner was able to prove that the account is theirs (e.g. via e-mail address ownership, or a signed message) and regained access to their account, which was presumably hacked but I can imagine that an unscrupulous account seller could also steal back a sold account this way so it doesn't really prove much. The message itself comes from seclog.
OK, I looked at his post history and saw that he started out posting in German and English sections, then switched to the Philippines section on July 30,2017, then switched back to German on May 13, 2020 with what looks like an account recovery post (I can't read German).  That's definitely not enough evidence for me to tag him for account selling.
4410  Economy / Reputation / Re: [HELP] TRUST ABUSE BY PLAGIARIST / DT MEMBERS PLEASE HELP on: October 16, 2020, 10:54:22 PM
The account changed hands several times and just woke up to participate in signature campaigns...

Now he post in german (see recent posts...)... in 2016 he posted in pilipinas....
I'm not sure what that "manual recovery previously queued ownership change completed" means from BPIP, nor do I know how much weight it has as evidence that the account changed hands.

So he's currently posting in German and used to post in the Philippines section, right?  I have those sections on ignore and thus couldn't see his posts when I checked his history.  I'll un-ignore them and go back and take a close look at his posting history.

If any other members (particularly DT) care to weigh in, I'd like to hear some opinions.
4411  Economy / Economics / Re: Money Supply Growth Has Never Been As High As It Is Today on: October 16, 2020, 10:44:22 PM
Inflation is becoming a legitimate concern. Savvy investors are putting their money in gold and bitcoin in an effort to avoid having their wealth be devalued.
It's been a concern for a while now, but for whatever reason we haven't seen rampant inflation (Venezuela, Zimbabwe, and one or two other countries aside) yet.  I'm not sure why that is, because this out-of-control money printing has been going on for years now, and interest rates have been near zero for about as long.  But just because the inflation tidal wave hasn't hit our shores yet doesn't mean it's never going to.

This sort of makes me wonder if this is the reason why corporations like MicroStrategy and some others have been buying bitcoin to keep on hand in lieu of cash.  To me, that seems like an incredibly unorthodox move for any publicly traded company--but it could well be the case that they see the disaster coming from a vantage point that the rest of us don't have access to.

These are crazy numbers, Hydrogen.  It might be a good time to be buying both bitcoin and gold, but I'm still not comfortable with what might be on its way.
4412  Economy / Reputation / Re: [HELP] TRUST ABUSE BY PLAGIARIST / DT MEMBERS PLEASE HELP on: October 16, 2020, 10:29:37 PM
That dude is on DT?  I'll have to take a look into that.  This quote from the other thread struck me as a load of excuses and victim-playing:

It's just a pity that I'm not addressed personally (not even parallel to the public accusation) in order to be able to correct misunderstandings, possible mistakes or misfortunes.

I must honestly say that I'm a little perplexed!
A forum ban would be sad, but also no end of my life...
In my case I see a small difference to real copy and paste plagiarism. But maybe I just want to see that!
But okay if you are so determined to fight against such practices, I can understand that, because there is a lot going wrong in this direction.

He's been here since 2014 and doesn't know how serious plagiarism is here?  If what you say about this account changing hands, I'll be happy to give him a red tag.  And yeah, I'm not sure why he hasn't been banned already.

Jesus Christ, does the DT list have zero meaning anymore or what?

Oh by the way, OP:  the feedback he left for you was not appropriate IMO and I'm going to exclude him from my trust list.
4413  Economy / Economics / Re: Can a new $2 trillion bill bring back the US economy to pre pandemic levels. on: October 16, 2020, 08:32:23 PM
It'd be interesting if this becomes the new way governments deal with economic crashes in the future (and a welcomed one).
It'll be more interesting to see how such a stimulus package gets paid for.  No doubt it'll be welcomed by the citizens of the United States, but there's no such thing as free money.  Somebody's got to pay back that $2 trillion, and I don't think anybody has a plan to not put the burden onto the taxpayers.

IMO the US economy is nowhere near as bad as it's being made out to be.  It took a temporary pounding because of COVID-19, but I'm pretty sure that'll all be settled after the election.  Guaranteed, because right now the politicians and the biased media are hyping up the dangers of the pandemic and using it to influence the election.

The US needs more jobs.  I don't really think it needs to take on $2 trillion worth of debt in order to stimulate the economy.
4414  Other / Meta / Re: Copper membership cost on: October 16, 2020, 05:24:21 PM
The benefits you are getting through copper membership are-
1. Linkable signature- Needs at least 57 days to obtain manually by ranking up.
2. Signature- Need at least 29 days to obtain.
3. And less restriction is posting gap, PM etc.
Therefore, it's saving you a lot of days. I guess the fee is quite reasonable.
If you're coming here to promote a project, buying a copper membership makes sense if for no other reason than to overcome the posting restriction.

Does buying a copper membership allow you to join a signature campaign quicker?  I get that campaigns generally don't accept Newbies and that a new member needs that one merit to rank up to Jr. Member, but if it doesn't give you that advantage at least I don't see why anyone would want to shell out $24 just for the benefits you listed above.  But hey, to each his own.
4415  Economy / Economics / Re: Where the top world Elite Rich guys invest on: October 15, 2020, 03:48:04 PM
1. Arts<snip>
2. Collectables<snip>
3. Real estate<snip>
The super-rich buy the first two categories mainly for their own enjoyment, because they can afford to, and presumably because they think they can eventually resell those things at a higher price down the road--but I don't think either one are considered primary investments for the 1%'ers.  I think they're mostly decorations for their mansions.

Real estate I agree with, and just look at Donald Trump.  He made his fortune in real estate, as did many other billionaires.  I wish I had enough dough to buy some land, but the best I can do as far as investing in real estate is buying REITs on the stock exchange.

A lot of uber-wealthy individuals also invest in businesses, and I'm talking privately (not on the stock market).  I've heard many sports stars putting their money into restaurants and the like, and those all generate income.  What the ultra wealthy don't do is invest in extremely risky assets like crypto, unless it's a very small fraction of their total net worth.  Their priority is keeping their wealth safe, not increasing it.
4416  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Post] Your Trust List on: October 15, 2020, 03:02:58 PM
Since you are not Canadian I can suggest some unused logos. The Pharmacist, if I were you, I would prefer either a girl or a bald guy.
OK, that's odd--you just had "Alex" in place of "The Pharmacist" a second ago, which you also called me in your last PM.  What's up with that?

I'm also curious as to why you would suggest a girl or bald buy for my "avatar".  I'm neither one of those things....and why wouldn't you have just chosen that for me in the first place anyway?  LOL.  You are a puzzling person, icopress.   Grin
4417  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Post] Your Trust List on: October 15, 2020, 01:46:12 PM
OK, so I get that a lot of OP's trust list got Marvel Comics superheros (and some DC ones).  Here's mine:

I'll admit that I haven't read comics for a long time, but I used to be an enormous fan--and I don't recognize the one you gave me.  He sort of looks like the leader of Alpha Flight from the 1980s.  I hope I'm not right, because I'm not Canadian and I never cared for that book all that much anyway.  Couldn't you give me Morbius or Nightcrawler or Son of Satan (that's going back quite a ways)?

Lol, just kidding.

And as far as your comment goes, I have to apologize for not responding to your last PM.  I didn't quite understand what you were asking and I failed to request a clarification--but I appreciate you having me in your trust list anyway.  We'll see if people start posting their own lists and I'll see about whether to post mine.  It's not very long.
4418  Economy / Reputation / Re: DT Members, country of origin on: October 15, 2020, 01:05:36 PM
1 - why the fuck would you wan't to know that?
OP registered on July 26, 2020, has 13 posts, and I don't remember seeing any of them.  If this question was being asked by someone who'd been around longer (like maybe by at least a year), then I wouldn't have suspicions about there being a wolf in sheep's clothes lurking about.  It's reasonable to be curious about something like what OP asked, but there's no way a newbie is going to get even very general personal info about any members here just by asking.

2 - most of this is easy enough to find out by yourself. Do the job if you really want to know.
I don't think it would be an easy job at all, unless a DT member posts on a local board, but even then that doesn't mean they live in that country.  So unless all of them have posted what country they're from in previous posts, I think it'd be very difficult to figure it out easily--and they could be lying anyway in order to increase their privacy.

But yeah, OP....not a good question to be asking on a bitcoin forum, especially at your rank.
4419  Other / Meta / Re: 2020 Crazy year for the world. Crazy year for bitcointalk. on: October 15, 2020, 01:52:44 AM
Hey xtraelv!  I was actually wondering where you'd disappeared to the other day, as I hadn't seen you posting for quite some time but had come across a thread you'd posted in a while back....anyway, glad you're healthy and are getting along in this new and crazy world we all live in now.

Cryptohunter disappeared.
Yeah, that one is definitely not true.  The cryptohunter account hasn't been active, but he's been creating alt accounts to keep his insane rants going.  There was a quiet period that lasted at least two months (IIRC) in which there were no drama threads being created in Reputation or Meta--and then, all of a sudden, he started back up again.

The price of bitcoin might be higher than the last time you were on the forum, though I don't have a good memory for times and prices and don't know exactly when your hiatus began.  With all the other crazy shit that's been happening, at least bitcoin's doing well.
4420  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Wallet S1 hardware wallet (by Gate.io) on: October 14, 2020, 09:11:23 PM
and it will have fingerprinting tech (I am not big fan of that as it can be faked very easy).
Really?  I know next to nothing about the reliability of fingerprint tech as a means of using it as a "password" and your statement kind of surprised me.  I would expect that if a device could recognize only your fingerprint, it'd be on point.  Do you know what the problems are?  Is it that fingerprint identification devices recognize other fingerprints than those it should be recognizing (like false positives)?

But isn't it risky to use new and untested software to store your money?
That's the main reason I wouldn't buy one of these things.  A secondary reason would be that I don't particularly care for the design of it.  I am a big fan of shape and symmetry in design, and that includes hardware wallets.  That's one of the reasons why I chose to buy a Ledger instead of a Trezor.  It's the reason why I love the design of the Keepkey.

This Wallet S1 device lacks symmetry and frankly looks kind of cheaply-made.  Unless it offers significant advantages over the established HWs on the market, I don't think it'll be in production for very long.  It's super tough to break into the HW market, because having a track record of safety and reliability is so important, and you don't have any reputation when you're creating a new device.

If anyone tries this one out, I'd love to read a review of it.
