4401  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Launching the first BTC.CFD Investor Club on: November 01, 2012, 11:53:18 AM
Here's a better idea: do this publicly for a few years, but using your own money. (Yes, the fact that you can't do that is all the signal that you shouldn't be doing this that you could ever possibly need).
4402  Economy / Services / Re: HideMyNet.com - VPN & Proxy Services - All Servers Now Providing .bit Resolution on: November 01, 2012, 11:52:01 AM

Happy to announce: all of our servers are now setup to provide .bit resolution. When connected to any vpn server location, all .bit domains will now properly resolve as any other domain would.

This is a great idea.
4403  Economy / Goods / Re: Zimbabwe 100 Trillions - Trade your hyperdeflated money for hyperinflated money on: November 01, 2012, 11:51:33 AM
not really. no war. competition is good. I'll try not to start any destructive spiral of lowering prices.
my correction last week was due to recent inventory exercise of mine and that we sell more or less at the same price is a coincidence. I think I do enough to distinguish myself by using bitcoin images on the post stamp and that I do only one type of the Z$ bill. And my Z $ exchange is older (my oldest otc ratings are from early 2011)
And also use #bitcoin-otc occasionally (if you see ptmhd around on irc, ask for 5% discount ; ) and bitmit and most other forums.

I just thought it is funny due to the original inflationary problems with that currency.
4404  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: OPEN LETTER to Donald, Patrick & Amir RE: Bitcoinica on: November 01, 2012, 11:51:00 AM
You may be right that Amir open sourcing the code did not lead to the second hack

Why are we even considering whether it did or it didn't in this context ? Fact of the matter is the guy published the code, fact of the matter is the code did contain enough information that a person could have done what Zhou alleges (improbably) to have been done. This is absolutely sufficient to hold the three stooges to the fire as if in fact they did it.

The only place where consideration of whether Amir publishing the code lead to the second hack or didn't lead to the second hack finds its place is when we judge Zhou, in the sense that he doesn't get off the hook just because we're spit-roasting Amir & co. But other than that, he who left the safe keys on the urinal at the corner bar pays for all items stolen and all damages. Irrespective of whether the thief is ever found, prosecuted, tried, convicted, ordered to make reparations, actually makes reparations etc.

It's probably also worth noting that the idiot releasing the broken, defective, untrustworthy, malfunctioning, general piece of shit codebase has the unfortunate effect of creating this crap.
4405  Economy / Gambling / Re: Dragon's Tale - a Massively Multiplayer Online RPG/Casino on: November 01, 2012, 11:48:03 AM
And that record has now been broken - today we had a 600 BTC jackpot on a Coconut Tree. To be fair, it was a 300 BTC bet. (The previous record of 520 BTC was on a 90 BTC bet.)

Nice going.
4406  Economy / Lending / Re: I'm a girl looking for a loan also! on: November 01, 2012, 01:21:11 AM
This should be in off-topic.

This entire "Lending" subforum should be in off-topic, is the point.
4407  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: OPEN LETTER to Donald, Patrick & Amir RE: Bitcoinica on: November 01, 2012, 01:20:26 AM
The plot thickens.

Quote
Both Anthony John MCCULLAGH and Stephen Mark LAWRENCE are the receivers for Tony Tay film Limited   . they are also directors of Auckland film studio in which Tony Tay film is  the majority share holder.

Yet as Directors  of the  Auckland film studio ( in which the Auckland rate payers have a significant stake )    they were unaware of  the value of the  company and   incorrectly represented the value in the  receivers first report

This morning   I received a phone call from mr Lawrence who advised me that   a new report would be published   and sent me a copy of the  corrected values.  he also   told me that I was  on a witch hunt.

4409  Economy / Services / Re: Does this exist? Bonding for sellers of goods that generate private keys. on: October 31, 2012, 09:25:29 PM

Everyone has to start somewhere.

Sure, everyone has to start somewhere, it's just that nobody has to start insuring someone who's just starting somewhere. We weren't really discussing whether you should start, we were discussing why it's so difficult to be insured.

Also, I do have an OTC ID. My attempts to trade OTC in mid 2011 showed me that it's a farce and just as scammy as everywhere else.

Well, that's not the case. You might want to review this.
4410  Economy / Lending / I'm a girl looking for a loan also! on: October 31, 2012, 09:22:21 PM
Not really, just wanted to oneup underminer. Did I succeed? Vote in the poll that I forgot to include!
4411  Economy / Securities / Re: [CRYPTOSTOCKS] Private loan pass-through (WIT), Dividend up to 1.2% daily on: October 31, 2012, 09:21:32 PM
Ironically if he put this much effort into something constructive he'd probably do OK!

This.
4412  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Let's have a little fun then, shall we. on: October 31, 2012, 09:20:53 PM
You could have just asked us to include a link in our sig. Percent of visitors arriving through link is an indicator. You don't need to track anyone with cookies.

By that measure bitcointalk doesn't really exist.

Your site doesn't use HTTPS whereas this forum does. If I recall correctly, that means web browsers won't send any referrer information when someone clicks on a link to your website from here to avoid leaking unencrypted information about what HTTPS pages people have been visiting.

That makes the ~20 hits really strange then doesn't it?
4413  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox - sigh... even more crap coming our way now on: October 31, 2012, 09:20:13 PM
Luckily I've not tried to cash out from Mt Gox yet since I'm not one for selling BTC (except occasionally for speculative purposes, i.e. short selling).

Selling something you own is never short selling.
4414  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Goodies inside. on: October 31, 2012, 09:19:04 PM
With copumpkin's help this matter was resolved on Oct. 7th. PDPC is now 120 pounds richer and Mr. P has a silver supporter hostmask. Sorry that I forgot to make a mention at that time.
4415  Economy / Goods / Re: Zimbabwe 100 Trillions - Trade your hyperdeflated money for hyperinflated money on: October 31, 2012, 05:25:15 PM
good to see the competition waking up from the limbo.

Price war ?  Grin
4416  Economy / Services / Re: Does this exist? Bonding for sellers of goods that generate private keys. on: October 31, 2012, 05:23:44 PM
This is the same old problem of insurance. You can't be bonded because you're not worth anything so the bondsman doesn't have what to hold over your head, and because you do not belong to a statistical class so that the bondsman could evaluate the costs and risks sanely.

Well, the assumption that I or anyone else is "not worth anything" is pretty presumptuous. And yes, I understand you mean "anything substantial", and it's still presumptuous.

The real problem is that so few people in the world understand BTC, that no insurer is going to be comfortable with the risk not knowing how to evaluate it. If I needed a bond because I'm going to be handling lots of USD, I would have no problem getting it.

My comment was directed at the original poster (who, as I understand, is just starting some vague business, has no OTC id etc). It was not directed at you (who, as I understand, have been running a substantial BTC business for some time now).

I don't think you would have much trouble getting either USD or BTC backed bonding. Your problem most likely is the dubious yet interface between BTC and USD (as from a business perspective, since what you need to bond mostly happens in the real world, USD bond would be best for that yet from a financial perspective, since your CPs mostly deal in BTC, a BTC bond would be best for you). An entirely different class of problem, then, as compared to the original "here's a person we don't know doing a business we don't know, let's insure it".

So we are paid Nov 5th?

Ya a few days now.

4418  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Nefario on: October 31, 2012, 05:05:59 PM
This phenomena can be seen in every scam then on this board.

business gone bad != scam
poor business skills != scam

+1

I think it's very sad that people who have the balls to pull off implementing "big services" for the bitcoin community and unfortunately fail and accidentally incur damage on the community are called scammers and receive so much hate.

There is no way that statement could be further from what happened here. It's diametrically opposed. What is very sad is people capable of confusing the diametrically opposed somehow finding the keyboard.

I personally know or at least met a couple of these individuals and their enthusiasm for bitcoin and for freeing the people of the world and changing it for the better is astonishing and inspiring.

Enthusiasm is no substitute. For anything.

The enthusiast, when lacking any other redeeming feature (such as, in this case, the most basic of any skill, any sort of morals or even cursory socialization) are a significant liability to any endeavor, no matter how simple. Even when merely digging ditches, the enthusiastically stupid are dangerous.

They've done a lot more for bitcoin and the ideas behind it than most of the cry-babies who lost their precious $$$ in these high risk low-regulation endeavours. Well, tough luck: be less greedy next time.

This is false. All Nefario has done is give BTC securities a black eye, and this is counting only his first year in operation with that bullshit non-thing that he promoted as "a btc exchange", and completely glossing over the past few months. In general, all this sort of people can do is ruin things.

I can appreciate you hate money in general and rich people in particular, would prefer to live in a world of the gleefully incompetent and truth-by-consensus and display a number of other mental issues in glaring, jarring colors. However, all these are your own, again, mental issues, which you should be resolving. Preferably, with medically qualified help.

4420  Economy / Securities / Re: F.GIGA.ETF to be delisted on December 1st, 2012. on: October 30, 2012, 11:48:46 PM
Does this have anything to do with GIGAMINING from gigavps?
I haven't seen anything about this in the original gigamining thread.

Well yes, a sort of pass-through I guess.
