4421  Economy / Economics / Re: Can Bitcoin be effectively used to curb corruption? on: November 17, 2017, 05:01:35 PM
Corruption is with humans and can only be reduced by laws. So, bitcoin has no way of curbing corruption. Corruption itself is with all human society and a way forward is for individual government to provide laws that will debar individuals from being in such manner.
4422  Economy / Economics / Re: why bitcoin is so much special than others currency ? on: November 17, 2017, 04:58:27 PM
The point about bitcoin being special above all is not extricated from some of the factors that it has been identified with and they are :

It is the first and it is reckoned with.
It has taken over because of trust over time.
It has value other than all others, even compared to any other fiat.
It is used as store of value too. etc
4423  Economy / Economics / Re: Would you invest in Russian business? on: November 17, 2017, 12:00:44 PM
One has to be very meticulous investing in a Russian business. Russia is full of skeptic businesses and punzi scheme and this is the reason that people and myself are skeptical to invest there.

Meanwhile, they have stringent laws incase one is caught in the act of fraud.
4424  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH or LTC long term? on: November 17, 2017, 11:24:03 AM
Brand new to the cryptocurrency market.  Currently I hold a decent amount of LTC.  It's value has gone up nicely since I purchased it.  I've read all the predictions for LTC in 2018 and 2019.  It sounds promising as a long term hold...which is what I'm more comfortable doing...to reach $200 -$300 a coin.   I like the fact that there is a team in place trying hard to ensure it's future.  Charlie Lee may not be the most charismatic spokesman publicly but he's out there doing it which gives me confidence in his product.  Now, it's obvious that ETH is not going anywhere.  My question for the board is which outperforms the other in the next 5 years?  I tend to invest heavily in the direction that has the bigger upside.  Perhaps I should split my investing 50/50 regarding ETH and LTC?  What say the more experienced cryptocurrency gurus?

I have nothing against BTC.  I don't see it going anywhere.  It is the giant.  However, I feel the current price point is too high for my liking.

Thanks

I actually like the last part of your idea and analysis.

So, I would just be succinct in my suggestion and it is not far from what your ideas are.

The first is that, it is better not to put your eggs in one basket. You can diversify but instead of 50/50 for LTC and ETH, you can make it 70 for LTC and 30 for ETH, being that you analyzed that LTC would be nice in future.

The other idea supports the first since you deduced that btc has been over rated, is better to "catch them young ". So, going with promising altcoins is better , after all bitcoin started with less than a dollar too. Success buddy
4425  Economy / Economics / Re: Institutional money now nearer than ever on: November 17, 2017, 01:52:31 AM
https://www.forbes.com/sites/petertchir/2017/10/31/bitcoin-futures-are-finally-here/#6389fec26a0d

You can click on there and read the press release. I think this will pass, it's not the SEC that regulates this, it's a different process from ETF's. I think we are still not ready for an ETF, but Bitcoin futures could be good. Some worry about price manipulation as similarly seen by gold. I argue Bitcoin is a much different asset and you can't manipulate it as much as gold. The supply is clear, the market is global and nonstop. Gold's supply is unclear, nobody knows what's the limit of gold or how much is out there. The markets are not as global and they take breaks.

Good times for Bitcoin holders ahead, once again. I think we'll see the ETF around 2020 with an active lightning network, and the march towards 6 figures a Bitcoin will begin.

This is looking like being possible with the way bitcoin is driving and taking over the whole place.

The world economy is tilting towards institutional money actually. I foresee a situation where some block of countries or continent would begin to rise against a particular currency, rejecting it as a means of exchange.
4426  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: BTC effect on altcoins on: November 16, 2017, 09:42:48 PM
I don't really know why that is happening & this is actually affecting the growth of altcoins. Just recently, the bullish from bitcoin has resulted to the dip of certain altcoins like LTG etc.

I guess is because it is paired with so many altcoin and investors see it as a potential profit, so they will must times click the buy button rather than sell.  Grin
4427  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: should i buy btc now or sell? on: November 16, 2017, 08:37:36 PM
For me, I would rather not buy bitcoin now but rather choose to invest in altcoin because they also would rise with time. Cryptocurrencies are not really a business for short term. Is better left for a long time. So, investing in altcoin and wait will not be a bad idea.

Though, I'm not saying buying bitcoin now won't be profitable.
4428  Economy / Economics / Re: impacts off cryptocurrency on: November 16, 2017, 05:42:53 PM
The impacts of cryptos to third world countries I would simply view it in two different angles and the first is to say the least on how internet also has negative impacts on some industrialised countries because obviously, not all the industrialised countries have access to internet or how to access it too.

Then the second is simply that which I view as advantage to the users of cryptos in third world countries. This is in the area of conversion. The value of bitcoin for instance is higher than dollars nor pounds, so if such fiat is then converted to the local currency of the third world countries - it should be a lot of money.

In other words, I really see whatever impacts cryptos has to the third world countries as an advantage.
4429  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ICO Is Really A Good Investment or Not? on: November 16, 2017, 03:56:56 PM
I believe ico is a money making venture when it is right but if it is frust by fraud, it would get the investor licking his or her wound. It means we have to be cautious and research about the team leading the campaign or program.

Most times, we should be vigilant to study the white paper to see the program of the coin in the future.
4430  Economy / Economics / Re: Gold Is Yesterday, Here Comes Bitcoin As A Reserve Currency on: November 16, 2017, 02:06:55 PM
It has become obvious that Gold has been relegated to the background lately with the emergence of bitcoin. Bitcoin to me is a veritable means to store and reserve currency.

In fact, currency stored as bitcoin has the potential of being valued more than the actual amount in the future with the rate that bitcoin is moving and increasing.
4431  Economy / Economics / Re: The value of bitcoin? on: November 16, 2017, 09:27:10 AM
Adams Smith wrote that the price of all things are equivalent to the human labor involved in their exploitation.   The price of gold is determined by the cost in human labor to mine it.  It can then be exchanged for another commodity which takes an equal amount of labor to create it.

Over time I have been able to find ways to place a price on stocks which I can use to evaluate what their value is to me.   I can then buy and sell based on what I determine as value at any time.

I’m not a currency speculator but I also believe the US dollar is being killed.   I don’t like having much of a cash position but would rather be fully invested.   At this time what I see is a highly inflated value of the S&P 500.  Any bonds other the very short term bonds come with too much risk tied to the Feds low interest rate policy and the increasing money supply along with quantitative easing which is placing too much fake money on the Feds balance sheet.

After many years I have developed a feel or intuition to tell me when prices are out of line.   When it comes to bitcoin I am at a loss.   I like the core concept of bitcoin and long term it seem like it will all work out but it’s value is another issue.   I just don’t have a feel for what it’s worth in exchange for food, a house, a car, gold equivalent.  It seem that it should be relatively close in value to the cost incurred by the bitcoin miners.   How do I find out what the current cost is to mine bitcoins.  It cost to mine a well know number kind of like the PE for a stork or index?

I have started to buy small amounts which I plan to hold but I really don’t like the volatility.  It is also difficult to invest in something when I don’t really have any history to give me a clue of somethings value.  I doubt I would hold if bitcoin went over 5000.  It seems to be moving a bit too fast.

Can we really acquiesce to that hypothesis of Adams Smith... "that the price of all things are equivalent to the human labor involved in their exploitation".?

Talking about bitcoin and its earnings , we would see that the earnings do not actually equate what was exerted to earn it. This especially in the area of just holding in a wallet.

For instance, with a scenario of a user or investor, just holding a fraction of bitcoin in the wallet & experiencing daily growth far outweighs the energy, time , value and other areas of consideration for investment.

Consequently in my view, bitcoin has flawed such hypothesis.
4432  Economy / Economics / Re: Long term argument for bitcoin on: November 16, 2017, 02:08:14 AM
I really don't see much difference between bitcoin and some of the altcoins that have same potential like bitcoin other than that, bitcoin was the first & the most likely the digital money known to most people and that keeps helping its popularity.

Other digital currency have the potential to do well like those who have low supplies at the moment. This is actually a wake up call to investors that some altcoin can spin - out money in the future and not necessarily only litecoin. The likes of SIC etc.
4433  Economy / Economics / Re: Invest 20 usd,then have 1 million usd within 12 months(Must read or will regret) on: November 15, 2017, 07:43:42 PM
That will be outrageous if it happens. You are saying that Zimbabwe will in the future become the most sort country in the future.

Anyway, that is not to say it is not possible but could it be through the currency?

Maybe, just with some mineral resource which is naturally given by God.
4434  Economy / Goods / Re: Selling The Bitcoin Ugly Christmas Sweatshirts on: November 15, 2017, 06:46:10 PM
Nice idea for the Christmas mate. Maybe you could look at getting a pure material 100% , like 100% cotton, polyester, silk etc plus mixtures of them. For instance, I usually prefer pure cotton material.
Nice work though, keep flying.
4435  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ICO is new way to get Free money? on: November 15, 2017, 05:16:12 PM
If one is lucky to sign up with a genuine ico, you can be sure you will get free money while growing with them but being unlucky on the other way means generating free money to the developers. So, one has to do rigorious investigation about the team and white paper. Also, an ico that also has a lending package are better in the long run.
4436  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Accepting bitcoin for service on: November 15, 2017, 05:05:53 PM
Hello

I'm totally new to bitcoin.
What needs to be done if i want to accept micro bitcoin for services that i offer? What type of set up i need to do?

Thanks
Steve

Being paid with bitcoin for a service provided would be a marvelous experience because you will be at an advantage because of the exchange value but you have to be very outstanding in the service you provide for your customers to do your bidding.

Further to this, it is understandable that in the business world , whoever has the strongest bargaining power carries the day; thus, making the other party to follow the rules. In other words, if you are good in your service, you can actually detect the mode of payment. Wish you the best.
4437  Economy / Economics / Re: Who supplies us bitcoin? on: November 15, 2017, 12:18:06 PM
Bitcoin, in my opinons has had it up and downs, but who supplies us bitcoin? Faucets can only supply so much before it gets closed down. So that's not a big supplier. Working for bitcoin has declined. I used to make videos and earn bitcoins. But that site has closed down like every other sites or faucets. So who supplies us bitcoins nowadays? Tell us please!

Op, your curiosity can be attended to in two ways, the first leading to the second.

The first way is that minners supply bitcoin to the general public or makes it available then the second way is that which is individual based. It is either supplied to the individual through faucets, signature campaigns or conversion of fiat into bitcoin.
4438  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Is it possible to use bitcoin like offline currency? on: November 14, 2017, 05:13:08 PM
Its not just about bitcoin only, any digital currency will not work without internet.but in future exchanges will start issuing voucher type of code which can be traded offline ,if you paying or giving it someone else.but in that case also you need internet connection to apply it.so digital currency or virtual currency is different from fiat thats why it is called digital currency.

Really and except something like a magic happens, bitcoin might not be accessible without the internet and especially because blockchain technology is internet based. This is one thing that differentiates bitcoin from paper money.
4439  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin's profit on: November 14, 2017, 04:25:30 PM
I heard people said that Bitcoin's profit is higher than profit of drug dealer, weapon dealers or profit of real property or any kind of stocks. Is that real ?

IMO, that's not true at all, bitcoin profits are high but not as high as other forms of illegal trading. Bitcoin brings huge profits over time. 6 years increased 700 times 👍

I think bitcoin should be quantified with businesess like stocks and the likes because they operate in almost same way. They gradually increase to get to a certain profit but drugs and other illicit business can turn an individual into a wealthy "lucky" folk unexpectedly at the success of a shady deal.
4440  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ecommerce, Businesses, Crypto Payments and Universa perspectives on: November 14, 2017, 03:28:30 PM
We are witnessing modernity and is better to get glued to it, build with it and grow on it. It comes with new technology and the latest if I'm not mistaken is blockchain which has taken over the universe.
