But West Indies is a very strong team in T20 cricket. While Chris Gayle, Darren Sammy, Andre Russell, Darren Brabo, Pollard played regularly in the national team.West Indies have achieved the distinction of being the best in the world twice in T20.However, the team has become relatively weak due to the retirement of some of their best players.

West Indies rarely perform well in any of the formats nowadays. First of all, it is rare for their senior players to appear for the national team. I don't even remember when was the last time player such as Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard turned out for West Indies. These guys prefer franchise cricket over international duty (which is not necessarily a bad thing). And as you pointed out, they are struggling to replace their retiring players. Younger players like Pooran, Riefer and Gayle, Sammy and Bravo.

For those who are interested in associate cricket: First phase of American section qualifying tournament for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup has been completed. Out of the 5 participants, 3 have advanced to the regional finals: Bermuda, Cayman Islands and Panama. The two teams who couldn't qualify are Argentina and Bahamas. The three top teams will join Canada for the regional finals. The top team from the regional final will qualify for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Asian qualifiers will start shortly.

Actually, some of the uncapped players like Shreyanka Patil (RCB), Kanika Ahuja (RCB) and Saika Ishaque (MI) did quite well with the bat and ball (there are a couple of more) and on the other hand capped players like Deepti is disappointing with the bat so far. Another name is Renuka Singh, i consider her a fine bowler but she's going in a different direction.

Overall batting performance is not up to the mark (Capped players) if we leave Mandana, Shaifali, Jemimah and Harman. Richa Ghosh has a bright future and clean hitter of the ball so I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and a long rope.

@Haunebu pointed out an important aspect. You countered his point with Men's team example. I'd say In professional sports, being athletic is also very important. It's not related to skill at all but endurance, it reflects clearly when you are chasing the ball or running between the wickets, these are important parts as well.

Being a skilled batter or bowler is a necessity but at the same time, if you are athletic on the field, it enhances your performance and 2-3 seconds difference can make a big impact in crunch moments like you can save runs, steal extra singles, can take blinder catch etc and if you are strong then can hit big too with the bat. We do have a fine example of Jemimah Rodrigues. She's not big so can't hit sixes much (although she's a skilled batter) but when she's on the outfield or running between the wickets she looks gorgeous.

Well.. it's a mixed bag. I saw one match where Saika Ishaque picked up two wickets for 26 runs (her second match in WPL, against the Royal Challengers Bangalore Women). She was quite impressive. And I agree on Deepti and Renuka. In case of Deepti, it is surprising, since she was on good form during the world cup. Renuka is out of form for the last few months, so it was expected. Top Indian players in general have performed well, including Harmanpreet, Shafali, Shikha, Smriti and Harleen.

One of the most frustrating things that I have noticed so far in the WPL has been the poor fielding from some of the Indian players. In T20 format, where the winning margin can be very thin, these missed chances and additional runs may prove decisive in the end. Even capped Indian players were dropping easy chances and giving away runs in the form of misfields. I guess quality coaching by the franchises and a strict training regimen will make an impact on this sector within the next 1-2 years. But again, it has to do more with the fitness level than the body build.
4424  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 08, 2023, 06:59:42 AM
I noticed the same. I don't think any Indian scored more than 60 runs so far while overseas players like Talia scored 90 not out which says a lot. The primary reason is because of the difference in their builds.

There are many strong, athletic overseas ladies in every team and many of them have performed well so far.

If not having athletic build is a disadvantage, then how come the Indian men are dominating international cricket for the last one decade? IMO, the main reason is experience. Overseas players are mostly from Australia and England, and they spend most of their time playing franchise T20 cricket. On the other hand, Indian women don't play as much cricket as these overseas players. And when they do, it is mostly ODI format. Also, Indian domestic cricket for women is mostly focused on the ODI format.
4425  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA World Cup 2026 :Canada/Mexico/United States: Discussion Thread on: March 08, 2023, 06:33:46 AM
A joint South American world cup would be amazing to celebrate the centenary of the world cup.

I hope they actually end up winning, that would be very fitting.

If 4 countries are co-hosting the tournament, does all of them get automatic qualification? For the 2026 FIFA World Cup, all the three hosts (United States, Canada and Mexico) have been granted automatic entry, which has been criticized by a lot of people. But this will be even more tricky. If they grant automatic entry for a total of 4 teams, then it will reduce the importance of qualifying tournament. IMO, only one host should be given this right, and others should earn their place through participating in the qualifying tournament.
4426  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is Inflation Happening All Over the World At Once? on: March 08, 2023, 05:10:28 AM
I am actually wondering why the inflation is still within tolerable limits. Here in India, it is still in single digits. If you remember, back in 2020-21 during the COVID period, a lot of countries used that excuse to print unlimited amounts of banknotes. The M1 monetary supply suddenly went up by 3x or 4x in most of the countries. Given this, I was expecting inflation to shot up to at least in double digits. But somehow the excess supply of money seems to have vanished from the economy. I don't know where it went, but inflation seems to be under control now.
4427  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian Gas ban - A problem for Europe or suicide for Russia? on: March 08, 2023, 05:00:06 AM
This is true, if we take into account the economic aspects, then China is completely benefiting from the Ukrainian war, despite the stagnation in which the global economy has entered since the beginning of the Ukrainian crisis. But this may not be accurate, as we took into account that China needs a strong ally in the face of the threat of military confrontation with the West. We have seen how the United States rushed to fabricate crises in Taiwan with the aim of disrupting it from providing support to Russia.
It can be said that Russia would not stand in its war without supporting China, and China will not be able to withstand (militarily or in proxy wars) without a strong Russia ally.

China is in a difficult situation. Politically, they want to support Russia. Because they know that once Russia is destroyed by the NATO, then it is their turn next. However, economically China needs to maintain the strong trade relationship with EU and the US. If that is disrupted, then the Western bloc will use the opportunity to move the manufacturing hubs from China, to other countries such as India and Philippines. So China is now being forced to chose between long-term benefit and short-term benefit.

South Africa vs West Indies

The second Test match between South Africa and West Indies is going to start shortly after in Johannesburg. The performance of the South African bowlers in the first match was quite good and they won. However, in the second innings, they lost all wickets for just 116 runs. If South Africa wants to continue its dominance in the second match as well, the bowlers as well as the batsmen must bat responsibly.

The West Indies team is quite weak for the Test format. Especially I think their batsmen have very little patience. So we don't see good performances from West Indies batsmen in the Test format. If West Indies batsmen don't perform well in today's match too, I don't see any chance of them winning.

I have a feeling that future of West Indies in test format will depend heavily on how Tagenarine Chanderpaul will perform in the coming years. Apart from him, I don't think that any of the other West Indian batsmen have the skills to score runs in this format. And I would like the West Indian selectors to give another opportunity for Gudakesh Motie. He is the best spinner they got and can be useful against the South Africans. And from what I heard, South Africa will be including two spinners for today's match - Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj.

It would be wrong to say that Bangladesh's current performance is disappointing. Despite losing the series against England, we have seen excellent performances from the players of Bangladesh in two matches. Bangladesh performed very well in the first and last matches. And in the previous series, the Bangladesh team won the series 2-1 against India. They were able to win against teams like India and England. So it should not be said that Bangladesh's performance is not good. Bangladesh team has a lot of talented players. But their main problem is that none of the players can play well on a regular basis. This is why the Bangladesh team is lagging behind.

Consistency is lacking in their performance. And when was the last time that they performed well during an ICC tournament? It has been almost two and half decades since they received the test status. Forget about the ICC tournaments. Bangladesh has failed even to win any of the ACC tournaments. Their best performance was in 2016 and 2018, when they finished as the runners up in Asia Cup. The only time Bangladesh managed to become champions was in 2010, when they received gold meal for cricket competition in the Asian Games.

Al-Hilal is very busy with a busy schedule in other competitions as we know before that they are in the FIFA Club World Cup competition and also the AFC Champions league which makes them so behind in the number of matches of other teams in the SPL. However it also impacted his form in SPL matches and had to lose at home against Al-Fateh. I think this defeat is very reasonable and in my opinion in the next match Al-Hilal will get the maximum result so they can compete again in the top 4 of the standings. For Al-Ittihad vs Al-Nassr I think this will be a very difficult match, considering that the two teams are fighting for the top position in the standings and it is very difficult to predict the winner.

Al-Ittihad vs Al-Nassr match will take place tomorrow. The latter should win comfortably, given their star power, but Al Ittihad has performed exceptionally well so far in this season. I was searching for odds, but so far none of the sportsbooks have provided the same for this match. I wanted to see how much lopsided are the odds for Al Ittihad. Although Al Nassr would be the overwhelming favorites, given their top form Al Ittihad has a significant chance to get some points out of this match. But we need to see the odds, before deciding whether to bet on this match or not.

Difficult to take a side in the confrontation between Will Smith and Chris Rock.
Dunno, for me it wasn't hard to take a side because Smith is obviously wrong there and there is no excuse for his behavior. But since he was insecure and wanted to appear "man" in his wife's eyes (while she is having affairs with other men lol), he did that stupid thing were he end up looking even more pathetic.

The justification given by Will Smith is that Chris Rock made offensive comments about the appearance of his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. He made comments regarding her hair, and Smith was offended because Jada's hair loss condition resulted from a medical issue (Alopecia). Anyway, I believe that both the sides are wrong here. No one should make fun of medical conditions, and at the same time, it is not civilized manner to respond by slapping people who make such comments. Anyway, hopefully this year's award ceremony will be devoid of such incidents.

First of the three Women's League Exhibition matches will be played today at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium today. Bismah Maroof will be leading the Amazons, while Nida Dar is the captain of the Super Women. These exhibition matches are being played as a preparation to the WPSL, which will start sometime by September 2023. A total of 5 teams will be competing in the main tournament after 6 months and it is expected that a number of top overseas players from Australia and South Africa will take part.

Enjoying the WPL but also witnessing a big gap in Indian and overseas talent (barring few). The enormous gap in fielding when sprinting or taking a catch, it also connected with running between the wickets.

On bowling way too bad when it comes to line n length. When it comes to batting Oh boy! there are some stark differences there when you look at SR. Hope these local girls are taking notes.

The gap is not between Indian and overseas players, but between capped and uncapped players. Overseas players in general have performed well till now, as most of them have prior experience in WBBL and W100. Fielding needs a lot of improvement and I don't think that we will witness a very large change within the next 1-2 seasons. It would have been a good idea to include 5 overseas players in the XI. But then the BCCI put additional rider that one of the players should be from associate nation. Given the aversion towards associate players from the IPL franchises, only one of them have used this loophole to increase the overseas quota to 5 (Delhi Capitals Women, who brought in Tara Norris).

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has entered in to a deal with Sony Sports for media rights during the 2023-2027 cycle. The deal is worth only around $23 million, although there was a bidding war between Sony and Disney Star. Now the attention will be shifting to BCCI and PCB tenders, which will come out in the next few months. Currently the BCCI is having a 5-year deal with Disney-Star for 2018-2023, which is worth ₹6,277 crore. For the next cycle (2024-2028), we can expect this amount to increase by manytimes.

For me, it doesn't matter if Bangladesh has already qualified or not. I still expected a better performance from Bangladesh against England. Of course, Bangladesh was unable to provide that type of performance. At least in the first two, it can be said that the performance of Bangladesh is below average in ODI right now. And with this type of performance, Bangladesh is not going to go very far in the world cup.

Bangladesh is now in the 4th position of the standing and qualified for the world cup.

For the current season (2020-2023) of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, Bangladesh started well with wins against tough opposition back in 2020 and 2021. And that is the reason why they are currently at the 4th place in points table. But their recent performances have been disappointing. Being a test member, Bangladesh receives around $16 million per year from the ICC (2015-2023 cycle). This money is not being spent productively. If the funds were used for grass-roots development, then the performance would have shown significant improvement by now.
4436  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: It's on! 2024 US Presidential Election Biden+Harris Vs Trump Bitcoin betting.... on: March 08, 2023, 02:34:21 AM
Quote
I do not think the US are ready for a female president.

I'd rate that outcome as highly improbable also though its more an insult to the popular demographic then the candidates themselves.   There is also the important point the induvial matters most of all even with the possibly negative bias that a women has, its still about their speeches, the tone and feeling they invoke with their presence vs a crowd and aspirations voters might have.   Did we really think USA was going to elect Obama prior to his presidential run, that really didnt make sense to predict but it happened.   It began to make alot more sense when you were giving yourself the benefit of listening to the speeches of that person, Obama was way ahead in his ability to get popular response to his campaign points.

At this point, both the major parties don't have a female candidate who is qualified enough to run for the POTUS elections in 2024. Those on the Democrat side such as Kamala Harris and Amy Klobuchar are too far to the left to be elected. And Republicans don't have anyone from their side. I can think about Ivanka Trump and Nikki Haley, but these two would struggle to garner support from their own party. In all probability, both the Republican and Democrat nominee for the 2024 elections would be male (and in case of Democrats, it is 99% confirmed that Biden will be re-running).
4437  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA World Cup 2026 :Canada/Mexico/United States: Discussion Thread on: March 08, 2023, 02:24:35 AM
Yes, the 2026 world cup still has a long time lag, with an increase in quota rations for Asian countries. at least we will witness first, when the teams mentioned in this post play their matches at the 2023 Asian Cup.

even the Qatar national team, has the potential to qualify and take part in the 2026 world cup later. because, after all they were the 2019 Asian Cup finalists who toppled the teams we mentioned in this thread. or maybe, team squads from other Asian countries also have the opportunity to qualify for the World Cup later. so, I will not speculate in advance, despite the fact, Japan, Iran, South Korea, Australia, Saudi Arabia, are teams that have always been representatives of Asian countries that have qualified for the World Cup championship tournament.

While it is true that the quota for Asia has been increased from 2026 edition onwards, I would still claim that the continent continues to be under-represented. Asia is given 8 1⁄3 slots for 2026, while Africa is being provided with 9 1⁄3 slots. Why a larger quota for AFC? Asia is home to more than half of the world's population and they should have been given at least the same number of slots as CAF. Under the current system, CAF will witness the maximum increase in representation for the 2026 World Cup, as their quota goes up to 9 1⁄3 from 5.

Undoubtedly you are underestimating the Indian side just because they lost the third test match. I am pretty much sure the Australian side would be thinking in the same manner  Grin. They did that before the series even started and lost two matches back to back. Just hold your horses before coming into any conclusion. You will get all your answers when the last test match of this tournament start.

Well.. let's see. I never claimed that India will be the underdogs for 4th test. In fact I would say that they are the overwhelming favorites. But there is no doubt that the Australians have been rapidly improvising over time. If they had given enough time to get adjusted and played a few warmup matches before the first test, then I am sure that the first two matches could have been much more competitive. Still, Australia can give a good fight for the 4th match and try to draw the series 2-2 if they manage to win the Ahmedabad test.

Everything else is OK, but I am not sure how can they include pork in a meal that costs just $0.57. Here a small serving of pork costs as much as $1.25 in the most inexpensive restaurant (and I am residing in one of the third world nations). And here one needs to be extra careful while visiting "cheap" restaurants. A few months back, there was case of dog meat being served disguised as mutton. And also there are constant allegations of meat dishes prepared from diseased pigs, buffalo and goats.

So, in about two weeks the qualification games will start. Since I'm from Croatia, I will follow my team more closely than others. Yesterday Croatia's manager Dalić said that he wants to keep the same team which won the bronze medal at the World Cup last year. The only real change is that Lovren said goodbye to the national team. We will see who will get to the starting lineup instead of him.

As for the games, Croatia is in the group D with Turkey, Wales, Latvia and Armenia. I dare to say that Croatia is the group's number 1 favorite. It will be interesting to see how will they play their first two games against Turkey and Wales. I see Turkey as second favorite in this group.

Ideally Croatia should be able to top the group, but you can never predict matches involving Turkey. They are such a volatile team. On their day, thy can defeat strong teams such as Germany. And on other days they will go down to teams like Latvia and Armenia. BTW, I am surprised that Belarus is taking part in the competition. They were banned by FIFA, because they were seen as too "close" to Russia. I am glad that at least UEFA took the right decision here, by distancing sport from politics. They are placed in Group I, along with Switzerland, Israel, Romania, Kosovo and Andorra.
