4421  Economy / Goods / Re: 10 Grams of Premium Kava from Fiji ($2 Shipping) on: November 09, 2012, 12:08:14 PM
Buyers in most European countries please beware that import of Kava preparations is illegal at this point in time.

Question to the seller: Have these been purified to remove the liver toxic piperidine alkaloids?
4422  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Impressive bitcoin one liners for non bitcoiners on: November 09, 2012, 09:54:20 AM
2 coins enter, 1 coin leaves.

In Bitspace, no one can hear you scam.

Bitcoin is like a box of chocolates... ...you never know what you’re gonna get.

Zhou Tong, we've got a problem.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in Bitcoinica.

Be afraid.Be very afraid.

Nice coin. We’ll take it!

Is it just me or does the size of this hand look funky?

Most likely the owner of the hand is fat.

After using a comma you need to continue your sentence in lower case. HTH.
4425  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Controversy Research paper on: November 08, 2012, 02:25:10 PM
See that's the thing. A currency by itself can't be illegal. You can't just go ahead and declare Bitcoin illegal. How would you rationalize such a decision?

Now what you CAN declare illegal is the behaviour of those handling or issuing the currency.

e-gold was killed because the company directors actively facilitated money laundering. Killing the company as the sole issuer killed the currency.

Liberty Dollars was killed because the issuer behaved in a way that was clearly intended to defraud customers. Stopping the issuer stopped the currency.

Bitcoin has no issuer (or philosophically everyone in BTC is an issuer, miners by proof of work and users by way of trust). So there's no one to kill or stop (or everyone).

Bitcoin itself is just a digital expression of trust into ownership and value. You can't declare trust illegal. You'd have to prohibit the whole concept of trading itself to be illegal first. And that's something even communism didn't/couldn't do.
4426  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Controversy Research paper on: November 08, 2012, 01:45:09 PM
yea but people are considering bitcoin to be money laundering too  Huh

e-gold was a proprietary currency administrated, recognized and traded through and by a single company (e-gold ltd.). Shut down the company, and you shut down the currency.

Bitcoin is an open source peer to peer protocol. Shut down a node, no one cares.
4427  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Controversy Research paper on: November 08, 2012, 01:10:06 PM
No, e-gold was shut down because it was a money laundering service.

Well maybe they have a side business selling fried cats, because goddamn that room is going to get warm.
4429  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer tag: PatrickHarnett on: November 07, 2012, 03:51:02 PM

greyhawk

I don't understand you post.  If you are vouching for MOE-PR.  The please do so.  Looks like this guys could use some friends around here.  I have no idea who he is or what his business is

Basically he runs this: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/MPEx

He's also one of very very few people here who actually behaves like a businessman, instead of just imitating being a business man like most cargo cult followers here.

An assholish, ruthless, opportunistic businessman, I'll give you that, sure, but that IS in huge parts what is needed to BE a businessman.

I think people just don't like him because he also runs an image board, where Romanian escorts and other "erotic service partners" advertise their services.
4430  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer tag: PatrickHarnett on: November 07, 2012, 03:31:22 PM
IF augostocroppo would do an analysis of MOE-PR's posts as he has with CharlieContent he would probably identify similar attributes.  Members trolling these board for their own humor and amusement while really adding nothing to any meaningful conversation.

So the owner of Bitcoins only really existing stock exchange is a "troll" now?

And the user that was shilling for usagi for months and egging her/him/it on with trying to discredit as trolls those who were asking valid questions; that user is now a valuable "analyzer of posts"?

Good to know. I'll update my files accordingly.

*opens documentation to replace "unlikely scam target" with "troll" as well as "likely fraudster" with "honest businessman" and vice versa *
4431  Other / Meta / Re: [To Theymos] I want to be a moderator in the subforum Alternate Crypto... on: November 07, 2012, 12:29:46 PM
You've only reported one post this year alone, so must not be much moderating that needs to be done in your view, so no point in making you a mod.

People can talk a big game, and say they'll moderate this way, or they'll act this way, or they'll do this, but saying =/= doing. Reports would be a great way to show how you intend to moderate.

Interesting approach. In another forum I help moderate we specifically do not make mods out of users who use the report function much, because in our experience this type of user often turns out to be unable to handle the responsibilities of their new powers.
4432  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Bitcopia.com is now live and taking orders! (BTC -> USD and USD -> BTC) on: November 06, 2012, 06:25:59 PM
That's very misleading, don't you think?

Only love.
4433  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Bitcopia.com is now live and taking orders! (BTC -> USD and USD -> BTC) on: November 06, 2012, 06:15:31 PM
You keep saying "we". Am I right in assuming that this exchange is being run by more then one person?
4434  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Bitcopia.com is now live and taking orders! (BTC -> USD and USD -> BTC) on: November 06, 2012, 05:56:53 PM
Wonderful. Another "exchange" with no contact information but a gmail adress and an anonymified registration.

Have fun getting your stuff stolen, kids.

Ouch...

We are registered with the City of Richmond, VA as Bitcopia,

Strange how the Virginia State Corporations Commision has no record of this: https://sccefile.scc.virginia.gov/Find/Business?SearchTerm=bitcopia

I wonder why that is.

4437  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BETA]Bitfinex - Leverage trading with bitcoins on: November 05, 2012, 12:44:03 PM
MPOE-PR is 100% correct.

Icthyo - noooooooooooo. We don't give people the benefit of the doubt with money. It works the other way around. You prove that you're capable of handling money, and then you get some to handle. When we give people the benefit of the doubt we create scenarios like pirate, and the so many other scams (and/or colossal fuckups) we've seen here.

Ichthyo has been shilling for the Bitcoinica Trio for months. I think he has an agenda.
4438  Other / Off-topic / Re: Ideas needed for relaunching homelessjackie.com on: November 05, 2012, 11:54:39 AM
You could produce a sitcom where there is a home where everyone is looking for a Jackie that should be there but isn't. Home less Jackie.
4439  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scammer tag: PatrickHarnett on: November 05, 2012, 11:51:21 AM
Now that Standards & Poor has to pay back investors for their false ratings, it should be pretty obvious to require Harnett to pay back pirate investors for his false ratings.

I concur with Finn. This looks like a prank site.
