4421  Economy / Economics / Re: Will crypto lead to the next financial crisis? on: May 30, 2021, 02:49:01 AM
It may or may not happen, but definitely not now nor the next year or two. The crypto market is still a small market. Considering that it is global in scope and that it is made up of thousands of different projects, a trillion market cap is still considered low. Who are the players in the Bitcoin market, for example? There are a few institutions, huge names in finance, some in technology, and the rest are retail investors. I don't know how it could trigger a financial crisis. Perhaps in the decades to come when the market cap is already reaching hundreds of trillions.
4422  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Paypal is going to allow users to withdraw coin to other wallet on: May 30, 2021, 02:01:18 AM
Global payments giant PayPal plans to let users withdraw cryptocurrency to third-party wallets, its blockchain lead said.

The term is a bit confusing, do they mean sending cryptocurrency to any wallet/address (both non-custodial or custodial wallet)? Anyway, i hope they won't they anything ridiculous such as threatening to close their account if they deem user use the coin for things they don't like (deposit to casino, withdraw to coinjoin wallet, etc.).

By third-party wallets, PayPal must be referring to wallets other than PayPal, "to the destination of their choice," as their executive, Jose Fernandez da Ponte, said.

I am also hoping that there will be no discrimination of crypto funds on the basis of where it is coming from, unless there is enough reason to flag it. Currently, my local wallet implements a policy of not allowing deposits and withdrawals involving gambling sites. It's a huge hassle for someone who gambles like me. But then, I guess it's about legal requirements as opposed to wallet preference.
4423  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: ANn thread developed using imgur images - is it a right way to do it? on: May 30, 2021, 01:17:31 AM
Wait a minute, your hired someone to create a bounty thread here. Was he/she able to deliver? Because if he/she did then the BB codes of all the images used on that page should be accessible by anybody. Can anybody post an image here without using BB codes?

As far as I know, a lot of ANN and bounty threads here use imgur images. There's no problem with that for as long as the images appear on the page properly bearing all the necessary information.

Also, what was your agreement? Was he/she hired for that page alone? Because if he/she was paid to make the bounty thread and he/she delivered fully, then it wouldn't be his/her problem anymore if you have a hard time creating materials for your social media, registration, signature codes, and so on.
4424  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another guy talking about bitcoin founder! on: May 29, 2021, 01:10:00 PM
Anyway, Bitcoin is actually a creation of the CIA.

What proof do you have for that? As far as I know, that agency does some other business and has nothing to do with Bitcoin - like probably any US agency that they are trying to put in that context. Read what Snowden discovered about Bitcoin, maybe then some things will become clearer to you.

LOL. I wasn't expecting you to take the bait. I was expecting OP to bite another crap and respond to it seriously.

You know, first and foremost, you cannot get into a serious discussion if the topic is one which is merely inspired by a good-for-nothing tiktok video. Secondly, there is more reason to believe that Theymos rather than Vladimir Putin is Satoshi Nakamoto. Wink
4425  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Most of your coins are going to be worthless in years. on: May 29, 2021, 03:01:06 AM
Of course, there is no need pointing this out. As you said, this is common sense.

During the golden days of ICO in 2017, the crypto market is flooded with all kinds of crypto projects offering their own tokens. You could imagine the world is indeed turning into blockchain and everything is already tokenized. Crypto projects widely vary. There are those which focused on tokenizing the music industry, real estate, transportation, ticketing system, and so on.

And there are also those which focused on tokenizing health, agriculture, textile industry, VR, reward system, streaming, gaming industry, porn, and probably hundreds more.

Billions and billions of USD flowed into these projects. More or less a year later, 99% of them had died. This is no different from the kind of hype that characterizes NFT, DeFi, and others.
4426  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another guy talking about bitcoin founder! on: May 29, 2021, 02:21:39 AM
Crap, absolute crap! Well, tiktok is full of it.

What's funnier is that you are biting it. You've made the joke into a serious conspiracy theory. Putin is not Satoshi. Putin has nothing to do with Bitcoin whatsoever. For goodness' sake, Putin cannot even code. Bitcoin will not break any government.

Anyway, Bitcoin is actually a creation of the CIA.
4427  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: To be honest about Investing on: May 29, 2021, 01:30:45 AM
It is hard to convince people of something which is contrary to what is happening in reality. Crypto is one way to take your money? One year ago, Bitcoin is less than $10,000. Today, the price is $36,000. And that's already a correction price. And if you zoom the charts out further, you will realize that there must have been a lot of new millionaires and even billionaires around the world thanks to cryptocurrency alone.

Anyway, why so bitter? People cannot stay with fiat. Inflation gnaws away its value non-stop.
4428  Economy / Economics / Re: The Central Digital currencies will make monetary policy more difficult on: May 28, 2021, 03:47:48 AM
With the new digital central currencies such as yuan, euro, dollar,... anyone could potentially hold an account on a central bank skipping the intermediaries. I think that this will have a negative effect on the ability to cope with further crisis by monetary policies. The risk should not be ignored.

Did you by any chance read such a troubling feature in any of the developing CBDCs right now? Or is this something you merely suspect would happen with the new government digital currencies?

Personally, I don't find any reason why any individual is given the special chance to have a direct central bank account. Also, it is next to impossible to kill intermediaries for so many reasons. In the first place, the central bank has no say in terms of how money is to be distributed. Secondly, intermediary banks have lots of roles to play in the day-to-day financial life of people. Furthermore, you cannot make the likes of JPMorgan, Wells Fargo, Citibank, Bank of America, and others irrelevant.
4429  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Perfect Bitcoin on: May 28, 2021, 02:53:30 AM
What if satoshi nakamoto looks at Bitcoin today. What would he or she change? Why? The making of a perfect Bitcoin?

We'll never know. What I'm kinda sure of is that Satoshi seemed a reasonable person/people who enjoyed discussing ideas with others. He/She/They would probably openly take suggestions and even criticisms from credible individuals and objectively respond to it. So if there is anything Satoshi would change about Bitcoin today, I'm more than sure it is always for the improvement of the creation and the end-users. Anyway, I don't think there'd ever be a state of a fully perfect Bitcoin. Everything keeps on rolling. Developments are always happening one after another.
4430  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: There are not even 21M BTCs, I'd say max.17M BTCs available at a given time on: May 28, 2021, 02:04:07 AM
Bitcoin is already scarce even if everything is already available in circulation right now. 21 million Bitcoin is still considered a low supply. The world is made up of billions and billions of people and narrow money alone is already worth tens of trillions. If you include everything, it may even reach beyond a quadrillion. So there's really so much room to grow for Bitcoin's price. Not to mention that only a very small portion of the world's population and wealth are currently into Bitcoin.

Losing Bitcoin is unavoidable. Satoshis will be lost on a daily basis, and once lost, it is lost forever. There is no way a new batch of Satoshis will be minted to replace those lost Sats. On this basis, we may consider Bitcoin as a deflationary currency. That's in terms of supply.

Thanks for noticing. But little did you know that I actually saved the better number. Wink

I am actually keeping a remembrance of my tiny milestones in this forum.
4432  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Legends and Veterans. Seeking wisdom... on: May 28, 2021, 12:41:18 AM
Neither a legend (except this account but it doesn't mean much so ignore the rank) nor a veteran here, but if I were to encourage my newbie self a few years ago, I'd tell him/her to be more steadfast with Bitcoin. For as long as Bitcoin is still valued in terms of fiat, it is still young. Ignore the price fluctuations. Time will come goods and services would be priced in Satoshis. In a system of rotting fiat, Bitcoin is a diamond. But, of course, you wouldn't come to such conclusion without knowing Bitcoin first. So first things first.
4433  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance on: May 27, 2021, 01:44:49 PM
I do have a PayPal account. IDK they sold BTC?

They do. Since you are from the US, you can buy BTC through PayPal except if you are from Hawaii. But I don't recommend PayPal because, at least for now, you are not allowed to withdraw your Bitcoin to your wallet of choice. It's up to you, though.

Quote
Can you recommend a escrow service? I've never used one? I want to buy about $400 worth of BTC to send to my electrum account.

Please take time to read at least a few threads on this board: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=53.0. If you are already familiar with how things work, you may open one for yourself or reply to someone who is selling Bitcoin 1:1.

The list of trusted escrows is here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2439910.0. You may also check Escrow Service of Bl4nkcode [Active]. You may disregard the use of escrow if you are dealing with a high rank and highly trusted member, though.

Yes, you may choose to have your BTC sent to your Electrum address. Just make sure you downloaded your Electrum wallet from no other than https://electrum.org/, kept more than a single copy of your seed somewhere safe, and double checked the address.
4434  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Bitcoin Naturally Defined By 4 Year Boom And Bust Cycles on: May 27, 2021, 03:59:25 AM
This looks interesting, but, honestly, I don't think there is something more to this than mere coincidence. I mean, those things that you mentioned which apparently played a major role in the price movements of Bitcoin didn't take place following a schedule. In no way anybody could have predicted those events to happen. They just happened.

Also, I think it is hard for one to create a technical prediction or a time frame for the price of Bitcoin using fundamentals.
4435  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What's your favorite way to earn Cryptos? on: May 27, 2021, 03:22:28 AM
Well, I don't have many ways to earn crypto right now. But since you're asking for my favorite way to earn crypto, I guess it is this thing that I am doing at this very moment: creating a post and get paid for it. Isn't it sweet?

There's also a different kind of thrill when I do trading, mostly scalping or swing trade. But many a times, I get caught in certain positions which force me to just hodl for some time before converting altcoins back to Bitcoin.

Right now, I am trying to get back investing into new coins but I'm still studying. I noticed how shitcoins are growing in value by the hundreds, if not thousands, in terms percentage very quickly. That must be a nice way to increase my worth in Bitcoin.
4436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Mining Council on: May 27, 2021, 02:51:55 AM
There's nothing wrong with this initiative. It's worth applauding, on the contrary. The future generations deserve a cleaner world. We owe it to them.

However, I hope this does not spark another basis for discrimination. I hope this won't give rise to another clean:dirty Bitcoin dichotomy. A Bitcoin mined using coal-generated energy is the same Bitcoin mined using solar power.

I guess the criticisms directed to this council are basically triggered by the fact that the infamous Elon is part of it.
4437  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [ BOXING POLL ADDED ] JOSHUA vs USYK on: May 27, 2021, 02:21:44 AM
This is a good tune-up fight for whoever he is going to face on the winner of the Fury - Wilder match, but we all know Joshua got a huge upset from Ruiz, and Usyk is a much better fight than Ruiz, so Joshua must be very careful not to get caught in an upset, he is the heavy favorite but Usyk is an undefeated and can pull out an upset.
Just like what others been saying about upset is likely and you are right that Usyk is much better than Ruiz when it comes to technicalities and speed and if AJ's fighting style hadn't changed wayback then most likely he would be KO'ed again this time.

Ruiz KOed Joshua in their first fight and Joshua UDed Ruiz in their second. It may look like Joshua did not completely avenge his first loss but if we look at the fight, it was a total domination, a show of boxing skills, from Joshua. As a matter of fact, 2 judges scored the fight 118-110 in favor of Joshua, meaning Ruiz only won a couple of rounds. The other judge scored 119-109 in favor of Joshua, meaning Joshua won 11 rounds and Ruiz only 1.

Upsets do happen but they do not happen most of the time. If Usyk's only hope is an upset, then he'd most likely lose. I doubt Usyk could KO Joshua. It's a matter of luck. On the other hand, Joshua has got what it takes to defeat Usyk, even KO him.
4438  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Binance on: May 27, 2021, 01:39:51 AM
Did you make sure you are using Binance.us and not Binance.com?

Binance needs your number because they will send you your one-time verification code there.

Anyway, if you have a payment option other than a debit card, say, PayPal, you might want to do the buying here. Please check the Currency exchange board. There are 1:1 ($1 of fiat: $1 of BTC) offers there. That way, you could avoid buying BTC with high premium from exchanges. Please use escrow.
4439  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Paypal is going to allow users to withdraw coin to other wallet on: May 27, 2021, 01:12:58 AM
I was expecting this to happen from the very first day PayPal entered into cryptocurrency. As I was thinking, they are doing things step by step. The first step was letting some of their users buy, sell, and hodl crypto exclusively within their platform. That seemed to be a stupid idea to someone who has already been familiar with how cryptocurrencies should work. But I supposed those PayPal people who have carefully studied crypto should have already known beforehand that what they are offering is foolishness as far as what crypto represents. And they won't stick to it. They'd eventually do the right thing.
4440  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What the CEO of a Gold mining company has to say about Bitcoin on: May 26, 2021, 01:50:32 PM
It is easy to agree to all the things that you mentioned. I don't understand why a lot of gold bugs cannot appreciate the unique qualities of Bitcoin which make it a lot more advantageous than gold in many aspects.

The list could actually go on. We could also mention that Bitcoin is literally a lot safer to own than gold. You can own Bitcoin and sleep in the streets at night. Moreover, you could stay significantly anonymous keeping your wealth in Bitcoin rather than gold. You can keep even a million Bitcoin to yourself alone without even your wife-- who you cannot trust at times-- knowing. Your gold could also be seized, robbed from you a lot more easily than Bitcoin.

Anyway, gold is not a stone or a rock. Gold is a metal. And I think I don't agree that since we are already in the 21st century we could do away with all these precious rocks and metals. After all, their value goes beyond their face value.
