4441  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Epiks - If you were scammed by him please read! (Don't trade with him) on: October 29, 2012, 03:50:28 PM
I remember this thread being A LOT bigger of an OP? CoinCleaner, did you edit this once you were able to scam someone? You initially had written about knowing Epiks IRL? Pathetic.

Google has it starting like this: Hello all, I personally know epiks and I need to tell you what happened. He has asked me to share this. Some of you knew him and knew he was very well

This:

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:qWIha3Fx7BYJ:https://bitcointalk.org/index.php%3Ftopic%3D121031.0+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

Hello all,

I personally know epiks and I need to tell you what happened. He has asked me to share this.

Some of you knew him and knew he was very well trusted. He always did honest trades and never once even had a "hiccup" with a transaction.

Point is, he is a good guy.

(This is epiks talking aka Jeff)

Hey guys, during the period where a member (I hope there was only one and not more) got scammed by my account I had been on vacation with my girlfriend. We were in hawaii for two weeks and I didn't even have my computer. I normally spend 14+hrs a day on my computer so I promised my girlfriend (now fiancee) that I would not bring my computer. The vacation would be all about us.

During this period we had her brother house sit for us (my future brother in law)

I came home to find  that my big screen TV was pawned, my nice clothes were gone, my desktop, dedicated server unit, and laptop....ALL GONE.

I didn't file a police report because my fiancee begged me not to.

All my passwords were stored on my computer so he had complete access. So not only did he drain my paypal account, he also was fu**ing around here on my bitcointalk account. He was the one who scammed, not me, aka the real epiks.

HOWEVER, I take complete and full responsibility. Even tho it wasn't myself who did it, I still feel responsible since it was done thru my account and it was my stupid mistakes like leaving his passwords stored that helped him gain access to my accounts.

I want to make this right. If the "epiks" account did you wrong in any way, please contact me at ccphazed@gmail.com

Even tho my paypal is already drained and now limited, hopefully I can make things up to you by eventually returning your money and hopefully a little extra to show my sorrow for what happened.

Again, I did not do the scamming but I take responsibility because it was still done under my name. Something that could have been avoided if I had not stored passwords or left my computer around a known thief (you never think family would steal from you....that was also a mistake to thinkk that)

So please, if you were scammed, contact me at ccphazed@gmail.com, tell me what happened and I;ll try and work things out. I could have just walked away and said f*ck it. But I didn't, my morals would not allow it. I couldn't with a clear conscious let this go unfixed.

Again, mail me all the details and amounts and we will get this fixed. Just please be honest, im hoping a bunch of ppl dont pop up that werent even scammed just looking for a payment. And please be honest with the amounts. I plan on paying back extra, im not rich at the moment but you WILL be paid back in full + extra for the trouble.

PLEASE NOTE* I still do NOT have access to that account (epiks) or the email. So DO NOT trade with him! Do not even respond to him if he contacts you. Its not the REAL epiks. I Can send you a picture of my drivers license showing I'm the real Jeffrey.

Quoted because I remember reading this earlier today.

How does one advertise on ogrr?
4443  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: GLBSE: does someone have a synopsis? on: October 29, 2012, 03:10:03 PM
I stood up at the Conference after nefario gave his talk about the wonders of GLBSE and told him point blank that:

a) Not having lawyers is ridiculous and he needed to get some ASAP.

b) Publicly stating that he would actively avoid regulation by moving the company around was probably illegal. (Even more so considering he thought there was no regulation that covered GLBSE and so he could just move the company when such regulation appeared, when in fact regulations DO already exist covering what he does)

After his talk a few of us had a chance to talk to him directly and he didn't have any answers for very pointed questions. One gentleman asked him directly how he could keep his relationship with his investments if GLBSE closed: No clear answer.

Basically, Synopsis? It was illegal, and he didn't know it until the government came and said, "Oh hi! You're a criminal". Thus came the end of GLBSE.

so all this is your fault    ?

hahaha, for stating the obvious? No. I don't think so. I wasn't the only one who immediately realized the whole thing was a terrible cluster-fuck waiting to happen. Durring the presentation nefario didn't even know many finance terms that someone who does finance would consider second nature. Maybe it was nerves, but he was blanking on some pretty basic concepts. There were quite a number of very wide eyes you could see instantly putting the pieces together.

So basically conference=suicide.

I don't know about hyperdeflated. Bitcoin inflation for the past year is something like 40% isn't it?
4446  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Is there an alternative to GLBSE which does not charge 8.5 BTC to launch an IPO? on: October 29, 2012, 08:06:39 AM
Is there an alternative to GLBSE which does not charge 8.5 BTC to launch an IPO? If not, is the GLBSE open source and could it be forked to create a new similar but free platform?

Yes.  Grin
4447  Economy / Goods / Re: [Closing: Last Call] Accepting BTC and LTC for surplus technology on: October 28, 2012, 09:03:16 PM
On the SA forum, it's quite clear that he (along with everyone else there) thinks that Bitcoin is a joke and BTC users are a bunch of idiots who will fall for any scam. Not only does that make me think that he is not serious about delivering, and may just be trolling the users here, but even if he is genuinely interested in selling, fuck him for his opinions and contempt, and fuck his whole business. If customers are OK with buying from someone who thinks so poorly of them, that's their problem, but at least they should know it.

Bitcoin bans Something Awful?!
Da fuck do we care about their opinions lol. Their opinions are a dime a dozen, if we don't like those they have others. We have the money. End of story.
4448  Other / Off-topic / Re: Roger Ver, ex-con? on: October 28, 2012, 08:41:23 PM
I vote to move this thread to the trash can and theymos, I'd gladly take GOAT back if you ban this FUD mongerer MOE-PR

Dude, seriously, who the fuck are you again? I must have missed the moment when you did something I should care about. Or at least remember or something.
4449  Other / Off-topic / Re: Roger Ver, ex-con? on: October 28, 2012, 07:25:20 PM
All this does is strengthen my association of "ex-con" with living in a police state. It no longer has any automatic negative connotation.

It would seem that conviction speaks louder against the US Govt than against Mr. Ver.

I found the original post particularly offensive.

This is yet another reason that when your ignore button gets dark enough the user should automatically be given the douche bag tag and their posts should not longer be visable anywhere unless other users click on them.

MOE-PR - You should change that subject line too.

What exactly is your problem?

4454  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Let's have a little fun then, shall we. on: October 28, 2012, 03:06:39 PM
Have these adverts had any effect MPOE-PR?

Maybe. How would you quantify such a thing?

It's called tracking. But like it is now you can't track anything.

We're not tracking users nor do we intend to.
4455  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Announcing mpx.fm, buy music with your bitcoins on: October 28, 2012, 03:05:54 PM
Probably some fleshing out of those "some" would help.
4456  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BETA]Bitfinex - Leverage trading with bitcoins on: October 28, 2012, 03:05:12 PM
-the trust issue: yes, MPOE lady you are right, this is a big issue. At this point I don't see what I could do more than exposing my full name, address and photo, and being as transparent as I can. For those who feel this is not enough (and I understand you), maybe you can wait until we're a registered company.

The problem here is that you seem to be starting from a point of "I shall be doing this" and then consider what could bolster your position. This is completely wrong and wholly unacceptable: you should not be doing this. At all. It is a horribly bad idea to be doing this. It can't end well. It's running with scissors as a four year old with a bad knee and a broken ankle on an old stairwell made of long-rotten pinewood which has lots of ice splotches on top of it during an earthquake at sea in rough weather on a wet deck with hurricane level winds blowing portside.

Maybe one day you might find yourself in the position of being a world-renowned acrobat who can run with scissors up and down an old stairwell made out of rotten pinewood with ice splotches in rough sea etc. Maybe. Provided you are born tall and lanky and with a talent for ballet, and your parents send you to the proper schools from a fresh young age and you are muchly interested in all that's required to become thusly acrobatically accomplished and are very disciplined and get lucky enough to amass the right sort of experience then possibly, maybe, sometime, one day, you might meet this opportunity of your life and thus dance on the proverbial rotten pinewood stairwell (with ice on it).

So, practically: forget about this project. Close it down. Go read up on finance, go read up on computer programming, on security, on business management, on law. Start small, prove that you can correctly handle fifty bitcoins over the span of A FEW YEARS. Then move into larger and larger things until one day you can maybe, if you're still inclined and it's still fashionable, try this.

Nobody cares that you register a company. It makes no damned difference, in the time it took me to type out this I could have registered five. A monkey with a funny hat can register a company. It's a fifty dollar expenditure in most US states, it's the practical equivalent of organizing a dinner with your ex who happens to be visiting your town. It adds precisely zero to your overall chances to not end up in a sad, sad position a few months down the road.

Why drag a bunch of people with you?
4457  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BITCOIN MAGAZINE ARRIVED! on: October 28, 2012, 02:47:15 PM
Overall I'm happy with the magazine but don't forget the proofreading guys!

This comment makes me wonder what would it take for you to not be happy with the magazine, pretty or otherwise.

Well, I didn't have very high expectations to begin with. Creating a "professional" magazine, publishing it monthly and delivering it world wide is no easy task. It's not a big media company that started this, it's a few guys who had never done it before. I did not order a 12 month subscription since I thought that there was a substantial risk that 12 issues would never happen and I also thought that it would be incredibly hard to fill a monthly magainze with quality articles related to Bitcoin.

That said, I really want to encourage initiatives like this 'cause I think that it's great for Bitcoin. I'm happy to point out what can be improved but in general there is just too much negativity on this forum. I'm impressed with a lot of what they've done and I like to focus on that.

Hey, nice attitude. Stick with it while it lasts.
4458  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: GLBSE closed for good on: October 28, 2012, 02:34:48 PM
Any updates?

That's what the Bitcoin motto should be, engraved on all the coins. No in god we trust, no dieu et mon droit, no nemo me impune lacessit.
ANY NEWS???
4459  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Nefario on: October 28, 2012, 02:30:52 PM
So no, it doesnt make much sense to me to be pleased running with that amount of money. If he would be some schoolkid, running his first ponzi ok, but not a familyman with responsibility for wife and kids.

The guy is notorious for acting without any thinking.
4460  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Investing in Mircea Popescu's Options Emporium on: October 28, 2012, 02:17:56 PM
It's not so clear, because you can not see my full position. I can be long BTC at 9 and sell CALL @ 12.

That's for sure.
