4441  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Making valentine's day memorable with bitcoins. on: February 06, 2022, 03:03:20 PM
For most women, Valentine's day is a very special day — and good lord please don't use this as an opportunity to shove Bitcoin down their throats. You're better off sharing Bitcoin at literally any other day besides Christmas and Valentines.
4442  Economy / Economics / Re: Facebook ("Meta") down 25% in a day on: February 06, 2022, 07:36:23 AM
I'm a bit skeptic regarding the recent project that Meta has entered - the so called metaverse - and how it will pay out in the future. They already spent $10 billion[4] on it and I'm unsure how they wider audience will embrace this kind of technology. I guess it remains to be seen...

While it's definitely a mixture of multiple things, I'm guessing that the reason for the huge drop was mostly this metaverse thing. Institutional investors like predictable growth, whereas this metaverse bet brought a lot of uncertainty on how much revenues the company will have in the future.
4443  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Old phishing scam on the rise on centralized exchanges on: February 06, 2022, 03:53:33 AM
In my opinion, this trick may be outdated but there should be a reason why he decided to share this with everyone. This can happen to any other exchange.

Or like to any other platform in general, inside and outside the cryptocurrency space. Human trickery is still the most effective hacking/scamming method simply because a lot of people refuse to educate themselves, and rather learn the hard way.
4444  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Legit Btc Mixer/Washer wanted on: February 06, 2022, 03:39:12 AM
Not to shill my signature, but as far as I know ChipMixer is still the best mixer currently available(correct me if I'm wrong).

And you don't even need to take my word for it. Check out this one guy that managed to break mixing services, whereas he/she couldn't break ChipMixer.

4445  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is NFT real store of value on: February 06, 2022, 03:35:40 AM
I'm guessing the person who told you that NFTs are a store of value is trying to compare NFTs to physical art. In the end, whether the asset you hold being able to hold it's value or not will totally depend on what specific asset you bought, not necessarily the asset class. A Picasso painting might(idk, no idea about the art market) be able to hold it's value really well, while a painting by a random person wouldn't(note that there's likely zero demand in the first place).
4446  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Binance CEO Warns Users About Phishing Scam on: February 06, 2022, 03:26:00 AM
CZ Binance didn't reveal how the phishing scammers were able to get the phone numbers of binance users.  Was binance breached? If so, how much data was exposed? I don’t believe an attack on Binance security was ever mentioned.
There has been numerous breaches concerning cryptocurrency service-related accounts for a while now, the biggest probably being Ledger. Phishers are most likely using the emails collected from those breaches, not necessarily emails collected from a Binance breach(which hasn't happened yet, as far as I know).

I have to ask how safe is our bitcoins on centralized exchanges, how safe is our information (kyc) on these exchanges?
Quick answer: It's not. It never was.

Ah, FreeWallet. Probably literally the worst cryptocurrency wallet that ever existed.

4449  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CRYPTO COFFEE & CRYPTO MENU on: February 05, 2022, 07:25:28 AM
Contrarian opinion to the responses but while I like the acceptance of cryptocurrency payments, lol the food naming based on cryptocurrencies is actually so unnecessarily cheesy that it's so bad.
4450  Economy / Economics / Re: Apple IOS updates affecting Tech companies earnings on: February 05, 2022, 03:56:28 AM
And rightfully so. I'm really not that against targeted advertising(because it's useful as hell, and could be morally/ethically sound if done well), but Meta Platforms really took it too far when it comes to "knowing" their Facebook/Instagram users.

^Though it's also partly the regulators fault for not giving clear limits on what data these companies can and can not collect.
4451  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it just me or people are out of liquidity ( money ) ? on: February 05, 2022, 03:49:59 AM
The likes of Amazon, Apple, and Sea Limited(Shopee, Lazada competitor; pretty much Asia's eBay+Amazon) had record breaking revenues in their 2021 Q4 reports. I'm pretty sure certain select cities/countries are definitely having their challenges, but I don't think it's the case when talking global-wise.
4452  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin evangelist Michael Saylor says crypto regulations would speed adoption on: February 05, 2022, 03:17:28 AM
He somewhat has a point. I'm guessing that some institutional investors are very undecided with bitcoin/crypto is due to the regulatory uncertainty. Simply having clearer regulations regardless if positive or negative will give them a better assessment if bitcoin would be a "good" investment or not risk/reward-wise.
4453  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Distribution on: February 05, 2022, 02:54:58 AM
Fun fact: Bitcoin doesn't really solve wealth inequality. People with lots of money will obviously be able to buy/invest more into a certain asset than most retail. But at the very least, people(or at least, most) have access to investing in bitcoin(and cryptocurrencies) from the get go; compared to most traditional financial assets where you'd actually need to be in certain jurisdictions, and sometimes even need to have certain certifications.
4454  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano Recovery Failed? Help needed on: February 05, 2022, 02:45:12 AM
I put the recovery phrase in on the ledger device NOT on the software. But when I completed the process and went to the main portfolio page, it was blank. I then added new accounts for bitcoin and ethereum thinking that they would show the balance I had but they were both empty. I did not use a passphrase and I have not tried using electrum.org wallet yet. I'm hoping for a simple solution to a very stressful problem.

Good. Do it again, you might have entered it in a wrong order or something like that. Let's just hope you didn't make a mistake in the backup part.

Do you have a copy of any of your addresses by any chance? So we could at least verify if you actually got hacked or not.
4455  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano Recovery Failed? Help needed on: February 04, 2022, 05:35:51 PM
What bitmover said. This specific part makes me very antsy — hopefully you didn't actually enter in the recovery phrase by typing it out on Ledger Live, because if you did, you pretty much downloaded a fraudulent software masquerading as the legitimate Ledger Live software.

I redownloaded the ledger live software and put in my recovery phrase correctly but my ledger live portfolio is now empty.
4456  Local / Pilipinas / Re: $2.5B in stolen BTC from Bitfinex hack awakens on: February 04, 2022, 05:05:20 PM

And since 2019 pa ito, hindi natin alam kung madali rin bang ibreak ung mga ibang existing mixers.

4457  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin theft and mobile phone on: February 04, 2022, 05:00:54 PM
If a man trusted his family, he would give them access to his wallet. And then he would not have been poisoned by drugs, and he could have died.

Probably not enough trust to literally hand over the exchange account's credentials or the wallet's private keys, but trusted enough to be live in the same home/room and probably give access to the phone's pin. Obviously the son still needs to have access to the phone itself, so this is the solution he thought of.
4458  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do bitcoins have promissory notes? on: February 04, 2022, 09:03:53 AM
Talking about trust issues then custodial wallets are not recommended. I may not be of full custody of my crypto funds but it still let me do transactions like send, receive, buy, sell crypto to fiat then cash out in my country since it is regulated by bank.

Well, using exchanges aren't necessarily bad per se; because it's totally understandable that most people will need an easy-to-use on/off ramp. Just make sure you won't end up being a part of the bad side of Bitcoin's history.

4459  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do bitcoins have promissory notes? on: February 04, 2022, 07:04:49 AM
(on the assumption that there are assets)Will short-term promissory notes make settlement smoother?

How will it make settlement smoother? It's not like Bitcoin transaction are slow, and fees aren't close to being bad either especially when we're talking about mid-sized to bigger amounts of money transfers.

If you want to sacrifice centralization for speed, you can already use the likes of Cash App and Coinbase for quick off-chain transactions.
4460  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do bitcoins have promissory notes? on: February 04, 2022, 04:53:54 AM
More like unnecessary. Having a promissory note totally defeats the purpose of being self custody. One of the main advantages of bitcoin is having your bitcoin in a non-custodial wallet so nobody can take your funds away, and that you don't need to trust anyone.
