4461  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: what if the cryptocurrency is the only way to pay on: October 19, 2020, 04:58:51 PM
For crypto to be the only means of payment/buying and selling, that can also be interpreted another way to mean there's going to be the absence of governments in our society, for as long as we have a government ruling over our countries and the economy, fiat currencies will definitely continue to be used.

Cryptocurrencies are decentralized so it's not something the government can control, print or distribute as they please. Thats why there's always going to be a centralized means of payment, which happens to be fiat for now, whether it's digital or online fiat means, but it's what the govt can control, nonetheless adoption in Bitcoin will definitely increase as the years go by, but it and other dex cryptos will most probably remain alternatives to fiat currencies.

Looking at City's game yesterday, pep Guardiola's men still look short of their best, it was a good defensive performance from city, but they were hardly sharp when they attacked the gunners, city have played four games and scored only seven goals, that's quite unlike them and poor based on their standards, I'm pretty sure pep will be asking his boys to improve their sharpness going forward. Kun is obviously back, with Jesus, Laporte and Kevin to join the squad in the coming days, City still remain my title favorites for this season.
even though Manchester United won I felt that they were lacking the intent to win, but in the end Fernandes once again stepped up to save them, and he also made up for missing that penalty early on.
United's game looked set for a draw, I was surprised they got 3 late goals, so if not anything, it shows character and good fighting spirit and that will take some of the pressure off OGS. That being said, Frank Lampard looks to be under some pressure himself atm, dropping unnecessary points in this early stages isn't good for him and Chelsea at all, plus he knows Abramovich has little patience with managers Shocked.
4464  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin genesis block is the ‘New Testament’ of finance on: October 17, 2020, 03:39:15 PM
Fiat currencies are pretty 'vulnerable' to inflation and hyperinflation, but imo that doesn't mean that everything about it is bad or that Bitcoin is a better form of "money". Don't get me wrong, I know that Bitcoin annuls the interference of a third party and gives it's users responsibility and control of their funds on the network, but it's also a speculative asset, what about it's risks concerns and how volatile it can be, etc, all this is also a bad side and anti-Bitcoiners never fail to bring it up to demean btc.

That being said, the both forms of money is useful in our contemporary society, Bitcoin and Fiat, Bitcoin can be used as a hedge to fiat when it's losing value/depreciating, which is a great opportunity for Bitcoin users, but mind you that fiat currencies still remains a necessity, be it in our daily activities or to meet basic daily needs and other whatnots, they (Bitcoin & fiat) serve different purposes and diversifying your funds in Bitcoin and Fiat is the best option.
4465  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Using the name atomic, scammers are trying to attack crypto users with viruses.. on: October 17, 2020, 08:31:11 AM
I am curious why they were able to use the yahoo.com domain?
Is it yahoo.com is compromised?
There is no 'special' or strict security protocol required before you can create a Yahoo email address (neither is the domain even security conscious) and the website doesn't have to be hacked or compromised. Mind you that when the scammers create their scam email addreses, it's not possible for the website (domain) to know their intent and that it'll be used to spread phishing links, that's why it's important to report this addresses so they could be marked as a scam email address.
2. Try to ask the sender if he/she send an email with that link of something suspicious.
Imo, just deleting the message and reporting the address is the best thing to do. If you want to confirm whatever was the content of the mail, go through the official website of the company, exchange, wallet etc the scammer was impersonating.
4466  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2020/2021 on: October 17, 2020, 07:02:20 AM
Predictions: BTTS, I think that'd be the best bet, Liverpool have conceded 11 goals already from 4 games, while Everton have scored 12 (joint most with Leicester and Tottenham).
BTTS looks certain to play out in this lunchtime kickoff game looking at how Everton have started this season, scoring many goals, while Liverpool are always expected to get at least a goal per match, but Merseyside derbies are most times tight games, the passion and intensity increases when Everton and Liverpool face each other and sometimes it produces a very tight game with very few goals, we will see how the both managers approach this match, but from a neutral point of view, I want to see a free flowing game.

That being said, Arsenal look like they can grab something from their game with City today, with Kevin de bruyne out, City will definitely miss him in their midfield, though Sergio Aguero is back, but City are never the same without Kevin, last time out, Arteta beat the 'master' in the Fa cup semi-final, do you think he can do the same today again?

4468  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A lesson, disadvantage of storing seed into the device. on: October 16, 2020, 08:07:01 PM
Users need to have a proper and efficient backup of their seed phrases, having it in one place and end up deleting it is pretty careless tbh, as a Bitcoin user, if you feel comfortable storing your seed only in your device, then you must make sure the device is offline and also understand that something bad could happen to your device unexpectedly, for example it could be stolen, formatted mistakingly or could malfunction at anytime, so having an additional backup written down is very necessary.
You want to know who are the people who usually lose coins? The same people who try to invest in every single shitcoin, download a lot of new wallets for those shitcoins and enter all those suspicious sites like mlm, hyip, cloud mining, porn, bitcoin multiplayers, blockchain hacks, you name it.
More reason why Bitcoin users should either have a hw wallet, or more than one device, one to keep wallets, store seed phrases and everything that has to do with their crypto funds; while the other device for their online activities/other whatnots.
4469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Using Cardano as a hedge against Ethereum on: October 16, 2020, 07:17:12 PM
The ethereum network is obviously taking time to launch eth 2.0, but nonetheless, ethereum price is doing pretty good on the market and imo I don't see any reason to use cardano as a hedge to ethereum, it looks more likely to plunge in price than eth. That being said, atm it is prolly the time to accumulate more ethereum rather than cardano if your interest is only in altcoins, eth 2.0 will be launched pretty soon and it can cause a spike in the price of ethereum. On the other hand, if you don't trust eth that much and looking for a hedge if it plunges, then Bitcoin is a good choice to retain the value of your funds/assets.
4470  Other / Meta / Re: 2020 Crazy year for the world. Crazy year for bitcointalk. on: October 15, 2020, 08:49:38 PM
Welcome back xtraelv, +1 to everything in your thread. The year has been crazy, but notwithstanding, I find it very interesting that some big companies have invested in Bitcoin, holding it as their reserve asset, increasing btc adoption via that process. Companies like MicroStrategy, Square etc, check it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5280947.0, fillippone is helping forum users keep track with the big news in that thread.

And also with the pandemic and the 'fall' of traditional economics/currencies, not surprising the Economics and P&S board is quite active with topics on the issue, stimulus bonuses, vaccines etc and lest I forget the forthcoming U.S. elections, the year could still have a good/dramatic end Cool.
4471  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: YouTube’s sleazy decline into scam promotion on: October 15, 2020, 05:24:10 PM
YouTube just like Google has this same problem of not filtering their ads and leaving it to the users to do their research on any ad that appears as they use the app or Google search/chrome for example. It's right about now so obvious that most of this apps or social media platforms will do nothing to address the issue of scam advertisement, so as not to reduce their traffic or reduce the money they are making from them.

That being said, people should accept the responsibility of either totally not using some of this platforms and even if/when they must do, should take up the responsibility of protecting themselves by using ad blocker and ignoring and reporting any giveaway (scam) that asks for deposit first, or ads that ask them for private keys, seed phrases or anything that will compromise their privacy or funds.
4472  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Promote constructive criticism when doing posts or replies, on: October 15, 2020, 04:29:14 PM
A positive critique of a users post will pretty much make that user better, if only they are here to understand the Bitcoin network and other whatnots. But in all honesty, humans will always have a different approach when passing an appraisal, though the harsh method does little to correct the faulter and hampers such person from additional efforts going forward.

That being said, as long as a users isn't a spammer or one that's only in btt to join campaigns, they should be corrected in a positive manner, you'll be surprised that as time passes by, that very user could end up an asset to the community. But mind you also, when you're here to learn about Bitcoin, whatever treatment you receive is somewhat inconsequential, as long as you avoid threads filled with too much drama and concentrate on topics to garner knowledge, you'll have little or no problems. And another solution is: just grow a 'thicker skin'.
4473  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: October 15, 2020, 12:55:35 PM
Bottom line - he'll get a big offer for sure. I just can't seem to understand why.
I wouldn't be surprised if Woodward offered him 500k£ per week to stay.
That's a very possible scenario, just like the deal Manchester United gave to Edinson cavani, which imo, is quite too much for a player i consider to have gone past his peak/best and I don't know what else he can offer Manchester United. That being said, I think Pogba will accept a big deal if it comes, and hence stay put in Manchester United for another couple of years.

Looking at Paul and how he plays this days, with the body movements and all, he doesn't look to me like he's too bothered about his bad form or the fact that he's not living up to the expectation fans look upon him with, cause if you ask me, it's obvious United isn't the club for him, nor the club to take his career to the next/best level, if he stays at United, I guess he is content with his mediocre performances
4474  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Fidelity Report Says Portfolios Should Consider 5% Bitcoin Allocation on: October 15, 2020, 07:14:13 AM
Still they said there is potential on the crypto market so don't forget to some of your money into cryptos for their investors but the percentage is the only error I guess. As I said it has plenty of room the 5% even look so small, it will be increased when more people enters into the market.
Of course the Bitcoin network has potential, but users should decide for themselves how many % of their funds they want to put into the BTC network, 5% may be too much for some, but for some companies that have adopted the network, it may be quite small. But mind you that the Bitcoin network is a speculative market and notwithstanding that it can be a hedge when institutional currencies plunge, users should still abide with the rule of thumb of investing what they can afford to lose
We all know how these big guys can manipulate market in their wanted direction so smaller guys need to be careful, yes market outlook is also bullish but still i think we should not follow such news.
I don't think this has anything to do with any sort of manipulation, and if users don't fall for FUD, then no matter how whales manipulate the market, it doesn't affect their asset, that being said, this year big companies are now seeing more potential in BTC, maybe it's cause of how the economy and fiat reacted badly to covid-19, it helped BTC adoption a lot to say the least.

4476  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How the world counter attack against cryptocurrencies on: October 14, 2020, 07:29:17 AM
but their simply making an act to regain its power by creating an online ways of fiat payments for any transactions.
I guess you mean CBDC's right, well mind you that they are not decentralized, so there's no need to worry about them, they are only digital fiat currencies and aren't going to be used like dex cryptocurrencies.
what would happen if the world abolish the use of paper-made money and adopt whole-heartedly the effectiveness of cryptocurrencies?
The world can't do that, no matter how many countries launch cbdc's, nor despite the rise of Bitcoin or other dex cryptocurrencies, fiat/paper money will be used in every country.
fiat or crypto? or both?

gold or crypto? or both?
Fiat, cryptocurrencies and gold, all of them is going to be used, though Fiat will always be used more than the rest.
4477  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Fidelity Report Says Portfolios Should Consider 5% Bitcoin Allocation on: October 14, 2020, 06:44:06 AM
I think you guys should revisit op's link, the headline seems to have been corrected/changed:
Quote
CORRECTION (Oct. 14, 2020, 04:25 UTC): This article originally said Fidelity recommended that portfolios consider a 5% allocation in bitcoin. The language used was a hypothetical. CoinDesk regrets the error.
This is fidelity report's actual message:
Quote
Fidelity Digital Assets said bitcoin’s market cap has plenty of room to grow in a Tuesday report on the benchmark cryptocurrency’s uncorrelated nature.

That being said, The Bitcoin network even based on it's market cap is growing, this year alone Bitcoin has been adopted by big companies such as MicroStrategy, Grayscale etc, and due to the pandemic and how institutional fiat currencies and their economy lost value leading to inflation, more people have bought Bitcoin as a hedge against this devaluation. I agree with the article that Bitcoin has room to grow, and it is doing just that, despite that the mainstream media isn't doing Btc any favors with how they link it closely with scam. Imo when btc 'rallies' above it's ath, and the economy/fiat is still struggling due to covid-19, the btc network will grow much more, even towards mass adoption.
4478  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why reputation is essential on the free market on: October 14, 2020, 06:03:43 AM
For the moment, if you are new in here or transacting with a new member, having an escrow is a must to avoid any scams. Thats always 99℅ safe.
Of course using escrows is good, if you're dealing with the right/trusted user and not an impostor. That being said, mind you that scammers now impersonate reputable users on either Telegram or other social handles to act as escrows and any fund sent to the scammer can't be recovered, see: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5281221.0, that topic is an example of how this scam works, before choosing an escrow, verify (don't just send, thinking it's safe) through the community and a signed message from the escrow.
4479  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: October 13, 2020, 08:15:53 PM
If that happens, likely same result over and over again with the squad they have. Don't want to give too much head on United. With that squad they don't seem like a big team in the current race. They have just won one match out of 3 and that too was against Brighton and they nearly had them in that.
Mind you that Manchester City have also won one match this season, against a struggling Wolves side, but they are still seen as one of the favorites for the epl title, that being said, I don't also think Manchester United can win the premier league just yet, but I don't think they'll fall out of the top four this season, except their bad run of form continues deep into the season, and teams like Everton, Arsenal and Chelsea have a good season.

Imo, OGS would not be sacked till the end of this season, if he stays or leaves old Trafford will depend on where Manchester United finish in the table, obviously it already looks impossible for them to win the league, so it's yet to be seen if the hierarchy at United will be happy with a top four finish yet again and give ole another year as head coach of Manchester United or change their manager.
4480  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Twitter hack: Be careful with your account as attacks are increasing on: October 13, 2020, 10:31:04 AM
Trick here is that the scammer is posting it from a verified account and regular people will think that's legit since it's coming from a verified account.
Before the incident that happened in July this year were accounts of popular individuals like Obama, Bill Gates, Eleon Musk etc were hacked, I can understand if people feel that a post from a verified account will prolly not be a scam attempt, but after that event, and the community/world became aware that it's possible for that sort of breach to happen and people can get scammed through that means, I expected people/crypto users to ignore giveaway scams even if it's posted from verified accounts on social media.

That being said, it's clear many people do not want to carry on with the responsibility of protecting their crypto funds from scammers, it's not even about if scammers are smart or not, it's important to learn how to protect oneself and also sensitizing others close to us to the popular methods of security breaches/compromise as well.
