4481  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: metered connection, which wallet to use? on: November 25, 2019, 03:06:23 AM
what are these?

also i checked the balance of all the addresses... my entire BTC balance in this wallet file... was less than a cent. :|
Ah, so your wallet contains P2SH-Segwit addresses, so it must be a "not-so-old" wallet.
That's the Redeem Script of your addresses, Electrum currently can't create a "pairable" watch-only wallet by importing those scripts.

Less than a cent... you can donate it to dabs' Feed Some Children by Dabs (Donate Bitcoins) if you want.
He's accepting dust amounts.
4482  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: metered connection, which wallet to use? on: November 24, 2019, 05:54:42 AM
a lite client that doesn't need the whole blockchain, maybe?
You can use Electrum (imported wallet). From: electrum.org (how to verify)

1st Download the latest Bitcoin Core, install/extract it, then disconnect your internet connection to save data.
Copy paste your wallet.dat in the default wallet directory: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Data_directory inside the "wallets" folder.
Open Bitcoin-qt (*as administrator) click window->console, and type dumpwallet 'wallet1.txt' and a "wallet1.txt" file in the directory of your bitcoin-qt will be created.
Open it and you'll find your private keys;
if the wallet is new(er) version, you'll find an "extended private masterkey" that starts with xprv, you can paste that in Electrum instead of each prv keys.

In Electrum, create a new wallet using "Import Bitcoin addresses or private keys" option (Standard->Use a master key for xprv).
On 1st start, you might be required to open Electrum for a short while to properly display your balance (5-30minutes / 40mb+).

*In Windows, some directories may require administrative access in order to create files.
4483  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger with Electrum seed on: November 24, 2019, 03:47:03 AM
I have at least one seed generated by Electrum which works just fine with Ledger.
The seeds generated by Electrum this evening were not working. -snip-
The first one must be a coincidence;
since Electrum also uses the same set of words as BIP39, there's a chance that the last word checksum will be valid for BIP39.

The lesson is, probably to generate with Ian Coleman's site and use it with or without Ledger.
Thoughts?
I would stick with native Electrum seed for Electrum client. Because it automatically restore the correct wallet type depending on the seed.
One exception is when creating P2SH-Segwit wallet, I prefer BIP39 seed over Electrum seed with checked "BIP39" in the option (invalid checksum).
But with Ledger? there's no point in using iancoleman.

Even if the development somehow stopped, I'm sure there will be Electrum backups, clients or tools that still support its seed.
4484  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Recovering 33 character private key from legacy blockchain.info wallet on: November 23, 2019, 07:46:54 AM
- My note on the backup says "wallet for bitcoin-qt client", not sure if this is true. It doesnt look fit for bitcoin-qt at all.
Yes, that looks like a wallet.aes.json file from blockchain.info.

This thread have the info of old and new private key types: [overview] Recover Bitcoin from any old storage format]
But there's nothing about a 33-character prv key.

Have you tried to drag-n-drop it to their import wallet page (https://login.blockchain.com/wallet/import-wallet)?
Said, it supports blockchain.info wallet files.
4485  Other / Meta / Re: 10th anniversary art contest on: November 23, 2019, 04:43:49 AM
hello... i know a lot people got 100 merit just only post 1 great art...
but how about us?... i post 7 different art and i get 100 merit...
Based from what theymos said, it will be judged per submissions, not per username and not totally based from the received merit (10th anniversary art contest OP).
For the "art badge", theymos will post a community poll after he picked the top most-merited artworks. (Re: 10th anniversary art contest last page)
4486  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win a Lamborghini Huracan LP 580-2!! on: November 22, 2019, 07:24:35 AM
@TheQuin Speaking of betting, will you add the 2019 30th South East Asian Games in the sports betting list?
Not per sport, just the top 1 country out of 11.
4487  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockmove.io - Cryptocurrency wallet, merchant & API provider on: November 22, 2019, 04:28:44 AM
I'm concerned with a possible wrong chemistry here: "no KYC + Exchanger and Merchant Service".
One way or another, some Regions will eventually require your clients to pass KYC; have you prepared any countermeasures to such scenarios?
Like "only available for X Countries" and/or silently "do not" tell the users, just go under the radar? Grin

BTW, that domain name looks quite expensive and a blockexplorer as an additional feature will be a good popularity-booster.
4488  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: BTC sent to an unknown address. shows "unspent" on: November 22, 2019, 03:50:34 AM
In most cases, yes. But what if the malware actually identifies when you make a payment and just "destroys" itself to avoid detection? I have never seen this before, but it's not an impossible scenario.
Based from the previous unsolved "changed recipient address" issues here, it's possible.
Eg: Re: Something not right. "P.S."

No this was the only thing I had done.  Why do you think it is that the "previous output address" for this transaction is actually my receiving address?
I suggest you to do what Abdussamad had suggested first, then if the address is the same, answer DireWolf's question.
They've asked to find the possible scenarios, namely: [1] It's clipboard hijacking or [2] a Scam.
4489  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: connect=192.168.1.100 command in bitcoin-qt.conf is being ignored on: November 21, 2019, 11:04:37 AM
I noticed that it's now "bitcoin-qt.conf" instead of "bitcoin.conf". I searched for other .conf files but didn't find any.
Try to create a "bitcoin.conf" file and copy everything from your "bitcoin-qt.conf" file (or just rename it).
But shutdown Bitcoin Core before doing anything.
4490  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Just an Idea - Buy/Sell Contract on: November 21, 2019, 05:26:49 AM
Is time locked escrow a thing? I mean sure you can make a transaction that'll broadcast after a certain pint in time in a 2 of 3 multisig but is there an implementation for anything else like this on the bitcoin network? @nc50lc
Bitcoin Core can't, but the network allows scripts with CLTV instructions (could be wrong). [BIPS][BIP65]
AFAIK, there's a wallet that implemented this in their client's addresses as a security feature, I forgot the name.
4491  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Just an Idea - Buy/Sell Contract on: November 21, 2019, 04:07:56 AM
He can, and that is not the only way someone can pay to harm another person.
Uh, and what are the other ways to harm the other party?
While you're at it, think why a feature with flaws that you're enumerating is better than the current centralized payment processors Wink

BTW a (2/3) escrow address with expiration (expiration date in favor of the seller) can be used in this scenario,
that requires the centralized entity to create their own software that supports scripts with CLTV.

Sorry, just have no clue how it could be implemented.
If it isn't a good idea in the first place, there no point of thinking the possible implementations.
4492  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Software wallet analysis by Veriphi on: November 20, 2019, 08:36:04 AM
Post mistakes and disagreements, if there are any.
For Electrum:
Line 12: "Wallet is API, SPV or a Node?" : AFAIK everyone describe Electrum as an SPV wallet.
Line 22: "Can you add extra entropy?" : Yes, Electrum supports SEED extension.
Line 36: "Can you have many accounts?" : If it's about multiple wallet files, it should be yes.
Line 39: "Can the user broadcast any TX?" : Yes by using the console command broadcast(tx)

For clarification, some of these fields should be specific, not yes or no.
4493  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: HELP !- Balance showing ZERO, new laptop, using legder and Electrum!!! !!HELP!!! on: November 20, 2019, 07:32:51 AM
All transactions show as should be, it HAS to something to do with the 'derived path', which i set on the Ledger, it was fixed etc.
By searching for "derived path" in your post history, I found this: Ledger Device displaying Warning! When trying to confirm transaction?.
49'/0'/0'/0/6 just means that Electrum had selected the seventh address in your wallet as the change address instead of the default change derivation path because "use change address" was disabled.
It absolutely has nothing to do with the "lagging" sync.

Try this:
Do not use the same USB port.
Your new laptop must have faulty ports since it worked in your old laptop and both LL and Electrum didn't in the new one.
If still didn't worked, update the MoBo's driver.

I saw that you have tried to select the default derivation path for p2sh-segwit which is the correct one,
so just open that wallet again after switching USB ports.
4494  Other / Meta / Re: 10th anniversary art contest on: November 19, 2019, 10:28:43 AM
-snip-
AFAIK, the maximum merit a member can send per month is 50 and theymos already sent 50 to your first post.
Although he managed to send more than 50, you only received the maximum.

Here's hilariousandco's post about it: FAQ: Everything you need to know about forum 'activity, account ranks and merit
Quote from: hilariousandco
Is there a limit on how many merits I can send?

Yes. You can give a max of 50 merit to a user every 30 days.
4495  Other / Meta / Re: 10th anniversary art contest on: November 19, 2019, 05:13:05 AM
Hi, my picture for contest was just deleted.
I think it can be considered as art, there's even no nudity here.
-snip-
Could I please have your opinion, thanks.
IMO, this one crossed the line between "Adult" (NSFW) and "Pornography".
Based on experience w/ flagged artworks, arts that include grabbing the genitals or bust in a provocative way (even clothed) were considered as porn.

In your case, I'd say it's way beyond NSFW that's why it was deleted.
4496  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What if "fake" block in local node on: November 19, 2019, 03:30:36 AM
^ additionally, your current peers may blacklist your node and you wont be able to reconnect to them for quite a while.

But you said "force in the blk.dat file", IDK if that's possible but if it is, I think your node wont sync past that particular block.
You'll have to delete the related data then reindex to sync properly.

[1] How to sync blocks because the local node need save it?
[2] How to validate new transactions ?
[3] what is shown in local wallet with fake address ?
Hold your horses.... The questions didn't connect at all.
1. It will be done automatically by your node.
2. It will be done automatically by your node.
3. There's no such thing as "fake address" and faking blocks won't affect your wallet.dat.

Based from this questions, you should start with the basics than trying to solve these scenarios.
I'll recommend you to read Mastering Bitcoin, pdf download link in the "see also".
It has everything you need to know.
4497  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: I Have a TREZOR Wallet and paid BitPay invoice via Electrum, all BTC gone... on: November 18, 2019, 08:06:32 AM
Did you followed these steps when you setup your Electrum: support.bitpay.com/~?
If you haven't and added extra steps like pasting your Trezor's SEED to Electrum, you might have followed a malicious tutorial.

Did you also remember what was written in the "amount" tab of the invoice? (bottom part of the send tab).
There might be something fishy with the invoice that they've sent you.

Because if your Trezor is legit, there's no easy way to hack it unless you've leaked the SEED or credited a "send-all" transaction.
4498  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: RBF or CPFP transactions if I reinstall my computer and lose transaction history on: November 18, 2019, 04:09:33 AM
-snip-
Wow, great!
Your explanation sounds reasonable but yesterday my wallet shown it was synced with network (green) and sure it was connected to a server and the status shown "Connected to 10 nodes".

Are there probabilities that my wallet is synced with network while it has not yet completely downloaded blockchain headers file?
There have been some sync and balance issues posted in the Electrum board with the same set-up:
connected to a server with green connection icon but a newly installed Electrum/OS.

Most of them just waited for a few minutes in order to display the proper balance/history.
I have also tested by deleting my own blockchain_headers file and it indeed didn't sync normally despite being connected to a server.
[For the test: If you use existing wallet files (not restore from SEED), the history will be displayed as "not verified"]
4499  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [For merit] Discuss the effect mining rewards have on the price of Bitcoin on: November 18, 2019, 03:57:59 AM
You must be talking about the coming "halving",
so as a TL;DR, I'd say "it's a FOMO-generating-headline", explanation follows.

We all know that reduction in the supply increment have a positive result in Bitcoin's price as long as the whole cryptocurrency/Bitcoin market cap is stable.
But based from the timing of the previous price-boost effects of halving, the FOMO always comes before it while the trading volume wasn't even affected yet.
Then the "real effects" which was affected by what happened comes after that.

For the next year's (approx May) halving, it's about 6 months from now, yet I haven't seen any good news or "normal" upward market fluctuations.
Just some obvious staged dump from the previous months, just to pump and dump again (the usual).

[1] reported velocity of Bitcoin.
-snip-
[2] Maybe I made the topic too complex for this board, but thanks to all who have contributed to the discussion.
1. Volatility, perhaps?
2. I think so too; it'll be more easier if you give them the right keywords like "halving".
4500  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: RBF or CPFP transactions if I reinstall my computer and lose transaction history on: November 18, 2019, 02:06:02 AM
Are there any explanation why I did not see transaction history yesterday?
Your Electrum as well as your OS were newly installed, so the "blockchain_headers" file in the %appdata%/Electrum directory was wiped out.
Without it, Electrum won't be able to fetch your balance even if you're connected to a server.

It took time because it needs to be downloaded (47+MB) and the duration depends on your internet speed.
