What are the exact rules about using merits as give away prizes?
No, there are no specific rules. Seems moderators have mixed opinions about this case. So, only admin knows that. I am assuming admin has read that thread and since he had not left any opinion, we can't call it as abuse. But for me, this isn't correct use of merit, I don't think its something punishable by the way. I will discourage to use merit as a prize.
4483  Other / Meta / Re: Can this be considered plagiarism? Trader or copy-paste? on: August 22, 2020, 02:01:54 PM
I had a question, are posts, without providing links to the source, considered plagiarism?
Yes, if the link exists on the web. The post you have presented its obvious plagiarism since OP hadn't mentioned the source. And seems the source is available on the web. So it would simply prove plagiarism case. Plagiarism is plagiarism, either it's a full post or part of the post. Any copy paste from other sources should use as a quote, for the image should use the source link. Also uploaded and posting time should consider during report a plagiarism.
4484  Other / Meta / Re: Free Advertising, YES or NO on: August 22, 2020, 01:58:42 PM
I think currently no managers are forcing participants to wear Signature & Avatar before apply. Sometimes it's on the rules due to the nature of the Signature Campaigns, which doesn't mean you will not be accepted unless you do not wear Signature. For me, I do not give priority who wear Signature before acceptance. I just inform after accepted if the participants hadn't wear Signature.

You any managers forcing to wear Signature before apply then he can do it. Nothing wrong since there are no guidelines or rules for the Signature campaign. But participants would ignore such as campaign if they do not like to comply with campaign rules. But of course, campaign rules should comply with forum rules as well. Not one forcing participants to apply on any campaign.

4486  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: No fees trading hack. WTF? on: August 22, 2020, 08:25:04 AM
I am not familiar with the Nominex exchange. All new exchange doesn't mean they are scammers. If they are distributing their native token based on trading volume then I don't think it's suspicious. Most likely they want to attract more new traders in this way. But don't be greedy. Although it seems few users supporting them but everyone should do their own diligence before putting big money into this exchange. Make deposit what you can afford losses, we can't assure you that they will never scam.
4487  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buy Bitcoins before the upcoming banking crisis states author of Rich Dad Poor D on: August 22, 2020, 08:14:35 AM
Yes, I think the decision is worthy somehow. I have noticed a bank crisis in my country, more withdrawing than deposits. If that continues then most likely we will encounter a bank crisis of course. I think it would be the right decision to invest in assets that would be sold at any time without hassle and for me, bitcoin would be one of them. Because those are involved with cryptocurrency only they can realize the value of bitcoin and most likely they wouldn't put their money into other assets.
4488  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: CARDCOINS.CO: Buy Bitcoin with Cash in Minutes - 60,000 Locations, No Accounts on: August 21, 2020, 08:50:21 PM
How you calculate BTC price? It seems the current BTC price on your website is $14028.00 where Bitcoin trading now at $11,684.30 other exchanges. Still your website under development? Or from where you had use API to get Bitcoin price. It would confuse buyers/sellers. If its bug then hopes it will be fixed.
4489  Other / Meta / Re: Will this be sufficient proof? No, so? on: August 21, 2020, 05:47:05 PM
As we know telegram becomes a safe haven for scammers, so it would become a safe haven for plagiariser as well. It will be too complicated to verify and should matching forum & telegram time as well. Screenshots wouldn't help for telegram plagiarism since it's even easy to make fake conversations and edit as well. I can't see any easy way to prevent such plagiarism since it does not exist on the web.
4490  Other / Off-topic / Re: Merit for quality -newbies and junior member- on: August 21, 2020, 05:31:03 PM
Guys, we are becoming lazy day by day. Just spend your merits to the quality posts. Doesn't necessary to create merit giveaway thread with a small number of smerits where you have enough time to spend it. Don't me get wrong but I strongly discourage opening merit giveaway thread anymore. Once a time lots of reputed users opened merit giveaway thread including me, but it was beginning to introduce merit system. But now, all users know about it, so it's quite unnecessary. When you will read other user's posts you will get the quality post for sure.

If someone need rank up or think you deserve merits then please submit your post on this thread where multiple merit source watching: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5093271.0
4491  Economy / Reputation / Re: Merits offered as a prize on: August 21, 2020, 05:15:20 PM
Every user has to add at least X BTC into the prize pool and the winner (the person with the most points after the season) gets all the BTC inside.
And apparently one user also "added" merit into the prize pool.
So who will but first he will get all the funds plus 20 merits. Am I right? And seems there is 2nd & 3rd prize as well which are distributing with merits. That means even your prediction becomes 3rd place somehow on the competition, you will not get merits unless you pay the participation fees. Nah, I wouldn't agree with that kind of gamble where the prize will be rewarded by merits. So even the worst poster would be a good predictor and would get merit rewards if participate in the competitions. Moderators should discourage from such as competition, otherwise, we might encounter so many such as thread which would lead to merit abuse. Merit was introduced as a reward of good posters & contributors, not for gambling prize.
4492  Economy / Reputation / Re: Merits offered as a prize on: August 21, 2020, 04:10:58 PM
The thing I am not getting is "prize pool " when I have translated into English. Seems there is participation fee is in bitcoin, so why prize outcome is merit? I am not sure if the merit award is additional besides of BTC reward. But since there is a deal with Bitcoin which is participation fee then merit shouldn't announce as an award. Announce merit reward for constructive discussion isn't wrong, or if merit send on the same thread for constructive discussion wouldn't wrong. But announce as a prize where entry fees by bitcoin aren't right in my personal opinion.

but everyone can do what he wants with his merits.
Nah, wrong information. There is rules for merit sources.
Quote
It is not allowed for merit sources to sell their merit.
4493  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bank cards with hot wallets safety on: August 21, 2020, 03:43:54 PM
Nothing will happen to connect the card with a hot wallet. It will not make any difference. Imagine, you have an internet banking service and you connect your card with that account. So will it make any difference in your internet security? I don't think so, the same goes for the hot wallet as well. Custodial/web wallets wouldn't be safe and shouldn't hold a large number of funds. It's better to buy Hardware wallet if you could afford, otherwise use a non-custodial open-source SPV wallet. At least your fund will be under the control of you.
4494  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Need suggestion for making a video on bitcoin on: August 21, 2020, 03:28:56 PM
Good initiative! First of all, from my experience I can say, I am one of them who suggest above to don't make your video much longer. Otherwise, viewers will discourage to watch the full video. Rather than it, you may create part by part like part -1 and so on. Better starting with Bitcoin history from the beginning, like what was the goal, development process, etc. The main thing that should highlight technology, it's quite important. There is more related object you may create part by part like choose proper wallet and kind of wallet. Yea, there are many wrong thoughts in people's minds, so you may make it clear. No one was professional Youtubers at the beginning, so start and you will be a professional someday.

Best of luck.

4496  Other / Archival / Re: Question to merit sources on: August 20, 2020, 04:59:11 PM
As a merit source, I pay attention if the post is useful somehow. Doesn't matter if the user is distributing his smerit or not. But yes, when I intend to send merit in a very old post then I check if the user is active. Usually, I do not send merit if the user is inactive for a long time. I have remembered a few posts where I was going to send merit, but I had doubts about plagiarism and eventually, I was right. For me, it's more priority to distribute merits among active contributors than inactive users. So of course I noticed the posting dates as well.

No matter if every merit source has different thoughts and strategies to distribute his/her merits.
4497  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam report Coinbase.com on: August 20, 2020, 04:39:53 PM
In this case, Coinbase getting advantage of user's mistakes. I don't know why peoples are using custodial/web wallets when they are dealing with big funds. Te fund is easily recoverable if they want. Few exchanges have recover opportunities in case funds send into a cross-chain like your case. Although it's your mistake, but they should resolve it if they are professional with their business. We can't do anything here, only Coinbase the one who could help you. Keep continue contact with their support and avoid such as dealing in the future. It would be a lesson for other users here.

Sorry for your loss.

Thanks for the info and recommendations. Electrum looks like my next destination.
Yea, I think so Electrum is a better option for you. Just make sure you have downloaded original software from the original website. Don't forget to verify Signature as well. Keep your seed in a safe place, write on multiple papers, and keep on multiple places as well. Don't store your seed in any online machine or don't share it with anybody. Anyway, use the same address, again and again, isn't a very good idea. But yes, you may sign a message from all the addresses from Electrum including.
4499  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Restaurant convert entire savings to Bitcoin on: August 20, 2020, 02:40:15 PM
Definitely, the owner took a risky move. But we know that, "no risk no gain, high-risk high gain". I believe he has enough patience to hold bitcoin and that's why he took this risky decision. We know bitcoin is a high volatile cryptocurrency, and it would be an advantage for the owner in the future if he could wait for the time. I will not judge he took right or wrong decision, but I can say he took a real-time decision by comparing it with the current economy.
4500  Economy / Gambling / Re: Is it necessary to create an ANN thread? on: August 20, 2020, 10:21:55 AM
Create an announcement thread isn't something required, it totally depends on the team who are operating the gambling site. Creating an ANN thread on this forum would be an advantage for the platform. On the other hand, the platforms will get new gamblers from the forum and gamblers also will be able to express their opinions on the ANN thread. So new gamblers would realize the current situation of a gambling site. So, if any gambling site wants to take advantage of the forum they must need to create an announcement thread here and that's how they might get lots of potential gamblers.
