4483  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: radeon5970 temperature 85C - repair? on: June 30, 2011, 11:55:08 AM
85 degrees isn't high for a high-end graphics card, especially if it's a dual-gpu one. So your card is fine, it ain't damaged :>

But you can try taking off the cooler, reapply some good thermal paste (eg. STG-2, AS, NT-H1), but don't forget to clean the old one with alcohol or distilled water, and take out the dust if there's any between the radiator's fins.

malevolent: thank you very very much! Rumors say there is one bitcoin floating through the btc-swamp, prepared to penetrate and unite with your wallet.dat!

hmm...don't know if that will be a problem. We are all students here, so all young people. I, for myself, wouldn't say Mr./Mrs. to anyone living here in this dormitory. Is it common to say Mr/Mrs among students in Poland? I mean from student to student? :-/
I also will give him the paper personally with a smile in the face and maybe a beer in the hand, hopefully that will make it clear that i don't want to be impolite Cheesy

Your welcome:)

From your description I think there's no need to use the Mr/Mrs form but I can rewrite it if you'd really like, then just PM me.

I'm surprised at the number of people who replied without actually responding to his question or offering any options. Telling him 2x5770 on a 500w psu is "imminent failure" is laughable.

Haha, exactly, I'm running 2 hd 5850s and a hd 6850 on a 550w corsair atm. Undervolted them to reduce my PSU load a bit and it works great .

Translation:

btw. where do you live? it's a student dormitory and he doesn't even speak English?

Yeah, I know, it took me some time to find them at a reasonable price in Europe. Found them in pixmania for 120€. I should have them this week.

You could ask some surgeon to cut you up and search your intestines... they shouldnt be longer than 8-12m i thinketh.
4492  Other / Off-topic / Re: czech & polish native speakers wanted! on: June 29, 2011, 03:34:40 PM
Sure. Write the text in English and I'll translate it to Polish for you (I am native Polish speaker).

But are you sure he is a Pole (or a Czech)? I think he could also be a Slovak because their language is more similar to Polish than Czech.
Polish and Slovak are quite mutually intelligible but Czech is a little different.

HD 5850 is missing on the list.
4494  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 2GB vs. 1GB GPUs? on: June 27, 2011, 01:17:22 PM
If there isn't much difference in price, get a 2 GB one, because if you ever find yourself willing to get rid of your rigs (because mining might stop being profitable) you'll be able to sell it for a higher price (a lot of people think that more VRAM = better GPU performance)

4496  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do you add (or withdraw) funds ? on: June 27, 2011, 01:05:21 PM
1. I use SEPA transfers but even the slowest option is pretty expensive (I pay ~10 €) if you don't plan to send larger amounts of money, so check @ your bank how much is it going to cost you. Currently I'm looking for a cheaper bank ; ]
It takes at least 3 BUSINESS days (so best to send money early in the week) to send the money. Sometimes a bit more than that, if I make a SEPA transfer after 17h00 it'll be 4 business days.

No ideas about Asia or US though, but if you're from US then Dwolla seems to be a good option, take a look at the fees:

Yes, this would also be a lot cheaper for me, so I considered this but I am afraid of the doubled risk.

Another PSU multiplies the chance of frying some (or all) components by 2. Even assuming everything is correctly connected and grounded.

No. I'll be using only one monitor and dummy plugs . . .

Okay, thanks, one (hopefully) last set of questions:

How is using my PC going to look if I want to play games or watch movies?

Which GPUs are going to be working?

Would it be possible to 'turn off' HD 5850s and leave only HD 6850 to work if I want play only games, watch YT, movies, etc. (non-mining stuff)? I cannot afford to have two PCs and I can't imagine games to be working properly with 2 non-crossfired HD 5850 and HD 6850 (gpu from next generation) :-)

Which drivers and which ati stream version will work best on my setup?
