Stupid bastards.

 https://cryptopotato.com/biden-administration-pushes-congress-to-pass-30-tax-on-bitcoin-mining/

"Biden Administration Pushes Congress to Pass 30% Tax on Bitcoin Mining

 Author: Andrew Throuvalas

The White House views the Bitcoin mining industry as environmentally harmful and limited in economic benefit.

The White House is attempting to persuade Congress to pass a 30% climate change tax on cryptocurrency miners as part of its next federal budget.

The change, titled the Digital Asset Mining Energy (DAME) excise tax, is designed to encourage mining firms to start taking better account of their so-called ‘societal harms’, including higher energy prices and greenhouse gas emissions...

...The tax would be phased in over 3 years, starting at 10% in the first year before rising to 20% and eventually 30% in the following two years. Over 10 years, it would generate an estimated $3.5 billion in revenue...
"

They (the gov't) wont make a @#$ cent.  The margins are not good enough to support such a luxury tax so miners will go elsewhere.

What about the miners that use mining to create solar arrays.

Will my solar created be taxed?

Taking equity out of ones home, another thing you can't do here (and people wouldn't understand). Of course we saw in 2009 that it led to plenty of people losing their home...

You can't easily do it in Texas too because locals were burned on this before anyone else in US (in 1987) when people were mass-mailing the keys to their houses to lenders, apparently.
Typically, no cash-out refinancing. I know some people in CA that did multiple cash outs and now have a gigantic mortgage.
Still, there is some equity, but the cushion is much smaller that it should have been otherwise.

if you have a 700,000  home with 100% equity. You do not take out a loan on it.

Unless rates drop to 2-3%

My example is 2,000,000 wealth

700,000 home
400,000 bond driven 401 k gets 5%
100,000 gold, silver

that is 1,200,000 wealth
and you have 800,000 more wealth do do as you please.

that adds to 2,000,000 wealth

the 401k earns 20k a year

you have 7,000 take home in pensions. since I said you have pensions you have to use some of the 401k eventually maybe now so 20,000 is the juice it gets. pull 4,000 and that is 2,000 a month but it is taxable so pull 30,000  this means the 402k will last close to a lifetime and you actuall income after taxes is 9,000 a month

This person has the ability to fuck around with 800,000 anyway they want to. Stock ,bonds, btc shit coins what ever.  But they are rare and they are dying every day as I type this out.

They can do an equity loan if rates drop to 2 or 3%. I said the chances are likely less than 1 in 25 Americans are in this spot.

They can have a mixed blend of what ever the they invest.  They are rare.

Most Americans are paycheck to paycheck and will work way past retirement ages. 70 or later is common.

For these people savings in a bank are meh at best. They need to do 3 or more different  plays even if the plays are $25 a month for each month.

I know why and will need to shift some lighter duty gear ..

I seems like every time I post, the board double posts it!   wtf?

edit: except for this one.  Maybe it has something to do with the way images are handled?

Quite often I've seen it take ages to post something, so I think it isn't working, then I try to refresh and it turns out it did post the previous post anyway so indeed in those cases it always seems to end up in a double posting.

This does happen a lot.

same here. ive left it for a couple minutes sometimes and its still frozen when i return.. then when i do resend it its already posted.

seems to happen more 1st thing in the morning or maybe just after prolonged inactivity of not posting?

More often when I use my wi fi connected iPad than my hard wired Mac mini.  But both do it.

In my country banks don't pay anything on deposits. I'm not sure why but it's like that. They will direct you to put money in various instruments, some are very common, government backed, but you can't put more than less than 1BTC at current prices. After that we're talking life insurance, bonds stocks etc.

But in the US banks pay something, and I was seeing that JPMorgan made tons of money lately, because they hiked the rates of mortgages like crazy, but increased the rates they pay on deposits to something ridiculous like 0.3%. If I was a customer I would be angry...

It is often difficult to explain to the older generation how much they lose when they keep money in banks. Especially when interest is charged on deposits. Often they simply say that they needed to save more so that the interest on deposits would cover current expenses. And the extent to which these expenses have increased over the past decades is difficult for most people to grasp. Many people try to instill the habit of trusting banks in their children and grandchildren. Conservative views on this issue will play into the hands of banks for a long time to come. There is more hope that young people with their open eyes will be able to understand the idea of bitcoin. Those of the older generation who are skeptical now are unlikely to change their attitude. Youth will have to help them later.

The best thing my parents did with money was what they spent on everyday needs, on entertainment, on experiences. And almost all the savings in the bank only depreciate more and more.

You can think that.  But if you have some wealth spread around cash is fine.
7,000 a month take home in pensions
and  2,000,000 wealth

700,000 paid for home
400,000 401k getting 5% in bonds
100,000  in hard metal gold,silver

you have 800,000 to do whatever. BTC, stocks, shitcoins

So now rates are 5% for bonds the 401k makes 20k .

Lots of other methods to use the home equity.

Lets say interest drops like a stone you could mortgage 💸 at 2 or 3%.

Make other moves with that home equity.

But if you are paycheck to paycheck banks offer very little.

Maybe 1 in 25 people living in the US can do my first example of having wealth .

Many people in the US are paycheck to paycheck.

To be fair, even the android phone in your pocket can go through all possible combinations of your PIN and unscramble it, if the hackers can't just social engineer the bank into logging you in in the first place.  Roll Eyes
Good luck with that, I don't do banking on my phone (for this exact reason). It's weird to see banks now just cover increasing amounts of losses because they're pushing "convenience" instead of security. And that's another reason why I like Bitcoin: at least I can choose my own security. If "your" money from your bank account is gone, you have to prove you didn't do it. If your Bitcoins are gone, at least you know it's your own fault.

Major banking theft via online is very hard to get reimbursement from your bank.

edit finishing my point: a major cc theft is protected and fairly easy to fix.

The reason is ⅔ of cc users pay huge interest so banks encourage cc use.

I got it, but I am reconsidering even to have more than a current month expense in the bank.
You get 0% there and in a money market almost 5%.
I am sure that after I would post this, some money market would get off parity and money would flow backwards into the "safe" banks.
In fact, I penciled this scenario for sometime in the next 6-8 mo as banks cannot tolerate losing deposits to Treasury direct and money markets for too long.

4491  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solar powered mining only during sunlight and without batteries on: May 01, 2023, 06:36:13 PM
I am no electrician but I think the electricity you get from the panels is alternating current (AC). Which means the voltage of that current isn't stable. You have to store it on a battery first so you can have a direct current/stable voltage (DC) which you can use to power up most electrical devices and as far as I know, bitcoin miners also run on DC.

You have got them mixed up, solar panels generate low voltage DC, asicminers just like most other electronics require AC at the PSU input, the PSU of course will have to convert that AC to DC to run the miner's chips, but you can't just feed the miner with DC and expect it to work, it won't for so many reasons that are not best fit in this topic.

Yeah you string the panels going to maybe 72dc  and then the invertor changes them to 240 ac or 120 ac.

If you want the exotic inverters that did not work with solar to inverter to 12 volt dc to l3's or s9's I can ask my partner to source the name.  But they did not work.

Maybe 2016 or 2017 was the summer we wasted 2 months doing tests.

Power Efficiency   30J/TH, -5%~+8%@25℃

As per standard with Canaan all their latest miners are worse performance J/TH
Been like that since the beginning ... ...

I now understand why they are so cheap compared to Antminer and Whatsminer

the 113th model is not that cheap.

the 96th in texas is about 1050 usd.

the 110th is in china so shipping and import tax turns it into over 2000

4494  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solar powered mining only during sunlight and without batteries on: May 01, 2023, 02:53:03 PM
I have been running a small mining shed  run off grid for 6 months now.

I have 2 x S9J's, S19 Pro and 3 x L3+ running from my 10Kw panels and 600Ah 48v Battery and 10KW Inverter Setup.

Not sure why "TwoZeroes" commented on a topic from 2014 lol, but anyways, it's nice to see that people are still interested in the same thing, asking the same questions that have been asked 9 years ago, and it's nice to hear about your little project that's running on solar.

Based on OP's questions and many answers I see here and elsewhere, people need to understand that you MUST have batteries if you are going to be off-grid, it's not an option, on paper you could assume that your solar panel will output 12VDC and an inverter will convert that power to 220VAC and thus you will need nothing more in between.

In reality, the voltage coming from your solar panel is nowhere near constant, and the overall wattage coming out from your DC-AC inverter is never going to be stable even during sunlight hours, so you can't just install 300w solar panel and expect a 300w device running directly from the inverter to work without issues, you are going to need to greatly oversize your solar panels to account for loses/shades/clouds/heat and all that, and then depending on the setup of your solar panels (series/parallel or both) slightly oversizing might not be an option, and a very large oversize might get you pretty close to cost of buying batteries or going on-grid to sell your power to the power company.

It's also important to mention that things have changed since OP posted this, today's miners are no longer 300w miners, they are 3000W and above, that's a 10x growth, solar panels are not 10x more powerful today, not even half of that.

Even with higher end specialty inverters we could not get it to work.

My partner is an owner of a 20 year old solar company he has a lot of solar experience.

We were trying to sell a dog house with some ground mount panels so you could mine daylight.

Spent a whole summer and once you add the 100 amp battery you could run around 10 hours a day. Using a night time shut down. But the practical setup was a no go.
we even coated the s9s with epoxy to not worry about nighttime condensation.

Solar works with on grid if the power company gives proper excess credit for power in the day.

You earn 100 excess kwatts in the day and at night the power company sells it back to you on a one to one swap.

If you get that deal solar works.
4495  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solar powered mining only during sunlight and without batteries on: May 01, 2023, 02:41:41 PM
some cheaper invertors have lower output on peak load than written in sticker
could make sense having invertor with at least twice required power threshold

We used high end specialty invertors. each was over 1000 usd  and rated for over 2000 watts.

The issue is the load from the psu is not resistive like a light bulb.

The question of global warming is answered: It is happening and by 2100 lots of shit will be flooded like a mofo.
...

My advice

If you are under 40 look for a place 500 feet above sea level you should be fine at that level.

Lots of the world is 200 feet or more above sea level.Which would likely be fine.

You're too pessimistic.

Quote
That growing knowledge base is why scientific organizations like the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) are publishing sea level rise projections with increasing levels of confidence.
In its 2019 report, the IPCC projected (chart above) 0.6 to 1.1 meters (1 to 3 feet) of global sea level rise by 2100 (or about 15 millimeters per year) if greenhouse gas emissions remain at high rates (RCP8.5).

I don't see rich people abandoning the Hamptons and Martha's Vineyard...

2019 data is old.

newer data is more like 10 feet by 2100.

For me it is fairly abstract as I have no descendants to worry or care about and I will be 99 in 2100.

If I were 30 with a few kids I would not live 10 miles from the Jersey shore at 66 feet above sea level.

I would move to upstate New York near lake George.

As for Hamptons it will be fucked by 2100

not so sure about Martha's vineyard as I do not know how it is sturctured. ie a sand bar like Hamptons is costly to dike vs a circle shaped island.

the Hamptons would need 3 sea walls to save.

much like the jersey shore. which is a series of sand bars.

they need 2 dikes 100 miles long and 30-50 feet high.

to save a 2 mile wide island .

and a third dike on the actual continent part of NJ.

If you study NJ you realize they have planned to use the NJ parkway for the dike so anything on the east side of it is fucked.

I have designed a few hundred speculative how to save the USA from flooding maps
If you look below and see my NJ plan and trace out the elevation maps or the heights of the GSP you will see this shit is planned for on many places in the world.

I live in NJ and plan to stay here at the moment I am on the good side of the GSP and will stay there.

I have heard that shit since the early 80s, and absolutely nothing have come true. The university of Lund measures the sea level every year, and it still rises within the same 1-3mm that it has done since forever.

I have said time and time again I have zero worries. I am at 66 years old and 2100 is not in the cards for me.

My location it about 65 feet above sea level and I am at least 15 miles from the sea.

and the GSP would be an easy peasy dike/barrier if it melts faster.

To me it has happened before and will happen again.

And

here is info from your University

but rapid and 23.5 feet crushes Florida .

But as I said I am cool with the temps rising and the ice melting.

and even if it does it by 2050 I doubt I will have flooding were I am moving to.

Freehold NJ 20 miles from the sea with 2 carrier roads GSP and Route 9.

Plus new home is bigger more land and 115 feet above sea level.

I am going to check the other building with the m50s now.

other building is 230 and 230.5

need to talk to electrical guy.

230v is great, those m50 gears must be running without much effort, anything between 220v and 240v is good, higher is better for PSU, cables and everything else that carries power to the miner, slightly below 220v i would not bother, temprary below 210v is ok, but running steady for long period of time at 203v is something i won't reccomend, so ya sure thing call the electric guy, it is thier JOB to give you proper voltage input since you are paying for it.

@Sledge0001, I have bought and sold hunderds of the m30s, +, ++, various m50 models were sold to my clients, none of them hashed at specs, all run higher which is great and people loved it except for one client who was mad at me because i sold him some 100th m30++ which did 106th and he said his pdu was near full and could not handle the extra 200w per miner lol, luckly he was able to use powerlimit and did not insist on returning , I now have to make everyone aware that I won't be responsible for gears that do slightly higher hashrate than what is on the label.

Yeah that room has over 40kwatts of gear in it.

WE ARE Waiting for a new panel the panel is 80 years old. been a long wait.

I will need to put some bitmain gear there and move the m30's to the other room.

here is the m50 room it has over 100kwatts of gear.

4499  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: M30 vs M50 a short review on: May 01, 2023, 12:42:21 AM
I have sensor push app.

the room is 65 f in and 92 f out

Those can be somehow inaccurate since temps inside the farm will differ by a considerable margin depending on the airflow, turbulence, not enough exhaust causing heat to re-enter the miner, not enough intake space and etc.

As you can see the miners are reporting 25-26c while your sensor is reporting 18.4, that's off by nearly 7 degrees, it's always best to check the miner's temp sensor rather than external sensors.

But anyway, temps are still good, and don't worry much about them even if the room heats up, the miner will tune lower and will go into protection mode both on PSU and hashboard levels if temps can't be kept low enough.

Quote
volts are 202 and 201 need to talk to power guy

That is pretty low, in my previous post I meant to say below 220v, which is the minimum stated by the manufacturer, but I have tested some M30s all the way down to 205v and they ran just fine, even those that threw a voltage error did not seem to bother and just kept going.

I am pretty interested in hearing the compassion part between the M30 and the M50 especially that now the price difference between the two is just about 2$ per th.

A pro tip, going to the Whatsminer Tool and going to display settings, you will find a lot of fun stuff to show like the daily power consumption, also you could exclude a lot of the not-so-important info like the power supply version and all that things that you won't need for daily monitoring, just to keep 4-6 columns that you actually use.

that is worth merits.

Let us check your voltage at the PSU meter, go to whatsminer tool and follow this.

Settings > display mode > custom > add PowervIn

This will display the voltage at the PSU, yours seems to be below 200v which is why you get that error.

Also, you can add EnvTemp which is vrery useful too.

I have sensor push app.

the room is 65 f in and 92 f out

also we have only two of four exhaust fans turned on.

I will check current volts.

ev temp 25 and 26 c which is good.

volts are 202 and 201 need to talk to power guy
