4481  Economy / Economics / Re: Not just money but oil is most important in the World on: June 13, 2021, 02:20:31 PM
You have written so many repeating words and stating the obvious without punctuations for easy comprehension of your readers but I need to let you know that Biden is still new as the American president he ascended barely 6 months ago. As the 46th American president, he is still riding on the performance and glory of the past, there are no challenges that is new to him for the world to see his strength and policies he is going to introduce (he met covid-19, so is just a continuation for him). Biden has been printing more dollar and that may affect the currency if not probably handled.

About the black gold, nothing is permanent. Saudi Arabia is about saying they are not producers anymore and that means they are looking to diversify the economy. So oil may not be the ultimate as there are now different means to go pass the depency in the use of oil , like the electric cars that are being in use.
4482  Economy / Economics / Re: Twitter ban, koo opens up. How will this play in Nigeriann business environment on: June 11, 2021, 12:27:30 PM

The economic environment in Nigeria will not be affected. Few economic activities place importance on personal and media freedoms, and few care about them.

Hello hugeblack , the ban is really going to affect the Nigerian business economy and it surely will because Nigeria business startups are all moving into the social media to reach out to customers and twitter is a giant in this space because it covers a whole lot of population. It is a wrong step for the government to take such decision to shut out youths and people who don't have government jobs but have ways to survive through the social media. Of course there are different things you can do on social media for profit and convenience without stepping out from the house. For travels and booking of tickets, all these are done online line by businesses involved in it.

you can Google for more on the economic effect

Quote
The internet and social media have revolutionalized business in Nigeria. I am old enough to recall driving to the airport in person or to a “travel agency” to buy a ticket to fly on a plane. Today I go online, buy a ticket, select a seat, book a hotel and hire a car while in bed via apps on my phone. If I don’t like the service I can go online to Facebook and Twitter and complain. Almost every organization has a social media team and social media spending is not a traditional media channel used by companies and politicians. Can you imagine the covid response, the dissemination of information without Social media? Without Twitter?

Check this quote below

Quote
Now to the business impact, a sizeable portion of the youth population earn their livelihood off Twitter, some simply by being attack dogs or mouthpiece for politicians and the government. Clearly income for those youths will be lost no thanks to the ban.

4483  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question about bitcoin taxes and signature campaign payment on this forum on: June 10, 2021, 11:55:45 AM

With all I have read about crypto taxes, I do not yet know how I should pay crypto tax for any signature campaign paid on this forum unless the bitcoin paid later has net increase. But if it has not yet increase in value, this means no taxes to be paid. Is that correct?

Is good that you are asking a question of this magnitude this earlier because the Nigerian government doesn't seem to have a concern to start generating revenue or income from cryptocurrency, they don't understand it and that's why they are fighting it.

But as to your question and how you get to pay tax from your signature earnings , again the government seem not to be able to trace business, enterprises or any other way that people generate income here if they are not linked to the banks directly. There are many people having different kinds of personal income that can't be accounted for because they are not tied to Nigerian banks and many are not registered. So likewise your own enquiry, except there is a way you link your rewards to the banks with the fiat. But the system isn't ready for such tax collections for now.

4485  Economy / Economics / Trump regrets not banning twitter as he hails Nigerian government for doing so on: June 09, 2021, 07:53:20 AM
Quote
“Congratulations to the country of Nigeria, who just banned Twitter because they banned their President,”

Quote
“More COUNTRIES should ban Twitter and Facebook for not allowing free and open speech — all voices should be heard. In the meantime, competitors will emerge and take hold. Who are they to dictate good and evil if they themselves are evil? Perhaps
I should have done it while I was President.

The twitter ban in Nigeria gets more hit across board, from social groups, lawyers and human rights groups to house of representatives summoning the minister of information "to know the processes to the reason" for twitter ban (though the summon coming late with more 10 days gap for investigation by committee).    You can read here

As to the House of Representatives summon, it is actually laughable that the representative house would still be seeking the reason for the ban or what transpired even when a common man on the street that is in line with internet and social media knows exactly what happened, now the house is still going to allow 10 days window for "what not investigation". This means the 10 days means continued ban, job losses, businesses folding cum furtherance of untold poverty and hardship.

Now Trump has come up with his public stunt of lauding the Nigerian government for such abysmal action of continuing muffling of Nigerian voice, freedom of speech and expression all enshrined in the constitution and several charters including UN.

I believe that Trump's ban by Twitter last year after instigating the violent invasion of the U.S. Capitol may be a contributing reason for such speech.
4486  Economy / Economics / Re: Official says US seized cryptocurrency ransom paid to Colonial Pipeline hackers on: June 08, 2021, 12:12:23 PM
This is great news and will help a lot to legitimate crypto currencies in the future. Usually people say that cryptos are completely anonymous and that criminals tend to use it for their personal gain. If the authorities can now get the money back its a huge step. Criminals will have to think twice in the future if the really want to use cryptos again. And it gives another layer of security for companies who want to use cryptos.

Just wait until the details are known. We still don't know how the FBI managed to retrieve these coins. In case the hackers sent the coins to an exchange wallet and the exchange handed them over to the FBI, then I would say that the hackers have acted in an idiotic manner. On the other hand, if the FBI had tracked down the hackers somehow and forced them to forfeit the stolen coins, then I would appreciate the FBI. In this case, it would act as a serious deterrent to any such criminal activity in the future.

Quote
As alleged in the supporting affidavit, by reviewing the Bitcoin public ledger, law enforcement was able to track multiple transfers of bitcoin and identify that approximately 63.7 bitcoins, representing the proceeds of the victim’s ransom payment, had been transferred to a specific address, for which the FBI has the “private key,” or the rough equivalent of a password needed to access assets accessible from the specific Bitcoin address. This bitcoin represents proceeds traceable to a computer intrusion and property involved in money laundering and may be seized pursuant to criminal and civil forfeiture statutes.

I think this information here said FBI probably has the private key but for me, I can't say how they were able to get hold of the private key.

Quote
“There is no place beyond the reach of the FBI to conceal illicit funds that will prevent us from imposing risk and consequences upon malicious cyber actors,” said FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate. “We will continue to use all of our available resources and leverage our domestic and international partnerships to disrupt ransomware attacks and protect our private sector partners and the American public.”

With the above, the justice department and the FBI seem to have a synergy to go after hackers. We may be having more revelation on this as the day come.

4487  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Elon going to sell his BTCs? on: June 07, 2021, 06:44:19 PM
Elon has been long in business and understands the game quite well than many here. And he is a big mover of the market which means he also know when his tweet can force people to buy or dump so that is the operational factor. IMO then , I won't expect that he has bunk of his bitcoin hodlings with him if he has caused price of bitcoin to drop this far. He may be waiting to refill his bag again and that is actually what a whale investor should do. It is better to sell and buy low instead of hodling all the life eternity.
4488  Economy / Economics / Twitter ban, koo opens up. How will this play in Nigeriann business environment on: June 06, 2021, 09:56:08 PM
On Wednesday 2 of June, the Nigerian President made a tweet which many people consider to be threat to genocide and this led to the deleting of the tweet on Friday by Twitter. To Twitter such post violates its “abusive behavior” policy and that led to deleting the post.

Such post by the president was seen as reminding the southeasterns in Nigeria  the anguish of the civil war between the Nigerian government (which president buhari was a commander) , and Biafra where about 3 million souls of the southeasterns were lost in 1967-70.

This is the content of theTweet

Quote
“Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War,” he wrote in the now-deleted post. Those “who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”

IMO , the tweet isn't really addressing the issue why the group is agitating but it is rather a reminder of the gruesome killings of the souls in the region.

So what do you think about the president tweet and the action of twitter to pull down the tweet which has resulted into consequent banning of twitter in Nigeria.

Although can be accessed through VPN.

Now, a new blog.  Koo has opened in Nigeria to replace tweeter shortly after it was ban. What do you think the financial losses will go ? Though banning of tweeter is a threat to freedom of speech and association and some legal bodies have petitioned the Nigerian government in ECOWAS
4489  Other / Politics & Society / Re: why revolutions and movements fail at their desired outcome on: June 06, 2021, 03:32:56 PM

but if you wanna do more then just disrupt fellow citizens day getting to work. try the route he elitists use (the petition, legal, lobbying systems)

Lol you want to petition to ICC or which international body where a country you are in has her own sovereignty? Nobody is going to listen to such petition but to not interfere in a matter not in there jurisdiction.

Ok.... Maybe you want to petition the government where you are trying to break out from? In Africa, such petition will land you inside the jail for either treason or felony for trying to take over the government. Hahaha... Is about struggling for what you want, because nobody will give it to you freely.
4490  Other / Politics & Society / Re: why revolutions and movements fail at their desired outcome on: June 05, 2021, 02:13:03 PM
Your original post was about getting change locally by paper aggrement but such kind of change isn't given on paper but struggle. All society that have been divided didn't do that solely without struggle. At most the struggle can lead into aggrement but to relax and wait for paper agreement, change won't be achieved.

local placards and peaceful protest are the 'relax and wait for' strategy
because placards and peaceful protests are not actually binding politicians to any agreement.

no signature no pledge no commitments occur due to placards/peaceful protests.

but actually being smarter and more organised(strategic plan) work better then organised(membership of community coffee morning group)

No , hardly will government in third world countries listen to placards or your own perception of change as you observe it in your environment. Depending on the kind of change you talk about but change of a structure where political phychopaths feed from is hardly relinquished by mere paper work.
4491  Economy / Economics / Re: Are you making money online? on: June 05, 2021, 10:40:27 AM
Firstly I glanced at your profile and with your merit, I know you have come a long way on this forum. I also work 8 hours per day but to earn extra income online I joined this form doing some campaigns like signatures and airdrops. If you have the time you can do some social media campaign if you have the required followers and you should know about airdrops this can actually earn you some extra little cash if not scam ones I will suggest Airdropalert.com.

Yeah but airdrops have been associated with scam because it is not regulated and every body can come up with such skimming of giving you part of their coins but end up taking your data when they ask for KYC , and they run away from the promise. Some finally are not listed. Some projects in bounty also end up not paying up at the end of your work done.

I know that trading is difficult but it seem best if someone can learn better of it because you have control of when you want to enter an order and trading with proven platform endures your funds or coins are safe.

I'm believing you are writing on majorly in a sane society. Maybe in a more democratic system and of course not in Africa. A little brief of the African continent would tell you that change doesn't just come by mere contract in a paper. Even in South Africa that seem a more democratic system, change didn't come by mere paper work. Mandela fought for the structural revolution until it came, he stayed in prison for 27 years which was not a little struggle not given in papers.

Quote

thats what media is saying.
but do you know that africa suffers from (if you read a real brief) things involving contracts.
international investors buying up land from government without the local landowners consent.
yep the land owner just finds out one day their land has been purchased and they have to vacate the land
this has caused 2 things. alot of displacement and battles of farmers remaining trying to hold onto land thats no longer legally theirs.

You have written so many things. Such a long writing you do  Grin

Alright, from the quote above on your write up , you can understand you are talking on international relation, cooperation of government with other nations which is largely not in the interest of the masses but a self aggradizing purpose, highly selfish too. The government can secretly take up what belongs to the people and sign them off to their foreign cronies but that kind of interaction was not the change your original post talked about.

Your original post was about getting change locally by paper aggrement but such kind of change isn't given on paper but struggle. More recent struggle for change in some Africa society have led to serious wars and blood spilling as we remember the Arab spring cutting across North Africa (Egypt, Tunisia, Libya etc). Mali have now been suspended from African Union recently because of unrest and military coup going on there in the last 9 months succession.

Nigeria currently facing her peculiar challenges from #endsars to high level of kidnapping, insecurity and attacks of government facilities.

Therefore, some societies won't achieve change by paper agreement and in the bible it was said that even doing the time of John the Baptist, the kingdom of God suffer violence and the children of God takes it force.

African government won't yield to peace talks that may be the big challenge bedevilling third world countries.

4495  Economy / Economics / Re: Does Money Need Competition To Flourish on: June 01, 2021, 02:27:59 PM
I think this is relative but what can make money become competitive can also be tied to inflation. Inflation can either devalue or increase its worth. If you have inflated economy then the money is less competition because it value reduce and hardly valuable both locally and internationally and that gets a responsible government to start setting up competitive mechanism up like introduction of inception and maybe increase investment, partnership with investors and provision of cheap repayable loans to push up production that could drive down cost of goods.
4496  Economy / Services / Re: Can i find a Farm in Nigeria (Western Africa) on: May 30, 2021, 05:10:53 PM
I am new to this forum and Bitcoin mining as well. Currently looking for someone or persons that has a farm(Mining rig) in Nigeria. The person can email or PM me. Thanks.
PS: Not a scammer.

As far as I know, the Nigerian government is anti-crypto and mining is illegal there, it's very unlikely that anyone here will contact you even if they were secretly mining bitcoin, it would be in their best interest not to expose themselves to a random stranger they meet online, at the same time, you should also be careful because you may be contacted by scammers, the mining industry is very risky.

You are quite right but the Nigerian situation is just laughable because of the improper direction, lopsided and "kleptomaniac" attitude and tongue from the people in government, they are not straight forward.

The government is just paying lip service to cryptocurrency. They reject piece of meat, yet they use there teeth to cut same meat  Grin

They said crypto is ban and they allow a national TV (Nigerian Television Authority) to read news on it and make a pundit analysis on it.

It is laughable also that the apex bank (CBN), Central Bank of Nigeria is announcing to develop her own digital currency. Lol Grin. That's the Irony of the Nigerian crypto situation.

Don't be surprise someone in government can get Op what he is looking for. Lol

4497  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: American convenience store chain now accepts btc, etc, litecoin dogecoin payment on: May 30, 2021, 02:32:42 PM

but it depends on how convenient people to use Dogecoin as the payment besides using btc, eth, and litecoin.

It is very convenient to use dogecoin or for transactions. Maybe you never tried transfering dogecoin, at least I have done that. It is very fast and fees are very low when compared to bitcoin. However I have not bought anything with it but I believe that its transaction process is still going to be fast and cheap. When dogecoin enters into the mainstream of payment system, then I will be sure to use it. This is going to be a great time for the meme coin, it price may likely rise anytime soon.
4498  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / American convenience store chain now accepts btc, etc, litecoin dogecoin payment on: May 30, 2021, 10:53:42 AM

Cryptocurrencies that will be accepted by the convenience store chain include Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC) and Dogecoin (DOGE), among others.

America keeps growing in the list of countries that have adopted cryptocurrency. It is more open to freedom to living and every aspect that will guarantee comfort.

My focus however is dogecoin that is also now added in the list of cryptocurrencies. Dogecoin to some looks like a new comer in cryptocurrencies but it has been around and just recently gaining some recognition and importance even when some crypto family have not given the coin chance, it has done great in light of those critism as we know.

So particularly about dogecoin, what do you guys think can happen to dogecoin if it continues getting this kind of listing in crypto payment.

4499  Economy / Economics / Re: The Central Digital currencies will make monetary policy more difficult on: May 27, 2021, 08:55:51 PM
With the new digital central currencies such as yuan, euro, dollar,... anyone could potentially hold an account on a central bank skipping the intermediaries.

not at all. there won't be even a tiny bit of difference between any new digital (crypto) currencies and the existing digital currencies run by the banking system. even the same laws would apply including the KYCs and who can and who can't open an account.

I think one major difference is that it is going to be highly centralised and control by the developing country and you can't compare such coin to bitcoin in no way. Countries that are talking about digital currency are only seeking to regulate the flow of fiat money and cryptocurrency in circulation in the country.

I hate this feeling. Guys no matter what don't be impulsive in trading.

Hoping that you will also take such advise. Trading isn't for everyone, if you try with no success then you know you have to quit and try other thing. I don't trade because of the challenges and emotion involved in it. To me it is a difficult area of life and because of the difficulty to understand, I better stay away from it and watch. But you need to guide your trade very well not to keep making mistakes.
