4501  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [MAR 2020] Fees are low, use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs! on: March 25, 2020, 01:38:44 PM
Funny how transactions are cheap when bitcoin price is rising, but not when it's falling.

Makes a lot of sense to me...

People are happy when they buy and we go up or they're waiting for a new entry....
4502  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum wallet just disappeared after a transaction on: March 25, 2020, 01:06:05 PM
yes, sorry, i forgot to say that, i downloaded it from official page

Definitely? As in you typed electrum.org?
4503  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum wallet just disappeared after a transaction on: March 25, 2020, 01:00:56 PM
Where'd you get your copy of electrum?

It could've just been a fatal unhandled exception at run time and it probanly was if it came from a legitimate source.
4504  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is not as risky as many think. on: March 25, 2020, 12:50:38 PM
Speculative markets are generally more risky. Bitcoins a bit like a new technology startup that breaks even every year.

You're investing in an underlying asset that's only seen as valuable by fellow investors. We had the problem in ~2018 with this though since people kept buying thinking it was going to go up. And much more recently we've seen jolts due to this.
4505  Economy / Economics / Re: US Bail Outs in 2008 Were Loans. Not Grants. People Actually Made Money! on: March 23, 2020, 12:12:51 AM
Banks sold toxic assets to the governments but the governments oversaw the creation of those assets to a degree imo so it was a failing all round.

I *think* my government are giving wages as grants but company funds as loans which is a little rediculous since some people will still make more than doctors and such even though they're doing no work...
4506  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Holy shit Binance leverage trading is COMPLICATED AF!!! on: March 22, 2020, 09:12:58 PM
Yea I don't think I can manage that level of complexity.
Yeah I don't think many people are used to it, I just checked my futures and I have $20 in it, I don't think I'm going to be able to even work out how to withdraw those Grin :-(.

I mean wow Binance is really trying to boggle your mind with this stuff. I think their strategy is if people cannot even understand it,
chances are they will loose their money to Binance.

So i'm done. Back to Bybit. pfft.

Not even sure it goes to them so I don't know why they thought it was a good idea to do it this way, anyway, we'll have to see if it develops into something more usable later on.
The only 3 withdraw windows aren't too bad, at least it's better than bitmex!
For some people Binance isn't the most intuitive platform to use when it comes to withdrawals and deposits, which may not be the best thing. Luckily, though there a tutorials that can help with this, here is a link to an article explaining the two processes: https://smartphones.gadgethacks.com/how-to/binance-101-deposit-withdraw-bitcoins-other-cryptocurrencies-0182003/

and if you're hands on there are also a few video tutorial like this one; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUa-qL4g7SY.

So the point is that if you're committed you can spend some time to learn your way around the platform. I suppose this is something the UI needs some improvement on!

Nah those are simple deposits and withdraws. We're talking about doing that stuff with margin and futures sides of things, they're pretty new so I doubt anyone's covered them yet... I'll have to take a look at some point though.
4507  Economy / Economics / Re: a disease or a virus or is there business in it? on: March 21, 2020, 11:47:52 PM
NO?

An antidote in this context would be a vaccine and the spread w pi uld have to be subdued for the vaccine to be applied to the population.

We may also see some random stocks rise though as less valuable companies come out with tests and cures.

For every private company in the US testing a vaccine, there's probably a socialised medicine programme in the EU doing the same thing, if they find them so fast - it wasn't a race, they know what they were doing...
Vaccines are not some sort of antidotes. In fact antidotes and vaccines are totally different things. You don't have to subdued the spread (not even sure what this means. I am assuming you mean that the spread has to be controlled) for applying the vaccine. People that hasn't been affected by the virus can apply the vaccine (if it ever gets created and approved) to make themselves immune (or at least be able to fight the virus without causing much trouble) to the virus. Those already affected by the virus does not need to apply the vaccine since the anitbodies can already fight against the virus.
You use antidote to reverse the bad affect of drugs or poison. On other hand you apply vaccine in order to make your immune system be able to fight against that particular virus if it ever attacks the body.

To develop an "antidote" you'd need something to reduce the antitoxins in your blood which would have to be done via a device administered via IV which won't be passed by any government thst cares about its citizens.

Or you'd have to develop something that draws out its antigens and breaks up the virus, which is similarly impossible in current medicine/technology without causing many more problems for the patient...

Even bill Gates' idea of refining and injecting blood plasma would require testing and filtration before being attempted and a government again would have to approve something and in doing so, if its simple to do (I. E a known strategy of idea) then the country that created the invention may not be needed. Governments can decide to honour a patent or not especially if its from a country that doesn't respect international copyright law itself.

Are you talking about margin or leverage (futures)? They're quite a bit different on binance, both are still really confusing though...

Both are still confusing, I was testing out margin and they don't liquidate your entire position when you teach it (just a part of it. I'm guessing they're trying to protect themselves by offering a lower bankruptcy price and giving you something back)...
4510  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hello, I'm already member of CryptoTalk.Org on: March 20, 2020, 01:41:33 AM
are you say spam for asking?Huh?? Are asking called spam??? You should don't know me

You just said you came here, wanted to know how to join a sig campaign and know nothing about crypto - from what I can tell from your post anyway?

We're literally called bitcointalk, that in itself is enough of a reason to know you're just here to spam. Newbies probably don't have access to their signatures anymore if you can't find it, you can either earn 1 merit here by doing something productive or you can go back to cryptotalk...

Hello, I need some help here , i think the forum made by old html, i don't know why there is no new styles it's blue - white only, lol. I need to know how can i change my signature because it's not visible in my account settings and how can i setup yobit bitcointalk.org campaign? For my knowledge in crypto! Don't ask me! Very good

I edited OP to better illustrate evidence for claims.

I wonder what sort of equipment you'd use to check there isn't a magnetic field thst wouldn't itself create aagnetic field 😲...

Good question. Maybe one of the reasons the news story hasn't been widely circulated is it will fail to hold up under scrutiny if subject to peer review. That's what I would expect although I can't claim to have the physics background to put everything into perspective the way it should.

I do think the nsa should hurry up on that front, or maybe someone like semantec and cloud flare could bother to make a partnership of a secure signature algorithm...

This is an example of why encryption algorithms developed by intelligence agencies should NEVER be utilized if security is the goal.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/world/national-security/cia-crypto-encryption-machines-espionage/

Yeah no one wants the guys working on an innovative project to succeed if it means they rank faster 🤣.

And I do doubt the quality of a CIA report into itself. Its not like an unbiased secondary agency went in to check the information they managed to take...

I've also been having to read up on pre-80s encryption with LCG used at IBM and it was very easy to crack...
There still has been no progress by the bitcoin devs to even suggest what quantum proof algo they'll likely use...
4512  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: HASHNEST Discussion and Support Thread on: March 19, 2020, 03:24:52 AM

This is a pre-order for S19 pro miner. We will announce the actual price of S19 pro and actual date of crediting hashrates based on Bitmain website of China. Until then, the price and date of crediting hashrates are not  predetermined and is subjected to change.  We will return the overcharge and demand payment of the shortage.

The overcharge will be returned to buyers in USDT. Cryptocurrency will be credited to your account according to real-time exchange rate from CoinDesk BPI.

Those terms seem quite harsh, so you instantaneously turn everything into usdt or usd? What happens if usdt crashes *again*? Also if someone wanted a refund from overcharging is that paid in usdt? So they could lose half thir btc if the current price doubles...?

Also I imagine the s17 market crashed since the app gave a notification of the market closing... It would probably be handy to keep it open, when miners are ready to be redeemed they normally see a boost in price...

4513  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The UK is moving towards forced isolation for people over 70. on: March 18, 2020, 08:11:27 PM
I'm actually paying for a tea, and getting refills with hot water and a slice of lemon where I can. I'm thinking of carrying my own lemon slices as well. It's really just the power that I need until I install some solar. Most of my comments are attempts to get people to be sensible, and to stop destroying themselves with statins and the like.
I've been doing similar but with honey to strengthen immunity, I don't want to catch the virus to allow it to mutate and spread further.
It would be almost impossible for me to die from it, and even people over 70 don't face much of a problem - especially at the age of 70. Most people likely to die are in their late 50s/early 60s or 90s afaik these days. The former caused by complications such as smoking and drinking.

What really concerns me is the way this has been hyped up to enable the collapse of various nations' economies. Nobody uis talking about the 2 Chinese that have contracted the bubonic plague, and that could be far more worrying.

I'm under the impression the bubonic plague and proto-covid-19 (the Wuhan strain) are probably similar in fatality rates (around 3%) the beta-covid-19 strain now is more likely to kill 0.1%-1% of individuals (based on their own immune system and precautions certain areas may take).

I see the students near me have done nothiing to aid in social distancing, all seem to be wandering around the city in packs still...

People repeatedly point out the food practices of other countries that do need solving but most countries are many years behind Europe.
The US are still using caged everything and labelling it free range if it doesn't have a cage but has a similar amount of space...
Bangladesh and thailand look to be trying to reduce caged animal exports to comply with the EU standards better. And meanwhile china haven't learnt that putting different types of animals next to each other (cooked, dead, alive) does nothing to help with hygiene. It's always weird that the "delicacies" of a place are the shit no one else wants to go near (like kaviar/tongue for the western world and snake/bat for china).

I think older people are the victims of the healthcare systems, and not things like this virus. Forced isolation is probably the worth thing you can do to them, and can lead to depression and other problems. They will probably still be exposed to the virus via deliveries, and deliverymen.

Another issue people don't seem to notice is that forced isolation of a population is going to do nothing for the mental health of anyone... Boris had to confirm that exercise comes under essential travel for this reason too (since a lack of open air and unlight leads to deficiency in vitamin D and issues absorbing things like calcium).
4514  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core on a Raspberry PI on: March 18, 2020, 07:55:24 PM
I didn't think it was possible to install bitcoin core from a debian repository?

I found this guide that might be helpful: https://www.howtoforge.com/tutorial/how-to-compile-and-install-bitcoin-core-on-debian-wheezy/#install-some-dependencies

Either that or you can clone github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin and go to the docs folder and look at the installation notes for ubuntu/debian.

Dependency and build instructions for unix are available here: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/blob/master/doc/build-unix.md
(I'd put them below but there are different configurations with or without a gui).
4515  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer.com - Bitcoin mixer / Bitcoin tumbler - mixing reinvented on: March 18, 2020, 07:44:39 PM
Eaxctly as my 2nd thought although I supposed these domains are registered by Chipmixer; many thanks for the confirmations that these are NOT owned by Chipmixer.
It can be a significant scamming merhod too. Gaining trust by redirecting and later presenting the scam one.

I recommend Chipmixer to register the possible (can be) phishing domain as a part of CSR; it will help both its users and Chipmixer reputation I believe.

It would be a hard thing to get all of them, this is a point in trying to geet some but then where would you draw the linke. Registering the unicode characters of everything that looks similar to an i until closer inspection becomes quite a massive task in itself.

Localbitcoins managed to buy all of their phishing sites afaik but that's just one example. Chipmixer doing the same would be difficult and might even be harder to do since they don't want to give up their identity (for obvious reasons).

They also don't include any letters that might face confusion when you type in their domain if you type properly since the only ones people normally miss up on are the ones where you have to move your fingers more (for example the 't','y','b','g','h') on new/foreign (to the user) keyboards. Most keyboards in other countries often seem to keep these in the same place, such as germanic keyboards with the switch of the 't' and 'z'.
4516  Economy / Reputation / Re: [overview] ChipMixer Signature Participants Statistics on: March 18, 2020, 07:19:57 PM
Sending unsolicited PM's is an offence on this forum that comes with a temp bann.
I received a PM from dragonvslinux about this, and although it was technically unsolicited, I'd say the forum rules aren't meant to stop this. There's a difference between: "Hey, here's a bunch of interesting things I'm working on, and I'd like to get your help" and "please sir can I buy 800 Merit or your account". I don't think this forum will become better if you have to ask permission to PM in public before asking someone a question by PM.

Yeah, it's clear why satoshi watned the rules to be unofficial, sometimes you need the extra analysis.

If you deem 1PM to be an annoyance and unsolicited then you probably ought to hit the logout button and not return...

Since you're curious of about ChipMixer participants, maybe you should analyze where usually participants make their posts (most likely it's either Meta or Beginners & Help)
I made a page for that. It doesn't receive automated updates, but I just ran an update. See http://loyce.club/sigcamp/chipmixer/topics7d.html

Is that in progress or did it just kill my browser when I tried to click another link for a different time spot?

Would be interesting if it evolved into where merits were earnt&sent by most of them too...

Itll be interesting if the guy in the office next door accidentally disrupted their experiment by doing something with fields the just happened to oscillate in the same direction... 🤣

I do think the nsa should hurry up on that front, or maybe someone like semantec and cloud flare could bother to make a partnership of a secure signature algorithm...

At the moment, we don't really have an algorithm to become the defacto standard. I've just heard people pick favourites.
4519  Economy / Speculation / Re: S&P took quite a hit today on: March 17, 2020, 04:49:01 PM
I'm wondering whether they'll give any consideration to suspending stock trading. There comes a point where there's so much chaos and uncertainty it becomes impossible to price anything. Then again maybe suspending the media would do the most good.

Someone on YouTube was saying they'd anticipate something to come out potentially at the weekend or when the markets close one day to suspend trading for a fortnight...

Tbh I doubt something like that would be done since Europe are still able to trade a closed American stock so our market cap could crash a lot faster and leave Americans with less money.

I'm getting a bit confused as to why the governments want to keep banks as liquid as possible as it seems counter productive for maintaining the stock market and there is currently no asset that seems to be safe from this volatility.

Update, I ended up buying $100 in shares of a grocery store, I've had a roller coaster today. When I woke up, I was at $50 and now I'm at $96... I don't really know where all this volatility is coming from - at a guess a lot of people are probably pulling out of index funds...
