4501  Other / Meta / Re: How to quote a locked topic and use of edit button on: August 12, 2018, 06:37:14 AM
Looks like a lot of work. I just cut and paste the relevnt text, and add quote tags manually.

Alternatively, you can link to the post with a suitable comment.

Thanks for your reply, and it isn't really off topic, as the essence of this thread is to discuss methods for members to ask questions, and to obtain answers. Your suggestion is a sensible approach, and could be useful for board posting information. The real problem is the location of the thread. If it is made into yet another stickie, then it will end up as another thread for new members toignore.

I've spent some time inside the software behind Ask a Legendary, and it is far more sophisticated than I imagined. It allows authorised members to ask questions, and to suggesdt threads in reply to questions. Therefore if provides the possibiility for cross board replies to topics in the Bitcoin Talk forum. For me, it can provide an index of threds to watch for meitable posts.

I'm going to keep it as a primary site for my own convenience, and I hope it will be useful to other members of Bitcoin Talk, including merit sources. I would welcome any suggestions about the site, and hopefully they will influence me into building an asset that is of benefit to other members and not just for me.

I've closed registrations for the moment. This is just until I can work out how to block the spammers.
I'd also like to knowif the site gets general approval here, or if I am breeching my expected behaviour.
4504  Other / Meta / Re: Ask a legendary on: August 11, 2018, 04:43:49 PM

Whoever, I'm not a legendary Cry

You can be an expert. Smiley

I promoted you, but I'm not sure what advantage that gives you. How did you  manage to earn 100 points?
4505  Other / Meta / Re: Ask a legendary on: August 11, 2018, 04:23:08 PM

Another initiative proves that you care about the forum more than anyone else here (no offence to others). Good work however instead of going there we can simply make this topic an FAQ topic...

That would be best, but are people using that section?

plus, the ask a legendary site allows them to ask questions, and the answers are kept for the next member to ask the same question
4506  Other / Meta / Re: Ask a legendary on: August 11, 2018, 04:20:14 PM
I was looking for something else in the softaculous installer list, and I noticed this. If people think it could be useful, then I'll configureitfor use. At the moment, I've done nothing to it, it's straight out of the box at the moment.
4507  Other / Meta / Ask a legendary on: August 11, 2018, 04:11:42 PM
I've just installed this CMS - is it worth adding some questions and answers?
https://jetcash.com/ask-a-legendary/

I know this can be done on Bitcoin Talk with the search feature, but newbies aren't using that.
Would this take some of the pressure of the boards, or shall I delete it?
4508  Other / Meta / Re: Sorting System on: August 11, 2018, 03:19:59 PM
I think some others have got a better ignore system than mine. I have got an appeal site, but nobody uses it because I haven't published the current list.

I was thinking of creating a pseudo-board with links to good ( in my opinion ) threads, but that is a fair bit of work, and it doesn't help with the basic problem, and that is the decision as to what the future of Bitcoin Talk is to be.

Anybody is welcome to join the firt to talk project, and maybe we should sponsor some BT threads and list those. They would need to be self-moderated by the thread starter, as they would become spam fests if it was noticed that they had become premium threads. I've been deleting some of my Bitcoin Talk projects that didn't garner any interest - the academy for example, so maybe I'll add a premium thread list as a new project.
4509  Other / Meta / Re: Sorting System on: August 11, 2018, 02:12:27 PM
the life blood of the forum ~ a pretty good allusion  Cheesy

The main problem is their (newbies) motivation in here (forum) for what. It will be complicated to repair if the ultimate goal is to get earning even though this forum provides space to earn it.

The forum admins need to decide if that is the ultimate goal, or if it is to return to being an information and training forum for Bitcoin, and major cryptos. In the meantime, it is losing good members, and once the forum has been rejected by peoplr, it is harder to win them back.
4510  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Talking the Market Down on: August 11, 2018, 01:37:57 PM
At the moment there is a massive spike in the number of Bitcoin short positions. This is probably a risky bet at the moment, and it could be an attempt to push the price down so that the long term holders can pick up some more coins. It will probably result in a panic correction as they unwind their positions. In my opinion, Bitcoin purchases are for the long term holders, and not for the speculators, and maybe they are the ones trying to create sales as some holders give up on Bitcoin.
4511  Other / Meta / Re: Sorting System on: August 11, 2018, 01:19:50 PM
The new members are the life blood of the forum ( well the few good ones anywy). If they aren't encouraged and helped, then the forum will sink further into the cesspit, as the established members move on to new pastures. This is why I believe that a clean and well moderated board for new members is so important for the forum.
4512  Other / Meta / Re: Sorting System on: August 11, 2018, 12:13:42 PM
It's probably easier to dump the crap threads, or alternatively, create a board for responsible and reputable new members.
4513  Other / Meta / Re: Hidden boards as a reward for high merited users and reporters on: August 11, 2018, 09:20:30 AM

Nobody makes you read me. On the left there is an ignore button.

Thanks for that info - I used it.
4514  Other / Meta / Re: Is bitcointalk being flooded with bots? on: August 10, 2018, 04:15:57 PM
Why introduce all these complications, when all you need to do is to restrict board access for new members.
4515  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin might have been a FAILED experiment by the NSA - How funny would that be on: August 10, 2018, 03:49:33 PM
Why do you think it is a failed experiment? They've had a load of great programmers experimenting and developing the system, and all this code is open source. They put limits in the system that prevents it from ever growing large enough to achieve world dominance. Now they are moving in with their banking instruments to soak up most of the Bitcoin to take it away from the general public.

What a great system! Now we can wait to see what they develop out of the free code they won.
4516  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How will atomic swops affect exchanges on: August 10, 2018, 03:39:57 PM
I thought atomic swops were peer to peer, so they only take place when there is an agreed exchange between two parties.
4517  Other / Meta / Re: The Serious Discussion Board is not "serious" anymore?? on: August 10, 2018, 01:51:25 PM
I suggested that juniors should not be able to post in serious discussion.

I's not worth reporting any thread on the beginners board. If any mod was working there, then 80% of the index would be deleted.
4518  Other / Meta / Re: Hidden boards as a reward for high merited users and reporters on: August 10, 2018, 11:58:07 AM
We already have merit based boards - they are called ANN boards.
4519  Other / Meta / Re: Hidden boards as a reward for high merited users and reporters on: August 10, 2018, 10:29:38 AM
There is a lot of talk about improving the forum, but withoutr the active participation of senior members nothing will happen. I've started a number of initiatives, and it is really hard work to get any traction or support. The things I have started at my expense of time and money are -

A private chat room for merit sources and DTs
A blog about my activities
A merit history of my posts ( thanks to Loyce for this )
An English tutorial forum
A learning accademy
I'm just setting up a voice chat facility to help members with their posting in real time

There are probably some others as well that I've forgotten. I'm getting close to the end with these ideas, as I feel that I'm just banging my head against a brick wall. Maybe I misunderstand the purpose of the forum, and I should just sell my signature and take the money like so many others.
4520  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestions to lessen spam accounts on: August 10, 2018, 09:59:57 AM
I think you could probably achieve much the same filtering effect if you had a probation board, and new members were restricted to that. They would have to make an introductory post, and 4 others on that board. Once they hit 5 posts, then the rest of the forum could be open to them. That would give mods a chance to filter the new members.

eMail confirmation would be another good thing. You have to confirm your registration by email when joining Fit to Talk, and that seems to be a great help.
