I finally ported my data to my repaired now find 7 and installed bitcoin widget 1.6.2. It includes btc-china and the data includes missing entries. Did you make a newer version for androids above 4.3? Because i cant update it in google playstore.

Its not so important since i now know that btc-china is the reason for the missing data. Wink
4522  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin ticker widget on: November 24, 2014, 11:53:44 PM
Why is the trading data from btc-china so inconsistent? I thought they have times when they dont trade and thats the reason for the missing data but it seems they trade all the time.

So i guess somethings wrong with the data pulled from there.

Did you update the ticker to the latest version ? I've removed BTC China about 6 months ago because of these issues. They seem to block many APIs. I've replaced it with HitBTC.

Oh... didnt notice. Im using my old smartphone at the moment because my newer one was sent in for repairs. Thanks for the headsup. I like your app. Wink

*lol* Im sorry for the german.

dank... i know which people you mean. Unfortunately you wont find someone who really can do this. Even the big guru's that claim they can do it were found cheating. So as of now i dont see a solution.

What i wrote in german is: Living only to die? I guess that even is true for every human. I think its important what you do with the time you get. Its not nice if one has to die young and maybe even didnt had a nice life of course.

I see it philosophical. Practically every lifeform only survives because it devours other life. As long as the cow cant show me, that she can life without devouring the life of grass and plants, i have to see it as a necessary evil of life. Noboday survives without taking other life! It would be nice if it would be different but it isnt.
4526  Other / Politics & Society / Re: This frozen chicken “had a rich, emotional life.” on: November 24, 2014, 12:42:26 PM

4527  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bitcoin techniques useful for real democratic votes? on: November 24, 2014, 12:00:41 PM
Ya, that is key. Getting the address to each person voting. I did think in a government situation you could have them printed out on cards or CDs or whichever and handed out at the polling station. Each station would have the amount for their amount of voters, when someone comes in they can grab from the stack and go vote. Though it also allows for the person to show proof to someone later on which way they voted which could lead to people buying votes.

But like I said, it's not set up for choosing your new master. I will leave others to deal with that. BitPools moves beyond that, allowing you to vote with your bitcoins on things you want funded.

Yeah... its a challenging topic and i really would love if bitcoin and the cryptography around could solve this problem. I mean we really need a change to democracy that really deserves the name. If there could be a system and hacker communities and pirate parties (pirate parties first members come from hacker clubs very often too) then this could be a big advertising for bitcoin too. I mean pirate parties are a worldwide phenomenon, the first party that exists in so many countries, and if they present such a voting system then...

I wonder if i should ask about this topic in bitcoin foundation.
4528  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bitcoin techniques useful for real democratic votes? on: November 23, 2014, 07:09:23 PM
I summarized it briefly here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=869839.0

Each voter is given a bitcoin address. The list of addresses is encrypted and made available. After the vote, the decryption key is released.
Nobody knows who has what address. But they know the amount of people voting and the amount of addresses matches up to that number.
You can verify the bitcoins sent via the blockchain very easily, anyone can count the votes and you can verify your address is counted.

Playing devils advocate... if a government would use this technique then the government would know which person got which address. So they would know afterwards which person voted a certain way. In certain countries you would get in trouble from this point if you voted for opposition.

Next thing would be that nobody knows if every address was really sent to a real person. For example you add a certain amount of addresses for old users and government could raise the amount of votes for ruling parties because they could keep those addresses and vote themself. It would be risky to steal votes because even if government would be sure that a person that got an address sent, is dead, you never know that someone could find out that dead were voting. Or how to ensure that really the real receivers of the address are voting. There were cases were letter voting cards from workers of a local company were used by the company to vote for the local companies boss's daugther so she gets in local parliament. To have power to make decisions for the company again.

So i think the part from votes till checking if votes are correctly counted are fine. Only how to know that the votes are valid are a bit difficult. Ok, nowadays offline votes arent perfect in that matter too. You cant really say that the real voters voted by letter, for example. They lower the risk a bit by counting the votes in small areas first and then send the results to the bigger parts of the votes. So citizens of the small area could see if the votes are strange. More votes than voters or completely different votes than the people would have voted.
The thing most hackers and pirate parties fear the most is the might of the one operating the voting process. Centralized data... and making wrong things with them.
4529  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bitcoin techniques useful for real democratic votes? on: November 23, 2014, 06:30:31 PM
I have solved voting using the Bitcoin blockchain at bitpools.com. Using Bitcoin it becomes the most secure voting mechanism in the world.

I did not, however, set it up so that you are just voting for a new master.

It is set up so that you can vote for how your money is spent, using your money as your vote.

Can you explain how you sat this up? Would your system be able to meet the requirements of Anonymity (because government should not know how you, personally, vote) and Verifiability (because if votes are collected in a database then its possible to change the votes, if you can count the real votes then this isnt possible).

I mean especially if someone has an idea how this can be done in detail.

I doubt anarchism is a way for the future. People are probably thousands of years away of being able to life that way. Even nowadays anarchists use things produced by others though mostly dont produce much of worth from their side. If everyone would life like those anarchists try to life then it would not work definitely.

Quote from: Leo Tolstoy, Tolstoy (1988) by A. N. Wilson, p. 146. link=http://izquotes.com/quote/273222
The truth is that the State is a conspiracy designed not only to exploit, but above all to corrupt its citizens… Henceforth, I shall never serve any government anywhere.

The state is a conspiracy of some kind at the moment. Though its still better than some single mighty person that can rule how he wishes. But its still not nearly perfect because governments, who should be the focus of citizens will, are doing what they want. Too often against the will of the citizens.

At the end the government should be "the citizens", which mean they are the ones that rule and say whats going to happen.
4530  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Which exchange can be seen as the most secure one for funds? on: November 22, 2014, 02:12:30 PM
btc-e sounds definitely insecure then.

I know that every exchange means a risk because they hold the coins at least. Though risks can be lowered when the persons behind are really known, security is tight, support is responsive and so on. I see the risk of exchanges in general though they are needed not seldom. So i would like to see a risk evaluation of the biggest exchanges. I mean if you cant avoid then them its best to use the less risky ones. And to spread the risk use 2 or 3 ones so you cant lose everything if your exchange goes down.

I know... a pretty dark view on the matter though i think its unfortunately a realistic one.

I'm still here, but my stats don't really change, even though I handle more volume now. Some people are just too lazy to post feedback, and sometimes I'm too lazy to remind them. Smiley

The real problem is that Financisto hasn't been online for almost 3 months now. So all the stats are out of date, and new escrows are not included in the list.

Unfortunately i hear from many many people that they turn their back to bitcoin. I can understand it a bit. Practically everyone lost very much coins on scammers, inept businessmans, hacks, lost times for miners, accidents and so on. And a currency that is losing its worth more and more isnt very interesting at that time. Others are bound in their business and dont have time because of this. Maybe Financisto thinks similar.

4533  Other / Politics & Society / Bitcoin techniques useful for real democratic votes? on: November 21, 2014, 10:45:54 PM
I think about the usefulness of the bitcoin techniques for real democratic votes since a long time. Im a fan of democracy, not the pseudo-democracy we see in most countries where people vote one day in 4 years and for the rest of the time they delegate their voting rights to others. Thats not demo-cracy, which means "ruling of the citizens". Its even worse in the US where only the biggest part of the citizens get a representation at the end. Other countries have borders for parties, so if a party dont get enough votes, for example only under 5% of voters, then the whole party gets no place in parliament.

This is only a homeopatic demo-cracy. A democracy diluted so far that its not even there anymore practically. The only solution i see for this is a real democracy where each citizen can vote on practically everything. The only problem is the voting system.

The US and other countries use voting computers. Closed source and insecure. You never know what will happen with your vote and if youre really counted. Thats the reason why even pirate parties all over the world dont see computers as the solution. They say a vote cant be made anonymous and replicable. Either the votes are collected in a database and can be altered because they are anonymous or the vote isnt anonymous.

Today i find this article here: http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/239809 in the android app bitcoin buzz. And i was remembered on this topic. I dont see how the author intends to solve the problems though.

What do you guys think about the bitcoin techniques. Can they be a solution and a way to real democratic votes? If so how? I really would like to see a solution.
4534  Economy / Service Discussion / Which exchange can be seen as the most secure one for funds? on: November 21, 2014, 10:23:56 PM
I wanted to ask what exchanges you think are the most secure ones. If MtGox would still exist i guess most would say its the most secure one though we know it wasnt. So im interested in exchanges that are coded secure most probably, maybe work from the coders are known, exchanges that have a solid ceo, and maybe arent in a country with risks. For example btc-china seems to be the biggest exchange and i guess its best for trading. Unfortunately its in china and personally i see the risk that at one point in time the chinese government takes them down for whatever reason. Next biggest one seems to be bitfinex. They have shorttrading and more. Is it risky for the exchanges funds that this is implemented?

And so on.

What do you think? What exchanges hold possible risks that can be seen?
4535  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Escrow list: Whitelist Ranking & Blacklist - Must view before sending your coins on: November 21, 2014, 09:18:52 PM
I think someone should create a new list with actual escrows. Though i guess only escrows are interested in this and this would mean if an escrow is doing this then it would look a bit strange and would bring up critics.
4536  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] Official Shareholder Discussion Thread [Moderated] on: November 20, 2014, 08:33:56 PM
Um... it really could happen that Ken is the "hero that brought us so far" now?

I dont see him as a scammer too but at least he made a lot bad business decisions. As far as i remember there was a board of advisors once who were big shareholders. They gave up on ken because he made wrong decisions again and again. It sounded like we would have gotten our chip long ago if ken wouldnt have been an adder of perfection who led him try to squeeze a bit more out of it. Leading to ultimate fail because of the time spent on this.

Then not giving out the shareholders shares led to huge losses for those that wanted to sell long ago.

No... i cant ever see him as the hero in this game. Im eager to hear his "truth" of it all. And where he pushed our coins into.

The worst thing on bitcoin businesses that go wrong are the bad communications. Why is it so hard to be honest about whats going on? At the end everyone has to guess whats going on and fear spreads. Unfortunately this fear is mostly correct... right NotLambchop? There still are missing examples where this fear turned out to be baseless or all went good at the end at least.

Dargo? Will this change? Or at least not let it look like one will withdraw a certain amount only to realize later that the fee is taken from it before and the amount withdrawn is lower.
I can explain it better in german:
Wenn man was auszahlen will, wird einem doch bei der Bestätigung (2FA) angezeigt, wieviel man bekommt. Oder ist das nicht der fall wenn 2FA eventuell aus ist? Also solltest du eigentlich vor jeder Auszahlung darauf hingewiesen werden, wieviel ausgezahlt wird. Könnte man natürlich besser lösen, wie z.b bei btc-e, wo direkt unter der Eingabe dann steht, wieviel du erhälst, aber eigentlich ist es gut ersichtlich.

english:
You have to confirm the withdrawal with 2FA before it is sent. And there is written the amount you will receive.

Youre right, the confirmation shows it. Though i didnt see this till now because i checked that it shows the amount i wanted to withdraw and i knew from the page before that it will take a fee. I didnt even get the idea that i wont get what i asked for. I might have to be more careful though i think, when i make the clear request to get a certain amount of money, i dont await that i get less than what i asked for. Its like going to an ATM and needing 100USD to pay a bill... but you only get 99.99USD because... there has to be a fee taken. Its something you dont await. Or onlinebanking... paying a bill though... not paid in full because a fee is taken from the amount you wanted to send. I dont know a bank that awaits that their customers include a fee when they want to move a certain amount of money.

Only saying... thats not user friendly.

Is it standard for exchanges, when witdrawing coins or fiat, that the fee is taken from the actual amount someone wants to withdraw? Yesterday i withdrew a couple of bitcoin payments. Only after i had done everything i realized that kraken didnt sent the amount i wanted kraken to send but it took the fee from that amount. So that i had to make a couple of new withdraws to send the missing funds. Of course with another fee on top again.

Now i wanted to withdraw some fiat. It showed the fee and the amount to be withdrawn. I did so, because everything looked ok, and... of course i wont get the amount of money i asked for because the fee was taken from that amount.

I dont like that. Is it possible to change this? When i ask kraken to have an amount of money then i dont want to have such surprises. Of course i want exactly the amount of money i asked to get. I dont know if other exchanges do it the same way but if i need a certain amount of money then i dont want to calculate or being surprised with a different amount of money than i asked for.
