4521  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What's more important: good marketing or technology? on: November 24, 2021, 10:47:48 PM
As I see it, marketing is way more important to a project rather than its technology. People could care less about the new mumbo jumbo that is with new projects that are appearing in the market. All they will care about is whether the project will net them more money and that's it. No other reason for them to invest in a crypto project except for its heavy marketing and hype generated around the crypto space.

Most people that are investing on the crypto space presently are those who doesn't really believe in the technology that new projects bring.
4522  Economy / Economics / Re: People tend not to move on: November 24, 2021, 08:45:42 PM
What the article stated kinda spoke to me on different levels. I only ever moved once from where I grew, and it's not even a different city at all! Most opportunities that ever existed in front of me just came from neighboring cities that are only 10-30 minutes ride away from my home, hence I never felt the need to relocate somewhere far away from what I used to. Also, my expenses are comparatively small compared to what I earn from the job, and moving from this place to another place with less living expenses but different environment I'm not completely used to isn't something I would do. I wouldn't trade comfort for just a few extra dollars of savings every month.

But from other people's perspective, I understand why the need for jumping from place to place is there. Perhaps they don't settle and 'blend' in with their locality, or that some other place presents an opportunity they could never get from the place they are currently on.
4523  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: luck or hack? on: November 24, 2021, 07:48:19 PM
Those funds are probably lost, and the chances of it being spent in the future is very, very slim. Considering that there were no known backups from that address, and the difficulty of cracking one private key by pure luck or even by brute-forcing, it's wishful thinking to see those 8999 btc move ever again.

This is like asking whether bitcoin is possible to get brute-forced right now, and we all know the answer for that.
4524  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Elon calls out CZ over Binance issue; CZ got piqued, went out of context on: November 24, 2021, 06:25:49 PM
It's a very interesting behavior CZ showed in his response with Elon's inquisitive nature. He could have just ignored the issue and let the Binance twitter handle answer for him, but he really felt the need to bring up a topic that is completely irrelevant to the issue at hand. Binance has become unreliable for the past few months and a lot of issues have occurred in the past wherein similar circumstances were observed (trades frozen during a sharp dump, anyone?)

Whatever the case between these two is, I still don't feel bringing up a topic unrelated to what's being discussed is a no no. I'm not a fan of either of them, but you can see who has temper issues.
4525  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Childrens Wallets on: November 24, 2021, 07:22:08 AM
If you want to setup a savings fund, DEX would obviously not be a part of this, and you should go for a non-custodial wallet and keep the funds on your own safekeeping and just keep multiple backups of the wallet. Or you can buy a hardware wallet and keep it somewhere safe, and give it to your children when the time comes. It's less of a hassle for you since you don't have to continuously think whether the third-party you're entrusting the funds will be gone.
4526  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hillary Clinton: Nation states should pay attention to the rise of crypto on: November 20, 2021, 01:21:00 PM
IMO the comment was made not to threaten nation states but rather acknowledge that bitcoin and other crypto are gaining its fair share of the pie. Pretty sure they already recognize crypto and have already merited some of its features, though they are still clinging on to their fiat tool as it is still functional and its specifications can be altered to their liking whenever they wanted to.

I think they are, in a way, worrying that people are having their asses saved by cryptocurrencies, and that the people are slowly losing interest in fiat and leaving it behind by buying into crypto.
4527  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ronaldinho launches NFT collection with Shirtum. on: November 20, 2021, 11:39:44 AM
I don't understand the hype surrounding NFT collections and celebrities and personalities. Ronaldinho is a phenomenal player, no doubt. But I don't think that is enough token for him to create his own NFT collection. Well he can do anything that he wants, it's just that I don't think there's any value on what these celebrities are selling with their name on it. I'd rather buy real crypto and risk my money in there rather than buy these celebrity NFT tokens but that's just me.
4528  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can people in Afganistan use crypto? on: November 20, 2021, 10:33:52 AM
Afghanistan is pretty much a locked country right now. It'll be hard to find exchanges that cater to the said country, or find some P2P exchanger willing to buy or sell crypto for him. At best, you can do the buying and selling for him and just let him pay you through Paypal or other such payment processors that he has on his end that are still accepting transactions from Afghanistan.

As for phones, any Chinese phone will do. Axie Infinity is not a graphically-demanding, or CPU intensive game. You just need to have a stable internet connection though, to ensure that you'll stay in the game when you need to.
4529  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: First decentralized Gambling Platform? on: November 20, 2021, 05:56:22 AM
I think the idea has been around for quite some time now, although it didn't really caught steam because centralized gambling platforms are still superior in terms of reliability and overall quality of gaming experience on the platform. The key thing that this decentralized gambling platform needs to keep in mind is that people won't be swooned by such buzzwords; they need to introduce new features that will attract the gamblers and retain every good bits from centralized gambling platforms. People won't care about the platform sitting on the blockchain if it isn't even good enough to live up to the current standards of gambling.
4530  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Wallet's and their compliancy with law enforcement on: November 20, 2021, 04:43:50 AM
I think all of them would comply if the law enforcement has the necessary papers to conduct investigation, otherwise they won't budge. Also, you have to have committed a crime involving huge sums of money for the law enforcement to refer to exchanges on your trading history and other such related information.

Personally, I would limit my activities on exchanges and try to seek P2P traders near me whenever I can. Or, if you know that you aren't breaking any laws, why be paranoid anyway? Just go the hardware wallet route and store your own keys.
4531  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Real Properties sold for crypto on: November 20, 2021, 12:32:10 AM

Hindi na bago satin na makakita ng mga properties for sale in exchange of crypto, pero this one takes it up on another level Cheesy
4532  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if governments make Bitcoin centralized? on: November 19, 2021, 11:56:11 PM
Doubt this will ever happen. There's nothing to be had in mining a coin in which its supply is almost exhausted. Plus, suppose they were successful in overpowering the network and taking control of the chain. Its value will plummet almost immediately rendering their efforts useless, or the network will just fork off and the people will recognize which is the chain that is controlled by the government and which one is not.

IMO, the government is better off creating their own coin rather than meddling with bitcoin, or any other established coin for that matter.
4533  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Play-to-Earn games on ETH: What's the catch? on: November 19, 2021, 11:27:30 PM
Most of the P2E games that are out in the market has some form of in-game transactions, just like your normal online game. They get their revenues from these in-game transactions, and that's basically it. Personally, I don't mind P2E games as long as they're enjoyable and not really scummy (like some random ass spyware being installed in your pc or something). I am playing such games myself, and so far I'm enjoying the grind and not really caring about the 'earning' aspect just yet until I hit the rankings.
4534  Economy / Speculation / Re: How far will Bitcoin price correct? on: November 19, 2021, 10:47:06 PM
$57k might be 'it' short-term, although I refuse to believe that that is the case since a lot may still happen (MtGox funds being returned to the victims being one of them). The possibility of the bull run being over isn't being ruled out, but from the looks of things, it appears that the market can still weather out the storm and hold the selling pressure, as the support is still going strong @ $55k.

As of this moment, I wouldn't really call anything with certainty.
4535  Economy / Economics / Re: Are we in a bear trap? on: November 19, 2021, 10:21:45 PM
If the MtGox funds are really bound to be released tomorrow, there is a huge percentage that people who receive the funds will dump hard on the whole market and just be done with everything related to bitcoin. From the looks of it, it seems that the market is legitimately trying to avoid the potential crash that is abound tomorrow. If the rumors are not true, price may climb back up and those who sold would probably kick themselves for believing the rumors.
4536  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 41% of people globally say they trust Bitcoin over local currencies on: November 19, 2021, 08:30:32 PM
It would be nice to know the demographics of the respondents of the survey. Respondents from third-world countries are more likely to answer favoring cryptocurrencies as they see it as a money-making opportunity, and not a currency which they can use securely and freely. Most likely, the respondents came from outside wealthy countries, because most people from such countries still has trust on their local currency, and would likely go out of their own way to use it even if cryptocurrencies are readily available for them to use.
4537  Economy / Economics / Re: Fiat banks and the government. on: November 19, 2021, 07:12:08 PM
Pretty sure they are happy to carry out any directives mandated by the government. The banks and the governments are practically buddies; without the government's protection on some matters, the banks won't make any profit and thus will likely not operate for long. Even if they might hate some orders by the government, chances are they are still profiting a lot because the government protects their interests. It's just a two-way street between these two entities, and on this relationship, the banks are at a disadvantage since the government can practically do everything and can exist even without the banks while this cannot be said on the banks.
4538  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are NFTs overhyped? on: November 19, 2021, 06:36:20 PM
Most probably they are. NFTs are being used so much even on normal tokens/coins that don't really apply the essence of the term. There are also games that are just normal games in general, but because it 'exists in the blockchain, it automatically falls under NFT.

There are some Flash-like games on the NFT space that IMO will eventually lead to a rugpull. They are so overhyped and the token's price is insanely unreasonable for a game that is just like dice since you are just banking on the odds that are given to you by the game, and that it's just a coin toss in essence.
4539  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Slot forecast on: November 19, 2021, 01:24:46 PM
This is why slots and dice are games of chance. You literally cannot predict the outcome of any bet that you did, hence why you really need to cling on your lucky stars in order to win. Most of these slots and dice games are provably fair, and it's a good thing that casino platforms give you the freedom to check it for yourself. There are also a lot of ways to do it, and oftentimes platforms even tell you to do it before every bet that you make.

One thing's for sure though, there isn't any strategy that can win over dice and slots in a real-world scenario. You cannot beat the house long-term on these games.
4540  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [CHESS] World Championship 2021: Carlsen Vs. Nepomniachtchi on: November 18, 2021, 09:44:37 PM
Carlsen is a god in chess, no doubt. But Nepo sometimes outplays the god during unofficial chess matches on stream, and kid you not the guy can play superior chess over Carlsen on a good day. Though on this World Championship, there is no doubt Magnus Carlsen is in top form, and would likely to defend his title against the challenger Nepomniachtchi.

It's a breath of fresh air to see chess being discussed on this forum section.
